I don’t drink tea, but made some of these to hold spices for things like pickle brine, and soups that I don’t want to fish out bay leaves and other large spices. They are quite handy. Shalom
Thanks for posting things. I've followed you for a while and when ever I come across your stuff it's always perfectly delivered. GOD is good all the time.
I remember watching the original video back when I first found you and binge watched so many video's! I made some teabags shortly after and what I do with the drawstring is I keep it long enough so I can wrap it around the top knob on my teapot! And yep, I'm the one that found a teapot exactly like your beautiful silver one! We have a gas stove, so I use a flipped over small cast iron pan as a deflector. I just used cotton cooking twine. Of course, I really need to get back to drinking tea again.... This is a great remastering of the video! God bless and have a great day - see you tomorrow! (or maybe Patrick....we shall see!)
Thank you Heidi! I did this before too along with cloth filters for the coffee maker. Somewhere in my moves, they disappeared. :/ Because the tea and coffee goes to the compost bin, it would sure be worth re-doing! 👍 Blessings! 💜
I sew the casing and button hole (the part where the draw strung goes) first , then I sew the side seam up to but not over the casing. Next I fold it so the 1 side seam is in the center and opposite of where my “button hole” is ( so they are opposite of each other) I only sew 1 side seam because I use rectangle fabric and not 2 squares. If you do it this way you don’t really need a button hole because where you didn’t sew your casing closed that opening on both sides is where you thread your drawstring in and out it’s like a button hole without making another opening! , then the last thing I sew is the bottom of the bag! By sewing my casing first and side seam second (remember to not sew it’s casing openings shut) and bottom of the bag last , this helps me so everything that is sewn is “flat “! And I never have to sew the casing in a circle because I sewed it first while it was flat. Does that make sense? I just don’t do the button holes anymore! And I do center the only side seam. Only 3 seams! 1.casing 2.side seam 3. Fold in half with side seam in the Center and last sean is the bottom!
Lovely idea. I have bought cotton tea bags, for cooking or tea. Tgey are small! More like a 1 cup measure. Yours are much better for cooking and pots of tea.
Agreed. I also purchased a few with the same result. Especially if using fresh ingredients. The size Heidi made can also be used for seasonings in soups and stews, as another commenter mentioned. I've been using cheesecloth and twine which is cumbersome. Heidi uploads informative videos and this community offers further advice and their own twists to it. I love it ❤
I considered making tea bags, but then i find a metal one online that is a very large cylinder. I used it but even though it can fit through the top of my tea kettle, and with only making 4 cups max, it never fully submerged. So, lesson learned. And i have a lot of cotton...
Definitely could hurt making it rounded. Maybe fold in half and starting at the top of one side, and when you get to the fold, just curve around and follow it and the curve upward and straight up the other side. Then trim it off? Idk what I'm taking about tho since I'm just a beginner in sewing but I'm going to try the rounded edges! Thanks
Why use a tea bag? I let the tea's ingredients flow freely during steaping in the water instead of being confined in a bag. Then, I use a fine mesh strainer after the tea has brewed to remove the tea's ingredients... and yes, using an organic cotton bag is better than using paper that's processed in a ton of chemicals, but who wants cotton lint in their tea? Plus, the water has less contact with the strainer than with the bag... which I believe affects the taste... Plus, you don't have to deal with cleaning the bags. A couple of taps with the strainer and the ingredients are in the compost. Even if you don't have a stainless steel strainer, pouring your tea through your bag, reducing the contact with the water, your tea will taste better. But you do you, but I love not having to wash those bags! 💕🌞🌵😷
Most of the time I do not, especially with fresh herbs, however, with herbs like Mullein, I most definitely do. Try making loose tea with it at some time and see what you think
Where do any of you get your loose leaf tea from? I'd like to try getting it in bulk, and trusting what I'm getting. Other's opinions would be a great guide. Thank you
If I am not already growing and dehydrating, I buy herbs in bulk from Azure Standard: www.azurestandard.com/?a_aid=PXIIzcRQhW and if they do not have it, I go with Frontier Co Op: amzn.to/4diqUeZ
That is cool but I do not have or want one so this is a good option when using herbs like mullein where you do not want the tiny hairs that irritate the throat in the tea, that is the only thing I use them for now (remember, this is a remastered video from 2016 or so)

Shalom..
I'd put the seam for the draw string on the outside, thinking it might make emptying the bag easier.
smart!
I love this idea. There is no much you can do with tea towels.
Doing mine with a button hole with the attachment before I start stitching mine. Box of 10 made for a lady (custom craft order).😊

Thank you. Yesterday I was thinking about making some and sending them to my daughter in Oregon. I’m going to send her something’s for tea!!

Yes, I'm going to use my cooking twine, too. Thank you!
What a great idea to use cast iron to deflect the heat. Ingenious
What a nice idea Heidi! another great video teaching someone how to make their own tea bags. Great video!
You never seize to amaze me Heidi ❤

Great tutorial. I’ve just started drinking loose leaf tea and growing the herbs. Thank you I’m going to be making these ❤
Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼

Good job
Hi Heidi
I like to make these as well.
Lovely. Sadly I never learned how to sew.... Or have sewing machine.
🇦🇺Thanks, great Christmas idea.

True... Its like taking off wet denim jeans..
❤
Love this. But I would fold the top and bottom and sew them before I fold them in half and sew😂
😀
Good video, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !

possibly

Could make a small button hole first then hem. Question: do you think you could use ribbon for the tie?
Yes on the hole first as many have pointed out so apparently I am a lame brain but I would not recommend just any ribbon as most are made from plastic

Try starwest botanicals , mountain rose herbs.
