Despite being a loyal Apple user, I got the Pixel 4a (5g) a while back and used it for about half a year, and ai have to say, the camera even of that one was absolutely divine and can keep up with the iPhone 14, so people using a Pixel 8 will be in for a treat no doubt
ive had my 4a 5G for over 3 years and i'm only now considering upgrading. gone are the days of newer models being must-haves for me. that has been replaced with the slight fear of buying/setting up/learning a new phone lmao
Also on my 4a5g. It's been a little tank. It survived a fall from the top of metal basement stairs bouncing twice and landing screen down on a rubber mat. It finally cracked dropping two feet onto a ceramic tile floor. Needless to say, I do not want a phone with a glass back.

I picked up an 8a to try out back to back with my pixel 6. Testing the camera I found the 8a to have more realistic colors vs my 6 which looked like it added contrast/saturation. I could not see any major difference in low light. The 6 had more greenish/blue to the sky and trees which the same pic on the 8a was perfect. Shooting video at 4k60 with stabilization the 6 had micro studders when panning where the 8a was very smooth and close to what I expect from my gopro 10/12. The 8a was sharper in the video as well and you could tell a big difference just looking at vegitation on the ground. Connection speeds and reception seem equal. I prefer the smaller size of the 8a. So far my only negative is the charge time. I didn't think it would be a significant factor as I am not a gamer or on my phone all day but I usually reserve charging to my daily drive and typically by the time I get somewhere my 6 was close to topped off but the 8a is way behind. It won't affect my usage but I can see how it would affect others. Hope that info helps anyone looking to upgrade. The lower price plus the $100 google store credit made the 8a a great value for me.
"The Pixel 8a isn't particularly cheap..." Aaah, I knew there was a reason I liked this channel! It's nice to have reviews from someone who isn't completely detached from reality when it comes to pricing, I'm sick of these sort of phones being billed as "budget" :-)
Hello Uncle Chris, Thank you for this look at all three of the Pixels. I have had since it's release the Google Pixel 8 Pro. The only thing I don't like about the 8 Pro is the size, it's too big, that's what she said. So if I had to choose I probably gone for the Pixel 8, However the Pro came in this beautiful bay blue colour which I am still in love with. Also thank you for featuring the audio from the speakers of the phones. Nobody else who reviews phones seem to do this and I have no idea why, it's very important.
I'm getting the 8A to upgrade from 4A. 4A is fine, but the battery is due for a replacement soon ($100). So, I thought about trading it in for ($140), Google store credit ($100, expires after a year) and ($50) statement credit if I pay with my Google credit card. Now the cons: I'm disappointed that it still has Gorilla Glass 3, thick bezels, much more expensive than previous models, and Google support is horrible. I had a horrible experience with the 6A ( constantly overheating and dropped calls ), I gave up on the phone after 6 months of trying everything. The pictures on the 6A were amazing... In general, I'm more tempted to get the OnePlus 12 or 12R over the 8A for a similar price. Even though it won't get 7 years of OS updates with the OnePlus, I think I would still get a more reliable phone and have a better customer service.

I had upgraded to the 5a a few years ago but it's motherboard fried after an update so I had to go back to my old 3a (that I'm using now), to avoid buying a new phone at the time. My question is that since the 8a is currently on a pretty good sale on the Google store ($199), is that a decent budget option and upgrade from my 3a? Or am I better off going with a diff phone (assuming I don't want to spend the money for the pro)
Just bought the Redmi Note 13 Pro on sale off the Xiaomi website for £244 but with the carrier deals of £124 up front and £15 a month contract I'm tempted to sell the Redmi and grab the Pixel 8a.

First of all - Finding you here on UA-cam has been an absolute treat! Then... And it's a $200 difference between the 8 and 8a, here in the States, so I have ordered the a this morning. Thanks for your great help and here comes my subscribe click : -)
In Australia, the 8a is RRP $849, whereas the 8 is RRP $1199. So, the 8a is a better value. Also, there are current promo discounts on the 8a until 11 May worth at least $200.
No, that is no longer the case. Among other things, the devices temporarily reduce the charging power in order to keep the temperature low. All of these precautions ensure that smartphones with particularly high charging power have, on average, even longer-lasting batteries than their slower competitors. For its iPhones, Apple says that the device should still offer around 80 percent battery capacity after 500 charging cycles. For the GT 3 with its 240 watts, however, manufacturer Realme even speaks of 1,600 cycles.
@@michaelhammond5412 Normally, this cannot be achieved within a year. Apple specifies such values because they affect battery replacements that are subject to warranty.

