Using Bluetooth on a 2010 C Class C300 Mercedes Benz with Media Screen

  • Not only is this confounding, but dangerous. As you drive, and want to dial out you have to use the dash's poorly placed tele-pad panel (the dial panel is too low and too far to the right from the driver's position) and use the same hand to use the poorly placed steering wheel controls for the volume, mute, phone and push to talk buttons that may not work as they should based on what package your car comes with. So Mercedes Bluetooth Sytem replaces dialing using one device (your handheld) with like 3 different ways to dial out (Voice dial seemingly not being one of them) that can be dangerous and confusing. This Bluetooth System works best when receiving calls as the media screen displays the number ID of the caller. This is my gfriends car.
On my BMW 3 Series the Bluetooth operates on only 2 buttons placed on the driver's left side on the steering wheel. BMW Bluetooth includes voice dial, redial, push to talk, but does not display the number ID on the radio interface.
The purpose of this video was to compare the 2 Bluetooth systems and to show how less is more and keeping it simple is safer, better and procures a cleaner driving habit.

We were told at the Dealers the Command Package is ONLY available on 2010 models with Navigation. Had we known then that the Bluetooth is pretty much 90% more functional with the Command/Navigation Package we would have opted for it. Sucks that drivers without Nav must go thru the myriad of buttons to make a phone call.
The silver console input wheel proximal to the cup holders can also enter in the phone numbers which is slightly better than looking at a lot of tiny buttons on a dark keypad.

Thanks. The car was brand new when we first used the bluetooth so we didn't even know it was storing numbers until recently. I just assumed it would work like on my BMW where you dial out using your voice or the steering wheel buttons. Little did we know you can dial out every which way but the steering wheel buttons or your voice. Another BIG flaw is when you turn the radio or car off and the bluetooth un-pairs from your phone it also ends the call even if you are still talking. :-(

Nope. No Navi. Navigation is in the Command Package option and it unlocks all the proper bluetooth functions like voice dial and steering wheel buttons. Had we known that, we would have opted for a Navi car but the 2010 Benzs are very difficult to get the options you want on the color scheme you want. Adding Navi to this color scheme would have had us waiting until Christmas-2009 for one to come off the boat.

lol. True this was shot in 2009 the week we picked the car up and honestly in 3 years I never got used to the Bluetooth phone keypad in that car

    (2) will unceremoniously cut you off with intermittent unintended link down interruption. I decided to use my Nokia N95 3G phone instead which stores the paired connectivity very well. In fact it activates and link with the car's blue tooth within 7 seconds from the time the car's engine is started. I can't believe MB is still using the traditional key crank ignition when most luxury cars are now using keyless start. You can enhance your blue tooth connectivity by doing a mod with a Nav system

When you start up the car (last position before the engine actualy starts to run) you can just go right and let go. You don't have to keep your hand until it starts.

It doesn't matter, because in the end, you're riding around in a Kia, and he's riding around in a Mercedes-Benz... xD

Haha Lady Gaga in the background, nice. It's a great car, just got it yesterday. Anywho, what I do is just dial it from your contact list on your cell phone, it's much easier. As long as the bluetooth is connected to your phone, it takes only a couple of seconds.

You can use the central controller to input the numbers then press the contoller and it will dial the number also if its a number you've dailed before you can just press the call button a couple of times and the most recent numbers will pop up then use the contoller to go to the correct one then press the controller, hope this helps you stay safe.

Why tempt us with steering wheel buttons that have absolutely no function? It creates some confusion when you have like 4 or 5 ways and hundreds of little buttons to call out yet BMW manages to do this with only two steering wheel buttons (albeit my car has the voice command to supplement the two buttons).
Still The C Class 2010 is very luxurious and a nice car. It is priced way better than the 2010 BMW 3 series. Also the Benz dealers tend to treat you much nicer than at BMW. But I love my BMW!

    (1) While MB is known for a lot of good things, don't get me wrong - you have a nice car but the blue tooth function and the use of it is too cumbersome and dangerous. Your BB phone also does not help at all. I drive an Infiniti FX35 and it only had 2 buttons on the steering wheel to use when making the call with the help of voice recognition functionality. I have the same exact model of BB phone that I used to pair with my car. Problem is the BB takes time to validate the connection and

@dubdude71 I've seen Merc's Navi and it is a joke that they want you to pay for P2 to get that. Like I said when the lease ends this year she is getting an 2013 Audi Q5 or 2013 BMW 535xi. Sad to say she loves M.Benz but they make some crappy ass cars! Also the C Class has so much drama that when the warranty ends it will be gone! I won't wish this P.O.S car on my worse enemy not even you dubdude71. Man up and get a real car, get rid of your Benz and get a BMW 335i!

  • @olaf2046

@dubdude71 This is the worse car ever made. It is the missus' car. No real man would drive a Benz when BMW and even, sad to say, Audi makes better cars! Not even 15,000k on the odo and we've had 5 flat tires, a failed transmission transfer case that had to be replace (so it needed a new transmission), fail Ignition block so it needed the entire ignition and steering column replaced! Also Benz want like $400+ for oil change inspections! WTF!? Not again! She's getting an Audi next!
