    You saved me!!!! My top thread was looping every 5-8 stitches so I knew it was catching on something. Sure enough, I could feel a little knock with my fingernail along the hook tip. Amazing solution❤

    this video genuinely changed my life, after days of fixing up an old machine, I was about to throw in the towel because of this one unfixable problem, come to find that the solution is simple thanks to this video

    Thank you! It wasn't either of the things that you suggested but it did make me look at the plate and on the underside there was a little nub from needle strikes. I dremeled that bit off and that fixed the problem! So many little metal nubs to watch for.

    "The right needle for the right job"; no truer words have been said. I have a Janome 4 needle embroidery machine and started having a "thread shredding and breaking issue". I tried everything, spent hours messing with the bobbin area and looking for nicks, cleaning, oiling. I finally figured it out and solved my problem. Wrong needle. I was embroidering on hats and when I switched from 75/11 needle to 80/12 needle, my problem was solved! Right needle for right job can solve thread shredding and breaking issues. Hope this helps someone else....

    THANK YOU!!! I was embroidering blanket number 11 of 15 for graduates at our church when the thread started constantly shredding. I used this video to diagnose the problem, a burr. I filed it and things worked fine for a couple minutes. Then the machine kept saying I needed to rethread the top thread, but it appeared fine. I used the other video that shows how to fix the little thread spring (it has shredded thread jammed in it) and now it's smooth sailing. If I lived in the UK I'd give Keith a big hug and kiss!!

    After 2 days of sheer frustration, this video saved me from the big house around-the-bend! My bobbin case has damage where the needle has obviously impacted at some stage. New on on order...

    THANK YOU!!! My machine kept shredding my thread so I took it to get serviced and it came back still shredding. I stumbled upon your video and it works!! All I had to do was file a small burr down and it's running like it should. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!

    Super good information. I was ready to take the machine in for repair again! Found a very tiny bur at the end of my thread hook. Filed it away and completed a project without one shred. I am so happy, thank you fir doing this video.

    Thanks Keith. My machine is an industrial sewing machine: ZOJE ZJ0303L. It shreds the thread, as you show but only when I back stitch - and not during normal stitching. Any ideas?

    Very useful. I am researching this for a sewing group. I wonder if that burr on the shuttle race (that holds the bobbin case) hook is caused by needle timing being off? I'd love to know. Many thanks on this excellent video!

    • @keithlordsewing
      @keithlordsewing  2 місяці тому

      That’s a small possibility but if that was the case there would probably be other indications in stitch quality. The burr could be caused by the needle position being set too close to the hook causing the hook to hit the needle constantly, which is an engineer adjustment. Most likely it’s a single occurrence where an event during embroidery or sewing caused the needle to bend when penetrating dense stitching or fabric and was hit by the hook. The event is usually a one off and deburring the hook stops the shredding, if the needle-to-hook clearance is out then a trained and trusted technician is advisable for the correct adjustment.

    Keith, could you do a video showing how to change the needle threader on the brother machine. Xd8550D

      Ginger, I presume you mean the USA model XV8550D. It's the same procedure as the video I created for the V-series:

    This is super helpful! I know this is a bit old but if you're still sorta monitoring this, just wondering what to do if there is a little nick in the bobbin case in the second area you indicated? Do you just need to purchase a new case at that point? Thanks!

    • @keithlordsewing
      @keithlordsewing  3 роки тому

      If it’s not a deep groove then try smoothing it out leaving a gentle curve.

  • @steph6337
    @steph6337 3 роки тому

    I don't have any knicks on the hook, or anywhere in the bobbin case, bobbin tension is good. Upper tension is good. New needle. That spring is in place (I watched your video). I'm ready to just quit. 😔😭 Is there anything else?

    • @keithlordsewing
      @keithlordsewing  3 роки тому +1

      You’ve done the common “home remedies”. Other causes are likely to be adjustments of the needle bar position or timing and require a trained technician.

      I just bought my machine 2nd hand about a month ago. I am now where Steph was 9 months ago. My thread is shredding terribly. I have checked everything according to your videos. Can't find any burrs. Did not have a broken needle. Decided to have a cup of coffee and watch the videos again and starting all over again, making sure I am not missing anything.

    Keith - I have a new problem that I can't find an answer to. My top thread is nesting and snarling beneath my hoop. I've done everything I know to do, changed needles, vacuumed thoroughly, checked bobbin case for burrs, cleaned the thread cutter. HELP!

    • @keithlordsewing
      @keithlordsewing  3 роки тому

      Peggy, check your upper tension, if you have contamination then your top thread will nest. Beyond this you probably need someone with some expertise to investigate. - Keith.