My 15W A32 still rocking full day after 3 years. I think slow charging is better for longevity. While my Wife's 20W SE 3rd gen lost 11% in 1.5 years
@@crpro5420 if I had the choice between waiting for 1-2 hours for full charge daily and full charge in 20 mins but 1 year less battery life then I would choose the latter.... I Can't wait for 1-2 hours daily.... Imagine how many hours we are wasting daily in charging time
@@crpro5420 idk why fast charging ever became the norm. I’ve never had a problem just leaving it on the charger every night. I have a 14 pro, fast charging is a gimmick that destroys the overall battery health. I lost 10% battery health within 6 months of use.. my previous “non fast charging” iphones miraculously never had that issue.
I charger battery at night and then all day used my 4a 5g
Thank you!!
I know im an old git but where the hell do they come up with these prices? Is it the canera tech? Gameplay ability? Both purchased individually would be cheaper. Might just be me but a phone is a bloody phone. Great vid, though as always mate.
mini computer in your pocket, pixels have 7 years of guaranteed support. If you don't mind always carrying around three separate devices--camera, gaming device and phone--then go for it, but I don't think it would be much cheaper than having that all in one small device.
I will LOVE the pixel 8. Great work here...
I got the 8 256gb , obsidian. Bought October last year good phone just does the job. Good prices to be had if you look around. 📱🤓👍 waiting for the 9 pro 6.2"
Hey. How's the battery performance on the 8?
@@blackrebel9948average
Currently using a pixel 3a with a burned out selfie cam.
"Cack" is a word not used often enough. 👏🏽
Could you do a outdoor test in the sun to se what phone has the best brightness for longest?
Thanks for rewiev
Just bought the Redmi Note 13 Pro on sale off the Xiaomi website for £244 but with the carrier deals of £124 up front and £15 a month contract I'm tempted to sell the Redmi and grab the Pixel 8a.
Pixel8 all the way - especially at the current pricepoint. That camera is ace!
There seems to be TWO models of PIXEL 8A and are different sizes? The one from Google is AU$499 and is 6 inches long while the other is slightly longer and uses 5G for a lowest price of AU$620-but how do you tell them apart? Especially if you want a correct size CASE?

