When the last body hit the ground, she calmly put the minigun away, lit a cigarette, and I sold her the loot I took off the corpses.

This is so weird, it feels like 5-ish years ago, when I found out about a British guy doing YOLO FO3. I basically learned how to play FO4 with him, I knew all about the game before I started playing it.
After watching MATN play trough FO4 as Miss Bacon using only melee weapons it motivated me to buy the game AND build a new (cheap) gaming PC because my old one was only ever meant for work. So, thanks for making me get back into gaming after 10 years. But then again I also spend about 650 Euros I hadn’t planned on so... thanks anyway!
First of his vids I watched was Fallout NV JSawyer Mod. Until that point I'd no idea that you could take multiple shots using VATS, I just assumed you got one shot on an enemy in VATS if it didn't kill it - too bad! chance wasted. I played all the way through the game thinking VATS was useless, and mostly just manually aiming. When I saw this guy using action points to queue up shots it was like a revelation, and I immediately started a second playthrough of my own, wondering how I could have been so dumb.

Then the only non-human was... Dogmeat. Mods restore the idea where you can have Dogmeat tag along with other companions.
The one mod I could see myself getting because of how useful dogmeat can be. If you get Issue #12 of Astoundingly Awesome Tales, Dogmeat takes 10% less damage. Unfortunately, issue 12 is inside of the institute.

Ha, very true - though armor mods are VERY intensive on adhesive and oil too - I suspect it's still better to prioritise a couple of things above them.
Way i see it, stealth is already kinda broken in FO4. Adding the stealth from shadowed doesnt do that much and having better guns to save on ammo weight is probably the better call early on. And the added armor is pointless at low level.
"Oh yeah, that thing I mentioned about having a husband and a baby..." BANG "...nevermind, as it turns out." Got a good laugh out of me and my daughter. :D
Well, you could say he kinda spoiled that with the character name. He named her Ms which could be married or unmarried (and might be part of the rep's misunderstanding with her husband standing within sight), but he definitely called her Miss which is clearly unmarried. And that's supposed to be what she told the Vault-Tec rep herself. She was clearly planning to get to the vault alone (as her sprint ahead of Nate and Shaun further supports). It must have been a relief to see someone relieve her of the unexpected baggage. She can now live her life free of the influence of either of them. ;)
Do you need science for that? Anyways settlement building is a good idea. Need a bed and a chair everywhere, just in case there's a rad storm, and some food that can be boiled into adhesive never hurts. 👍🏼
@@TheGrinningViking In survival mode absolutely! I hope he picked a base other than Hangman's ally this time even if it is genuinely one of if not THE best settlement for Survival.
@@Thebritishhistorian I mean, it would be nice for visual diversity, but Hangman's Alley is BY FAR the best survival base for so many reasons. That being said, in my Local Leader Survival run I did maintain and decorate 4 seperate bases in the center of each quadrant of the map for the sake of expeditions. While my other settlements were just encampments with nothing more than crafting stations, beds, etc... those 4 locations were built up almost as much as Hangman's Alley.
Jumping on cars seems to be fine but if you bump next to them or run straight into them at under level 100 and without power armor then you die within a second.
Hey Jon, I have a tip that might interest you. When you kill an enemy, always take the gun that the enemy was using to shoot you. There is always spare ammo in the gun itself, which is very helpful. I noticed you didn't do this when you looted Simone. She had 5 rounds of .308 ammo, but she had more in her gun. But you only picked up 5 rounds. I hope this helps you. Good luck on your run!
Jon, you’ve got to be more proactive on VATs usage. As soon as you’re done attacking you need to cancel out of it so that you can go right back into it if need be. That would have saved you from the two Radroaches that we’re grouped together at the top of the stairs. This way nothing can sneak up on you unexpectedly.
50:46 you can create ammo using the manufacturing stuff that came with the contraptions dlc. What ammo is available is tied to the gun nut and science perks.
There's a scripted fight with random enemies, when you are finished talking to Trashcan Carla. Those ghouls were it. You just happened to ignore them, dragging them to Drumlin Diner.
I was glad the super mutants didn't spawn afterwards when going back to concord. And thought he was lucky the molotov didn't explode when thrown close to the dinner.
I may be wrong but I actually I think there's a random event that triggers around the roadside billboard close to Drumlin. You are just close enough to activate it when you go behind the diner itself. I had a playthrough where super mutants made an appearance after I went behind the Drumlin to get the jump on the drug dealer duo. Jon would have loved that!
Its not scripted to Carla, the crossroads between carla and the diner is a random encounter ummm.. spot. Every time you go by it has a chance to spawn enemies or others, but youre right he dragged them over.
The first human interaction your character has with another human being after being frozen for 2 centuries is flirting with the first woman she sees and giving her a wedding ring. Hmm...

