    My go-to DAT machine is a DA-30 MKII, but there are a lot of changes to that model. I've also repaired a couple of DA-45HR decks recently.
    It would have been interesting to see the FM envelope and the data level stability once you had done the repair, but I quite understand wanting to leave well alone once it was working!

      The 30 mkII is a totally different unit, as is the 40, which you can even put the CD Text on for tapes that were headed for replication.

    Excellent job and glad you tracked down the cause of the popping. I watched the first video and actually posted a question with my DA-30 unit where it is tearing the tape. A lot of TASCAM decks are used by recording studios, performing arts theaters, auditoriums, school districts, television stations, universities, and other facilities. Decks like this are typically not for home use. Looks like a piece of higher end equipment.

      These were professional studio decks. No copy protection. I use a da40 myself which is much better as it supports both speeds and 3 sample rates. This one single speed. I have found a home for it but still have to negioare a price. He wants it for a song.

    • @stphinkle
      @stphinkle 3 роки тому

      @@12voltvids What is ironic about the copy protection on CDs is how easily it can be circumvented today. Most computer CD drives available to home users do not pay any attention to the Serial Copy Management System. CDs can also be ripped an burned with iTunes, Windows Media Player, or other programs. But back then the no copy protection required purchase of professional grade equipment.

    Excellent video dave :-D, it would work, it had no choice lol.
    But what a pain in the butt that was, bloody capacitors yet again!.
    I was thinking about static on the head drum or faulty earthing on one end of the ch1/ch2 screened cables to the preamp module.
    I was thinking vcr faults as the deck has a similar head drum system.
    But no, i was thinking out of my arse :-D
    I hope the camera problem is a bum card or slightly incompatable brand.

      Not an apple fanboy. No Apple products here anymore. I had an ipod3 and was happy. Then they changed the connector and made my expensive dock station speaker system obsolete. They upgraded os that will not run and iTunes won't talk to old os, so I can't update music. None of the streaming apps run becauase they require newer os. Not supported. Sonos is another company i will never own any product from. Another one is tesla. Now you may say, well i can't afford a Tesla. Actually i could. I could walk in and drop cash and buy one today, but it would be the last car I would buy. @@12voltvids I hear you. I do own Apple products, however not their new iMacs or MacBook pro's. The company makes stupid decisions, such as remove all of the important ports, and charge you a premium for dongles. Their prices are outrageous. If Apple was a bakery, they would charge 30 dollars for loaf of bread and say "the dough is an extra 15 dollars". Whats worse, is other company's follow what Apple do. I a Dell XP 13" laptop from 2012, has enough ports on it to do my work. The company I work for has upgraded the laptops to new Dell's, and guess what??? Ports are gone and now I have to lug around a dongle!!! Samsung followed Apple and removed the headphone jack out of the S series phones. It doesn't make sense. And yes I agree with you on Tesla.