Hi Uncle Spurt! I have a Pixel 7 at the moment. Is it worth upgrading to the Pixel 8?
Nope
Thx for the super review....thé pixel 8 pro is thé only phone I still have after six months....but here in Belgium it's also three months on sale but nobody is interested unless you give it away.....but I'm still very happy with it only thé charging speed sucks also in cars....the pixel 8a comes to late (my opinion)
The standard Pixel 8 is the comfirst to hold. Just feels right.
I found both the pixel 8a and the redmi note 13 pro 5g for 250€ and since a game as much as I film/take I would like to know which is a better buy, is the 600mAh less a deal breaker?
Can’t wait for the review of the Vivo X100 Ultra
my favorite tech youtuber 🍻😁
I'm gonna upgrade from 6A to 8A, getting great exchange offers. I would have loved to upgrade to the normal 8 but it's horribly overpriced in India.
But i got pixel 8 at ₹42k after card and exchange offer during the last flipkart sale.i don't think at that price it is overpriced.
After watching your video I purchased Google Pixel 8 pro. I am having a problem with the battery life it lasts 4-5 hours. I have turned off the "Allow background usage" on all my apps. I do use the hotspot as my modem, which I did with my previous phone - Apple 11 Max, it would last at least a day. Can you suggest how I can remedy this situation.
Loved that three way!
Can you do a Pixel 3 vs 8a comparison? I was looking at the specs on GSM and the 3 is better on some things, equally good on others, which I’m surprised for a 6 years old phone
Asking question here,
On Pixel 8a we have a 64mp camera sensor, right? So why do we only capable of taking 12mp image compared to Pixel 8 Pro, which have the capability to shoot with 50mp?
Thnks
Watching from my Google pixel 8Pro the beast ❤️🔥
Hi, late to the party here. I just purchased pixel 8 256 gigs. I had a pixel 6 and sent it back toot sweet because of horrible battery life. Your thought on pixel 8 battery? Would be greatly appreciated. 🎉
What is the point of getting a special color phone if you're going to put a non-clear case over it?
7:33 120hz for $499 is a steal
Apple with the iPhone 16 and 16 plus for $799-$899 with only 60hz
I had to upgrade or i'd lose my phone and the stores only had the 8a in stock. I was a little bummed but after your review I realized I don't need the pro8 features. Thank you
Pixel 8a And Pixel 8 pro were excellent excellent phone ever 😭😭😭👏👏👏👏
Hey man what about the haptics!?
If it wasn't for the totally crappy tensor chip, these would be good phones.
Seems like there is always a compromise
fabricated by samsung
Tensor G3 really isn't that bad, then again I own a high end gaming pc so playing games on my phone is a feature that I find a gimmic since I play all my games on my pc
@@AssassinIsAfki agree with your point, but charging speed is the most important thing for me atleast as i always forget to charged overnight as i dozed off after long shift and fast charging is very hamdy as i would plug it in the morning finish brushing, breakfast etc and boom u can last all day
@@zeferrew5024 I mean i just charge my phone at night with adaptive battery it basically stops at a certain point and then charges up to 100% before your alarm goes off. I mean yeah the 8a is pretty bad with 18w charging then again same argument for the iPhones since they have 20w, the 8 pro has 30w which is fine at least for my use case and the differences between my 8 pro and s22+ are about 10-20 mins shaved off with a 45w charger so it's not the biggest deal in the world. Sure they could of gone for 60w but that's overkill imo.
@@AssassinIsAfkyeah but the iPhones can last all day and then some hence why they can afford to have slower charging speeds, the Pixels don’t have very good battery efficiency.
Why you didn't show the transition between cameras during the video like from ultra wide to main camera and so on...
Your review is the only one, I have seen, that tells that the 8a has no macro mode
where do you get all of your wallpapers
How's about the network reception on pixel 8/8 pro?
Someone help meee, should I get 8a or 8. Currently 140euro difference in price.
I like the camera bar on the 8A, it feels so much better than that slab of sharp steel on my 8pro
Weren't there news stories recently saying that Google is killing the VPN feature?
Confused why I keep hearing screen on time of 6-8 hours when I’ve also seen someone say they tested it with UA-cam videos constantly and it played 12+ hours
First of all - Finding you here on UA-cam has been an absolute treat! Then... Maybe I'm just too picky, but the 8a porcelain is the only color (colour?) of the 8 or 8a that leaves the camera bump as natural brushed aluminum a not matching anodized one. I like the contrast. And it's a $200 difference between the 8 and 8a, here in the States, so I have ordered the a this morning. Thanks for your great help and here comes my subscribe click : -)
I would agree, the 8 is a sweet spot, not extortionate pricing and with reasonable features
Why can't there be a phone with top specifications, but less that 6.5" screen size???
If theres one out there, please let me know 👍🏼
Rumour has it the Pixel 9 Pro will have that option.
Pixel 9 being announced today 👍🏻
He's from the future because he's reviewing a Pixel 80
In Australia, the 8a is RRP $849, whereas the 8 is RRP $1199. So, the 8a is a better value. Also, there are current promo discounts on the 8a until 11 May worth at least $200.
Is it correct that slower charging generates less heat snd so better for battery longevity?
No, that is no longer the case. Among other things, the devices temporarily reduce the charging power in order to keep the temperature low. All of these precautions ensure that smartphones with particularly high charging power have, on average, even longer-lasting batteries than their slower competitors. For its iPhones, Apple says that the device should still offer around 80 percent battery capacity after 500 charging cycles. For the GT 3 with its 240 watts, however, manufacturer Realme even speaks of 1,600 cycles.
@@pascal9728T.b.f. 80% after 500 charges ( so approximately 1+ year ) is totally pathetic.
@@michaelhammond5412 Normally, this cannot be achieved within a year. Apple specifies such values because they affect battery replacements that are subject to warranty.

Google is definitely getting better at making their phones.
Did you try just using a photo of yourself to unlock the phone?
Watching this on my 8 ❤
in my country the price differences t first was slightly between these two but now as Pixel 9 has launched market literally dropped the price of 8a and now the gap is 50 $. Now I'm a bit confused which one to grab .
I went for the Pixel 8. Came from the 7 Pro. I need a bit more than the 128GB of storage and wanted a smaller screen but get in touch withe the upgraded camera on the 8. The 8 Pro was not to debate. The 8a is too much compromized to the 8 for a similar price tag. Got my as sealed brand new via ebay with 256GB for the same as the 8a with 128GB.
Glass backed phones are stupid
For $169 net thru the Google store with my 6A Trade-In, the 8A is a no brainer.
Got a pixel 8 this week after owning only gaming phones for the last 6 years (and after my other phone was stolen)
Couldn't be happier, its nice ,compact and it's powerful (enough) for anything i throw at it
Pixel its no good for a playing...
@@krzychom1161 I don't play much on my phone these days so I couldn't care less. the performance is good enough for everything else :D
