It might be too thick and it’s causing the tension to go off. ?? ..what do you think? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you so much.

Any special tips for embroidery fleece? Before I embroidery any design I will try join the letter L or I like you suggested but anything else I should use I use water syllable stabilizer on top and thin stabilizer on the bottom I think I got that part right😅
Hi Eve! This is great info. I like this method too b/c it’s foolproof! Sure glad I found you a few years back when I was beginning- your info is always super and spot-on!! Thanks sew much.
An embroidery machine is just a sewing machine with an automatic arm that holds a hoop. You can adjust the tension similarly. The only difference is the way the stitches lie. Take a moment to Google "sewing machine tension" and find a picture of how your thread should look when sewing so that you will have a guide.
hello my brother innovis 750e lcd says turn off and attach the embroidery unit even when the embroidery unit is attached to the machine. can anyone help me. thank you
This is fabulous! I had embroidery tension issues, and this helped me solve them. Combining my knowledge of how to check the tension on an adjustable bobbin (and adjust it), this method for upper tension adjustment is the best I’ve seen! Thanks! As it turns out, the upper embroidery tension settings on my machine are digital, nevertheless, your method still works!
Thank you so much! I have a Brother PE535 and every single time I try sewing it says that I need to re thread the upper thread (even though I did it correctly) then a lot of the bobbin thread gets bunched up and eats my fabric! Do you think this is because I'm at the wrong tension? Thanks!
Hi really enjoyed your video. I was wondering if you could help me with one of my problems. When I embroid a stock design (or any design for that matter), the tension for the first thread will be fine however after I changed the thread it becomes looser and looser until it jams. Do you know what could be causing this or how to fix it. I have had this machine (Brother PE540D) for two years and never got a full design out of it. PLEASE HELP!
It is not easy to troubleshoot just from a description, but there are several things that can cause issues and you'll need to try them one at a time: 1. change to a new needle. 2. Be sure your top thread is threaded correctly. 3. Be sure your bobbin thread is inserted in the right direction! ( #2 & #3 refer to your manual for directions) 4. Be sure your project is hooped correctly. It needs to be taut and have the proper stabilizer. 5. Try a different spool of thread... that should be listed after #1... Try these things and see if it helps.

Hi, I really need help. I just started using my new PE800 Embroidery machine, never used any embroidery machine before. I threaded it correctly however it started to embroider and then thread a lot of thread was tangled under the material and inside machine. I cut thread out, took the silver metal up and made sure all thread was removed but when I put it back together it now won’t embroider. Can you help me please?
Thank u but i always got thread problem on my brother sewing machine XL-4030, sometimes can embroider sometimes not and i dont know which numbers should i use☹
If you still have embroidery issues even after trying the method I show here, then your machine may need maintenance. Use this checklist: does it still mess up after changing the needle? Does it still mess up with a new bobbin? Try again after changing your thread to a new spool. Is it messing up only on one particular design? Look down into the bobbin case, is it dirty? These are just a few things you can check to try to fix what may be wrong before taking it to a shop.
Have you tried the 5 quarter bobbin technique? Mr. Vince J.Arcuri on UA-cam has a tutorial. :). Another technique for the arsenal. Thank you! I love how neat your room looks. Lovely.