My money is on this: Jon makes it through the entire game without taking a single point of damage or rads, then suddenly dies while facing the Red Death.
Running around with one hit point due to rad poisoning, and explaining his plight in great detail, while hovering the mouse cursor over a med box stuffed-to-the-brim with Radaway, which he completely fails to notice and ignores is my bet. We should have a 'how will John die?' lottery, and start placing bets. I'll take some of that action.
Hard to believe it's been a year since the beginning. I remember the wait from Fallout 3 to Fallout 4 YOLO, and man it didn't disappoint. So happy to be rewatching this.
Regarding Dogmeat: I would recommend not taking him. Sure, he's good for carry capacity and killing enemies sometimes. But he's also a liability. He'll draw enemies where you don't want them, or draw their attention to you. Constantly get in the way. Trigger booby-trapped doors. It's not worth it.
@@kentastic1683 he literally mentioned maybe having Dogmeat since the game doesn't count him as a companion in the video. He literally asked the people in the comments to give their opinion.

If her husband had been content with just manning the poop deck, we wouldn't have to deal with the whole "Shawn" plot. But no, he had to use the front hatch
Jon, I urge you not to use molitov cocktails. Yes, they are powerful, but they're the most likely thing that will kill you. The amount of times the throwing arc has lied to me, telling me a throw was safe only to have it brush up against something I couldn't see and instantly kill me, is ridiculous.
Glowing Sea can be done with Power Armor or Hazmat Suit and several doses of Rad-X. Subsequent trips via Vertibird. And he's going to lose health at some point. Once he's lost some health, he can safely take a few rads. I'm more worried about unplanned rads than ones you can prep for.
There should be a mod that randomly applies scars at certain damage thresholds. It would make the most sense for challenges like this. It's less obvious how it would work for a normal game since it wouldn't make sense to erase scars when using a stimpak.

