    That smaller seal goes into a 4" stub shaft that's removable. Same clip on both ends. Sometimes it comes out with the CV axle. The miracle tool to re install that seal is a jack handle and you can use a press

    You can do the whole process only removing the strut assembly bolts. And dropping the wheel down. Don't mess removing your end link and ball joint. That usually entails having to get an alignment afterwards

    Should always clean the grit and grime off around the seal area before pulling the shaft out. Brake clean and a rag followed by compressed air.

      Yes this is great advice and something we typically do when making any type of auto repair.

    I have a 2007 saturn ion-2 2.2 and i cannot remove the inner seal/sleeve part. Yours seem to have come off easily. Or did you edit out the hassle? Lol. Any tips?
    Thanks!

      No we didn't edit out the hassle like the guys selling auto parts...lol We usually include that stuff in our videos so you can see how to get yourself out of a jamb. We currently do not have an auto repair video on that particular vehicle. With that said we can usually remove an axle seal with a seal puller tool, they can be stubborn sometimes.

    Hey... I'm trying to diagnose my issue and am wondering if this could be the culprit. Do you have any vids of the type of noise it makes while driving, or with the car in the air and you turn the axles by hand in neutral? I initially thought I had a brake dust shield or something like that making the noise by contacting my brake rotors since the noise was constant regardless if the car was running, in neutral, or even shut off while driving down the highway. Also tried applying brakes hard to see if it would go away but it's constant no matter what. Nothing is broken or torn on the boots either so I'm kind of stumped. I'd say it's definitely a bearing, but which one where? Looking for help so I can tear it apart and replace the proper part; however, a mechanic friend told me that it could be a transmission bearing which is near impossible to change = new transmission even though the tranny itself is fine. Hope you see this soon... I've been searching for answers all day. Thanks

      What type of noise is it? Thumping, scraping, squeaking or grinding?

    • @TheKnightWolfen
      @TheKnightWolfen 2 роки тому

      @@HomeOwnerRepair Squealing while driving, like a rock stuck in a brake shield/rotor type of thing... but the vid I linked has a kind of grinding by turning the wheel assembly by hand, key off and in neutral

    Car should be running when fluid is checked???

    • @gunnarjohnson7515
      @gunnarjohnson7515 Рік тому

      In transmissions typically yes, all cars are different and you should look up the fluid level checking procedure before checking so you don’t overfill or otherwise butcher the level

      It should state on the transmission dipstick or in the owner's manual for the proper procedure.

    I changed the seal twice. Still leaking. Maybe three times the charm. 🤬
