Holy....I'm only 5 minutes in and I'm already mind-blown. I am a self-taught sewist with a 2nd hand machine, and I literally had no idea that you could remove the bobbin plate. (Hope I wasn't the only one haha). This woman is so knowledgeable and I'm learning so much. Thank you so much for this video. I am subscribing!!
Thanks so much for the positive feed back - it is appreciated! Don't feel alone - you are not the only one that had no idea that the bobbin plate could be removed - it is just that I had the privilege of going on technical training several times, and watching a technician cleaning and servicing machines - so I know how important it is to keep the bobbin area clean. Thanks for subscribing - there are lots more videos coming soon! I had accidentally removed the little fuzzy thing you point out at 4:13. I didn't know where it went to once it was removed. Thank goodness I saved it. I came here to find out how to fix the tension on the bobbin figuring that's why it was so screwy but it was the missing fuzzy thing causing all the problem!! I replaced it and viola! Amazing how such a tiny weird thing can be so critical. Thank you thank you thank you.
Hi, You are so right - that tiny little thing is critical😅 Without it - the thread will just run around all over the place.... So good to hear it is all sorted now though. I was going nuts after my brand new to me (but previously used) brother embroidery machine kept birdnesting every single time I tried to embroider. I hadn’t done one embroidery successfully so I was defeated. After countless videos and trying to adjust the top thread tension, adding more stabilizer, taking away stabilizer, and generally loosing my mind, this video finally resolved my issue! I just needed to clean out all the dust underneath the bobbin holder. If only I had come here in the first place. Thank you!!! You’ve saved my sanity!

Thank you!!! This was what I needed. My bobbin thread was showing on the top and I had no clue what to do. I took a screen shot of the info provided. I was almost in tears trying to figure out this issue. I never even know the bobbin case came out. I’m really new to embroidery and this is my first machine ever so can’t say enough how valuable information like this is for a newbie.

Hello, I am so pleased to hear the video was helpful - and that the machine is working perfectly again😀 The bobbin case with the green paint on the screw is generally used for sewing and embroidery where you will use the recommended thread, which is usually included in the box when you purchase the machine. The tension is preset for the recommended thread at the factory - and the green paint "locks" the tension in for this thread only. However if you are going to be using different thread - other than the recommended one - it is best to use the bobbin case with the adjustable screw (the one without green paint on it), so that you can adjust the tension to suit the thread. You can order these bobbin cases from any Brother dealer. I am busy adding groups for different interests on my Facebook page - so please feel free to go there and LIKE the main page. I was blown away by how helpful this video is. I dont come from a sewing background, but i decided to start with embroidery so i know absolutely nothing. I was running into looping problems, but after checking the top thread and finding nothing amiss, i knew it had to be the bottom. Thanks to this video, i learned about how to maintain the bobbin area AND fix it. Im so thrilled and feel empowered, THANK YOU!

Thanks so much for the very clear bobbin tension instructions. And the explanations really help me understand why this is happening on with my quite expensive machine - which I've put a lot of miles on 😀. It was so frustrating to try to adjust the machine tension and find that nothing I did changed it for the better. Now it looks perfect again!

Great video thanks. My bobbin case started rattling and vibrating whenever it started stitching on a Brother machine I'd had for a few months, the stitching was bunching and tangling straight away. The only slight damage I could find on the bobbin case was a very, very small scratch on the underside. Anyway I changed out the bobbin case for another and it fixed it. It looks like this thing is very sensitive to any slight damage.
Hi, Thanks for the comment. It is important to clean under the bobbin case on a regular basis - to avoid any build up that could make the bobbin case "unsettled" - as in the case of it sitting on top of a fluff build up. Try buffing the small scratch out with a silver or brass cleaning liquid. The bobbin cases aren't usually sensitive - but after a while the screw may need adjusting due to the spring losing tension over time. I hope this is helpful. Hi, Thanks for the reply...yes it is tempting to take it off, and for the machines with no sensors it is not really an issue. However, for machines with sensors, it can be tricky to put it back if you are not careful. I have had many a customer have a problem afterwards, resulting in a trip to the technician to put it back properly.😅 This is why I advise to leave it alone.😊 Kind Regards, Sherine

