Half of these people don’t even know who this legend is. Do yourself a favor and listen to her music, not only the early years. Joni is a living treasure. She helped a lot of us get through our youths. Beautiful soul!
I still remember buying BLUE on vinyl, back in the day. I was just a kid, but the lyrics blew me away, as well as her unique and original guitar playing!! She's written some of the greatest songs, and has an incredible back catalogue. There's NOONE who has her unique voice and sound. Certainly no new female artists can match her!! A true original.
Those who tag her as a "folk singer" are missing the point. She is complex in a way that continues to entertain and allows us to rediscover her again and again. If you are just starting to listen to her music you have years of enjoyment and wonder ahead. The real deal and a true artist in every way
60's&70's music is a treasure box. Even though it was a bit before my time it was always played in my house. They don't make music or too many musicians like that anymore.
I grew up a true rock and roll guy, and Court and Spark was always in my collection, along with The Who, Pink Floyd, The Dead, et al. Joni rocks. Imho.
She brought class to a classless ceremony (at least it has been for the past 20 years or so). This woman is a musician and artist in the highest sense of those words. If people understood how influential and pivotal she has been in the history of music, she would be winning a lot more awards. Her tunings alone are brilliant mysteries. ♥️
Classless ceremony? Because you don't satisfy with the award results or what? Grammys has not changed much lol. Let's not have this "good old days" bias.
@@marcus22221 I’m an old woman & what I dislike is everyone wishing for the good old days! Everyday in my almost 80 yr old life is a good day! I look @ life from both sides now….thank you,Joanie!
So glad to see Joni's health has improved. Wild to hear her laugh the same eternally girl-ish laugh on "Big Yellow Taxi". Her genius is something that will be studied for generations.
A. She looked cool as hell. B. She's still relevant - one of her songs was featured (in the STORYLINE, no less) of this year's Best Picture Oscar winner (CODA). C. Shout-out to the physical therapist! Doesn't get more real.
Thank you,Joni!! For giving all of us your heart and soul filled songs.Watching you boogie up to that podium was great. Your speech and laughter was simple , sweet and generous as always. You are a hero and a blessing in this or any world you find yourself in.
Joni Mitchell is an icon she still can perform great after all these years she actually owned her Laurel canyon for over 50 years she said she would not sell it cuz her memories are there what a lady and❤
So many of the “reaction videos” on UA-cam have made the music we grew up with (like Joni) relevant to a much younger generation. I think that fantastic. Congratulations Joni. You’re a legend. I’m glad young people are getting “a case of you”.
I envy newcomers to Joni's music, who will have a thrilling journey ahead, but I am happy to be 50 years along that road, with her albums as signposts to events in my life along the way.
How lucky am I to have grown up having JM and others like her in my life. There will never be artists like these ever again. In this easy monotonal throw away musical times, that musical and lyrical brilliance is gone forever.
Both of my children are big fans of Joni’s. If they discovered her music from my collection of her albums I can say I’m proud to have introduced her incredible talent to them.
Love the "Blue" album. Checking out her performances with Jaco, Metheny, Brecker and company. Stunning stuff. Her solo work is stellar as well. She's first rank and if Canada only had her and Glen Gould they'd still have bragging rights. Geniuses.
Nice to see Joni's still hanging in there. She's earned her accolades ~ Time and tide move on for all of us. Let Joni gracefully dance into the sunset -

I was luckily the Covid era visitor at the hospital (only two per day at different times) through my Mom's last day alive. I played her Mrs. Mitchell's Ladies of The Canyon album as a last piece of music.
Totally adore her! and no, that's not an exaggeration! Just loved the way she walked the stage moving to the music! Thank you, Joni! Thank you today and always! You are an angel!
Shadows and Light is still one of the best live albums ever recorded. I've been a fan since Hissing of Summer Lawns. Most of today's so called stars aren't good enough to polish her guitar strings.
