How To Switch The Language in After Effects 2022 (Windows)
Unfortunately, you have to commit to a language when you install After Effects. There is still no official way to switch the language for the user interface.
With a little trick, you can force After Effects to boot up in another language.
In Windows Explorer go to C - Program Files - Adobe - After Effects 2022 - Support Files - AMT
Here we want to change a little variable in the file 'application.xml'.
It's important to run the editor you use as an admin for this to work.
When you have the file opened search for 'Data key=installedLanguages - en_US
This 'en_US' will control the interface language. In my demo here I want to change the interface to german, so I change this setting to 'de_DE' and save the file.
When I now start After Effects, everything will be in german!
You could also do this in the 'dictionaries' folder. However, After Effects will link to the originally installed language, so when you change something there you could mess up everything and never find your way back again.
In the application.xml file, you just get what you see. The language set here is the language After Effects will present the interface to you.

Huge lifesaver! My OS is in German so whenever an AE tutorial told me to use a specific effect, I had to guess how the heck they translated it go German. No it's finally in English. Thank you :)

i found out today that if you open a file that's been made with the program on a different language... you can get some expression errors because effects have different names, so this was extremely helpful! danke dir : D

Thanks helped a lot. dont wanna change language thr creative cloud app it force you reinstall the app but in other hand it shows you that you have installed en language - nonsens - they should just add change language option without reinstalling

I'm assuming only system menus & effects change but not necessarily plugins & extensions. Also some languages are not fully translated afaik.

Hallo, danke dir für den Ratschlag. Ich kann aber leider das Problem noch nicht beheben, den application file lässt sich mit Editor öffnen, aber nicht als administrator, ich kann nur auf den file recht klicken und das mit editor öffnen aber natürlich öffnet sich ein App nicht als admin. Als administrator muss ich den editor in Suchfeld suchen und als Admin öffnen dann aber kann ich den App file damit nicht öffnen, Hast du vielleicht einen Vorschlag für mich was ich nun machen kann? For me it say's "de_DE,en_GB" in that line of the code. What does that mean? xD It launches in german btw so i guess it defaults to the the first entry.
60$ (or more) per month and Adobe can't be bothered to give you a simple "choose your language" upon installation (you can set a defeault in the CC application but even that doesn't work all the time) or give a simple setting within the program itself. It's just a line of code and the language pack is already installed...like come on?!

Well, as I always respond ...I don't work for Adobe, I'm not affiliated with Adobe in any way. I just happen to use the tools like everybody else. That being said, I agree that switching languages should be much easier.

Thanks for the tut, unfortunately it didn't work in my case. I need Czech language (cs_CZ). All CC apps are in Czech EXCEPT After Effects and Premiere Pro which are in English, for some odd reason. When i looked into the application.xml file, the string under "InstalledLanguages" contained code for both Czech and English languages (cs_CZ,en_US), but the app GUI was in English. So i removed the en_US and left only cs_CZ there, but the app is still in English. Very odd, stubborn program.

As seen here 3:00 it doesn't download all dictionaries per default only the most common ones. You have to install it in your language first so it pulls the right dictionary. Then you can switch with the xml file

You'd have to install turkish initially (if available) to download the language files. It's not a default language.

@@videomarknet Hallo und Danke für die schnelle Rückmeldung! Ich hab's mit dem normalen Editor und Dreamweaver versucht. Ich habe auch versucht die Berechtigung beim File selber anzupassen. Ich hab's auch mal mit der Methode von der Du abrätst versucht. Das funktioniert zwar, aber viele Effekt-Preset-Namen sind dann immer noch auf Deutsch.

Die Übersetzungen ins Deutsche sind manchmal extrem weit weg von den Englischen ausdrücken und Tutorials manchmal unnötig schwer nachzuvollziehen. Grüsse aus der Schweiz.