Very helpful. I had to remove the metal plate when my machine feed dogs kept eating up my knit fabric. It wouldn’t budge. But good to know. I am so used to needing to take whole thing off to clean the machine. No oil huh? I couldn’t find any instructions in my manual to add oil so I didn’t. Again, counter intuitive to someone used to cheaper machines lol.
Hi Rachael, Thanks for the comment. No - no oil is required 😊 Please feel free to Subscribe to my UA-cam channel, there is a new maintenance video coming out later this week again. Also... Glamourgirl I just found out that you can remove the whole bobbin case. I'm self taught too. I've been self taught sewing sewing g for 40 years. Only straight stitches. I have brother sewing machine and couldn't understand how to use all the amazing stitches even when I used the brother manual that came with my machine. Most of the instructions in it are hard to understand and most of the illustrations aren't clear either. At least not for me. My husband looked at the manual too and he couldn't understand them either. We also tried to get the needle threader to thread using the manual and trying to just practice over and over. It was definitely hard to see the illustrations for it .
This was very helpful I have a SE1900 (US) and whenever I clean now and put everything back on the needle plate and cover hit the bobbin case and the machine is unusable. I'm putting the case in properly and tried a new case but unless my plate is on ridiculously loose and slightly lifted it will hit. I took it to a Brother-friendly shop but all they did was tell me the plate was too loose (I left it that way so they could see when it did NOT hit) and when he put it back together it didn't hit. I'm getting really frustrated as every other time I clean this occurs and it's unusable. Any thoughts? I can email a video
Hi Jehna, I am so sorry to hear you are struggling. Please can you email me a video clip to info@sewandcraftstepbystep.com I have a suspicion about what the problem might be - but it will make it easier for me if I can see your video please.😀 Thank you.

I have a Brother machine where the plate is one piece. You say not to remove the back part of the plate, but mine is not two pieces. So to get the bobbin case out I have to removed the whole one-piece plate. I can get to the floor of this section with a brush to pick up the fuzz. I've never caused a problem doing this.
Hi Emma, Yes - it will depend on the model. If you only have one piece, then you will have to remove that one piece. The only reason I discourage people from removing the back piece if there are 2 pieces, is simply because the machines that have 2 pieces generally have sensors underneath the back piece, and if the sensors get moved, then a technician will have to put them back in position before the machine will work. Not all machines have sensors, but for the ones that do, it is a sensitive issue. I hope this clarifies why I give this advice in the video 😀 Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
Hi Launa, Thanks for your comment. When stitching on any type of vinyl - please make sure you have a teflon foot on your machine. It is also often referred to as the "non-stick" foot. This helps the fabric to glide through and not get stuck - which is what will be causing the bunching. Please feel free to join my mailing list via the pop-up form on my website. I will be releasing lots of hints and tips regarding the different sewing machine feet soon. www.sewandcraftstepbystep.com Have a great day. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines Sew and Craft

