I bought a 2014 Ford Cmax Energi two years ago. After almost 30k miles drive. This car is a total bargain. I have averaged 75 mpg. Superior reliability and comfortable. I can drive 15 miles to work on electric only then charge before going home. A lot of weekends we drive two hours to the beach and the car is good for that too. You pay a premium for a Pruis. Cmax is underrated.
The C-Max cargo capacity more closely approximates the regular Prius than it does the Prius V and that's what it should more honestly be compared against.
When you get the range anxiety you can consider the plug in hybrids and we choose the Cmax energy hybrid from Ford 2015 and it has been a blessing. No significant problems so far. Battery charging has been simple. Did have an unfortunate isolated tire blowout on the highway no apparent road hazards found . We are still satisfied. Thanks.
Toyota always manages to be the most uncomfortable car for taller individuals. Awkward positioned steering wheel, and despite telescopic steering wheel; it is still too far from me.
I enjoyed your review. It was comprehensive and informative. If you do an update, include that the C-Max has awful resale value and can be had for a steal with under 10,000 miles on it.
See, the C-Max is rated at 47 combined, but only achieved 44, whereas the Prius V is rated at 42 combined but achieved 46. Ford somehow inflated the EPA ratings.
Not necessarily its also dependent on driving habits. If I speed on my 2018 accord hybrid I get well below the EPA estimates but if I do minimal speeding I can beat it by a couple mpg.
I don't really understand this comparison. Two guys spend most of the video pointing out the shortcomings of each car and then give a non-committal answer. Why would I consider either of them when you haven't given me any pros on them? It's a lot like interviewing a group of applicants for a video presenter and then hiring the guy with a lisp...
I get what you are saying but I am in the market and looking at these two cars to use for Uber and Lyft. The points they bring up actually help me personally. Passenger comfort and storage was a question I had and they answered it.
Indeed. The comparison should have been between the C-Max and the regular Prius. The Prius v is larger and heavier. The Ford C-Max was released to compete with the regular Prius, not the Prius v nor the Prius c. This is not a "fair" comparison.
I bought a used 2013 CMax Hybrid SEL (No plug-In) in 2021. So far it is only getting 29 to 33 MPG overall. New plugs, New oil, New air filter, Good tires, Average miles. The gas engine kicks in a lot more than I thought it would below 40 MPH and I don't push it hard to go or stop. Last owner bought it new and was a little old lady. It seems to be in great condition and I like the car and how it drives except for the way it brakes it takes getting used to and the MS Sync / radio system had to be rebooted by pulling a fuse as it had stopped working. She even wrote a note about this problem in the owners manual. Any suggestions as to how I can get my MPG up ? I tried premium gas and fuel injector cleaner all ready with minimal results. All in all I am content with MPG as my 2012 4x4 Jeep only averages around 12 to 14 MPG.
If you're basing those numbers off of the overall average and idle a lot, that might be the issue. Calculate your MPG manually, if it's still extremely low your HV battery may be weak. It's awfully young for battery issues though.
toyota has better reliability, gives you better real world mileage than the over estimated mileage of the ford, better sales value, and list goes on and on. I don't understand why ford or journalists compare these two. The Prius V is much larger than the C-Max.
While I agree, the C-Max would be a closer comparison to the regular Prius, you're wrong about Ford's Hybrids reliability. They're equally reliable as Toyota Hybrids and have proven that time after time.
In my opinion, a Skyactiv Mazda makes much more sense than either of these two cars. You can pick up a pretty well optioned Skyactiv Mazda 3 for less than $20k or, if you need some more space a CX-5 for about $23k-$25k. While you do lose a bit of fuel economy, the cost of the cars themselves are much less than the either of these two and you do not have the added complexity of a hybrid system.
Ford took advantage of an EPA 'loophole', which made it seem that the C-MAX has more MPG than it should have. Read this: consumerreports . org/cro/news/2013/08/ford-c-max-drive-through-epa-fuel-economy-loophole/index.htm
You will always pay a premium for Hybrid vehicles and this premium will eat into your fuel savings, helping to erode the cost benefits of driving a hybrid vehicle.
Prius is a tinny, noisy, gutless, around town type of car. It will get better mpg. Ford is quiet, awesome handling, roomy, comfortable, way nicer inside and out, excellent visibility, and goes like stink when you need to. They're both reliable.
As a Prius owner, please take it from me. Stay away from Prius. It is the most hateful, boring car I ever had in my almost 50 years driving cars. It is cheap, cheesy and an offense to drivers everywhere. Sure you will save at the pump, but those five mins. at the gas station will be your ONLY joy.
Ford Interior is way more attractive....do you really care at the end of the day..Your ford isn't going to last over 150k ...but you can always look at your sexy attrative interior...LOL Toyota all day..these are Hybrids..they are not Sport's cars..and are meant to get great MPG...not get a boner when you sit in it... Get your Ford..enjoy the mechanic...

You drive 10mph?
@@gennaro4941 I drove normal but my drive was a 45 mph road with lots of traffic lights. I sold my Cmax and bought a Prius.

We do actually list our "as tested" MPG numbers in the video. The Prius V averaged 46 MPG during our time with it while the C-MAX hit 44 MPG.
Is that in imperial (British) gallons or U.S. gallons?
You must be kidding comparing a Toyota with a Ford. Ford lasts 5 years, Toyota lasts 50 year and you can still sell it
right now the c-max has a higher resale value
WRONG
Toyota always manages to be the most uncomfortable car for taller individuals. Awkward positioned steering wheel, and despite telescopic steering wheel; it is still too far from me.
I just bought a 2013 C-Max for under 10k with less than 40k miles. Thats less than 10k a year and 3to4k under market value.
where you bought it?I want to buy a c max, it is over 10K with less than 60k mile.
I got the C Max and love it. I can’t believe I’m really into the car
I enjoyed your review. It was comprehensive and informative. If you do an update, include that the C-Max has awful resale value and can be had for a steal with under 10,000 miles on it.
It's Team Prius for me. I'm sorry, but I just don't trust Ford's reliability.

The back of the prius is an eye soar, who decided that having those rear tail lights was nice

We can assure you it's not. We did just post a Prius vs Jetta Hybrid comparo. Perhaps you're thinking of that.
Haha German is known for the pop out swing arm cup holders now lol.
I guess it comes down to which one has been proven to go over 300000 miles
Why is toyota such a terrible company? Their cars are bulletproof. If you want a reliable vehicle pick toyota over ford
toyota has better reliability, gives you better real world mileage than the over estimated mileage of the ford, better sales value, and list goes on and on. I don't understand why ford or journalists compare these two. The Prius V is much larger than the C-Max.
Precisely. I don't understand the comparison, either.

I think we can all say that we paid more attention to the lisp than the review itself.

There is a cupholder at the bottom of the center console in a bin.
Can't beat a prius
BS this is a repost. Looks like this is an existing video added onto.

Stop hating on the guy
id vote cmaxx if i had to buy one. So much more bang for the buck and it AINT a prius! haha

Bullshit. You will never see Cmax with over 600 000km and running strong. They are uncomperable. As simple as that.
@@nwo6541 just saw a Cmax with over 804,672 km not too long ago here on youtube lol
C-Max FTW!
You're right!
Did you listen?
C Max is better.

ford has the worst reliability. there, prius won.
Cmax looks like a little toy car. Wish pruis v has at least 160hp
I can say the Ford C-MAX looks a lot better than the Prius!
Cmax looks cheap in every way
I'll take the Ford.
Who wants to pay 30000
