... Buy an RX 480. It's so damn Identical that there's no logic in releasing this product. People are salty, while we already knew that it was a refresh, because it provides minimal gains(Which makes sense)
No but, due to the RX 580, the 480 will drop in price to get rid of stock. And it's been over 10 months, and what AMD have delivered is the same refreshed card, so for cheaper price, why wouldn't you get the RX 480? And performance wise, regardless of what is said it is almost obvious that the difference is 5% to 10%, which is not a lot , and OC a RX 480 will provide stock 580 performance
the 580 should have been a cut-down vega chip them the 570 should have been a 480. im disappointed in amd with this move. nvidia might try to cut amds throat with the 1160. look at the room between the 1060 and 1070 :(

A RX 580 it will be for my next PC, since I don't want to pay for a G-Sync-monitor.
you dont need to pay for gsync monitor, its just an extra feature, you can still use basic 144hz with 1070 and works just fine
gsync works with freesync monitors now

I'm seeing in the comments alot of, "the 580 and 570 is not a worthwhile upgrade over the previous 480 and 570." What you fail to realize, is the RX500 series is meant/aimed at those upgrading from the R9 380/X and lower (GTX 960/970 and lower) people. there are still 500 million people who play games using a GTX 960/R9 380/X or lower card. that is where the RX500 series comes into play.

Whilst a rebrand for sure, to say its just an overclocked 480 is not quite right: they did add a new memory state that while help with power consumption during media playback, bringing it in line with the GTX 1060. Minor stuff I know but every little bit is welcome :)

SO I have the HP Omen 17.3" with the RX 580 and got it for $1200 ... and I've been testing it's limits for the longest time since I got it... Runs Great perfect and I play overwatch on it all the time at (Ultra settings) while recording at 1080p (60fps) Really love this laptop :)

@Dimitry I wouldn't say the 570 competes with 1050ti, the performance window is just above the reach of the 1050ti. I.e. the gtx960's performance window is from pt-A to pt-B, then the 1050ti from pt-B to pt-C, then the RX470 from pt-C to pt-E, and the RX570 overlaps from pt-D to pt-F performance window. (all relatively speaking) :)

I bought my 1060 6gb in December, Still love it, have been considering a 1070 after the price drop. If I was building now, I think the Nvidia price drop has made the 1070 the best value. The 580 seems to compete well in it's price point,which is great for users who can't afford a 1070.

I was going to get a 480 for a Hackintosh video processing rig, but maybe I will consider the 580. Currently, I am using a 11 year old iMac Duo Core, but it cannot handle the current generation of software without coming close to a nuclear meltdown.
I would be more interested in the rendering performance for video and such. Not too much in gaming, but I am glad AMD is coming back.

There are 460s undercutting the price of the similarly cheap-but-effective 1050 by quite a large margin...to the point where the proposed price point of the 550 seems questionable. If the 560 slots in alongside the 460's price, there will be almost no use for the 550 aside from perhaps...super tiny passive cooled models for micro builds, or super low power models for upgrading old systems with like 300W PSUs.
The 550 looks to have performance coming in at roughly twice that of the leading IGPUs...barely worth buying for most purposes, though maybe worth it paired with a used CPU or low end Xeon or Ryzen.
rx 550 is garbage buddy rather spend a few bucks more for rx 460/rx560

ParadOx763, thanks for the reply comment. Yes, it is understandable that almost all benchmarks we see in any Channel will vary and possibly even greatly depending on test hardware, set-up, game, settings (game & OS, BIOS), overclock (CPU & GPU), etc. Often we are not given the 100% detail on all this, even though many Channels claim they've provided it, so its more or less a horseshoe toss metric of accuracy imo. My point is almost every other (previous) "review" video of any GPU includes for comparison purposes another GPU OEM equally as matched, one that is considered one grade above, and one considered one grade below. With RX 580 many videos you only see the GTX 1060 6 GB & 3 GB but nothing in the high end, that's very strange and unusual imo. Are so many getting that lazy or are they purposely just not providing that, this time? I already know the answer myself as I've dug into this very deeply with other Channels however I thought I would throw that out there and again I'm impressed / glad that I've seen it included here. The TDP btw is a red herring often / used found to throw an OEM under the bus (too mush heat, power, both, etc.). If you want to know the truth there are video's that show you how to properly run an RX 580 with the same / near GTX 1060 6 GB power levels and extremely low temperatures too.
Definitely getting this for my first PC build, they are around £250-300 in my country and I'll be pairing it with a Ryzen 7 1700X with a aourus (or however you spell it) gaming K5 x370 motherboard, it's going to take me ages to save up for though haha

I have an XFX GTS XXX Edition card in my rig. Love it. No real overclocking tho.
I personally have always been an Nvidia fanboy. I had an NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB. And it died. I just got the ASUS Dual RX580 Yesterday night, and I am extremely happy...so far. This card is a fucking monster. I can definitely tell you the rx580 handle some of my games a lot better than the 1060 I came from. My advice is if you get it. Make sure you have a good power supply.

Think i'm going to stick to continuing to save up to get my EVGA FTW3 1080ti, I have around half the money of what it cost, by May 9th when it comes out I should have even more dinero saved up =) Will still be interesting to see how VEGA stacks up against it though.
Test RX 550, it sounds pretty interesting for its price point.
After watching this, and considering the price differential I've gone for the RX 580 8G OC from MSI.