Hi Sherine Haines, thank you very much for the video. It is very helpful. I am having some tension issues with my machine. It is making 4-5 correct stitches, after that it completely skips the stitches. Then after 3-4 cm of cloth, it makes 1 correct stitch and then again skips it. Can you please suggest where the problem might come from and how to solve it? Regards
Good morning Navreeta. I am so pleased to hear you found the video helpful. As far as skipped stitches go - this is usually a problem that stems from the needle. 1. It could be that the needle is not suited to the fabric you are working on - for example f you have a ballpoint needle in the machine and you are sewing on a tightly woven fabric, the needle cannot penetrate the fabric, so it will skip stitches. 2. Likewise if the needle is blunt - it also will not be able to penetrate the fabric successfully and skip stitches instead. 3. Check that the needle is inserted correctly - so just loosen the needle bar thumb screw and make sure that the flat part of the needle is at the back and that it is in fact inserted all the way into the needle bar and then tighten the thumb screw securely again. 4. If you are working with temporary spray adhesives, clean the shaft of the needle regularly with a little bit of acetone to remove glue build up on the needle, which can also caused skipped stitches. (Also change to a different reel of thread and see if it is also not just a problematic reel of thread that is causing the problem) If none of the above solve the problem, then it would be best to get the machine to a technician to check your machine timing. I am having trouble getting my bobbin case back in after cleaning. I think the dots on my case have worn down, so that's hard to know. But a bigger problem is what position the part under the case (turned by the flywheel) should be at. I keep turning the flywheel to get it to line up somehow with the bobbin case and it's not working. I can get the bobbin case back in but not really locked in.
Hi Harper - which model of machine do you have? Generally you need to have the needle at its highest point - so if there is a needle up/down button press that until the needle is up. If not - turn the flywheel by hand until the needle is in it highest up position. (If it is a Brother machine there is a line on the flywheel that should line up with the split in the casing on the side of the machine, and the line must be at the top of the flywheel, and not at the bottom or anywhere in between.) Take close look at the video and make sure that your bobbin case is in the same position as I have mine and it should slip right in and then when you turn the flywheel the mechanism should move smoothly and the bobbin case must not jump up and down. I hope this is helpful. If you still struggle please take it to your closest dealer who has a technician that can assist. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
I’m trying to adjust my bobbin tension and the single slot screw is the green painted screw! What do I do? This is my first embroidery machine, but not my first brother
Hi Amber. Thanks for the comment. The green paint indicates that the bobbin tension has been preset for the Brother Bobbin thread - however you can still adjust the screw - I have done it to mine and it was perfect. I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to go to my website and fill in the very short pop-up box, because I share other information from there too. www.sewandcraftstepbystep.com Have a great day! Daaaammmittt! "Don't remove the metal plate" Well. I did. I've been having bobbin tension issues from the BEGINNING! Watched videos on how to adjust bobbin tension, none of them said not to remove plate. I stabbed myself in the foot. Sewing machine repair shops are SO bogged down and slow. Do I have any recourse? I couldn't get the bobbin case out without moving the metal plate out of the way.
Hi, Which model do you have? Tension issues can come from a variety of sources including the bobbin. There will be a new video coming out this weekend that will discuss this. I recommend not removing the needle plate on the electronic machines that have sensors. So if your machine is perhaps a manual machine without sensors - then it won't be a problem. You can email me and send pics to info@sewandcraftstepbystep.com and I can try and help. Have a great day! Kind Regards, Sherine Haines.
@@SewandCraftStep-by-Step I have a brother cs6000i. My machine is set at tension 4 and have not moved it but now the back of the stitches is feeling bulky so I removed the metal place do you think I messed it up. Thank you
Hi Rena, If the needle does not go through the hole in the needle plate, then it probably means that either the needle plate has not been replaced correctly - so please check that it is in properly. OR.... the needle bar is not aligned, so then in that case I would recommend that you take it to your dealer or a good sewing machine technician to take a look at. I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines. P.S. Please feel free to visit my website and fill in the short pop-up form - so that when I share more hints and tips, you will be notified too. www.sewandcraftstepbystep.com
Hi Scott, If the screw is painted green - it is because that particular bobbin case does not have adjustable tension - it has a pre-set tension. You can however purchase an adjustable bobbin case for your model from your nearest Brother dealer. I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
What do I do if my bobbin case has that green paint on the screw? I have tried and tried adjusting my top thread tension and the bobbin thread is still coming up on the top of the fabric. I am sewing on a lightweight knit and have done all kinds of adjustments. The only thing I can think of is adjusting the bobbin tension but I can't. Do I need to order a different kind of bobbin case? Or is there something else I should try? I have a Brother SE 400.
