I don't know man, I kinda wanted to hear Preston ramble about ghouls and fusion cores for the 21st time, in all seriousness yea I'm glad most of the dialogue it's cut too
Jon, three useful things: 1. When you replace something via crafting, you get the original mod in your inventory *and it has weight*. I saw the sight for the pistol in there. To make them completely disappear you can drop them and scrap them as settlement objects (you don't get any materials). 2. While light build improves sneaking a bit more and gives precious, precious AP, pocketed almost universally generates more 'weight reduction' (in the form of added capacity). 3. Settlement inventory is weird. By which I mean the workbench storage. For purposes of gathering more stuff it caps at 200 items, and it doesn't care what items. After that salvage, crops, and water purifiers will make you nothing, so carefully managing your settlement surplus inventory is vital. For example, those nuka cola need to go in a separate container, since they are not used as crafting materials. Any storage container you *craft* in sanctuary will be mostly safe storage, though people can pick up weapons out of them especially if the settlement is being attacked.
yeah, light build and muffled re a bit useless, could add light build to heavier armour in late game when the pieces are 15 weight each, but muffled becomes useless fast because of sneak perks. and settlement inv is shitty, basically have to store everything in red rocket and connect later with provisioners to get your water. i started using a global stash mod that just moves everything from every settlement into itself (manually), then back into local workbenches when you need them, which helps with junk mgmt too (scavengers keep working properly)
purified water and food still get generated. I played a challenge run of loot nothing and farmed water like it was going out of style and put all my junk from other settlements into sanctuary but id still come back to about 80-120 water
I always shove my mods into the settlement, didnt know about the auto collection of excess stuff so I will definitley keep that in mind in my playthroughs, and will put the mods into their own jar
Yeah never leave a fusion core in your power armor, or your logistics settler will wear it to fight raider attack, then travel the wasteland in it and get it damaged lol
I've just realised that rads only lower health if there is no gap between the health and rad meters. That means that when thinking about entering a radiated area the best option would be to go after any areas where it's likely damage can't be avoided anyway, seperating losing rads and losing health into two seperate categories. I mean ideally you don't lose either but this could be a minor factor in planning to save every precious point.
That's part of the humor and entertainment of his playthroughs. Things never quite go to plan, but that is also what keeps the story line interesting, like in a novel. When characters run into setbacks, it ruins plans and makes the plot more interesting, raises the tension, and keeps you guessing. Otherwise, it would get somewhat stale.
JON. You missed this in your Frost playthrough as well, where the caps stashes are, nearby to Sanctuary, on top of the circular tank there is a box with rad-away and purified water
Yes! The pump housing where you find the .44! He was saying "There's nowhere I can get off the ground here" while talking about the mole rats, yet you can get on top of that to get the rad-away and then pick off the mole rats from there.
"Nothing useful" he says about the body carrying squirrel bits when he was complaining 5 minutes ago about being low of food. And the iguana bits on the body next to the survival guide!
Maybe it's because Iguana Bits are very likely human meat in this game. It shares the same model as mystery meat in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Fallout 3 it actually looked like an Iguana. Watch the Oxhorn video on this if you want to a thorough explanation of this.
As someone who Is really struggling with their mental health right now, I still always look forward to every video Jon releases. I am sure there are others who look to him as a sourcse for comfort snd entertainment. And we weary few, watching with a smirk as Jons perception somehow manages to still be nonexistent, are endlessly grateful to you Jon. Thank you, and take care everyone.