Seems like it's time to overclock my MSI Armor RX480! I know it gets to 1350 MHz at least, since I tested it when I first got it. I didn't bother keeping that OC since the framerate difference wasn't even noticeable on my 60Hz monitor. At least I know I can match the base clock of the 580. (Possibly even 1400 MHz, I've never tested it)
Undervolt the 580! :D You may be able to keep the clocks on the saphire and make it same power as the 1060! Love your videos and also do a video going over the features the 580 vs 1060 and how well they operate! Even include Freesync and G-sync into one complete guide!

Looks like a Ryzen 1600x, that less fancy motherboard chipset and a GTX 1070 card on sale might be the best idea I can have right now.. That is for me playing at ultra/high settings on 1080p ultrawide 75Hz.
Currently maxed out my overclock on air and don't want to spend money on water cooling: i5 2500K, 16Gb RAM and a GTX 780, everything OC'ed.

What the RX 480 should have been.....Now that is a card I trully like. Not like I am going to buy one since I own the 980ti and will continue owning it for 2-3 yrs. But still nice to see development and competiton :)

DX12/Vulkan really gives a hefty boost in performance for AMD cards.
I wonder if AMD is going to update drivers and if it's gonna improve card's performance or the card runs at it's best already. It's still a very good deal, I mean for 220$ I would totally go for an RX580 since most 6GB 1060 cost 250$+ for some reason even after 9 months since it's release.

Just picked up a Sapphire RX 480 8gb yesterday. My eyes are being bled from the rays of value coming from my screen. The price makes up for not waiting for the 580.
im thinkig if the overclock done on the 580 by the manufacturers will reduce the lifetime of the card compared to a 480 for example
And Indian pricing will be screwed anyway... But since they did such an good job with RX 480 updates, Im expecting 580 to match up with 1070 soon.
Since the 580 is just a refresh of the 480 when architecture is concerned, does that mean they can both be crossfired together as well? I already have the Nitro+ 480, that could be great if the 580s could be combined with the 480s as well...

I am always wondering about mining performance with these cards (its the primary reason I pick AMD over nVidia atm). Also, I wish you would have used a Sapphire Nitro RX 480 some some sort to compare the Nitro RX 580 to. The Nitro RX 480 was likely the most popular of the 3rd party RX 480's released because of its superior air cooling performance, so I'd rather see that thrown in to compare.
Great review, but how do you know if the cards are bad overclockers if you only checked two of them?
own 1060 happy with it 1440p not going back to Red gives me nightmares of increased sound and heat.

Why does AMD repeatedly just ignore or put off making higher end cards? This year I built my first PC with a GTX 1070 FTW, and for the life of me cant understand why they are taking forever to try to compete. Competition is good...

shawcobra The thing is, it's too late for a lot of people, my patience was lost when I bought Nvidia, and a lot of people think the same way.
The majority of people buying GPUs nowadays don't want to spend $300-$400 on a card so AMD seem to be targeting the masses, which is reasonable however, I do think that they should have a 1070 competitor too. I suppose doing this is safer in terms of that they aren't spending more money on something which doesn't have as high of a profit margin for them. They probably know from the past few years that those spending more, tend to go with Nvidia.
Probably because their R9 300 and 200 series including the Fury and the Fury Xs didn't do so hot. They are targeting the budget gamers which still saves them money on R&D. Problem is, if they don't release something better than a 1070 at least, nobody will care anyways and they will end up making no profit at all.
Yeah, it makes sense going for the budget people more, but I would still think there is enough of a market for them too, but then again, maybe the loud minority of AMD fans, are actually the majority, and there aren't enough people that actually buy AMD higher end cards like their fury series.
HELP! Can't decide between the S340 Elite (potentially the hyper beast edition) and the Phanteks TGE (still open to new suggestions!). Both look sexy but really need help deciding which would be better overall! I've watched these all and thought the S340 Elite and the Phanteks Evol ATK(TGE) were the best 2 however there have been no direct comparison for these. Or are there any 2017 releases that I should look out for. Looking for something that will show off the nzxt kraken and hue + lighting nicely whilst keeping cool and quiet.

Hey Dmitry! What do you think is the best card for a 2560×1080 monitor? I feel like the 1070 is a little overkill but the 1060/480 just didn't have QUITE enough power. Do you think the 580 fills that gap?
JSephH76 honestly, looking at the benchmarks for the games, I'm not too sure if a 580 is any better than a 1060???? So.... If a 1060 6gb didn't cut it, I doubt this 580 will either. But again, I need to see more tests before I can say that confidently

Because as far as I remember my 480 always ran on it's boostclock while gaming, back when it was at stock settings.
But then again my FX 6350 never went above it's base clock...

my 480 sapphire nitro runs at 1475mhz solid with no extra voltage
i was considering a 580 for the replament of my hd6970 but after a responce from ek that they are not planning any waterblock for the 500 line ill prob save up and go for a 1070 instead unless vega releasse soon and do not cost 1000$
oh and xfx has a version of the 580 with the same clock as the nitro+

AMD just confirmed that we can crossfire RX 480 with RX 580, so people who already own RX 480 and wanna add RX 580 as their second card, they didn't have to sell their RX 480 and buy pair of RX 580's

After this RX 580 seems like more likely way to go for me than GTX 1060, also because ShadowPlay is not as good and as stable as it used to be earlier.
I got my xfx RX580 gts XXX running oc to 1475 core and 2250 memory pulling less than 200watts