Haha! Didn't know about that one. I usually just do whatever tension works, trial and error, now I know that there's supposed to be a good ratio of whatever on the damn thing. Does the tension need to differn depending on the fabric or cloth?
I have a question? I just starting watching your videos. I have a brother PE800 embroidery machine and just a beginner. I am not new to sewing but new to embroidery. I need to know how to adjust the tension for fleece fabric as I make a lot of fleece baby blankets. My tension is factory preset to 4.0 but when I use that a very very minute small amount of bobbin threads show on the top edges of the letter when I embroider the letter I like you suggested. I look on the back and it is about 1/2 bobbin thread and 1/2 top thread showing. I have been trying different samples but still cannot come up with the perfect tension. I am using cutaway stablizer on the bottom and the water soluble topper on top. I am using bobbin thread 60 and embroidery thread 40 on top. What am I doing wrong?
Hi ma'am. Thank you so much for the very good video and I have a question. Do you change the bobbin thread sometimes.? I have been having trouble with my PE-770, I use #90 and #60 in white all the time and sometimes a lot will show at the top, do I need to adjust the tension .. Thank you much.
This was such a good video and explanation. I’m still a bit confused as when I change the tension on my machine, the bobbin thread hardly even shows up on the back despite what setting it’s on 😞
Thank you for your comment and question. If the bobbin thread doesn't show then the top tension is too tight. Lower the number a bit and see if that helps.
The tension is based on your machine. There is no "set" tension. Test it at three, do a stitch out, then try it on 2, then repeat on 4. Whichever stitches the best, go for that. You may have to have yours on 5.
This video was so helpful! I was wondering why my "machine wouldn't work," but after watching your video I figured it out. Now I know how to test my tension... I used the lower case letter l, what I great idea!! :) Thanks so much! ~Simone
Thanks for the video! I love them all. Question about your test fabric, what is it and how have you prepared it for the hoop? Are you using any stabilizers under it?
You need to be sure you are using the proper type of stabilizer and the proper amount of stabilizer for thin fabrics. You also should avoid designs with dense stitching. Unfortunately, without knowing what fabric it is nor what design you are trying to stitch I will have a hard time being more specific. Try using a fusible mesh stabilizer (if you can use heat on that) and see if that helps.
I've had to learn my machine and learn each design. I write down the tension that works best for each part of the design on a note pad if I know I'm going to duplicate it a few times. If the design is really layered then my machine will want me to lower at each level. Makes sense. The design finish changes completely when I do this vs just leaving the tension at one place the whole time. Night and day. It's all about finding those sweet spots sometimes 🤷🏽♀️
Thanks so much! I know you had this on another video...of course I wasn't having problems then.😣 I will run this check as I've cleaned out the bobbin case, etc. already. Thanks again for all your great advice!😉👍🏻
I just got my machine used, they told me it was used 2 times. Looks like it was never used, everything is still wrapped up. I tried to stitch a word and it will not stitch..
I had only theorized that my thread tension was too tight, but this just helped me identify and confirm it. Big help! thanks a lot.

I am using cutaway stablizer on the bottom and the water soluble topper on top. I am using bobbin thread 60 and embroidery thread 40 on top. What am I doing wrong?
Love Your Information You Are Really Good To Give All Information
What was that spray?
That was a can of compressed air for electronics. If you choose to use canned air, be sure it is for electronics and moisture free!
TY Eve, I will be back embroidering as soon as I get everything in order in my house.
Hi, thanks for the video, you've answered my questions regarding tension, greetings from the UK.
Hi ma'am. Thank you so much for the very good video and I have a question. Do you change the bobbin thread sometimes.? I have been having trouble with my PE-770, I use #90 and #60 in white all the time and sometimes a lot will show at the top, do I need to adjust the tension .. Thank you much.
Thanks for this tutorial , I was really getting frustrated with my machine
You are WELCOME! I totally understand!
I have the same machine and I quitting what number you set the top to ?
perfect i will text tonight my info, thank you so much
I really loved this video.....thanks so much!
Thank you so much, solved my issues!
Yaaaas! Thats what I like to hear! Happy Embroidering!
Hi what machine is this please?
Thanks for this will try.
Thank you for the video. Very helpful!
You're welcome my dear!
so i should have my tension at 3?
The tension is based on your machine. There is no "set" tension. Test it at three, do a stitch out, then try it on 2, then repeat on 4. Whichever stitches the best, go for that. You may have to have yours on 5.
Thank you, it's the little things that count.
Where did you get those tweezers?
This video was so helpful! I was wondering why my "machine wouldn't work," but after watching your video I figured it out. Now I know how to test my tension... I used the lower case letter l, what I great idea!! :) Thanks so much!

You're welcome! 🤗 Happy embroidering!
Thanks for the video! I love them all. Question about your test fabric, what is it and how have you prepared it for the hoop? Are you using any stabilizers under it?
Great job thank you so much
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching our video.
Can someone help me, I have a
Embroidery machine that doesn’t want to embroidery in thin tops… does someone know how I can fix that ? ( brother pe800
Good video thanks
Thank you so much! This video was extremely helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
That was great and totally solved my problem, THANK YOU!
Glad it helped! Tension is such a tricky subject, so I am glad you got it resolved.
Really Great Video Thanks
I have a question. Why is there different tension settings? If it screws up on all others they why?
Jen's Life same thing I’m thinking

I just got my machine used, they told me it was used 2 times. Looks like it was never used, everything is still wrapped up. I tried to stitch a word and it will not stitch..
