I still find it awesome how she got this role, and then wanted to audition for the role of Megara in Disney's animated Hercules. It's to my understanding that she wasn't actually allowed to audition for Hercules because the creative team didn't believe she was right for the role. In one of her interviews, she said that she basically kept annoying them until they let her audition, and she ended up getting the part.
@@kevinjameslogan That song makes zero sense within the story and they shouldn't have written in the first place. I don't care about songs and singing. I despise disney and musical theatre, the only reason I like the original BATB show is Terrence Mann, Gary Beach, Beth Fowler, Tom Bosley, Heath Lamberts. They are and will forever be the best and deserved so much more recognition.
@@saxongirl2054 - If you mean, “A Change in Me” was written after the show premiered Broadway, you are correct. However, you are incorrect to say that it’s not part of the score or show. It is now an integral part of the score and all the productions I have seen since in the last 25 years use it. There are plenty of composers who add, replace, and cut songs after a show is created. Art is never stagnant. Even WICKED had minor changes made after it opened on Broadway. Also, I can love replacement actors as well as the originals. I saw the original cast as a child when the show opened on Broadway, I saw the Broadway tour twice, and I went back to Broadway to see the closing cast. I can love Susan Egan and Anneliese van der Pol at the same time. Cheers!
Anne Chung in one of the early drafts for the film, It was gonna be based off the musical and use the songs, but when Bill Condon took over as director, he made it fully changed to be based off the animated film, soon Disney asked Alan to write new music instead of using the Broadway music so they could keep it separate. Though when Gulimero del toro was going to direct, he was going to remove all musical elements and make it darker, but he abandoned the project to make his own film. (a reason I heard was that he didn't feel like touching the animated film for how great it was though I'm not completely sure)
I ain't even Bovvered tho well, at the time before it was announced, all over the internet was "Cast Emma Watson as Belle! " "she'd make a perfect belle" which I agreed because she had the looks and all, soon she announced she was casted as Belle which was ironic. The problem with her Belle in my opinion was the auto tune, Disney gave her 3 months to practice singing when she has not taken singing lessons before, so Disney rushed her and that was the final outcome.
aj pennington if she can't sing, she shouldn't be in a musical. End of. The fact that the Internet just handed her the role just goes to show that it's all a bunch of idiots. Samantha Barks would've been better by leaps and bounds.
Same with the Meg voice. I grew up with her singing "I Won't Say I'm In Love" in Hercules, it's weird hearing her sing Belle! But she sounds beautiful anyway.
I watched hercules way before seeing Susan Egan as Belle.. no wonder I am not a fan of her as Belle as everyone else is, I couldn't stand Meg (not because of Egan but because of the way she was written/animated). Hilary Maiberger embodies her more in my opinion.
Hey Kayla, et al, sorry, but these clips are from a press reel, which are just snippets they use for commercials to advertise. It isn't the whole play: just highlights.
I love seeing the acting as well as the numbers! Do you have the full production? If so, please post more!! I love this original cast with all of my beibg!!!!! Lol
Do you happen to have the final battle with Gaston as well? And the Beast transformation with Terrence mann and susan ? I've been looking everywhere for it :) . i'm just so in love with that show and the costumes my god that is real theatre!!
Man she is so beautiful and a beautiful singing voice. I'm still amazed we are see the woman who played Meg in Hercules. But that movie was made after Beauty and the Beast. I home to find a wife who likes stuff like this.
I think Susan sounds better as meg I guess it's because I've watched Hercules too many times and I've never seen the musical in person but yeah all I hear is meg but I really do love her voice
It would mean the world to me if I could see this whole play... That is if you have the whole thing. But if not thats fine I understand. You did after all say not to ask.. LOL But maybe out of the goodness of your heart? For a young girl who has a love for Broadway musicals? :)
Actually, this is the permanent version of the song. The original cast album was recorded either during or before previews began. So therefore, several modifications were made to some of the numbers after that.

