Adding some coriander leaves and red chili flakes whilst grinding the dhal works great too, also add a tad bit of turmeric into the dhal when boiling for color. 😍
Prepare and refrigerate the split peas. Reheat on the day required, . Trust me it saves lots of time. Your roti making day will only be just about one hour.
Very good....Very nice...from a trinidadian and proud us citizen living in Connecticut and new york.... very impressive....love how u list ingredients and amount wit explanation.... ...
you make it look soo simple but it's a lot of work now my children want me to make it every weekend, I think am going to send them to England so you can do that. Thank you for taking the time out of your life to teach me a little something that I pass on to the kids.
Thnk you for showing in a very simpel way of preparing the peas, and the dough and yessssss that is our music the steal band move the hips while cooking yeaah oh yeaaah
Thank you sister for posting, and honouring your Grand-mommy!! She taught you well, and proud that you carry her tradition. Keep working your magic🙏🏾☺️
I have tried so many recipes on here to try and grr eat this right, none as good as yours! I tried this today and I even surprised myself. Really well done and explained - thank you! 🌟
I make this today! Is not the same like you, but for my first time i’m so freaking happy. The tast is freaking amazing, my stomach was happy. Thank you, you are the bom girl. Greating from The Netherlands✨✨✨
Your video for jerk chicken popped up in my recommends and I'm so glad it did....this is my 5th video of you I've watched 2day 🤦 and u r so relaxing to watch and making me sooo hungry!..... Caribbean foods are my favorite! And I'm from NC
Really enjoyed watching this, nice and simple and I’ve always wanted to know how to make it as I love it! There used to be the most gorgeous roti hut shop in Shepherds Bush when I was growing up - didn’t know about this until then. I buy my roti from horizon foods in north London now but it’s good to know that I could have a go if I wanted to.
This first time I tasted Trini curry and dhal roti I was hooked!!! I had met a new friend from Trinidad. She cooked for other people and asked me if I wanted to taste her curry chicken (and/or goat), with roti. The first roti was w/o the Dhal. Trini curry is special. It has it own unique to it. I was not sure if I wanted to try the food (even though I love caribbean food), so I started off with a small order. One bite of her curry chicken and my search was over. She was going to show me how to make the curry and roti. But not long after we met, she wasn't feeling well and went to the hospital. They found cancer in her entire body. They couldn't save her. I've never forgotten her curry. Once I got it, I ate it for BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER and MIDNIGHT SNACK. That was my only food until it was gone. I had not been able to master the roti. I was discouraged trying to copy trini roti and curry. Was just missing something. I can't wait to try this recipe!
Verdict from trying this recipe: My husband loved it (some bias there as he would eat anything I cook😄). The taste was superb, so your seasoning style is perfect, but the shape was a whole different story 😂😂.. certainly not Master Chef quality. I have yet to learn how to be an expert with a rolling pin. But this was my first time watching your video and trying the recipe. You've got a new subscriber❤
Hey. I am interested in making this this week and your steps and very easy and clear. But I don't have a food processor to dry the split peas. What else can I use ?
Yes you can. I wrap it individually in clear wrap and freeze it. I take out one each time and microwave in the clear wrap for about 30 seconds to a minute :)
So I made it with the bread flour and it didn’t rise like yours did it came out thicker like naan bread it was delicious but next time I’ll use all purpose flour.
I’ve tried this several times and keep failing. My dough seems heavy when rolling out dough , it Keeps shrinking, I’ve tried letting it rest longer but that didn’t work so my question is what am I doing wrong ?
All my life being indian my roti never got that round and that fluffy 😂 My roti always end up as some weird shapes , just giving a heads up puri is deep fried what you did is roti
she has definately been watching Trini/guyanese cooking as we dont do it like that in St Lucia. No way. I am a born lucian.....but well done. I did the same copied trini style dhal......

I know right. Its the process that frightens most people, its painstaking.