Good morning, Thanks for the excellent question. The bobbin case that has the green screw is known as the standard bobbin case. This means that the tension screw has been pre-set at the factory for 60 weight thread - which is the Brother bobbin fill thread that is included in the box when you get the machine. (The paint is only there for identification purposes - so you know that it is set for 60 weight thread.) So this is why, when you use other thread that is of a different brand and weight - then you will experience tension problems, and the screw will need to be adjusted. There are 2 solutions for this: 1. Buy another bobbin case, without the green marking, and use that as your "adjustable" bobbin case for different types and weights of thread. Then you can adjust it as you need to. ( this means you can keep the one with the green paint exclusively for the 60 weight bobbinfill thread) 2. OR, you can simply adjust the screw on the bobbin case with the green paint. However, if you choose to do this, I would suggest taking a photograph of the screw position before you adjust it, so that when you want to use the bobbinfill again, you can set it back to where it was. After taking the photograph, you can adjust it for the sewing thread that you plan to use. Generally the thread for sewing would be thicker - so you would adjust the screw in an anti-clockwise direction. (Loosen it) Only adjust by 1/4 of a turn at a time until it is right. I hope this is helpful. Hi Joann, If the needle is hitting the plate - then please check that the needle is the correct size for the fabric you are working on - because if it s the wrong needle or the needle is too small - the needle will flex and will touch the plate. Here is a link to my free sewing machine needles e-book. guides.sewandcraft-courses.com/sewing-machine-needles-free-e-book-9007 If you do have the correct size and type of needle in the machine - and it is still hitting the plate - please take it to your nearest technician - because it might be that a needle broke or bent and it has shifted the needle bar off centre. Only a technician can repair that. I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
I have a question please! I have the brother jx2517. So my machine was sewing perfectly fine up until I had to replace the needle, while replacing the needle I accidentally dropped it in that hole that’s right underneath it, I ended up unscrewing the two screws that hold down the metal plate, couldn’t get to the needle so I turned my Machine upside down to get the needle out, I put everything back together afterwards, but for some reason my stitches are loose now & I’ve broken at least 4 needles trying to sew smh! What could I have done wrong? I’m pretty new at sewing & things I sew are pretty much simple and I have been able to get good tight stitches up until this issue.
Hi, A quick tip for changing needles - always put a piece of paper or fabric under the presser foot when changing needles - then they can't slip into the machine. If your machine is breaking needles after having turned it upside down - it might be that the bobbin case has moved out of position - so please watch my video here to make sure it is back in correctly. ua-cam.com/video/kj0wSsEbm4E/v-deo.html I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
on my machine, the vertical screw on the left side is painted green and the plus one on the right side isn't, does that mean i should adjust the screw with the plus, or was that a manufacturing error? I have a Brother SC9500
Good morning, The screw without the paint must not be adjusted. The screw that has the paint on it should theoretically also not be adjusted - as the tension has been pre-set at the factory for optimal tension - and the paint "sets" it. However.... if you do need to adjust you can adjust the one with the green pant on it - but it will move away from the pre-set tension. This is not a big deal if it allows you to set it for what you need it to be set at. You can also get replacement bobbin cases at your local Brother dealer. I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to join my mailing list at www.sewandcraftstepbysstep.com as there will be a lot more interesting machine facts and projects coming in this new year. Have a great day. Hi Kristin, Thanks for the question. If you have the machine manual handy, go to page 47 and 48 - they have a diagram and instructions there that show how to remove the 2 back screws on the back plate. If you do not have the manual - it is easily downloadable free of charge from support.brother.com/g/b/index.aspx If you go to the Product Search and select Home Sewing machines, you can look for XM2701 and download the manual from there. Me: takes the metal plate off (also the plastic plate) Also me: "maybe I should look up how to clean it and all that" Video: "DO NOT TAKE THE METAL PLATE OFF"
Hi Syre, if your machine does not have a sensor - then taking the metal plate off is fine - it is just if a machine has built in sensors under the metal plate that it is important to be extremely careful - because if the sensor gets knocked off or damaged it will mean that the machine will have to be taken to a technician. It's weird because on my bobbin case on my brother, the screws are in opposite positions. The one on the right is painted. It's a brand new case and tension is way too tight.
Hi Steve, Please check that it is in fact a genuine Brother bobbin case, and not a generic one. Genuine ones always look like the one in my video. To adjust the tension always only adjust the screw with the single slot - as the one with 4 slots holds the case and spring together. I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
My machine has 2 different needle plates, I highly doubt I am supposed to haul my beast of a machine into the shop every week or instance I need to swith back and forth to the straight stitch only needle plate. YOU CAN REMOVE the plate just as it says to do in every single brother manual that exists. I have been sewing on all sorts of machines from domestics of all brands to industrials and never heard such advice.