50:50: - "there's no way to make ammo" - Jon, there's absolutely a way to make ammo in the crafting bench, under manufacturing, I believe, and it's tied to Gun Nut!
Just a quick thought about a Fan theory that came to mind after that Vats tutorial. There's a Fan theory that says you are a Gen 3 if not a possible Gen 4 Synth when you wake up the second time. The reason I bring this up is cause you used Vats on those Radroaches BEFORE you got the Pipboy. Gen 3's were supposed to have Vats built in. Interesting this is actually mentioned in game and this is the only Fallout game where you get the Pipboy AFTER the first combat you enter. All others give you the Pipboy first.
@@shadow9743 The theory I saw, think it was from another UA-camr actually, mentioned the encounters you have during the Main Quest also. You can find Deacon watching you at the main Settlements and the encounter with Dogmeat is very convenient. What I mean is you find a friendly perfectly healthy Dog shortly after leaving the Vault. Also you can find observation posts at many plot points with Railroad symbols. There's one outside the Vault, one overlooking the Red Rocket, etc..
@@rolandgunslinger37 there's also lore in the institute that explains they actually use birds like the ones that were all around the vault when you leave
Do not take Dogmeat with you. He’ll just get you killed. He draws attention, sets off traps, and most importantly, will always block the way you want/need to go! That is the last thing you want in a YOLO run.
"And I'm going to take Endurance." When you started with 4 Endurance, I was thinking you had decided to skip Aqua Girl as part of your self-imposed restrictions, but you hadn't mentioned it. This was my second guess, because Aqua Girl is probably the single best perk point you spend in Survival mode. Pretty much the only reason not to get it is because you have a very specific build that doesn't allow Endurance 5.... but honestly, even then, you should make sacrifices to make it fit.
And the only reason not to take Gun Nut is because you could concievably scavenge all the parts without too much trouble, and it just saves you effort and random chance. But every bit of scavenging comes at the cost of health, so... heck yah!
He's definitely taking Aqua Girl at some point. He mentioned in the undersea diving vid that he realized it was a major benefit and that he was going to use it in YOLO as a travel option. Taking it this early would be a waste because the current quests are right in Concord and there's no water route that would save him from any brutal fights. I expect we'll see it when he starts moving into Boston proper.
@@Sines314 The nice thing about Gun Nut is that it unlocks things way earlier than they will be reliably available in the shops (or from random enemy drops, not that those are very reliable). You're not going to have a wide selection of shops or early gun mods available at 13 when you can take Gun Nut 2 and max out all early game guns. And while you can eventually get level 3 shops in your settlements to get you all the Gauss Rifle mods you want, you'd have to be pretty insanely lucky to get the parts you need by 41. And timing matters. Getting mods for a gun that would have already been obsolete if you'd taken Gun Nut and could mod the new model just isn't that helpful. And getting to the end game guns is significantly faster if you can mod them and don't have to wait for particular parts to drop. Fully kitted out silent .308 Combat Rifle by 39? Fully modded Gauss Rifle by 41? For me, at least, that's usually LONG before I have level 3 shops set up, if I bother to take the perks to set them up at all, and well before I see those mods available on vendor-sold gear. Of course, taking those perks delays your other perk progression, it's true. But I usually find there's a dead spot in the 30s anyway when I'm taking alternate weapon perks or something. In survival you're going to end up at level 100+ anyway and get everything remotely useful. And, outside a few key perks, having better guns earlier is usually better than being a couple perks up. Also, he bumped Endurance to 5 with the SPECIAL book, so he's clear to take Aquagirl whenever he needs it. It's clearly very good in YOLO, but I find it not that useful in Survival general play. Past level 15 or so when you generally are regularly spending time around Diamond City, doctors are cheap and easy, and outside of Pull the Plug you won't be swimming much early game. It's not needed as a safe travel method to Diamond City, as there are at least two routes with minimal danger and I make the level 4 "go get Piper so I can get double exp for as many locations" run every playthrough without it. By the mid 40s I have a radiation-removal arch in every major settlement anyway and I stop caring about rads generally, outside of bringing some Rad X along for unexpected situations. Or, you know, if you don't want to take Science, you could probably clear Hallucigen and head there every time you need a scrub. I think the one place Aquaboy/Aquagirl is actually really useful is the NE part of the map, where the land enemies are brutal. And because of that, I tend to spend very little time up there and don't learn the safe routes to places. Being able to travel by sea could get you to places with much less conflict. Everywhere else, it's generally possible to get to without too much conflict. Let's say you want to travel from Diamond City to Bunker Hill. Seems totally like a good use of Aquaboy, right? But you can reach Boston Common by killing 3 ghouls and a raider (just head east past the library, killing the ghouls near Diamond City and the one raider in the building on the south side of the street). You can then reach Goodneighbor without killing anything (though it's helpful to get rid of the one ground floor Super Mutant in the building west of Goodneighbor itself). Once at Goodneighbor, you can snipe the 3 Gunners outside the Mass Fusion building easily, and then you're clear to Cabot House simply by heading north on that same street. Cabot House to Bunker Hill has no enemies at all unless you get unlucky with a bridge chokepoint spawn, and even then it's super easy to deal with them. There's not even many random encounters on this path - only right by the Mass Fusion building itself, so it stays very safe once you've cleared the handful of enemies there. . This is another run I usually make very early game to pick up the Live & Love magazines at Goodneighbor and Bunker Hill. Oh, the other place it's really, really useful is an early Taking Independence. That's one of the most brutal places to travel to by land, simply because South Boston tends to spawn nasty Mirelurks and Deathclaws, and even getting there requires traversing the Theater District or somehow working around the Super Mutant junkyard south of the city proper, neither of which is a walk in the park.
In a normal Survival run, you don't want Aqua Boy/Girl. Once you have Ghoulish 4, rads are you friend, and you can't undo perks. Here, however, I'll concur it makes sense.
Be careful, while Aqua Girl / Boy blocks the rads, it does not block the disease risk. I got sick several times while swimming with the perk in survival mode.
I’ve been looking forwards to this since the first day the game launched. I knew it wouldn’t happen for many years, because I knew you would need to know the game very very well before even attempting it, but it’s finally here and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Good luck Jon!

