And Kainé looks weird tbh. Her original model had sharper features and made her look more "rough" which complimented her character very well :/
I think it has a lot to do with the way the video was rendered. Even the black screens in the new trailer look more greyish, whereas the original is darker overall.
With regard to Kaine's 'new' face shape. It's to make her look more like A2 to tie into the fact that her clone mind was taken from 'a girl who liked to pick flowers with her Grandmother'.
the original was trying to look conform to anime face shapes (daddy nier looks out of place in this context) given this version of the game is after automata, automata set the standards of how anime face proportions would look like in 3D, while still looking somewhat realistic. as added bonus, because the faces in this version dont look like anime, their faces can do more expressions. example: you can visually see how pissed kaine looks now.
I can't help but feel like when these dark, gritty games get remade/remastered, it's always the lighting that I feel like it's ruined in the process. The textures look great, but it you compare the lighting effects of the original to the new, it feels like all the characters are under artificial lights and not in a world of twilight. Incidentally, I feel the exact same way about the GameCube version of LoZ Twilight Princess and its Wii/Wii U counterparts. I really loved the look of the environments in those games and now... It feels too bland. (Ex. 2:06 look at how the light hits the dancers and the environment and tell me the right doesn't look more interesting than the left)
I was expecting the right side to be the remaster because the blacks in the background at the beginning was actually black. Now we got grey which is weird.
Yeah I was struggling then and is it just me but does the left side just look more blander than the right? I don't know but my eye was just drawn to the right as far more visually exciting.
It’s strange how a black screen appears light grey in the nier replicant footage. Seems to me the video settings were fucked up on the left, low contrast high brightness
@tom gu nier is def not a shounen anything lol. Appearance aside the personality is what matters. Oversaturation of teens or sad dads should mean nothing

I have to say, even if the remaster is more advanced and will certainely run at a much better framerate, I prefer the art direction of the original. I just wanted the base game with minor changes and 60 FPS...
automata player plays the original prequel: YOU CAN'T SHOOT MAGIC WHILE ATTACKING? YOU NEED TO STAND STILL TO SHOOT MAGIC ATTACKS? WHY IS THE CHARACTER'S RUNNING SO STIFF? NO ACCELERATION? WHERE'S THE Z-TARGETING OPTION ON NORMAL? (the lock-on option) WHY IS THE DODGE BUTTON IN AN AKWARD POSITION? I've seen some gameplay of the OG nier, and these are the problems. it's gonna suck if you cannot enjoy the story when you need to fight the controls. having picked the game up today, glad it plays a lot like automata.
Eh, I straight up ignored the original release of Nier because I didn't like the look of the father. Felt his character model looked kinda crummy and I didn't want to play as him through the whole game. So this is a much welcome remaster.
@@sanictheedgehog Actually having started this series with NieR Automata I have to say that the older bloke is far more appealing to me as an MC than some rather bland bishonen character. Same here. I heard about how great game it was but when I found out about this and it's technical experience it threw me off. I would not like running around with a character i'm not comfortable with

Ikr. Kaine’s face seems to have some more emotion in the original. While some people don’t like the way her eyes pop out, I think it gives it her design some uniqueness and charm and more human-like even though it might be strange looking

side by side I think the Replicant remake looks better technically but at the same time I feel like some aestheticvs got lost in translation. Like yes, technically it looks better, the lighting is beter and obviously the mechanics are a million times better. That being said, th color and lighting look completley different and they havea completley different feel. That and all of the cahracters look more conventionally pretty whereas everyone in the original game had a weird look to them; and I wouldnt hold that to the fault of the modlers, but rather a stylistic choice. But above all else.... I miss Father Nier.
Am I the only one that feels like aspects of the original look better? A few stylised things (like the duller look of the dark lances and the big lizard shades cross eye) and the lighting looks a better in places, even if it's not *technically* better. Worthy trade-off regardless - I've been playing the remaster the past few days and most of the environmental stuff and all of the characters look soooo much better. So happy to be reliving this game again after all these years.
I love the new graphics and looks for the characters but still love the older looks on the older graphics shame I can't have both xD unless I have the original game which i do :)
:c no se, extraño el temazo original de _The Shadowlord_ con ese bellisimo organo con tonos graves y a papa Nier. Aun así, el opening con unos buenos spoilers esta genial

I think it has to do with the lighting systems they are using, I'm assuming they are using some sort of global illumination which makes some scenes seem alot more natural but sacrifices some of the artistic integrity of some of the scenes
The "original" was the XBox 360 version in Japan but was released as both Xbox 360 and PS3 world wide, while the remake is based on the Japanese PS3 version