Hi, Thanks for the comment. You are quite correct, you can change needle plates yourself on selected Brother models. Not all models have the interchangeable straight stitch plate option though. So, if your machine has the option to interchange - then it has been designed in a way that the owner/ user can easily change plates without any complications. However, owners of machines where there is no need to change plates, need not remove the plate when doing bobbin case maintenance. So my advice, just as a general rule while doing bobbin case maintenance, is to leave the plate on, simply because it is not necessary to remove it for this procedure. After having sold and worked on Brother machines for 30 years, I have seen it so often where customers can get the needle plate off easily, but then they are not able to put it back on properly, which can cause problems. I have had many customers bring their machines in to have their plates put back properly, after removing them to clean their machines. I have been able to help my customers, only because I have worked along side a technician who advises that owners of machines that don't have interchangeable plates should rather not remove them unnecessarily. However, I take do your point - and in future videos about topics like this I will make a note to mention the fact that people who have the interchangeable plates can take them off - but even then it is not necessary for the bobbin maintenance procedure. Have a great day. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines.
my machine will not move when stitching therefore thr thread underneath locks up and the top thread gets stuck in the bobbin case area when can you tell me that works to adjust it
Hi Clara. Perhaps your feed dog has been lowered? Please heck that the feed dog is fully up, by shifting the lever at the back of the machine to the left and right several times. Perhaps it is stuck in between fully up and fully down. Just also take note that it will only pop right up after you lower and raise the needle once. I hope this is helpful. I will be posting more videos like this soon, and also doing other short courses on my new website. (Link below) Have a great day. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines www.sewandcraftstepbystep.com
Hi, The tension screw on your bobbin case has been pre-set so that it works with the bobbin thread supplied with the machine. The paint is there to "set" the screw at that pre-set tension. You can still adjust it though - insert a small screw driver and it will break the seal of the paint - but do remember that if you want to use the same type of bobbin thread as supplied with the machine, you will have to re-adjust the tension screw again. I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
I am having so much trouble with the bobbin part that comes out. I cannot get it back in so that the machine wheel will turn forwards. Is it supposed to sit still or move about ? Mine has no identifying arrows to show me how to put it back in.
Hi, I am so sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the bobbin case. Unfortunately, if there are no markings - then it would make it more tricky to get the case back in as easily. If it is in correctly, the flywheel must be able to move smoothly with the bobbin case remaining in place without jumping up and down. If you are still struggling - please take it to your nearest dealer and ask them to assist. If you try to start sewing without it being in correctly you can break needles and throw the timing out too - so it is not worth taking a chance. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
Good morning Pomy, The screw can be adjusted multiple times. First adjust it to get the tension perfect. Then....when you find the tension becoming too loose again later, you can tighten it up by adjusting the screw. it gets tightened - because all tat is happening is that the tension spring is losing its tension over time from use. ( Kind of like how any other spring in other situations gets loose over time from being used😃) So....once you have adjusted it multiple times - and the screw can't be adjusted anymore, then it will be time to order a new bobbin case from your dealer. This does not happen that quickly though. Customers that use their machines a lot might only replace this part after a few years - some customers have not replaced theirs yet even after many years. It also depends on the types of thread you are using and whether you switch between various thicknesses of thread that you use on the bobbin. I hope this is helpful. There is a lot more information coming again this year - so please feel free to subscribe to my UA-cam channel and click on the little bell icon. Hi, Yes you can - I always keep a spare one on my accessory box - they are really inexpensive and are so important for guiding your bobbin thread correctly. You will get them from a Brother dealer. Which country are you in? If you are in South Africa, I can help. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
@@valeriehofmann2615 Hi, It called a "pile" The code for it here is YWXC3137000. - Check with your dealer if it is the same where you are? They are self - adhesive strips. Just check on your bobbin case if it has 1 or 2 piles. On some models there is just one - on other models there are 2 stuck side by side with their short sides matching, to create a longer pile. Hi, Thanks for the message. The thread cutter sensor is only available on the Brother Embroidery machines, and because your model is a sewing machine only, it won't have the sensor to warn you when the bobbin is almost empty. I hope this is helpful. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
Hi Raman, Please heck that the feed dog is fully up, by shifting the lever at the back of the machine to the left and right several times. Perhaps it is stuck in between fully up and fully down. Hi Charitha, If the motor is working, but the machine is not stitching it could be that the timing is out. Please take the machine to an accredited technician to look at. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
Takes a long time to get to the point. I will only like/subscibe if it is USEFUL, which it takes too long to find any actual information. I'm a minute in, and so far thwy've only told me to make sure the machine is off.....
Hi Karen, Thanks for the feedback. This is one of my first videos I made, and I have since shortened my intros on my new videos. Kind Regards, Sherine Haines
Iam having problems taking my case off , do we suppose to push anything ?
Thanks so much for the positive feed back - it is appreciated!
Don't feel alone - you are not the only one that had no idea that the bobbin plate could be removed - it is just that I had the privilege of going on technical training several times, and watching a technician cleaning and servicing machines - so I know how important it is to keep the bobbin area clean.