FINALLY. I see so many vids about Joni, but rarely see praise for Shadows and Light. Why? It’s a jewel! And the personnel on that tour! Only the best musicians at the top of their form. S&L is still the most played in my collection ever since 1981 when I bought it.
Too bad... I wish I had have the chance to see her performing live at least once in my life. To me Joni is and always will be my number one in songwriting and as a female vocalist. With every song she wrote and composed she is a great story teller. Thanks for sharing! Hope she still is doing fine. Thanks a lot for sharing. Cheers DimiZ
Isn’t it funny that here all these years later, Joni Mitchell is up against an album “reworking” of Prince’s songs (Sign of the Times) and they were true good friends in life. Prince said it was a Joni Mitchell concert that he went to when he was really young, 17 or 18, and he sat front & center, that left a huge & everlasting impression on him. Joni Mitchell said she remembered seeing him there. She was one of his serious inspirations, they got together socially (per Wendy Melvoin) and he loved her. He also did his own version of “A Case of You” that is hauntingly beautiful.💜
Who could believe this lady was from a tiny prairie town in Alberta Canada? Her insight and imagination went way beyond our borders. To me she was such a part of the peace movement and when I hear her songs I’m 16 again. Thank you Joni 🙏✌🏼
It was so good to see her. It's understandable given her age, and the health problems she's had, that she wasn't entirely mobile, but she was - with her words, her aura and especially that laugh - unmistakably Joni. One of the greatest songwriters of any era.
Joni, darling genius Joni! It's heartbreaking to see her needing physical help walking onto that stage, but thank heavens she is defiantly still with us. Such a deserved win!
Joni was one of those kindred folk who helped form my existence in those formative years 50 some years ago. And after those times, showing me that music was not everything it was seemingly chalked up to be. Especially at time when music was a controlling cultural factor, even an escape from so many realities so many years ago, Joni's wonderful break from her own image, like so many folks being created, crafted, and controlled by the shiny chains of celebrity, those star making machines of that fast changing era of pop culture. Her exit from that limelight also opened me up to a universe of choices & a world of creative independence, a world without a need for a name or identity, a world of poetry & prose, of expressive writing with or without rhymes or reasons, a world of Painting, of thinking in color, gazing through a canvas window at the shadows & shapes of which some became dimensional sculptural realities in still life, and of coarse the free form of jazz, a loopless sound that can be heard and enjoyed without a beginning or an end, a fusion of all the creative senses applied to having a foundation of simple roots coming from folk as Joni. Now years later, thanks to all those simple folk, i too have my favorite cane i use for physical support, those shortcomings i live with daily, and a place in my mind i can go to create or contemplate this long existence without deadlines, agendas, a name or identity. Just feeling as a part of it all. a brush stroke painting a note & creating a sound.
The Grammys today are not the Grammys that use to be. Where's the diversity quality and raw creativity? Granted, there are musicians who have paid their dues in some way or form but an artist like Joni Mitchell is a legend and icon in the true sense of the word. Her music (and generosity in sharing it with us) is an insightful accurate articulation of emotional wisdom and we are the better for it. Everyone in the audience should have taken home a copy of Court and Spark to listen to and realize its brilliance.
Love the little jig Joni did walking across the stage. Fancy dancer ;) You know she sounds better vocally when she speaks. Almost like her younger voice. I would dearly love a little 4 track EP of something new from the queen of voices. Hope you are feeling well enough to create some music Miss Joni. But whatever makes you smile in these days!
Seeing Prince's Sign of the TImes Album nominated along with Joni reminded me that she was one of Prince's top musical inspirations. He had good taste in music!!
I am in my mid 60s, thus grew up w/ Joni, Prince was a lot like her playing many instruments, writing music/lyrics for self & others, quiet/withdrawn from all the hoopla, style/grace and crosses over many styles of music, folk/folkrock/jazz/blues/african, etc etc etc, Prince admired her & I think he sampled her...yes Joni jiving across the stage w/ cane & all ...gotta love her! she has actually had many severe medical issues thru out her life...yep I have quoted many Joni lyrics over the years and to this day!
