short version fix: switch off machine - fill water up - press 1 cup button and on switch - then press 1 cup and steam button together the machine will continuous pump water out of the espresso - then while pressing these buttons turn steam lever on and off approx every 20 seconds so water comes out of the steam spout - do this process for about 2 liters of water and the machine should work ok
My friend you are the BEST!!!! I had the same problem for 1 year. I had tried many things. However, with the solution you suggested, my delonghi is now working properly. Thank you very much!!!
I totally admire your approach with debugging and finding the bug :D Descaling helped me, with some issues. The descaling also stopped after 3 sec. The trick was to turn the steam knob on and off repeatedly a few times to run some descaling solution through the system, and after that the descaling process went as usually, and now it works again. I also noticed that my machine haven't notified about the descaling with the blinking led for a long time, which is strange.
hey man 🤘, thanks! yeah - that flow sensor seems to get stuck in many cases regarding the blinking, you can set both the temperature and the water hardness from that same menu - maybe set it to hard so it reminds you more often
@@ritajonkute416 The flow meter is a plastic, cylindrical shaped object that takes a quarter turn to open, separating the two halves. It is very easy to clean. Unfortunately in order to have access to it you basically have to completely disassemble the machine. TL;DR replace flowmeter. I also had this issue with short espresso or steam followed by all 3 lights flashing and then the 1 and 2 cup signs flashing suggesting the boiler temperature was too high. My problems also started after I attempted a descale. I tried a factory reset. I tried replacing the OPV valve as that appears the most common issue reported on UA-cam. That did not sort the issue. I tried the suggestion from Colin below of running through lots of water. That did not work either. I then removed the flowmeter. The new one "whistled" as you blew into it. The old one did not rotate anywhere near as freely. I installed the new flowmeter and it worked. Colin's solution is clearly the easiest, so try that first. But if you have to open your Dedica, I would suggest removing the flowmeter which is pretty easy to do and seeing if when you blow into it, it rotates easily. Beware the water that will be pushed out when you blow. Replacement flow meter is approx £10 and a security drill bit set was £6.
Mine had this problem 5days into using it! Tried all these hacks, but for some reason it started up again after I took the tank off, turned steamer on till it ran out, and pressed expresso button till it ran out. Popped full tank on, and is now working properly again. Go figure, huh?
Thanks for the video. I have the same one. The problem here is that when I froth the cycle goes for 15 seconds or so and I have to start it again and again. I am not even sure if this is a problem or it was just designed like that. When I switch the lever for frothing all the way it start making loud clicking noise. I am curious if I can set the time for frothing for lits say 30 seconds or so. Does it have this option?
Problem I have is that when I turn the power button on, the lights light up and then immediately turn off. No 'warming up' period, no blinking lights... about 0:57 is where all the lights would go dark for our machine.

I use a 3-pin to 2-pin adapter to use for sockets in Vietnam. I got this error and checked the adapter, the adapter supports 250v x 3A= 750w. But delonghi Ec685 uses up to 1500w. so I bought a new adapter 15A , problem solved. If you have the same error, please check whether the power source, power cord, and power outlet are suitable.
It's definitely a flow meter issue as others have mentioned. It's either worn out or blocked. If descaling doesn't fix it, you will have to open it up and replace it, or clean it. I cleaned mine and cleared the small hole with a tooth pick. Been working perfectly ever since!
After replacing various parts (mainboard, pump, steam valve and even the OPV) & cleaning the flowmeter, I finally replaced the flow meter and it now works perfectly. The big change was that the machine started to do the pre-infusion for a couple of seconds followed by the main dose whereas before it looked like it was working but would only do the main dose for 3s as described in this video. @dariee thank you for posting the original video. Nice!
It was the same fault with my machine. Descaling did not start either. Solution: Pumping the Descaling Fluid on the machine in manual mode. Power OFF Press and hold 1 cup button. Power ON Press steam button with 1 cup button and the pump is runing.
Hey have the same machine. But the problem is different. Milk is not frothing in my machine. What can be done or what’s the reason that it has suddenly stopped frothing?

Hello, I am wondering if you can help me, I have the same machine brand new, my button on/off when I click it doesn't stay on and the machine turn off.
Are you still using this machine? I can see you removed the metal steam wand. It's so much easier to froth milk to make microfoam with the rubber wand only, but I have a problem with it. Mid-frothing my rubber wand just comes off due to the pressure and splashes milk everywhere. Have you managed to fix this issue?

