The Unknown Eater was amazed at how low the prices were at the iconic Chicken Pie Shop in the Hillcrest neighborhood in San Diego. This location was on 5th and Robinson--since 1938. Chicken pie dinner included mash potatoes, vegetables, cole slaw and dessert-all for $2.65-a bargain in any era. He said it wasn’t great, but he would return. His review may have been a little off considering it’s still popular in its astonishing 84th year. Can’t get them all right Mr. Eater. Congratulations Chicken Pie Shop, and please disregard the line about needing more pepper.
Im glad to hear it didn’t taste good back then too. Its definitely not extremely tasty but I love their deserts.
I wish they could ship this to Hawaii packed in dry ice like Omaha Steaks. I grew up on the chicken pie. Born and raised in San Diego. I’m glad it’s still around.
I remember shopping at the thrift shop next door on Tuesdays then eating at the Hillcrest location with my mom. Good times.
You see - they're all respectful to each other and were having conversations and not looking down at their phones.
$2.65 😥
I love this place🤗❤
been eating since i was five years old
Awesome-remember this place with such affection! Where is the 2022 version?
It's on El Cajon next to the big water tower.
Didn't they move that hillcrest location over to Oregon str later in North park?
My mom would bring them home frozen by the dozen.