Where do you get a new one? What is it called?
I was going nuts after my brand new to me (but previously used) brother embroidery machine kept birdnesting every single time I tried to embroider. I hadn’t done one embroidery successfully so I was defeated. After countless videos and trying to adjust the top thread tension, adding more stabilizer, taking away stabilizer, and generally loosing my mind, this video finally resolved my issue! I just needed to clean out all the dust underneath the bobbin holder. If only I had come here in the first place. Thank you!!! You’ve saved my sanity!

Thank you so much!
Turns out my bobbin I can’t tighten, has the green stuff over it.
Cleaned everything and now it’s working perfect again!
Thank you!
Hello,
I am so pleased to hear the video was helpful - and that the machine is working perfectly again😀
The bobbin case with the green paint on the screw is generally used for sewing and embroidery where you will use the recommended thread, which is usually included in the box when you purchase the machine.

Hi,
Thanks for the comment.

Sherine Haines

no one ever told me not to remove the needle plate 😲 there are two screws in it, to me that says take me off and clean me! thank you!
Hi,
Thanks for the reply...yes it is tempting to take it off, and for the machines with no sensors it is not really an issue.
However, for machines with sensors, it can be tricky to put it back if you are not careful. I have had many a customer have a problem afterwards, resulting in a trip to the technician to put it back properly.😅
This is why I advise to leave it alone.😊

Hi,
which model of brother do you own?

Very helpful video
Glad it was helpful!
I have a Brother machine where the plate is one piece. You say not to remove the back part of the plate, but mine is not two pieces. So to get the bobbin
case out I have to removed the whole one-piece plate. I can get to the floor of this section with a brush to pick up the fuzz. I've never caused a problem
doing this.
Hi Emma,
Yes - it will depend on the model.
I hope this clarifies why I give this advice in the video 😀
Kind Regards,
Sherine Haines
Thank you sooooooo much i was in panic when mi needle started to hitting something after i cleaned up a thread
Glad it helped!
Hoping the bobbin adj screw helps with bunching on bottom side when sewing on clear tpu vinyl
Hi Launa,
Thanks for your comment.
When stitching on any type of vinyl - please make sure you have a teflon foot on your machine.
It is also often referred to as the "non-stick" foot.
This helps the fabric to glide through and not get stuck - which is what will be causing the bunching.

(Also change to a different reel of thread and see if it is also not just a problematic reel of thread that is causing the problem)
If none of the above solve the problem, then it would be best to get the machine to a technician to check your machine timing.

(If it is a Brother machine there is a line on the flywheel that should line up with the split in the casing on the side of the machine, and the line must be at the top of the flywheel, and not at the bottom or anywhere in between.)
Take close look at the video and make sure that your bobbin case is in the same position as I have mine and it should slip right in and then when you turn the flywheel the mechanism should move smoothly and the bobbin case must not jump up and down.
I hope this is helpful.
If you still struggle please take it to your closest dealer who has a technician that can assist.

The green paint indicates that the bobbin tension has been preset for the Brother Bobbin thread - however you can still adjust the screw - I have done it to mine and it was perfect.

Hi,
Which model do you have?
Tension issues can come from a variety of sources including the bobbin.
There will be a new video coming out this weekend that will discuss this.
I recommend not removing the needle plate on the electronic machines that have sensors.
So if your machine is perhaps a manual machine without sensors - then it won't be a problem.
You can email me and send pics to info@sewandcraftstepbystep.com and I can try and help.

My brother sewing machine adjust so the needle cannot go through the hole to pick up the bobbin thread .what to do
Hi Rena,
If the needle does not go through the hole in the needle plate, then it probably means that either the needle plate has not been replaced correctly - so please check that it is in properly.
OR.... the needle bar is not aligned, so then in that case I would recommend that you take it to your dealer or a good sewing machine technician to take a look at.
I hope this is helpful.

Wait I’m confused, on my brother LB5000 the green is painted over the screw that your tightening but you said if it has green pain don’t touch it?
Hi Scott,
If the screw is painted green - it is because that particular bobbin case does not have adjustable tension - it has a pre-set tension.
You can however purchase an adjustable bobbin case for your model from your nearest Brother dealer.
I hope this is helpful.