"Damage reduction is low priority! Don't get caught and kill things dead top priority!!" Ah yes. The tune that was changed the second an ass was slapped, and slapped hard. Gotta love rewatches where you can pinpoint the moment where things went awry. Lol. And in this case, it was here.
Jon is finicky when it comes to his cooking: "Well, I'm not bloody cooking on that dodgy station. No telling what's been dripping on that. I shall make my own, thank you very much."
Good point, except maybe pocketed or deep pocketed mods which are only .5 lbs but can increase your carry capacity after a raid in locations that have an armorer's workbench. I swap out shadowed or lightweight versions like this after clearing a location when needed.
Or he could drop junk items when passing any workbench and scrap them manually then steal the components from the bench. He's....not unlocked many though.
fun thing I just recently discovered about that, if you press the reload button you can throw the held item, holding it then releasing charges the throw.
I was afraid he might accidentally hit a lightpost in all the excitement. I admit though, it would've been a damn funny way for the run to have ended xD
Jon: this playthrough is blessed. Managed to get lucky with the ammo and somehow keep managing to not get shot at first! Game: angrily applies one damage out of spite
13:34 John: "Stimpaks are probably the best weight to value ratio in the game" Prewar money: Am I a joke to you? Edit: Yes I am aware of Folders, pencils etc but I think that of all the unweighted items pre war money is the most valuable so It in my opinion wins the tie among the infinite value to weight ratio crew
He's ignoring pistol ammo which has caps to weight value of about 70 - 100. Not as good as Stimpaks but not too shabby. 38 ammo is a special case because it's immune to buy/sell spreads, so it's basically money.
Well technically the weight to value ratio of zero weight items is not a number, so I assumed he meant a ratio in terms of items with weight that would generate a real number. In order to have a "best" there has to be a defined operation for comparison.
Jon - Can't craft cooking station in Sunshine Tidings because he doesn't have Local Leader and so can't cook the meat he's gathered. Also Jon - Walks right past the pre-built cooking station in Sunshine Tidings.
Low carry capacity only means you travel back and forth more, or remember where you stashed extra items. In my first survival run, I had stashes all over the map, sometimes forgot about them and got pleasant surprises upon finding them again.
Coasts are an ocean-only thing. I have no idea why, but if it's an ocean, it's a coast, and if it's not, it's a shoreline. Makes no sense to me, but since when has English had to make sense?
@@TheMrVengeance Seas and Oceans are interchangeable in a lot of people's minds that's probably the mistake with that. But what I think he's trying to say is that ocean/sea = coastline whilst lake/river/canal/whatever = shoreline? Even though you call ocean/sea shorelines too?
Funnily enough, while coast only applies to the sea/ocean, shore can apply to any large body of water including the sea/ocean. So if you're standing next to the ocean, you can use either coast or shore, but if you're near a lake, you can only use shore. There's also another word for the shore of a body of water: the littoral zone (behave, everyone). Seriously, go look it up, it's a real thing. It's often found near the C (heh).
Humans like to categorize and label things. Shore is essential just land adjacent to water. The word coast gets more specific, and as a result conveys more information. Rivers have shores as well, but we typically call them river banks unless it is a substantial river.
@@parkerno0142 It's right there at the time linked. In that exact second you can see it on screen. When Jon walks past it the UI even says "cooking station: craft".

Jon, you hadnt taken any damage befor the 5 rads. FO4's health reading is just weird sometimes. Evidence: 130hp - 1.15 = 128.85, which is what you have after the rad damege.
@@BRUXXUS Oh yeah, hmm. Maybe its a bug with the game, or the mod he's using? But I'm pretty sure I've anecdotally experienced FO4 doing this myself before - when I'm at full health the pipboy reading will often be one less than max, or the health bar will look not-full. Its the same at 22:28.
Sometimes in Fallout games you come across sacked caravans where Raiders or such were successful and would have loot to sell. The caravans that survive would probably have Raider loot to sell.
I've never really understood the idea of adding pockets to your smaller gear, like a shoulder brace, but I do enjoy the comically absurd idea of shoving a Fat-Man into a tiny pocket in your shoulder brace or leg armor.
Yo Jon, big thing to remember, if you loot their guns, you get the ammo from their guns. you can then drop the gun and you still have the extra ammo. this is important if you want to get any ammo for free early game, like how you ignored Simon's gun (at drumlin diner) in episode 1 (likely .308 rounds).

John, do remember to watch out for random encounter hotspots like the house nearby drumlin diner on the way to corvega , the area beside hangmans alley if you start going to oberland station (like seriously every time i go there even on survival there will be a random event {mostly raiders ghouls ect) and be i've also noticed that again even on survival the raiders and turrets outside backstreet apparel like to re spawn very frequently. And of note the fridge on the south east? riverbank facing sanctuary is another common hotspot which has spawned deathclaws in for me before. Stay safe out there john and good luck!

