They are three of the most familiar words and letters in almost any language, synonymous with hatred, intimidation and murder. Written and hosted by Colin D. Heaton. When I was eight or nine I saw a story of the KKK on the news. Their costumes scared the life out of me. Lost sleep and had nightmares when, after days of being scared I talked to my mother in the kitchen.
My mother, who grew up in Mississippi in the 50's and 60's sat me down and said, "There's nothing to be scared of, they're not after you."
Then she went on to explain who they hate and who they're after, so to speak. She then explained that my fear towards them was great to have as a white kid in America. She said to take that fear and disrespect towards them and pass on love and peace to everyone around you, no matter their background.
All in all it was honestly a great learning experience for me that has only grew into who I am now.
Peace and love will always beat fear and hatred. Nuff said.

You try to tell young Americans of the sickening medical experiments the Germans inflicted on Jews, and they call you nuts. They go crazy when you try to tell them the truth about FDR being a Jew-hating racist. The Japanese also inflicted horrible medical experiments on people. They tied men and women to posts and cut their breast and sex organs off. There was a camera there. It was recorded. They also used men for bayonet practice. Many decades ago, when I was young, my Grandfather, who grew up in Stone County Arkansas told me a story about one night when he was a young boy. He told me that on that night his brother and he saw a bunch of men on horses wearing white sheets riding past the farm where he lived and on down the road. Being boys and naturally inquisitive they followed the group of horsemen and arrived at a neighbor's house. The men in sheets got off their horses, broke into the house and drug out a white man who they tied to a tree and horsewhipped. The group told that white man that if he hurt his children again they would come back again. The white father had beaten his children so bad that he broke his son's arm. The group in white sheets untied the whipped man and left. The father never beat the kids again.
What Grandad always thought was funny is that those men in white sheets to hide their identity rode horses and everyone knew who owned which horse.
Not every single person in the Clan was totally evil but today they have been re-defined that way.

The Birth of a Nation was considered the first real full-length movie, and for many years was shown in filmography classes, as it used techniques and styles of filming ad scripting that are used even today. The Klan, up to the 1980's, still showed the film to recruit new members. The second incarnation of the Klan was rabidly anti-immigrant and as such anti- Catholic. My mother was a child in Indiana when the Klan had its massive rallies, and living in a German speaking Catholic community, lived in fear of them. Townsfolk would camp outside the cemetery, as there were threats that graves would be despoiled. The New York Klanbake, 1924, is infamous for the young FDR pushing for Alfred E. Smith for the Democrat candidate for President. The KKK opposed him, as he was Catholic. The Democrat leadership caved under the threat of losing all the Southern states in the election. Supposedly, as the Democrat leaders left the meeting, D.C. Stevens told them; "This time we're telling who you aren't running. Next time we'll be telling you who you are running."

The reason the Klan became widespread at that time was because of the influx of Roman Catholic immigrants in the early 20th Century. They didn’t have to spend much time on propagandizing on the race issue because a large proportion of the people already agreed with them on the issue of segregation and racial discrimination. The Progressives did a good job of convincing people that the old Southern Democrat race ideology had a scientific basis.
I believe the reason you see white Americans begin to repent of this abhorrent ideology after WWII is because they saw where racial supremacy beliefs can lead to in Germany and Japan. People began to see the injustice and massive hypocrisy that was occurring in their own communities.

    1924 Klanbake
    1924 Democratic Convention.
At the 1924 Democratic National Convention, the big fight was over a resolution denouncing the Klan; party elder statesman and three-time presidential nominee William Jennings Bryan, spoke for two hours in opposition to the plank condemning the Klan by name. After furious debate, the resolution failed by a vote of 542.85 in favor to 546.15 opposed. The soaring temperatures gave the convention the name, the Klanbake. At its peak in the mid-1920s, the KKK claimed to include about 15% of the nation's eligible voters, approximately 4-5 million people. The Klan split within the Democratic party over cultural issues, especially Prohibition, which facilitated Republican landslides in 1920, 1924 and 1928. A series of scandals rocked the KKK's reputation and the group somewhat faded after the 1924 Democratic National Convention.

    • @johnweber4577
      @johnweber4577 6 місяців тому

The Klan also tried to exert itself over the 1924 Republican presidential nominating convention which the party avoided by not addressing them at all even though the NAACP had asked Calvin Coolidge to disavow them after the hostile takeover of the local Indiana organ by the Ku Klux Klan. His hesitance to do so is the reason that the organization officially severed ties with the Republican Party and paved the way for their alignment with the Democratic Party in the following decade. While Klansmen in the South were generally Democrats, those in the North tended to be Republicans because they were identified with old-stock Protestant Americans and the Democrats were associated with ethnoreligious minority groups immigrating to the country en masse around that time like Catholics and Jews from Southern and Eastern Europe in particular. This is not to pin the blame for bigotry solely on the Republicans or anything, but simply to instead illustrate the considerable amount of nuance to this discussion which usually goes ignored.