Good morning,
Thanks for the excellent question.
The bobbin case that has the green screw is known as the standard bobbin case.
This means that the tension screw has been pre-set at the factory for 60 weight thread - which is the Brother bobbin fill thread that is included in the box when you get the machine.
(The paint is only there for identification purposes - so you know that it is set for 60 weight thread.)
So this is why, when you use other thread that is of a different brand and weight - then you will experience tension problems, and the screw will need to be adjusted.
There are 2 solutions for this:
1. Buy another bobbin case, without the green marking, and use that as your "adjustable" bobbin case for different types and weights of thread. Then you can adjust it as you need to. ( this means you can keep the one with the green paint exclusively for the 60 weight bobbinfill thread)

On the ce1008 how to stop the needlefrom hitting the plate
Hi Joann,
If the needle is hitting the plate - then please check that the needle is the correct size for the fabric you are working on - because if it s the wrong needle or the needle is too small - the needle will flex and will touch the plate.
Here is a link to my free sewing machine needles e-book.
guides.sewandcraft-courses.com/sewing-machine-needles-free-e-book-9007
If you do have the correct size and type of needle in the machine - and it is still hitting the plate - please take it to your nearest technician - because it might be that a needle broke or bent and it has shifted the needle bar off centre. Only a technician can repair that.
I hope this is helpful.

Hi,
A quick tip for changing needles - always put a piece of paper or fabric under the presser foot when changing needles - then they can't slip into the machine.
If your machine is breaking needles after having turned it upside down - it might be that the bobbin case has moved out of position - so please watch my video here to make sure it is back in correctly.

Will this work for the babylock ellure? Thanks
Hi,
I am not familiar with the Babylock machine, but - if your bobbin case looks like the one I show in the video - then it should.😀
on my machine, the vertical screw on the left side is painted green and the plus one on the right side isn't, does that mean i should adjust the screw with the plus, or was that a manufacturing error? I have a Brother SC9500
Good morning,
The screw without the paint must not be adjusted.

Hi Kristin,
Thanks for the question.
If you have the machine manual handy, go to page 47 and 48 - they have a diagram and instructions there that show how to remove the 2 back screws on the back plate.
If you do not have the manual - it is easily downloadable free of charge from support.brother.com/g/b/index.aspx

Me: takes the metal plate off (also the plastic plate)
Also me: "maybe I should look up how to clean it and all that"
Video: "DO NOT TAKE THE METAL PLATE OFF"
Hi Syre, if your machine does not have a sensor - then taking the metal plate off is fine - it is just if a machine has built in sensors under the metal plate that it is important to be extremely careful - because if the sensor gets knocked off or damaged it will mean that the machine will have to be taken to a technician.

It's weird because on my bobbin case on my brother, the screws are in opposite positions. The one on the right is painted. It's a brand new case and tension is way too tight.
Hi Steve,
Please check that it is in fact a genuine Brother bobbin case, and not a generic one.
Genuine ones always look like the one in my video.
To adjust the tension always only adjust the screw with the single slot - as the one with 4 slots holds the case and spring together.
I hope this is helpful.

@@SewandCraftStep-by-StepAfter adjustment of the Painted one it works is all I know. The original the paint was gone so I don't know.
I'm a mechanic and sometimes use green loctite. I'm thinking that is what the pain may be. It's used to help screws not back out so easily.
Hi,
Thanks for the comment.
Kind Regards,
Sherine Haines.

Please heck that the feed dog is fully up, by shifting the lever at the back of the machine to the left and right several times.
Perhaps it is stuck in between fully up and fully down.

what to do when the tension screw is the one painted green????
Hi,
The tension screw on your bobbin case has been pre-set so that it works with the bobbin thread supplied with the machine.

I am having so much trouble with the bobbin part that comes out. I cannot get it back in so that the machine wheel will turn forwards. Is it supposed to sit still or move about ? Mine has no identifying arrows to show me how to put it back in.
Hi,
I am so sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the bobbin case.
Kind Regards,
Sherine Haines
Can i adjust the tension multiple times if it will happen again? Or there's a limitation in adjusting it?
Good morning Pomy,
The screw can be adjusted multiple times.
First adjust it to get the tension perfect.
Then....when you find the tension becoming too loose again later, you can tighten it up by adjusting the screw.
it gets tightened - because all tat is happening is that the tension spring is losing its tension over time from use.
( Kind of like how any other spring in other situations gets loose over time from being used😃)
So....once you have adjusted it multiple times - and the screw can't be adjusted anymore, then it will be time to order a new bobbin case from your dealer.