Thank you for this series. It's been a long year. I can't tell you how much it matters to have something to look forward to, and damn, do I look forward to these. Bless you.
Re: The odd 1 HP loss. You were 130HP when you went into Wicked Shipping @53:09 and then 129 as you left @58:56, so my guess is that you suffered a 1HP hit from some Bethesda Physics object, as that may not be detected as a hit by the mod? It was definitely sometime within those time brackets.
Only way to know for sure would be to review the raw video captures from that time period and see if you could hear the sound effect of taking a hit somewhere. Its a bit hard in the edited version, even if it was captured in the uploaded video, the game audio is quiet, so near impossible to detect.
I wonder if it could have been fall damage. I suspect the mod probably just tracks when the value that is the players HP changes, and not the source of the change. My money is on it just being a visual bug caused by levelling up and some rounding due to the finite accuracy of digital numbers.
Jon, you can get a permanent +1 str or +1 agi by building a weight bench or acrobatic horse in a settlement then using it. You can even alternate between the two (and more options are available once you get to the vault tec DLC). Additionally, .38 ammo and 5mm ammo is VERY worth carrying. It has amazing trade value because 1 round will ALWAYS sell for 1 bottlecap. Meaning 1000 5mm rounds is worth 1000 caps.
A way to get bonus exp in this game is to do BOTH the hacking minigame AND the lockpick minigame. Do the hacking one first but DON’T open the door. If you do, you lose out on the exp from lockpicking. Then exit out of hacking and then do the lockpick one. This way you get the exp from both of them. This can be long and tedious, especially with the hacking minigame, but can be useful when trying to get exp to level up. It also works great with idiot savant as it can trigger for both minigames for a ton of exp.

Haven't played Fallout 4 in years so I decided to do my own YOLO run after watching your video last week. My run ended after 30 minutes when the first Raiders you ever see in Concord immediately threw two Molotov's, killing me instantly.
Yep, giving raiders so much distance they can't use throwables whenever possible is crucial.
Ah the Molotov. Absolutely terrifying in survival.
At least it was only thirty minutes!
Ah the Molotov... The singular reason I hated survival for the longest time. Oh the memories...

Jon, 5 seconds later: "That wasn't part of the plan..."

I had a new plan for my recent play through, I played until I had a bottlecap mine and put the mine where the Deathclaw pops out, it worked well and even blew up the car and he was nearly dead so that saved on minigun ammo 😉I now look out for squirrel bits to make Squirrel Stew to get extra XP for 2 hours of gameplay and Berry Mentats to have more Int and highlights living things.
I was violently refreshing my page in hopes of seeing this pop up lol. We've waited 5 years for this dangit, I'll not wait another second.

Jon, three useful things:
Any storage container you *craft* in sanctuary will be mostly safe storage, though people can pick up weapons out of them especially if the settlement is being attacked.
he knows about point 2
yeah, light build and muffled re a bit useless, could add light build to heavier armour in late game when the pieces are 15 weight each, but muffled becomes useless fast because of sneak perks.
and settlement inv is shitty, basically have to store everything in red rocket and connect later with provisioners to get your water. i started using a global stash mod that just moves everything from every settlement into itself (manually), then back into local workbenches when you need them, which helps with junk mgmt too (scavengers keep working properly)
purified water and food still get generated.
There's a small, sadistic part of me that enjoys watching Jon's plans fall apart.
This game is to random for his plans that rely specific things to happen.

John, you need to drop off your gun/armor “Mods” in your settlement because they clutter your inventory and weigh you down
Good point, except maybe pocketed or deep pocketed mods which are only .5 lbs but can increase your carry capacity after a raid in locations that have an armorer's workbench. I swap out shadowed or lightweight versions like this after clearing a location when needed.
When presented this choice, always bet on Deathclaw. It's the safer option.

Synth components: Am I a joke to you?
Folders and Subway Tokens: Yeah, look at this guy. Actin' like we ain't
For non zero weight items Stimpaks aren't bad but many chems are better.

Makes no sense to me, but since when has English had to make sense?
Riverbanks say hello.
@@azalde614 Lakes also have a shore. And seas also count as coast. Not sure what OP is on about.

The biggest plothole in fallout is how anyone makes a living as a bandit when wandering traders like trashcan Carla exists
Sometimes in Fallout games you come across sacked caravans where Raiders or such were successful and would have loot to sell. The caravans that survive would probably have Raider loot to sell.

I'm impressed video is barely out 90 mins and you have figured out the mystery.
Its a shame the mod can't simply disable damage from physics objects, but I guess that would probably have side effects somehow.
The mystery goes back further than that. When he checks his pip boy, at around 22:41 he's already at 119/120.
I actually got the idiot savant kicking in when I finished the first minuteman quest, and it was indeed op - leveled me up twice in survival!
Literally been hitting refresh for the last two hours waiting for this to pop up!!
Same here
Jon, you can get a permanent +1 str or +1 agi by building a weight bench or acrobatic horse in a settlement then using it.
