- I had an issue one morning that the car did want to start and there was no crank, to find out it is the ESL issue and this video is to show you how to start to move it or get it to the shop to get it fixed.
I had a same problem and tried it and did work,and what I did also was that I turned off and started again and worked and you saved me tons of money and lots of time that if I had to go to dealer and dropped the car and God knows how long I have to wait for car to fix and thank you mercedess Benz dealers that I called 10 times to 3-4 dealers around me and non of them picked up my call and encouraged me to do something myself and did work.thank you with your good info and video and thanks to mercedes dealer that are busy drinking coffee and not picking up my calls and asking to leave the voice that they are getting back in day or two if they finished their coffee.🙏👍👍👍

I had to change the whole switch which is brain of the car(where you insert your car key to start) and costed me $2500 and no one else can do it because they have to program it otherwise your car alarm or other electrical may not works. Also dealer changed it and I think they changed it with used or refurbished part which they charged me for new part and happened the same thing in less than week and asked me to pay another $2500 to fix it again and they trying to tell me it is something else and I asked them to give me a trouble shoot report (scan report)which first they did not want to give me and I told them since dealer charged me 3 hours label at $195 per hour (which takes two seconds to do)then I should get it and when I got it, I review the report and it was saying in every section from each door from dash from every piece of electronic that system (mudual starter brain)has a poor signal or wrong signal. I called mercedes head office and after I under line the report and send it to them I got the call from mercedess dealer (Thornhill mercedess Yong and steels Ave toronto) and all of the son they want to do it for free. Because I cut them stealing from me and God knows how maney other poor mercedess owners had to go through this and pay for unrelated issue. So they had to change what they did changed it before and car is fine now.

Hi Habibi 😂, it worked for me like a charm. My mechanic said to take it to dealership, could be an Ignition switch . I called the dealer and it was $1250 for swit hours and $750 for starter motor.
Tomorrow, I am going to dealer and will just buy the fuse block.

@MrVampiro82 No, I cut it and press the button to start the cat, it worked temporarily, do it once or get someone to take out and re-program ESL . Else you have to replace starter motor, if you do it too many times

in my experience, manual c300 2008 the first time it happened, i tried jump starting for like half an hour then twisting the wheel and it worked
the second time i tried twisting the wheel, jump start, pop start, removing the cover of the relay and removing and putting the 7.5 thingy back into the fuse box like this video and it didn’t work… our mechanic said to “just wait and keep trying”-had to get it towed back home and the next morning, it worked again after a jump start.
both times it would just say “take the key out of the ignition” with no other lights on and it wouldn’t crank.
i really don’t know what the issue is :/ i just had to let it rest

It went for service already and we changed the pulleys and belt.
What was the actual problem with the vehicle? Did it need a new starter motor?

@@onepeopleunited-lg7rxit’s your esl, you’d need to buy and esl emulator and have it programmed by a locksmith, way cheaper than going to a dealership. Sorry I’m barley seeing this comment now, wish I could’ve helped earlier.
You can also use a wire if you don't feel comfortable with the relay.
Connect the top and bottom slots.

This is happening to the models that use that system from around those years, EVERYONE report to NHTSA and to MBUSA, they have to fix this for free or a CLASS action will cost them more

I had the same issues. I almost gave my car away. My friend fixed it for me. It's an esl issue. He had to removed the steering assembly to replace a part.

NOTE: 1. When you put key and turn to position 2, the lights on the dash are supposed to turn on, if not, the the key is the problem.
2. As soon as you put the key in, you can hear the ESL motor under the steering column turn to the unlock position and hear it turn again when you remove the key to lock the steering, it is very obvious.

It’s the ignition module in dash that you insert the key into happened to mine it’s $2100 to fix and it’s a dealer fix only
Mine was not, i just had a key shop replace my esl with an emulator and its working fine now. $450 fix.

9/10 you have to remove your ignition switch and have it connect to an emulator to have it "coded" his video is how to get your car started to get it to shop or somewhere safe if it's not your home parked etc.
Not shorting your car out and going to a mechanic and replacing your ESL.

I have a c350 2013, i juste remove the fuse 7.5 amp and put it back and worked. What dose it need to be replaced?
This is a temp solution to get the vehicle to start and take it to the nearest shop for repair, that would only work if the steering wheel is not locked. The ESL needs to be replaced with a new one or you can remove it and program an emulator.

The steering wheel lock , if the steering wheel is locked it won’t start
I believe this only works if your ESL fails in the unlocked position.

Yes, it happened to me 2 years ago. It is a pain in the ass to repair and expensive.
I did this and the car started, but when I turned off the ignition and tried to start it again, the problem returned again.

The EIS emulator is a device that replaces the mercedes ESL for half the price and you don’t have to worry about being in the that situation again.
Find someone in your area that would do the job and program it for you.

HELP. Key will not turn at all anyway to bypass the ESL without spending 1000$ the negative and positive on battery touched and now it will not start the steering wheeel is locked

You’re risking to lock the steering while driving or while its parked. This is only temporary fix at your own risk to move the vehicle to the nearest shop.

You did not address if the ESL has failed in the lock position, yes you "might" be able to start the car, but you cannot drive it as the steering wheel is locked.

There is no way that you can unlock the steering, unless you take it to the shop and they take the ESL out

Hi, you have to either replace the electronic steering lock ESL, or have somebody install an emulator instead of the ESL to get the car to work properly again.

@Joby Fluorine I think EIS is good, it recognizes key. I do not hear the ESL solenoid. Dash does not light up either. So agree, ESL.
@Joby Fluorine yes, im not a mechanic but i know that my problem was the esl and i took it out and replaced it with an emulator that works just as fine.
The real fix is either you replace the ESL or take it to some one with can put an emulator instead of the ESL and program it.

Pop shifter cover off and there is a yellow button in there. Push down on yellow button and shifter will be free
Yes, you need to push down the yellow button (with a pen) and move to D or R while holding down... Yellow button under the leather shifter cover, just pull up or use yr emergency key (inside yr remote key) as a lever to lift the leather our