Angel Goldstein hahaha
Well my goodness I thought she did fantastic in that movie.
im so glad they allowed her too. i cant imagine megara as anyone else except susan.
Good for her ! I think she did a fantastic job as Megara.
I met Susan last year at Fan Expo Dallas and I told her much I enjoyed her work in both 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Hercules'. She was very sweet.
nobody can play belle better than susan egan. she is just so perfect. i’m actually crying that was so beautiful....
Zaira Matin - I think Anneliese van der Pol was pretty awesome and sang the crap out of “A Change in Me.”

She's the only Belle to me, absolute incredible performance
same
Emma Watson could never.
Emma Watson is pretentious.
it probably pained susan egan to watch the 2017 movie.
It should've been Samantha Barks
It did? D:
Who?
There will never be a better Belle.
Katie Stone Paige O'Hara, the original...
Have you heard Hilary Maiberger?
ZoLexa Paige did a voice over. Doesn't count.
Susan Egan is so talented. She’ll always be my favorite Broadway Belle.
(is applauding like crazy) "Bravo! Bravo!"
I'm now watching the voice of my favorite Disney characters play my favorite Disney "princess"
loveheart YES SAME OMG MEG AND BELLE ARE MY FAVORITES TOO
ZoLexa Susan Egan is lowkey amazing and I'm a little bit obsessed with her😂😂
loveheart yesss
I think I learned more about musical theatre acting watching this than in a lot of the classes I've taken.
I grew up listening to the CD of the original cast. What I wouldn’t give to watch them live
Susan Egan is... incredibly good. Not sure this clip does her justice.
this was made in the nineties what do you expect
it seems kind of like if Severus Snape was the Beast
Oh, my god, you're right! D:
I thought I was the only one who thought this. Lol but now all I hear is Snape. Doesn't help that Emma Watson was in the remake.
Cheers. Shame the new film hasn't got these songs included.
Tommy Marosa ya
Emma Watson would slaughter this song with autotune.
What!!? This song is not in the movie? Can't imagine the story being properly told without it. What a shame.
I'd rather not hear Emma Watson butcher this with autotune

aj pennington and not once, in the entire shenanigan, did they ever think they should cast Samantha Barks instead of Emma?

Absolutely beautiful. Best version out there
All I can hear is Meg from Hercules. It's feels weird. Makes the voice sound disconnected from the video for me.
Same with the Meg voice. I grew up with her singing "I Won't Say I'm In Love" in Hercules, it's weird hearing her sing Belle! But she sounds beautiful anyway.
Oh my god, is this the actual girl who voiced her in the movie?
She was Belle way before Meg. She originated the role of Belle on a Broadway. Simply amazing
+Greg Stern She also voiced Rose Quartz from "Steven Universe".
I watched hercules way before seeing Susan Egan as Belle.. no wonder I am not a fan of her as Belle as everyone else is, I couldn't stand Meg (not because of Egan but because of the way she was written/animated). Hilary Maiberger embodies her more in my opinion.

Georgie Raymond same! I don't really like her as Belle, but this song is amazing
As much as I love her as Belle it's true she's slightly better as Meg because she can portray sarcasm extremely well
She says so herself, with Belle she was acting, Meg is right where she is!
All I hear is Rose Quartz
Awesome ps you are an amazing UA-camer
Why does this have different lyrics then the soundtrack?
i was thinking the same thing
John Smoth, these are the official lyrics. Best I can tell, that bit in the bridge on the cast album was a flub.
sierra bogess should play belle
Emma "Twatson" ain't got shit on Susan Egan!
voidxgrimes then why cast someone who can't sing in a singing role? It should've been Samantha Barks
1:01 How did I not see that doorway?
It would mean the world to me if I could see this whole play... That is if you have the whole thing. But if not thats fine I understand. You did after all say not to ask.. LOL But maybe out of the goodness of your heart? For a young girl who has a love for Broadway musicals? :)
can someone explain me something? This is almost surely one of the earliest performances, then why the song already misses the second verse?
Actually, this is the permanent version of the song. The original cast album was recorded either during or before previews began. So therefore, several modifications were made to some of the numbers after that.
This Beast is sooooo sketchy
Agreed. Maybe Terrance Mann was tired.
Luca Thibert true he should b screaming at her
Luca Thibert He really milks the dramatic...............................................pause.
mikeyralph68 sounds like snape

Disney, Please revive this alongside “Mary Poppins” in the near future
