Have been waiting for this video since the day i saw ur run on Strava. I was really looking forward to how u managed to stay in such straight line. Bravo !! Running in nature is the best kind of run.
Fantastic route and video Göran! So glad to see a come back of orienteering in your channel. Can't remember how many time I replayed your orienteering videos (and running videos as well, but orienteering is the best of course 🤓😂). Always an inspiration!
😂 amazing to hear Göran say the word "shit" that made me laugh , I don't know why😂 Great video @Göran Winblad, you should do more of these adventures, they are really fun to watch
That was a really cool challenge and a demanding one for sure. Not knowing the obstacles and the terrain, finding surprises along the way and making sure to keep going forward. Love it!
This is amazing. Very inspirational. I always try to find new paths in woodland areas too while running, but where I live here in the UK it's mostly thick bramble, so it's impossible most of the time. Or I'm just not tough enough. :-). The woods look awesome at your place. Bravo!
I once did orienteering in Sweden. I wasn't very good at it. The terrain can be very ambiguous and I often have to stop to get my bearings. I suppose Norway is similar... It is amazing to see you can keep a straight line for THAT long while running, that is mind-blowing!!!! Also by the way great music 👏👏👏
Great video as always. I grew-up in the UK, and even back in the 70's the Silva compass was the obvious choice. In fact we would never go out on the hills without one. I always admired them for their rugged, minimalist design. I still use them, 50 years later.
Really cool video! Reminded me of the time my friend and I decided to "take a shortcut" in the middle of the Alps because 2 roads weren't connected and it 'could not be that far' and we couldnt figure out why they didnt just connect the roads,, safe to say we found out 😂 oh well, we live and we learn.
Been following you for some time, your channel is by far my favorite running channel. Keep up the good work. Having been in Norway many times over the these years and visiting my family it’s great to see many of the places I am familiar with
From 9min38 to 9min48: genius! “I can pick up the pace in this open forest …” 😅 I have to admit I am jealous on the area where you live. In Belgium even in the more open spaces most parts are private and you can not run through it.
Great video, really enjoyed it. What it made me realise was that I used to do a lot of running like this… as I’ve got older I find myself glued to forest tracks, I think I need to step off the trail again. It’s too easy to get caught up in mins/km but when your fast days are behind you you have nothing to be afraid of. 😁
Amazing video and challenge!! I am so envious of this type of terrain!! No way to run a straight line for 21km in Taiwan, but i’ll try to think of new similar challenges 🎉
Awesome job Göran! I think most people underestimates how difficult this is. Not only the navigation aspect, but also actually moving through some of that terrain. I know I would fail at both!
Thanks for the great videos Goran! You video of video of the underground endurance run at the stadium in Olso encouraged me to do my first 24 hr endurance run on a local high school track. The longest I have ever run before was 8.5 hrs. Made is the whole 24, and covered 62.75 miles! Enough to get 4th in the men's division! Thanks for you amazing videos! John Vilas, NC, USA
This is Europe at its finest. Some British guy @GeoWizard invents a (on first glance stupid) game. The straight line competition catches on and the game gets real. As this game is outdoors and in the woods, of course a scandinavian catches up the idea and smashes the competition. All of this makes wonderful content! Cheers from Germany 😊
Göran, you are a crazy man :), is the first time I see someone doing crazy stuff like I do. Please keep running and inspiring others like you did with me.
Kjell Lauri (1975?):"Fågelvægen e snabbaste vægen"! (The birds route is the fastest route, meaning the compassline). Kjell Lauri was back then the best or one of the best junior orienteering runners in the world. I love this video :) I ran many compasslines as a teenager.
I sort of imagine that this is what the Barkley marathons would be like. But damn, what a video Goran. Quality was insane and the challenge was super cool. Amazing.