This is so weird, it feels like 5-ish years ago, when I found out about a British guy doing YOLO FO3. I basically learned how to play FO4 with him, I knew all about the game before I started playing it.
Same dude, same
After watching MATN play trough FO4 as Miss Bacon using only melee weapons it motivated me to buy the game AND build a new (cheap) gaming PC because my old one was only ever meant for work. So, thanks for making me get back into gaming after 10 years. But then again I also spend about 650 Euros I hadn’t planned on so... thanks anyway!
Same here. Found jon of manyatruenerd 5 years ago during the fo4 hype before the game came out.

Well, you could say he kinda spoiled that with the character name. And that's supposed to be what she told the Vault-Tec rep herself. She was clearly planning to get to the vault alone (as her sprint ahead of Nate and Shaun further supports). It must have been a relief to see someone relieve her of the unexpected baggage. She can now live her life free of the influence of either of them. ;)

I've had some nasty encounters there at a levels 1-5 including a Radscorpion and ghouls with a glowing one.
Its not scripted to Carla, the crossroads between carla and the diner is a random encounter ummm.. spot. Every time you go by it has a chance to spawn enemies or others, but youre right he dragged them over.

No joke, I heard "Allie to her friends" as "I'll eat her friends." Made me question which run I was watching for a moment.
I expect he'll go cannibal sooner or later. So much more food available then
"Well my friend, me and you are going to be best friends. Maybe I'll bury you or something." Top tier quote
"She's got a theoretical degree in physics."
That is such a fast-talky charisma check to..... actually not lie at all.
I'm dying XD
And also it's a New Vegas reference.
Oh shit, I didn't even catch that. My brain just assumed that he said a degree in theoretical physics.
But then again, I am not a smart man.
Did they sent you to replace me??? No one can replace Mr fantastic!
I thought about this while watching the vault section almost sounds believable i mean how do we know Shawn didn't replace the player character
@@shadow9743 yeah, I thought since the institute makes synth animals they made lots of birds to use as flying cameras
Do not take Dogmeat with you. He’ll just get you killed. He draws attention, sets off traps, and most importantly, will always block the way you want/need to go! That is the last thing you want in a YOLO run.
Sets off traps? Are you sure? He doesn't seem to set off land mines in mine. Not sure about laser trip wires though....
And worst of all, he'll open doors that you don't want open.
Jon, make sure you’re picking up people’s guns for the ammo. If you pick up a gun, you’ll often get a couple bullets from it, up to a full magazine!
4 long years of waiting.
The Day of Legend,
The Day of Judgment,
The Day of Glory.
It has arrived.
2020 isn’t bad,it just has a lot of mods installed
Lol
And not enough RAM.
If only we could disable infection so easily.
@@ananonynoussauce7616 god forgot to instal the anti virus and the VPN
imagine if the rest of history was just god playing vanilla, but in 2020 he got bored and downloaded a ton of mods?
How has it already been 3 years!? I remember when everyone was asking for this and it was taking forever 😭
"And I'm going to take Endurance."
When you started with 4 Endurance, I was thinking you had decided to skip Aqua Girl as part of your self-imposed restrictions, but you hadn't mentioned it.
Yes im back for a rewatch of entire run, finished Bacon and she inspired me to do a no gun run.
]EDIT[
John Henry (my melee run) annihilated everything (even on very hard), damned good fun that was.
In celebration and thanks to Jon and Claire for this wondrous event, I sat through 89 seconds of an advert about toilet paper.
P. D. Shoot, O. N. Again and Ms. Finalley. What a group.
I can’t believe that it’s been 2 years, I remember watching every episode the day it came out. Thank you Jon
It's here, it's actually here! The thing every subscriber of Jon's channel has been asking for since the release of Fallout 4 FIVE years ago... The YOLO has begun. God speed Jon. You're gonna need it.
Honestly, the sea captain thing wouldn't even be as kinky as the Canon info we have about Nora and nate. You know, going at it in a public park and what not.
I think the implication is that its not Nate's hat.
You know how historians like to categorize events by Eras, like the Classical or Renaissance era?
Fallout 4 feels like it came out yesterday. In my mind, we're still in that era, but this video came out two years ago!
Jon role playing as a character that role plays in the bedroom