Hi. My macchine had the same behaviour. I fixed by cleaning the fluxmeter, there were some fines. To do that I dismantled the machine and I opened the fluxmeter. I am having a similar problem with my machine. The machine has a run time on my double shot for around 25 seconds which is great but as soon as I apply the filter with coffee in and press the shot it does the same panic mode after around 3/5 seconds, but without the filter, it's running for the full time. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I have tried to will the filter with less coffee grounds and its still not producing a shot.

MrBradJJ I ended up taking my machine back. I found that if I freshly ground the beans then I don’t have the problem anymore. It may have been an error with the machine or that the coffee grounds that I was using had gone weird.
@darieee. After about 4 years I got the same identical problem. How did you finally fix it? The repair service reveal you some workaround trick ? Thanks
It is not a motherboard. I had exactly the same problem as yours. Today I disassembled the machine, I cleaned the sieve in the coffee outlet (it was quite dirty inside) and I cleaned the flowmeter (but it seemed to be clean). After that I assembled the machine and it works fine. I have no idea what exactly solved the issue, but if it had been the motherboard, the problem would have stayed.
very great point !!! i'm very sure it was the flow meter I kept mine superclean ... and even if there was goop inside, flow was exactly as usual PLEASE tell me how you opened yours ... I tried and gave up after ascertaining that my only option was excess force ... (+ I still had warranty)
I just got mine from Costco, and It doesn't work 😭. Mine is red like yours , also it doesn't close. I tried it all and I couldn'tn make one coffee. I will get a new one to see if I am lucky this time.
Same problem. I will contact Delonghi / Bing Lee and try to get replaced. Evidently an issue with this machine through the board and not a one off. Brother in law has a cheap Sunbeam and it's faultless.
I had the exact same issues. Everything was solved by: 1) resetting the machine to factory defaults and 2) descaling the machine using white vinegar, including rinsing procedure (part of the descaling programme). After that it works great! & No need to buy expensive descaling liquids.
Everyone says Colin's solution works.... But I have gone through all 200 comments and find no comment from anyone called Colin. Where is it? Please help!
I expect so. I’ve had it just over a year. Before the descaling I’ve been having quite a few problems with the frother stopping mid action and the lights flashing randomly. However - this time with the descaling - after I went away and left it for awhile I have managed to get it to complete.
Gini Mags cr reviews state frother stops & flashes if boiler too hot so cool first by water flow. Then purge water & begin frothing again (button no longer flashes once cooler)

Some people “metaseedslab”here in the reply did this: switch off machine - fill water up - press 1 cup button and on switch - then press 1 cup and steam button together the machine will continuous pump water out of the espresso - then while pressing these buttons turn steam lever on and off approx every 20 seconds so water comes out of the steam spout - do this process for about 2 liters of water and the machine should work ok
Mine does this after a cleaning cycle like yours just starting to flush it with clean water from which it;'s need recovered. I've tried every form of reset but it never goes back to normal operating cycles. No Pre Infusion and short runs on the volumetric shots (4-7 seconds). I can get OK intermittent shots but no consistent and reliable milk frothing. I am looking at ditching the machine as it's so frustrating even though I've invested in 51mm bottomless portafilter, baskets etc so bit sad to loose all this and start again on another machine.
check the comments - especially the hearted ones - someone did come up with a solution it's probably some flow sensor getting stuck on broken off lime from the descaling everyone seemed to have quite good results following that method

I tried the way with holding buttons for 2liters with changing espresso to steam, but it didn't work. Finally I disassembled the machine disassembled flowmeter and everything where water flows, cleaned it, but it was clear. Then I assemled everything and express started work. Succes! I think IT was flowmeter, it was clean inside, but after opening and closing, it had to move smoother.
Hi, the machine has a weakness with the safety valve. You can see the reason for low pressure in my video (ua-cam.com/video/xlGe9cCLxIA/v-deo.html). Fixing this part solves the low pressure issue most of the time.
my problem was i couldnt steam milk after i pull a shot....anyone can help..? the steam just working after 4-5 sec n then it went off..goes back to coffee mode n starts blinking....
Hi everyone, the video is quite old today, but i'm having the same issue with my Dedica EC685M. I tried everything but nothing changed. Короче, кто будет искать поломку : дело в контактах счетчика воды (в датчике холла). В данном видео кофеварка "думает" что нет воды. Не знаю че он тут пиндит 20 минут.
I sure was - I even convinced amazon to send me a replacement unit before sending this one back .. unfortunately I wasn't put in a situation where fixing it myself made any sense but ... I would have bought a new controller board ... they're to be had for 20-30€ did yours also get fucked up during a descaling sequence? and is it also a 1st gen Dedica?
Reply to your video. Probably explaining why replacing the flow meter will help. But doesn't answer why doing cycle with 2 liters of water also helps for some people. So it is still a mystery. (but in my case it didn't help in fact) ua-cam.com/video/9jCgaglR1Jw/v-deo.html
This is one garbage machine. I bought it and in less than a year I have to return it for repair 2 times, each took a month. my main problem was low-pressure pump. the water couldnt pass through the coffee. In summary, pressurized coffee machines are all garbage..
my opinion is that maybe this type of coffee making isn't right for you it's a very involved and complicated way of making coffee, not to mention time consuming if you use coffee that's ground too fine it won't have the power of a 40 000€ cafe-grade unit ... I've used mine for 2 years and outside of that problem am insanely happy with it, everyone agrees I make great coffee with it so ... yeah and apparently it was the flow sensor, which might have seized up because of a chunk of scale having gotten caught in it :: I skipped a descaling cycle or two before that
@@Darieee I was fairly happy about the coffee that delivered. My problem was its reliability. It broke on me twice and a few months after the second repair the brewing pressure was super low and the warranty period was over. Maybe I just had a bad copy. bought a Sage The Barista Pro. sad to hear :( ... mine did have that one problem indeed, and my girlfriend's did leak ... but warranty fixed both our issues and they've been brewing fine for a years now quite a tier up !! how is it ?? how do the shots you pull with it taste compared to the dedica ?