As someone not looking at this with out nostalgia glasses the old one looks, just not good. It seems to have suffered the fate of any PS3 game imo, I also never played the OG but every comparison I've seen and already having put like 50 hours in replicant here I can say I'd likely still prefer the new one. The old version seems clunky af gameplay wise as well. What I don't get are the age differences of the MCs between new and old. O_O That's trippy.
context: the "Father" was the main character for Nier gestalt in the JP's Xbox 360 version and for US and EU, they had this character for all the versions. apparently it's to appeal to a more edgier audience. so the "Brother" was exclusive to the JP audience. until this version, where it was consistently Brother nier for the international release.
The entire environment and feel of the game, and characters, have completely changed. While I'm glad I got the replicant version, this makes me want to play the original as well.

I think it has a lot to do with the way the video was rendered. Even the black screens in the new trailer look more greyish, whereas the original is darker overall.
With regard to Kaine's 'new' face shape. It's to make her look more like A2 to tie into the fact that her clone mind was taken from 'a girl who liked to pick flowers with her Grandmother'.
the old kaine look like gothic lmao..honestly i like this new vers kaine
I swear y'all haven't even played the game read how she was described in route B
@@carpetfluff35 no its closer to the concept design
Now that I see it side by side the remake is a bit too clean
So I'm not the only one..
Yeah. Everyone looks like a Barbie doll. Automata gets a pass because everyone’s an android with supernatural powers. Not Gestalt.
@@haihuynh8772bro people are clean in gestalt the graphics are just bad the world isnt in the best state but they can still bathe and shit lmao
@@milk-el8vq Cool, this isn’t about people’s hygiene.
"Why the long face?" - Everyone in the original
there are certain elements and setpieces i like more from the original but overall, the changes are positive.
Love the new versions of them don't look so buggy eyed.
the original was trying to look conform to anime face shapes (daddy nier looks out of place in this context)
given this version of the game is after automata, automata set the standards of how anime face proportions would look like in 3D, while still looking somewhat realistic.
as added bonus, because the faces in this version dont look like anime, their faces can do more expressions.
example: you can visually see how pissed kaine looks now.
best game wich really got a new input in my life
I can't help but feel like when these dark, gritty games get remade/remastered, it's always the lighting that I feel like it's ruined in the process.
Why does weiss look way more detailed in the ps3 version?
I was expecting the right side to be the remaster because the blacks in the background at the beginning was actually black. Now we got grey which is weird.
I actually got a little confused at the beginning too 😂
Yeah I was struggling then and is it just me but does the left side just look more blander than the right? I don't know but my eye was just drawn to the right as far more visually exciting.
0:44 for some reason I prefer the old version for this shot
Ky Kiske and Sol Badguy side by side
It’s strange how a black screen appears light grey in the nier replicant footage. Seems to me the video settings were fucked up on the left, low contrast high brightness
Ah, spoilery like the original! NieR is back!
Kaine in remake looks like Zero (Drakengard 3) that's cool
To be able to copy down to the slightest detail every frame still astounds me with remakes
Incredible Work 👍
Damn son! Kaine is wild as fuck I like it.
*I’m glad that they decided to go with NieR Replicant’s version of the story with the protagonist being an older brother.
Same story
@tom gu nier is def not a shounen anything lol. Appearance aside the personality is what matters. Oversaturation of teens or sad dads should mean nothing
@tom gu because kaine and nier in a sequel novel are implied to have had feelings for each other or at least kaine did by the end as the book is from her perspective, spoilers for ending c right here why else would he literally erase himself from history to save a girl he's been traveling with over raising his daughter?
@@soularth Because it could be the morally right thing to do?
@@insertname7325 is it the morally right thing to sacrifice your entire existence and the memories of your friends, thereby also leaving your very own daughter who can't live alone by herself without any family, just to save someone that you travelled with for some time from something which was inevitably going to happen?
I have to say, even if the remaster is more advanced and will certainely run at a much better framerate, I prefer the art direction of the original. I just wanted the base game with minor changes and 60 FPS...
automata player plays the original prequel:
YOU CAN'T SHOOT MAGIC WHILE ATTACKING?
YOU NEED TO STAND STILL TO SHOOT MAGIC ATTACKS?
WHY IS THE CHARACTER'S RUNNING SO STIFF? NO ACCELERATION?
WHERE'S THE Z-TARGETING OPTION ON NORMAL? (the lock-on option)
WHY IS THE DODGE BUTTON IN AN AKWARD POSITION?
I admittedly never even knew this game existed when it first came out and I regret it because the dad seems a lot more cooler to me coming from Japan than the cookie cutter pretty boys they usually have.
@Caio Coelho And yet you cared enough to reply to me.
Same here. I heard about how great game it was but when I found out about this and it's technical experience it threw me off. I would not like running around with a character i'm not comfortable with
man i knew they made kaine look more like 2b her chin and nose
some characters are looking better in their old version. Looking at Emil who looks in dat scene so much darker and better than this shiny new one. On the other hand you can see a lot of good new things. I will love this game for sure but I rlly think the old face with the less animeish nose style + the darker theme is a bit better for some characters. Nvm Bought it allready :D
I actually dig original graphics more. Like, sure, there is a lot of changes for the better but they also made everything plastic clean, whereas original had a lot more texture, on Emil's head for instance. Kaine's face seemed more expressive in original as well.
Ikr. Kaine’s face seems to have some more emotion in the original. While some people don’t like the way her eyes pop out, I think it gives it her design some uniqueness and charm and more human-like even though it might be strange looking
It looks like the game lost alot of its black in the transition, but it's probably just the recording.
Now I'm just wondering, why did they change Kaine's eyecolor from blue to brown?
The same reason the tower/big ben/empire state building differ between game versions. Localization
@@andersonrayregalia8378 its Yoka Taro we are talking about here.
If he changed the eye color, it likely has nothing to do with localization.
@@andersonrayregalia8378 They're blue in the original Japanese version of the game, same with the brown eyes in the remake. You don't seem to know what localization is.
@@Schneeregen_ Oooo, did I piss you off? I'm sorry but my rational conjecture doesnt care about your feeling and not just mine but most
@@andersonrayregalia8378 No, I'm just saying that if something wasn't changed between regional versions of a game then it is not localization, and that you don't seem to know what that word means.
did ya hear that NieR Gestalt is now compatable with the One/Series model Xboxes?
yep, I already made a video comparing a cutscene between Gestalt and Replicant ver.1.22...
side by side I think the Replicant remake looks better technically but at the same time I feel like some aestheticvs got lost in translation.
It looks happier.
Also the gameplay is much cleaner lol
I thought that hansel and gretel looked better in the original. The shadowlords room too
I love the new graphics and looks for the characters but still love the older looks on the older graphics shame I can't have both xD unless I have the original game which i do :)