@@johnweber4577 have to call ZERO EVIDENCE on Klan / Republican claim - -= - Calvin Coolidge: Calvin Coolidge succeeded Warren G. Harding as president, and he was also claimed by many KKK sources as a member. Even today, Coolidge is reported to have been a lifelong member by multiple websites we aren’t linking to here. This claim stretches credulity, however. Coolidge not only snubbed the KKK’s invitation to address its Washington rally, a short time later he spoke on religious tolerance to a large group of Catholics in Washington. He also replied to an angry protest from a Klansman over a black Congressional candidate with a letter that included, among other things, this passage:
During the war 500,000 colored men and boys were called up under the draft, not one of whom sought to evade it. They took their places wherever assigned in defense of the nation of which they are just as truly citizens as are any others. The suggestion of denying any measure of their full political rights to such a great group of our population as the colored people is one which, however it might be received in some other quarters, could not possibly be permitted by one who feels a responsibility for living up to the traditions and maintaining the principles of the Republican Party.
Our Constitution guarantees equal rights to all our citizens, without discrimination on account of race or color, I have taken my oath to support that Constitution. It is the source of your rights and my rights. I propose to regard it, and administer it, as the source of the rights of all the people, whatever their belief or race. A colored man is precisely as much entitled to submit his candidacy in a party primary, as is any other citizen. The decision must be made by the constituents to whom he offers himself, and by nobody else. < > ATI

The original organization was for self-defense against the excesses of the Union Leagues, which encouraged freed slaves to burn the barns of former Confederates so they couldn't work their farms and pay their taxes, which mean their property could be seized and sold to carpetbaggers and scallywags. When Southerners asked the occupying Union troops to stop these outrages and the federals refused, the Southerners banded together to ride the roads at night and catch barn burners (burning a barn, where a farmer's working animals, tools and seeds were kept, was a capital offense then) and hang them. This is a true story but twisted. Before the Civil Rights Act was signed, the Democratic Party were called DIXIEcrats and once President Johnson signed the Civil
Rights Act, the Dixiecrats were so upset that they fled the party and took over the TODAYS Republican Party. This history lesson is to actually TRICK you all into NOT voting for the party that is actually PROTECTING the progress we've made, NOT roll it back. Do your research and STOP listening to these Historians on the web because they have an agenda. The GOP of TODAY are the Dixiecrats from PRE Civil Rights. I am sure this will be erased because this argument comes up every election cycle to trick us into voting for the very people who are overturning all of our rights UNLESS You are a WHITE ANGLO SAXON PROTESTANT MALE. Look at what the policies are of a political party NOT the person running for the office. The problem with Black people is we are always wanting someone else to care for us and that will NEVER Happen but vote for the party who does NOT want to see you dead or back in slavery. And dont fall for that turning groups of people against the gay folk because that is divide and conquer.

@@FORGOTTENHISTORYCHANNEL ...I always thought the two primary people for the creation of the KKK were Albert Pike and Nathan Bedford Forrest in Tennessee in 1866, with Forrest becoming the 1rst Impireal Wizard. As powerful as Pike was, I don't think much happens without his OK. Furthermore, I believe in 1881 James Garfield was murdered because he was already appointing blacks to his cabinet, and the Democrats had to keep the races divided for their ultimate plan to work. And it's working like a charm today, as if you don't believe the Socialist method, you are a racist who deserves to die.
In 1909, Funded by Keon& Loeb Bank and it's Chairman Jacob Schiff the NAACP was formed by wealthy white bankers and industrialist's who were Democrats and Socialist's. The same ilk that founded the KKK. By controlling both groups, they could more easily keep the races divided. Note...The Schiff's and Rothschilds lived side by side in a duplex in Frankfort in the mid 1700 when they were first starting their banking dynasty. Thus making Schiff their primary operative in America. If you were to look under Rothschild in the Jewish Encyclopedia under Rothschild it will state....Keepers of the Vatican treasures, as they were nothing more than another red herring to blame to keep the focus off the Vatican. They were officially given control of all monies of the international Catholic Church in 1823, but were mere employees of the Vatican. Now back to the NAACP. The only black that was in the NAACP was WEB Dubois, who the made the editor of their news letter in order to put a black face on the NAACP. There wasn't a black president of the NAACP until the 1970's. Dubois was an avowed Socialist, who towards the end of his life became a full fledged Communist and gave up his citizenship and moved to Ghana, Africa and spent the remainder of his life helping to write the Encyclopedia Africana. Dubois and his cohorts were responsible for the murder of Booker T Washington at what was called a Boule meeting in Chicago in 1915, as Washington had a much more positive outlook. He also told lies against another popular black leaded in Marcus Garvey that allowed the government to deport him.
When the Demorat Woodrow Wilson took office in 1913, one of his first actions was to re-segregate the government offices, as by being mostly under the control of Republicans since the Civil War, they had de=segregated them The KKK's biggest boost came when Wilson actually showed the screening o Birth of a Nation in the White House in 1915 and basically made it mandatory for politicians to watch. Harry Truman joined the KKK in Kansa City in 1922, which might help explain the rejuvination of the KKK in the 1950's.
BTW....How much do you know about Jacob Schiff? Would you like to know a little bit? Would you believe it was he, and not Lenin and Trotsky who gave the order to murder Tsar Nicholas II and his family? And ironically he died in 1923, the same year Stalin came to power. Just as they had to get rid of Robbespiere so Napoleon had no rival for power. And BTW....Stalin was not only Catholic, but a Jesuit Priest, the same as the current Pope, who by the way was a bouncer at a night club in his younger days and help lead many Socialist revolutions in South America, and has much blood on his hands.