I had the exact same issues. Everything was solved by: 1) resetting the machine to factory defaults and 2) descaling the machine using white vinegar, including rinsing procedure (part of the descaling programme). After that it works great! & No need to buy expensive descaling liquids.
I am going to try this,
@@HDHD-yv9np It's works! I had the same problem and resetting the machine it's works perfect.
@@trinidada6374 descaling fixed my issue
thank you, this worked for me. lesson learnt, if the orange light flashes..dont ignore and descale.
How much white vinegar per water did you put in the tank please?
I have the same coffee machine, but the steamer is not working!! Anu solutions??
Tried descaling ??
My machine isn’t pushing the coffee through and then all 3 lights are flashing twice.
Everyone says Colin's solution works.... But I have gone through all 200 comments and find no comment from anyone called Colin. Where is it? Please help!
Me too. Completed the first part of the Descale but it will not complete the rinse. Has anyone found a shortcut to fix this?
Yours out of warranty, huh?
I expect so. I’ve had it just over a year. Before the descaling I’ve been having quite a few problems with the frother stopping mid action and the lights flashing randomly. However - this time with the descaling - after I went away and left it for awhile I have managed to get it to complete.
I have the same issue. got mine August 2018 then the frothing is not consistently working 😑
Follow the descale process water tunk must filling up 2 times second times water finish just turn water tap off and process done
Gini Mags cr reviews state frother stops & flashes if boiler too hot so cool first by water flow. Then purge water & begin frothing again (button no longer flashes once cooler)
Recently had the same problem with a relatively new EC685.
Solution by Colin Ball (below) worked fine, after much perseverance, and 9 litres.
Where is the solution by Colin Ball ? I didn't see it below. Thanks
Cant see it too.

This helps me thx...
Some people “metaseedslab”here in the reply did this:

Mine does this after a cleaning cycle like yours just starting to flush it with clean water from which it;'s need recovered. I've tried every form of reset but it never goes back to normal operating cycles. No Pre Infusion and short runs on the volumetric shots (4-7 seconds). I can get OK intermittent shots but no consistent and reliable milk frothing. I am looking at ditching the machine as it's so frustrating even though I've invested in 51mm bottomless portafilter, baskets etc so bit sad to loose all this and start again on another machine.
check the comments - especially the hearted ones - someone did come up with a solution
it's probably some flow sensor getting stuck on broken off lime from the descaling
everyone seemed to have quite good results following that method
This happened to me, but I found that the water tank was not firmly in place. Then it worked fine.
So,what happened? How to fix that?
Change motherboard I would assume ...

@@colinball6785 thanks man! I had exactly the same problem and now it's working fine again :)
Hi ;) and what id IT doesnt help;(
I tried the way with holding buttons for 2liters with changing espresso to steam, but it didn't work. Finally I disassembled the machine disassembled flowmeter and everything where water flows, cleaned it, but it was clear. Then I assemled everything and express started work. Succes! I think IT was flowmeter, it was clean inside, but after opening and closing, it had to move smoother.
I have a problem with it, the water does not come out!! So what I can do
Little valve or just descale machine with descaling liquid
Hi, the machine has a weakness with the safety valve. You can see the reason for low pressure in my video (ua-cam.com/video/xlGe9cCLxIA/v-deo.html). Fixing this part solves the low pressure issue most of the time.
I have the same problem exactly
Me too...Did you solve it?
my problem was i couldnt steam milk after i pull a shot....anyone can help..? the steam just working after 4-5 sec n then it went off..goes back to coffee mode n starts blinking....
maybe try a descaling cycle ??
@@Darieee i just bought the machine n only 10-14 times usage so far......
hmmmm
yeah pretty bad .. maybe do send it back if that's not a huge deal
@@Darieee yeah i’ll get it checked from delonghi’s service centre..i thought i could fix it myself first...cheers, mate..🙋🏻♂️🙏🏻☺️
Just got mine and it does the same thing
there are a few comments here talking about the flow sensor - and descaling - let us know if they fix your issue ✨🔥
Hi everyone, the video is quite old today, but i'm having the same issue with my Dedica EC685M. I tried everything but nothing changed. I don't find the "colin's solution" that few people talk about in the comment section. Could someone could tell me what was that solution pls ? Or other solution that could repari the machine. Thanks !