is it me or some scenes look way better on the old version?
I think it has to do with the lighting systems they are using, I'm assuming they are using some sort of global illumination which makes some scenes seem alot more natural but sacrifices some of the artistic integrity of some of the scenes
@@MemeticVirus I noticed some of the scenes in the new version are missing some of the affects in the old opening
Lucena woke must of woke up and lost falchion
The characters in the original version looks like they come from the xbox360 spider man 3 game for some reason
The "original" was the XBox 360 version in Japan but was released as both Xbox 360 and PS3 world wide, while the remake is based on the Japanese PS3 version
Notice that the Nier Replicant opening takes place a hundred years ahead Gestalt (0:25). From what I heard they're both "cannon", so I assume that detail is intentional?
Yes, Yoko-san once explained it. It makes no sense that it happens on the same timeline because the prologue then makes no sense but it is a thing.
And in the Prologue Gestalt the year is 2049 while Replicant the year is 2053
Colors and tone looks better in the original to me
Christ the difference is uncanny
Better? Different.
huh? 1300 changed to 1400 years in future?
they pretty much remade the game theyre just being too humble about it
Qué temazo...pinta bien la acción.
2:43 my god kaine looks really bad at the old one
The golden textures are better in the old version lol
I prefer the remake one, well aside from i never played gestalt version😂, i found it a little ridicilous if the relationship is between father and daughter, brother and sister is more make sense for me
As someone not looking at this with out nostalgia glasses the old one looks, just not good.
O_O That's trippy.
context: the "Father" was the main character for Nier gestalt in the JP's Xbox 360 version
and for US and EU, they had this character for all the versions.
apparently it's to appeal to a more edgier audience.
so the "Brother" was exclusive to the JP audience.
until this version, where it was consistently Brother nier for the international release.
Wow.. ^ ^
The entire environment and feel of the game, and characters, have completely changed. While I'm glad I got the replicant version, this makes me want to play the original as well.
i stand with gestalt. i couldnt finish replicant.
"This game is not a remake or a remaster, just an enhanced version"
Actually I like the original better haha ah miss the old day
Why did they have to go and change the music, voice acting, and models so much? Original Kaine looks like she will be me up for looking at her the wrong way. Nu-Kaine looks like an anime doll and doesn't sound so angry.
I like both
Damn the left is souless, manly Nier was best Nier.
But who pulled off the look better as the main protagonist? :3
Brother Nier all the way
Papa Nier is better imo, I also prefer his line delivery

I prefer dad Nier. He fits the tone better.
