ah, this brings back memories….i saw him do this on Broadway back in August 1994. I've seen the show several times, but he is still the best Ive seen in this role.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. To me, this song is one of the top male Broadway power ballads. I just wish that there was a little bit more to the song. If I were the director of a revival of BATB, I’d take “How Long Must This Go On?” And add it to the beginning of this to add more length. Then maybe an extra verse before the bridge. Other than that this song is P E R F E C T. One of the most memorable moments in the show hands down. And I love Terrence’s performance here (although he was really brisk with the cutoffs of notes that were held out). Never did like many of the Beasts that followed him and made the song into more of a spoken and sung ballad.
I never got a Terrence Mann video recommended to me, ever. I have to search for it, but every time I watch this clip of him, the first thing UA-cam pushes on my feed is that overrated persian. The most astroturfed guy in the history of musicals and that's why I despise musical theatre.
I think I once heard a quote from Terrence that the Beast is a child in a large animal's body and MAN does he play that well. While there are a few things that bug me about some of his mid-career performances (his lack of diction and his occasional lack of any sort of movement or expression) when it comes down to it he still FEELS like the beast and we see the pain he goes through reflected in a scared and lost child that has NO idea what to do with the clock ticking on his eternal fate.
@@TheBlackLakeSirenoriginally like back in the 1400s when this story was created the prince/beast was 11 and grew to turn 21 as beast so he never matured past that age basically
You know, I could argue with you about how dumb it is to say that musical theatre is very anti white man when you look at the Tonys from literally any year that didn't have Hamilton, when you look at how often Terrence Mann still gets work all over the place, or when you consider that whining about anti-white racism is always the favorite pastime of people with fridge temp IQ. But considering your name is fucking "saxon girl" I somehow get the feeling none of it will take. So instead I'll just say that I gave your mom some pro white man last night
You know, I could spend time arguing with you about how dumb it is to say that musical theatre is very "anti white men." I could point to how white Tony categories and the Broadway theatre scene still is overall. I could point to how fucking prolific Terrence Mann is to this day. Thank you for this gem. I am prepping to portray the role of Beast. Seeing this performance tonight after a vocal rehearsal has just filled me with life. Thank you so much!
Year after year I have to say this is the best Disney has ever done. Even if they dismissed for the awful live film, this song is everything is powerful and emotional and a whole climax.
It reminds me of Groban, who indeed was the most famous beast on TV. He hadn’t won make up, but instead he had a giant puppet and there was no if I can’t love her. There was evermore.
If you ever get the chance, do it! I saw it twice, once when with my grandmother when I was 14, and again last year when a touring company came to where I live. It's amazing!
I saw a community theatre production of it and it was amazing! I had the honor of being in it in high school and was understudy for belle, it was an amazing show to be in
zachariahpictures Yes, it does. It's the Act 1 finale. That little white scrap of fabric is part of Belle's sleeve that tore off in their scuffle. There's a part of the song that's cut here, but you can listen to the cast album here or on Spotify. :)
I can understand everything he says quite clearly. You just wanted to leave an idiotic comment, that's why people like you search for those videos. Also I care more about the acting than the singing and Terry does both beautifully.
Phoned it in. Disappointing! George Chavez. THAT man would have you balling your eyes out. Look him up. Played the Beast at Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center. Best ever.
The video is a press reel, and not what any of the theatre actors are used to, performance-wise. No audience to play off of, nd a video camera in their place. T. Mann live on stage is awesomeness.
Theatre actors get their energy from their audiences. This isn't film. It's actors emoting for an empty theatre with one camera, one take, like an audition tape. It's fun to watch and, yay!, voice, but doesn't do the actors justice. Sadly until the NYPL releases any of the filmed live Broadway performances, it's all we get.
There's a gap in the song because I edited out the bit when Mann moves and the camera guy has to stand up, stop, and adjust filming to the Beast up by the rose before they resume. It's chunks of a rehearsal. I'm sure it was rewarding. Regardless, I'm 100% thrilled it was filmed. I'll stick with Terry Mann, you can appreciate George Chavez.
Terrance Mann is THE BEST BEAST I'VE EVER HEARD :) He gives the certain deepness and emotion to Beast I've never seen any other Beast do.

I couldn’t agree more
he is absolutely incredible. what a voice.

My favorite song/part of the musical! This was simply beautiful - I had chills listening to him :)
like velvet, his voice!

I agree, but if anyone except Ramin, is beast…. I’ll take over.. and replace Josh Groban too.

Child? Shouldn't the beast be almost 21?

Yes. Especially, in Lost Command after confronting Padme's ghost.
Anakin? Yes!

Btw, will you be posting up more of the show? :

You can definitely tell on the studio album he sings more clearly cus he doesn’t have thangs in his mouth