A small but interesting detail in the downfall of the second Kkan was the conviction of the leader of the group headquartered in Indiana of rape. He took a young employee of his office on a train trip. (allegedly a business excursion) where he assaulted her. She was young, and horrified by the experience. Believing her life was ruined she swallowed cleaning fluid. This began to eat through her stomach and led to her death, short time later after the grand dragon had calmly dumped her off at her parents’ house. They informed the authorities, and he was arrested, tried and given a long jail sentence. The Klan’s pose as guardians of morality had suffered a death blow.

What happened to that young lady was, unfortunately, nothing compared to the outrages perpetrated against our black brothers and sisters(!) for generations. Any man who harms a woman, especially in service of a sick ideology, is beneath contempt and deserving of the most aggressive punishment. But that's the Klan for you.

I walked into my French class with other white students to be surprised by a black French teacher. We were even more surprised to see a black boy student take his place. But tension swept though the classroom when the daughter of the Georgia Grand Dragon walked in. We white students feared an explosion with a black teacher, a new black student (top student) and the daughter of the Grand Dragon. The Grand Dragon was frequently on the news as the KKK was displaying amazing glory, especially as Governor George Maddox was the governor of Georgia. No explosions happened. All students and the teacher were respectful. The black student scored the highest grades (justifiably) and the daughter of the Grand Dragon was second in performance in that French class.

Before you believe things like this, you should do your own research to find out what the truth is. This only presents the part of history that certain people want to be told. I'm not in favor of the KKK by any means, nor am I a racist. I am simply a believer in telling the truth about any part of history, whether you like the real facts or not.

@@davidpiemme2276 if my comment implied that I take what a UA-cam video says as certain truth, then that is a misrepresentation. My point was that some of the channel's videos have brought to light things that I was previously unaware of - that does not mean that I do not vet information from them. Sadly, a lot of people do not take the time to verify information or look for additional context, so I understand where you are coming from.

My late grandfather and his brothers were Klan members in the 1920s, here in deep Southern Illinois. The Klan seems to have had different characteristics even from county to county. In Du Quoin, a town of only a few thousand people, the Klan acted as a sort of vigilante group, something badly needed as that was a very violent era here, and well beyond the capacity of what little police presence we had. I recall my grandfather saying that they particularly dealt with wife-beaters and tavern brawlers. He and his brothers dropped out of the Klan sometime in the 30’s.

The conclusion of the video is remarkable in its bias and innuendo. His closing remark, albeit superficially accurate, pegs the origins of this horrible group on the Dems AS IF that means something other than the showing the deep racist history of our country.
It is a fact that the Democratic Party was the party of the KKK ("was" being the operative word). However, the modern day versions of the Dem and GOP parties have basically flipped positions with respect to many issues, perhaps most notably, race relations.
How else would you account for the passage of the Dem-led Civil Rights Laws of the 1960's? Or any of the progressive legislation in recent decades? These would antithetical to KKK values.
Current day Dems are not the Dems of the 19th and early 20th century -- and today's Grand Ole Party is no longer the party of Lincoln. That is the real memory hole that needs filling.
Related question -- Of the residual members of the KKK today, with which party do you think they align more closely?
      Spoiler- it's not the Dems.
