"Some days, I feel like a wolf in sheep clothing,
or better,
I feel like a Sheppard leading his flock to slaughter,
I teach classes on structural racism,
and gender equality
in a system that is more willing to punish its students for Plagiarism,
than it is for sexual assault!" -Javon Johnson
POWERFUL POEM!
"When tuition is steadily rising and starting salaries are dropping, degrees become no different than a designer bag: a cheap fashion statement not even worth a trip to the mall. No one ever tells you that you have to drown in debt in hopes of making it to the shore. That the loan system is a lot like Alcatraz, like Rikers Island. We're getting screwed! While the guards don't even have the decency to pretend to look the other way. The only difference between student debtors and prisoners is that students are taught to think that they're on the outside of the bars. What world do we live in?"
P R E A C H!
"brown as the border that crossed her"
this line is so powerful I can't even try to describe it properly. It just hit me right in the heart
Could you please explain it?
@@soumiabenrekia5796 it's hard to, but basically "the border that crossed her" part is very meaningful because all of our borders are really very self-imposed. Back when North America was newly settled and the U.S.A. was the "Land of Opportunity", people would just... Show up. Nowadays there are convoluted systems for asylum and immigration and its really so petty and self-imposed. In the past, people would stow away on ships and be allowed to enter the U.S.A. and become a citizen, but now that makes you an "illegal alien" and its just... Ugh.
So the idea of the border crossing her, as opposed to her crossing a border, is just one little line that for me invokes many feelings as well as possibly hours of thoughts about this unjust system. One simple line made me think of the ideals of America itself. One simple line made me think about generations and generations of history. Just so, so powerful.
Btw, I am an immigrant myself technically, born in Germany, but am not discriminated against the same way a black or brown person is... So the "BROWN as the border that crossed her" part also makes me think about privilege and how the U.S.A. doesn't hate immigrants, just the brown ones. So yeah. One simple line evokes thoughts and emotions that could have entire symposiums held about it.
"A society that punishes it's students more for plagarism than it does sexual assault" 👏👏👏👏 you are right, and it is not okay
MY MANS JAVON CAME THROUGH AGAIN
SAME!
If Johnny left Kansas going 90 miles an hour with 170,000 dollars in debt, how much longer will it take for us to realize that if he actually burned basketballs on a roof, it would still make so much more sense than all of this.
He always brings it!
"...Us being here is a revolutionary act."

AMAZING!!! GOD BLESS THIS WRITER/POET BECAUSE HE IS MY INSPIRATION
Damn.
Damn, I didn't want it to end!
I really love these poems, but I'm hard of hearing and I wish you guys would have closed captions, because that would help me appreciate the poetry better.
I am too. I've had to miss out on pieces due to the lack of captioning.
One of the main goals of our Patreon is to put accurate captions on all poems. If you're able, please help support! bit.ly/buttonpatreon
I also would appreciate this. I use the automatic captioning but there are times the automatic captioning cannot understand what is being said. That makes it literally impossible to comprehend some of the poems
Such powerful words. I'm in tears. Thank you for your presence and inspiration.

Dang that truth tho
the final killed me
this was one of the best thing of my fucking day and it is everything because I can't explain to my daughter how important a college education and her questions come at me like bullets because she asked me about everything he just spoke of
It isn’t like student loan debt is a surprise, though. Not only is everyone talking about it, you literally have to sign for the loans so you know exactly how much you have to pay back.
Lil Debbie 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤘🏾
And there you have it... #facts

HOOOOLY SHIT
Man I went to a 2 year tech school and with 8 Thomas Sowell books under my belt I am fairly confidant I could best a critical race theory professor in an honest debate.
The problem would be finding citations outside of those books lol.... Sowell had Harvard researchers, I have google.
It also helps that I have read X Kennedy and checked out some Carmichael, so I know a little about the counter argument.
hell mf yeah
BOI!
powerful as fuck
I wish he was my teacher
i fucking freeeking loved id
In a system that is more willing to punish it's students for plagiarism than for sexual assalt💥
Anyone know where I can get a written version of this? I want to use it for an assignment but I need a printable version to analyze/handout
LAY’N DOWN THE LAW
As a college student...I rather sit on top a rooftop watching basketballs burn than watching my hard earn money to burn in vain too.
@beauty gama
Honestly it depends on the degree. We are taught as a society to avoid hard working jobs like constructions, contracting, etc... but those jobs pay the most and always need people. But everyone’s going to school for literature, teaching, etc... I kindly disagree with you.