Рік тому
Navigating over that terrain and keeping a straight line for that long requires a lot of skill. Well done!
I really want to try some of the orienteering races. I have a Silva expedition 4-360 and my head torch is Silva as well actually the Trailrunner Free Ultra
I love the timing of this video. Today, I ran in the danish national championsship in Ultra long distance orienteering, and I ran 25,3 km in the forest, though NOT in a straight line!
Super fun content! And this sponsor was so good fit to the content. I've thought if expensive compass would be worth to the money and that needle defenetly looked so stable💥
Very fun video and pretty inspiring to see you tackle this. It makes me want to go exploring new areas myself. I'll have to brush up on my orienteering skills.
I was thinking of doing this on my channel but we don't have friendly forest like you have there. On Vancouver Island this challenge would have me moving at 1 km per hour if I'm lucky... crashing through the heavy bush.
Så roligt att se!! Det påminner mig om när jag jobbade på riksskogstaxeringen o man var tvungen att gå exakt rakt fram med kompass för att hitta provytorna som låg mitt ute i skogen, utan vägar!
Great job. You're nuts swining in freezing water though! Come try to run through Central Ontario. You've never seen Bush so thick and ground so uneven!
Amazing orienteering skill! Is entire Norway covered with so detailed and reliable o-maps? Luckily there seems to be lots of small reference point to stay on course.
Hey Göran, you're already a crazy geezer. It must have been one hell of a half marathon, but a great adventure. Only with compass and map is already ne number, what today certainly many can no longer. That somehow arouses my interest. Great video
Die Idee finde ich richtg gut! Was hast du als Entschädigung gemacht bzgl der beschädigten Bäume und Pflanzen auf der Route (etliche plattgetretene Pflanzen, viele abgebrochene Zweige usw.) ? :)
Here in Scandinavia you are free to move freely walk or run in all forest areas no matter who ones the land. And just like any animal stepping on the ground the forest doesn’t suffer from me moving through it.
Kept on thinking you were going to break a leg or twist your ankle at any moment! I had to preview the end to make the conclusion of the video wasn't in a hospital room. Now I can watch with slightly less anxiety.
@@goranwinblad, (unfortunately) I’m just a beginner, and even a hard Parkrun, 5k, it’s a little too hard for my knees if I try to do my best. Landing 90kgs is not that easy it seems… So my run today was somewhat challenging. :) We were once in Finland, and there were a lot of forests and lakes. I wonder through how many lakes you would have had to swim if you would have done this challenge there. Was also nice to see that you used a compass and you managed to keep the direction so precisely. I’ll check the model out, maybe one of my nephews would enjoy it.
Hi Göran, fantastic video, you inspire me. I want to start filming my runs too. You are using an Insta360 right? It seems it produces super cool footage. Do you use some kind of lense protection? I hear their lenses are very delicate. That's the main reason I haven't pulled the trigger yet to buy the insta360 x3
Hi Göran! What is your opinion on MAF training (zone 2)? I have seen a lot recently about the topic and since you never talk about it i wondered, does it really work? By the way keep up the good work, i really like your videos!
Hej, is it possible that you provide this map somewhere to download, maybe also only the corridor with some meters of map left and right if you aren‘t allowd to share the whole map? Would be interesting to try it oneself :)
Yeah it was! I used a auto generated orienteering map from laser data from www.mapant.no at 1:10000 scale had to have 7 a4 maps to cover the whole line 😅
Love the orienteering spin on the geowizard straight line challenge
get in!
Thanks!
Agree. Real authenticity.
If anyone reading this hasn't seen geowizards straight line stuff... It's a must watch.
If your channel's initials are GW, you have to do a straight line mission.
New type of triathlon: Running, swimming and rock climbing in a forest.
Have been waiting for this video since the day i saw ur run on Strava. I was really looking forward to how u managed to stay in such straight line. Bravo !! Running in nature is the best kind of run.

