Congratulations on the video, I understand that POSTA DI DONNA allows you to defend and also move the sword by turning the waist, placing the sword forward in a devastating attack. This stance allows you to throw the sword with force. Parabéns pelo vídeo, entendo que POSTA DI DONNA permite defender e também movimentar a espada girando a cintura, colocando a espada para frente em um ataque devastador. Essa postura permite que você lance a espada com força.
Thank you a lot for the videos! I've recently signed up to a fencing school, and your videos are very helpful to deepen understanding of exercises we go through :)
I've just started training after years of occasionally hanging around in HEMA discussions and reading. I've been watching lots of entry level videos that try to explain "guards" but this is the best one I've seen by far. Imagining it as a single frame of an animation, or a single moment that will occur in a wide set of possible movements was very clear. Referring back to the manuscripts and pointing out where this concept was recorded first was also great. Thanks for all the videos and advice; it's been so helpful. (Finally, thanks for your Montante videos, as that is the sword I am working toward.)
This is well explained, and I feel it's a really important concept to understand to make progress. What is cool about it is that this concept of guards is not limited to Fiore or 1.33, it works for other systems too.
Hmm, postas/guards are essentially positions we move through while delivering blows with our swords. This is a major part of historical fencing movement 😃 Thanks for explaining this so well, Fede!
@FedericoMalagutti Doing 60-hour back to back shifts at the hospital this entire weekend. The sword drills truly help to decompress in between doing surgeries. 😷
This is very helpful. I’m trying to work on guards and movements so this came out right on time! A request if you don’t mind: can you cover movements around an opponent and retreats? Greetings from Florida!
wtf is that on the left at 2:16??? I can't even put my hand in tha position! I trued but got a ton of strain in my wrist and forearm before I'd rotated my palm even halfway there! Who taught this man how to draw hands?????
Thank you for explaining how to "read" the diagrams! The Poste and guards! It all makes so much more sense now.

You are welcome! I wish you good training!
Looking forward to this! Going to practice the techniques from this video during some downtime at work.
I think this is the most important and foundational video you have made.