Hi dude
.... Me too... Did you solve it?
Reset to factory settings, that work for me.
how is that done again??
ua-cam.com/video/aBME5bsplUY/v-deo.html
Haha “and the crap I post” lol
Maybe I missed it but do you know what to do when the descale button still blinks after you've descaled it?
mmm, descale again with just regular water should fix it
"fix"
@@Darieee Thanks for replying. I've tried, multiple times now, orange light still blinks🙄Not sure what to do. I still make coffe with it though, lol.
mmm, yeah, firmware doesn't seem SUPER well made
it might be the 'scale sensor' if there is (and there should) be such a thing ...
maybe actually try descaling again, with double concentration descaling solution maybe
were you able to solve it? I have the same problem
I sure was - I even convinced amazon to send me a replacement unit before sending this one back ..
unfortunately I wasn't put in a situation where fixing it myself made any sense but ... I would have bought a new controller board ... they're to be had for 20-30€
did yours also get fucked up during a descaling sequence? and is it also a 1st gen Dedica?
just after setting my coffee machine hola. itd work
By the way. Your english is very good for living in germany. Saw it by the plug and the Siren of the police. Lol
grew up back in Romania tho ✌️
but - very keen observing 🔥
Reply to your video. Probably explaining why replacing the flow meter will help.
But doesn't answer why doing cycle with 2 liters of water also helps for some people. So it is still a mystery. (but in my case it didn't help in fact)
ua-cam.com/video/9jCgaglR1Jw/v-deo.html
This is one garbage machine. I bought it and in less than a year I have to return it for repair 2 times, each took a month. my main problem was low-pressure pump. the water couldnt pass through the coffee. In summary, pressurized coffee machines are all garbage..
my opinion is that maybe this type of coffee making isn't right for you
it's a very involved and complicated way of making coffee, not to mention time consuming
if you use coffee that's ground too fine it won't have the power of a 40 000€ cafe-grade unit ...
I've used mine for 2 years and outside of that problem am insanely happy with it, everyone agrees I make great coffee with it so ... yeah
and apparently it was the flow sensor, which might have seized up because of a chunk of scale having gotten caught in it :: I skipped a descaling cycle or two before that
@@Darieee I was fairly happy about the coffee that delivered. My problem was its reliability. It broke on me twice and a few months after the second repair the brewing pressure was super low and the warranty period was over. Maybe I just had a bad copy. bought a Sage The Barista Pro. So far it is very good
sad to hear :( ... mine did have that one problem indeed, and my girlfriend's did leak ... but warranty fixed both our issues and they've been brewing fine for a years now
quite a tier up !! how is it ??
how do the shots you pull with it taste compared to the dedica ?
@@Darieee the shots are way more creamy and aromatic due to fresh ground. Is like if you open a new pack of pre-ground coffee, for the first few days the coffee is super good but after a week the preground coffee becomes like dust. I suggest you to invest on a grinder if you have not yet. It makes a big difference.
@@Darieee also I always liked to make latte art. Never been able to do it with dedica. But with my new machine is quite easy
There is no problem with machine man whats your peoblem 😎 you need to check manual
You sure 'bout that?
What does the manual I've thrown away say though .. ???
@@Darieee you using device first time just fill up all water and let it go until finish flowmeter gonna count water and pcb gonna start as it should. For descaling, warmer, close automatically, water hardness all this you adjust by indicating of light I have been workin with those machines many years..
Didn't quite understand what you said
Are you sure you watched the entire video ??
I did watch stubborn man so good luck fix your self
I sent it back and amazon sent a new one back ..
If that wasn't undefined behavior, then they reeeaaally fucked up the firmware
Today, new out of the box. This fault AS NEW. Returning to shop for full refund. DOA Dead on Arrival. Shit Brand. I should now buy Breville
Just press it longer as much you wanna out of it. It will reset the standard