What an epic run! Definitely inspired to try something like this out. New challenges always keep training interesting
Yeah it was you should do it a cool way to get to new places 😊

I like, that you had to swim the river and become soaking wet for the rest of the route but never complained about it. 🙂
Haha yeah that was “refreshing” 😅

Getting it done with the Kartepullautin map as well!

Glad to hear Ralph! 😊
You a good Dad putting your kids first! Great run, great video.
Thanks!
I agree with you goran, running trail in the forest alone is the best running experience ever👍
inspirational channel, Goran. I will run a half marathon for the first time this year. Cant wait.
Glad to hear! Ok I wish you the best of luck in your half marathon!

Excellent video Göran. Thanks. And very impressive keeping to that line and not getting disoriented. Even with the compass.
Thanks Peter 😊

I Just love how you always invent new challenges. Thanks for your Great Inspiration!
Glad you like them! 😊
Not sure I wanna battle all the snakes and Crocs with this challenge at home in Australia
Fully understand that I ran orienteering in a forest in Australia once and I was afraid all the time 😅
Amazing scenery!! It's very pleasant to watch your videos, the atmosphere is epic!!!
Thanks Jonas makes me happy to hear 😊
This a fantastic, and unbelivable epic run, the ultimate orienteering! And also gave me a maximum motivation! Thank you for to share this nice video!

Awesome, Göran. Really inspired to do something like this here in Brazil. Thanks for sharing 😎👍🏽.
That is one of the coolest compasses I’ve ever seen! Ordering one this week and I’ll use your link.
Cool, glad to hear hope

This was such an inspirational film Goran. Thank you 🙂
ur passionate to running will inspire so many people.

Cool to hear, sounds like a tough and fun o-race!
@@goranwinblad it really was! If interested, you can see the course on o-track. I did M35 because I'm old 😅
That was great Goran! I really enjoyed that one. One of your best adventures and videos!
Thanks glad to hear 😊

Thanks! Yeah it for sure makes a difference when running!
Very fun video and pretty inspiring to see you tackle this. It makes me want to go exploring new areas myself. I'll have to brush up on my orienteering skills.

Great challenge! As an orienteer myself, this is really spectacular! Congratulations!
Thanks! 😊
Thanks! 😊
...@ahh finally a lovely open forrest'.... Cut to dense trees and branches whiping Göran in the face 😂
Comedy gold!
I was thinking of doing this on my channel but we don't have friendly forest like you have there. On Vancouver Island this challenge would have me moving at 1 km per hour if I'm lucky... crashing through the heavy bush.
This is a cool Adventure! We don't have forrests big enough for that in Denmark

Göran du är en hjälte!! Otroligt inspirerande video. Tack
Kul att den inspirerade! 😊
It is really fun to run and challenge in this way good job
what a madlad
😁
Great job. You're nuts swining in freezing water though! Come try to run through Central Ontario. You've never seen Bush so thick and ground so uneven!
Haha thanks! 😅
Awesome video, love the combination of endurance and adventure! Please check for Ticks after running such a dense Forrest
Thanks glad you liked it! Yeah already did that happy I didn’t got any but they are mostly here during the summertime.

One thing I cant get over is how do you not roll your ankle in the marshy/bog areas.
Your editing game is improving 😎 good stuff
Thanks!

Yeah it was a super fun challenge! 😊
I can hear the Geowizard straight line mission theme in the background
What camera did you use to film this? Also incredible video as always! You always inspire me to run after watching your vids
I used the Insta 360 X3, thanks makes me happy to hear!
Ser riktigt härligt ut! Skulle gärna se fler orienteringsvideor från dig i framtiden!
This was great! You did it, that's so cool. A creative challenge
Thanks Daniel 😁
Impressive to keep the straight line!
Thanks for creating this
so cool and fun, I love all your videos and find them really inspiring (to go run on a road)
Göran, this was a great run! Are you taking part in this years wings for life event by any chance? If you have not heard of it - look it up! ;)
Tahnks and thanks for the letting me know about it will check it out! 😊
This just reminded me of the Barkley Marathon😂 you should try your hand at it!
