This is a great introduction to Finestra and the many actions that evolve from it. I especially appreciate the demonstration of why the scambiar (exchange) and rompere (beat) actions are more optimal from each side. Other students may wish to know the spear material elaborates on this point.

I am loving the dives into the nitty gritty of each posture and the textual reading in each of these videos.
Now onto the actual important stuff. Posta di Finestra is a mystery, full of secrets. Does the fair maiden gaze through the window with a heart of lust to entice or hate to threaten? No one knows. With the point high and forward, the groin area is completely exposed. This may also be a means of enticing or repelling an opponent.
However, the dualistic balance does not stop here, Posta di Finestra also has a balance of transitions. The strength of one is the weakness of the other and so on. It is the yin and yang of longsword. The eight trigrams of Fiore. This balance is why Thanos loves Posta di Finestra so much.
With all of this considered the official coolness rating of this Posta is: 8=8
Perfectly balanced , as all things should be.

I totally agree with the previous comment, even though I study German Longsword. Thank you again for your video. Very interesting.

Love this series. Also the beginning always looks like a character selection screen, if you just bobbed up and down on your knees just a bit more it'd be perfect!

Loving this series of videos. As an aside, I’d be interested to see how using a “long” longsword like the Sigi King affects your interpretations of the Fiore plays. The swords shown in the Fiore manuscript seem to be shorter - Albion Liechtenauer size, as a guideline. I have a Sigi King and an Albion Liechtenauer and I love them both. I’m finding the Sigi to be a more natural fit for later longsword systems like Marozzo, with its beats and double cuts.

Fiore tells us that Porta di Ferro is good with shorter swords, while porta di ferro mezzana is better with longer. The sword length affects the plays and the choice, Fiore himself knew it and had experience with it. The sword honestly doesn’t affects my practice “too much”, of course shorter blade act faster, longer have more reach. Both are good, and were good, the important is to being aware of pros and cons of both.
I don’t find that my interpretation is affected, I use shorter swords too! So I know the differences. Plus I’m 190 cms tall, and of course this balances things a little more.

Regarding errors by Novati, you can reach out to Brian Stokes of Schola San Marco in the USA. He has physically handled the Pissani Dossi manuscript and took high resolution scans. However, the PD family has blocked distribution and publication of the scans. He can definitely answer about Novati making errors in his images. Brian has previously indicated he found no such errors.
