    I’ve had this machine for years and was never able to steam milk correctly with its panarello. All the videos i watched suggested removing it and i did for a while but now after watching you do this amazing cappuccino, i reattached it and voila amazing creamy cup, zero art of course but the consistency and taste is great. Thank you very much 😊

    I wish it was easier to tell from this video what sort of angle and depth the wand / panarello are being held at, relative to the milk and jug. I have a Dedica S Smart with the same wand setup and am struggling to get good microfoam results, so was hoping to be able to learn from this video.

    Thanks so much! Looking at buying a Dedica but the steam arm was the one thing putting me off. Didn’t fancy buying a new steam arm - thankfully don’t have to now!

    Nicely done!! In fact, changing from cappuccino to hot milk setting sort of replicates what many baristas do with proper steam wands, which is keeping them close to the surface and then submerging them once there's the appropriate amount of foam for the drink they're preparing. I quite like the panarello on the dedica! The biggest flaw there to me it's that it mostly requires several seconds to REALLY come up to decent pressure, and not just 2-3 as stated to purge residual water

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  4 роки тому +2

      Yes it achieves the same thing, and the texture I got from this was really quite a wet velvety microfoam, not what I'd expect a panarello to be capable of at all! Cheers

      @assoverteakettle 2 місяці тому

      Same observation. These small consumer appliance espresso machines require really letting the pressure build up and purging the line more than once and more than a few seconds before using the milk steaming wand. The green "ready" light on many home espresso machine is not quite ready yet. When the green ready light is on just purge the water from the milk steaming wand until all the water AND any uneven sputtering is removed (this may take a good 5 to 7 seconds) then let the pressure build up for a couple of minutes again and then purge the line a second time. The difference is totally noticeable where on the second purge the steam is so hot that it is an even hissing sound (no sputtering) and barely any steam vapor is noticeable because really hot pressurized steam vapor is not that visible.

    Ah cool, so you can remove the bit from the end and get good results. The older model Dedicas like mine don't have a cappuccino/hot milk switch on the 'panarello' (TIL a new word...) so I seem to just end up with a big blob of thick, lukewarm foam every time. I'll try the steam pipe for my next coffee!

    • @Coffee_Kev

    Hi, thanks for sharing the method. My problem with my dedica is that the pressure is not consistent. On some days, the pressure is too strong that the milk would spilled and splattered everywhere within seconds.. do you have any tips for this? Thank you 🙏

    • @AltoVenova
      @AltoVenova 2 роки тому +4

      The more water in the tank the stronger the pressure. Just fill the water tank to the max mark everytime you make coffee, you'll get the same pressure.

    Hey, great video! I have the same machine, however, every time I try to steam I usually always get the big bubbles in the milk and extremely inconsistent foam. I've tried adjusting the wand, but still the result is the same. Any tips on how to better that?

    • @AniruddhJoshi
      @AniruddhJoshi 3 роки тому +13

      That means you are adding too much air. Shift the switch to hot milk when you think you have added enough air and tilt the pitcher a bit for milk to start rotating. This should give you creamy texture after some time.

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 роки тому +7

      sorry for the delay, but what Aniruddh said, put it on cappuccino setting just until you've aerated it enough, then switch to hot milk mode. Try leaving it on cappuccino setting just until the jug starts to get warm, I'd guess after about 30/40 seconds depending on the jug and how much milk is in it. Cheers

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 роки тому

      For this price range, given what you've said, I would say the dedica is one of the best choices, you can get decent milk foam either with the panarello wand, or manually by using the steam pipe underneath.

    The think is : can i make more soft foam instead of this watery foam? Because i dont want drawings and stuff like that. I want a normal cappuccino. 1/3 coffee 1/3milk 1/3 foam..

    • @Coffee_Kev

      Sure. This guide is for making more wet foam for third wave milkies. Ill do another video on this, but for more traditional Cappuccino with spoonable foam just go for a more aggressive aeration, break the surface more so you're creating bigger bubbles. Cheers

    better to remove that metall tube and make the right foam in three steps: 1) funnel - load to the depth of 1 cm to create a dunnel but not in the center!. 2) make a foam within 3-5 secs - you need to lower the pitcher down 1 cm - need to hold the bottom of the pitcher until your hand felt stronger warms ( the temperature must be not such a strong but almost it) 3) raise the pitcher by 3 cm for mixing of a foam. You should add some extra milk before, because some of foam will be delaminated and the lowest part will turn into milk. shake the foam all the time while you are pouring into a cup.

      Ensure that you’ve pressed the steam button (far right button) first and let it adjust to steaming temp (flashing to solid light) before turning the steamer on. If you just leave it on the shot setting (left/middle button) and enable the steamer, it will just release hot water.

    • @Coffee_Kev
      @Coffee_Kev  3 роки тому

      You have the E685? So you stop the steaming, and then try to steam again almost straight away? I think what's probably happening is you've stopped steaming, so it's going back to shot temp, and then you're setting it back to steam temp again so it needs to up the temp. What you may want to try is just getting a bigger jug and steaming all the milk you want in one go. Cheers.

    I have bought this model as a replacement for my EC680 which broke after 6 satisfying years of regular use. I could make perfect thick foam using whole milk with the old model but the foamer on this new model is a disappointment. It's just not thick enough. I like it so that I can spoon it of the top and I can form it into peaks like whipped cream. This new model makes too large bubbles that forms only a thin layer on the top of the coffee. Any tips to get that thick foamy texture I am missing?

      Hi. Sorry for the delayed reply. It's a tricky one, the main benefit of going for the Dedica is that it's easy to get a non pressured basket for it, so if you're wanting to go with standard baskets, you may be better with the dedica. The only thing then is that for the price of a new dedica, you can usually get hold of a used pre 2009 gaggia classic, which are a great first home barista machine in my humble opinion. That's how I started, see coffeeblog.co.uk/gcoldmodel
