" When the lonely feels just like the problem and the cure . " This is so passionate.
"But most days, the drowning feels too much like a cool drink of water." This just hits me.
This poem draws tears from my eyes.
"And there are days when my heart feels like it's swallowing itself, when the lonely feels like both the problem and the cure. No one has extra concern for the boy who seems like he has it all, so I smile big because I know how easy it distracts from the dark. And I just want someone to love me hardest when I least deserve it because those, those are usually the moments I need it most."
Each part of my body feels like it's melting from listening to this poem because of how accurately you've nailed it. Thank you Javon Johnson.
I fucking cant "i would of left when I first saw the smoke" can you see his tears building up
"Stood outside for hours, watched the sun go dim, I'm still not sure if I'm talking about the star in the sky or myself" this needs to be appreciated more (sun or son?)

I guess that's the pun. Sun/Son.
I lost it at "Do you have any idea what it's like to be absolutely in love with someone you think will leave you. To wake up everyday thinking this is the day she will realize she's too good for me, so I pushed her out too, she finally left and I don't blame her".
I am going through this situation right now. He is brilliant.

Man, I started crying because I explained to my husband about this exact feelings on days when my depression is too much.
"I move around like people are only trying to get close enough to exploit my flaws."

Real shit hit hard
When he went into him being diagnosed with depression that's when this became something special, something that cant be described with words, something that is true and pure art.

When his voice breaks at the line "recently I was diagnosed with depression" I cry every single time.
same here. I can relate to this on soo many levels.
His voice holds so much passion. His words holds so much weight.

I started tearing up when he said he had close friends who haven't seen the inside of his apartment bc that's when it hit home for me. I love when I can relate, but at the same time have no idea what he's feeling. I realized I was holding my breath it was so powerful.
Why is this so true , because that's exactly what my depression feels like .. And some days I'm ever amazed I still go on

This hits so close to home... I started tearing up when he did. This poem feels like heavy words filling my guts, only, he knows how to give them life. These words, he has the talent to put them together as flesh and bones and create something so alive, so meaningful. Not just to him, but to so many.. Javon Johnson, I love you for this.
Holy hell this one knocked me right over, particularly when he got to the bit about depression, which he nailed.
There is so much I want to say about this poem. How much I relate but at the same time how I don't. This is beautiful.
My favorite poems are always the poems written as a creative outlet for venting one's inner turmoil. (+)

He just explained it for me. My depression drove my last relationship away and I just can't let him go.
All this was relatable. As a kid waiting for my dad to pick me up and waiting for hours until the sun went down. The trust issues, the apartment part, the depression, the waking up thinking today’s the day she’ll realize I’m nothing special. I can relate to it all. This was beautiful
How it is possible for this to simultaneously break my heart and give me life I do not know. What I do know is his words feel a lot like my own, the one's I never speak for fear they'd turn to ash in my mouth, burn through my veins, and leave me engulfed in smoke. I simply cannot.........

What I love about Javon's work is how he gradually reveals the subject through his eloquent, finely tuned composition and perfected pacing. It makes these poems hit hard on your heart, and it makes the final line reverberate in a way that leaves you stunned when it's over. Bravo, I always look forward to more.
I turned 16 years old today, and it's so sad to find that this is so easily relatable. I push the love of my life away (yes I have ready found him) farther and farther and I only wait until the day he realizes I'm not worth the fight. Faking smiles... boy are they the best disguise you could ever wear.

I've see many Javon Johnson poems, this one has to be my favorite because it's so powerful, it describes the feelings so exactly, and i can relate overwhelmingly. This is the first poem I have listened to this year and I am so glad that is the first of many more beautiful poems to come. I wish him the best of luck in life. I have so much more to say, but all I can think is that this is powerful and it's the kind of powerful that reminds me to hold on to those I love even when they are suffering.

Listened to this a thousand times years ago. Just found out I still know these lines by heart. His intonation already is like a poem, so its like a song, or 2 poems - one is the intonation, one is the lyrics. And I still know so god damn what he is talking about...
I saved this link in my playlist called 'hope'. Even if the content is sad, it consolidates me to know that I am not the only one feeling that way, suffering this thing called depression, fighting with difficult family relationships etc

This explains my life, as a child my father promises were constantly broken and then he disappeared. I was diagnosed with depression around my birthday this year. Currently, I am wondering when I will get over everything but as time goes on I realize I wont get over it. I will have to adapt and hopefully prosper.
My ex recommended this to me, It hits home now that we are not what we used to be. I will always love you Mars. 12/20/17 till forever!

Sigh...this was ALL me last year. The passing of both my grandmothers within a month and lupus diagnosis took over me. There were days when my heart felt like it was swallowing itself and I couldn't breathe. Javon, thank you for speaking to my soul.

That was achingly heartbreaking. I don't really know what to say except that whatever he may think, he is loved. The capacity that we humans are able to love is tremendous. Your flaws make you real, make you human. It does not make you unworthy. Get treatment, take care of yourself, and surround yourself with supportive people. You're not alone in this, my man
