Which tbh, I already like the show for its slice of life. I don’t see any reason for it to go overarching - besides, we got the Owl House for that. I personally think that Scratch has lived a life on Earth, but it was just probably really traumatizing or harmful that he chooses to ignore it and forget about it. He's said he has no family, meaning that his parents probably wanted nothing to do with him or died when he was young. He may have not been given a name at birth and was somehow dubbed Scratch by others. He may have died in a really traumatic way and lived a really painful past so he chooses to forget what happened. Molly might have asked him about his past off-screen, or she might ask him in the future about his past, and he might just respond with something like "we don't talk about what happened back then". This could also explain why he never referenced his past life because all he remembers is pain and suffering. He doesn't talk about his past friends because he had none. He doesn't talk about what he did for Christmas because he never celebrated it. When he became a ghost, he was probably introduced to more of human celebrations and holidays, and when Molly moved in, he might've forced himself to learn human traditions to fit in. But, again, this is just a theory, and I really love your theory, too. It can kinda be anything at this point, but hopefully we can explore more about Scratch's character in the future.
You know what? That's actually a good theory. I never thought that scratch never had a life on earth. That would make whole lot of sense. I do think that he was not the devil, I mean, come on. I personally don't want scratch to get a body, at least a permanent one. I have a feeling that in one episode, scratch will temporarily get a body, and molly will temporarily become a ghost. Imagine a moment where Molly somehow finds a way in the Ghost World; in such a situation, a few questions pop into my head? 1. How will Molly react to the place? 2. How will the Ghost Council react to seeing the human Scratch has cursed himself to? 3. Will this show follow the same physics Danny Phantom did when it came to humans being in a ghostly world? But most of all, will this put Scratch in danger of ending up in the Flow of Failed Phantoms?
I think the reason why scratch doesn't mention his human life is because his life sucked and there was no joy until he meet molly and her family. And his name! I think he changed his name because he hated it and doesn't want to be reminded about his past life.
I think it’s too early to predict how TGAMM will end considering that it just started a few months back. Although, we can at least predict how season one will end which I think Scratch would reveal his past, or he’ll try to search for it. Either that or he and Molly will confront the ghost council and save Scratch.
The season finale was a twist #1 the chairman gets killed in it #2 molly becomes a ghost #3 we know that humans can leave they're body and it becomes a miserable husk
I love this theory but... I gotta disagree! First, even though Scratch doesn't talk about his life he does state "You know I'm already dead" in episode 3 also there's a big foreshadowing in his tiny house that he was related to a sailor life (maybe he is a retired sailor) this being providen by inumerous sea paintings, a sailor hat and even a painting of scratch with that sailor hat in ep2, Second, I'm sure Molly has already asked (off camera) Scratch about his life or maybe hasn't because she conciders it rude, either way maybe scratch is trying to hide something from her and doesn't tell her anything about his past maybe changing the subject, he does state he is quote "a One name Icon" with this I think that his trust issues aren't ONLY caused by the ghost council,and other ghosts, and that he probably has a really bad relation with his family, either than being an experiment, maybe that's why he was so mean toward the Mcgees at first but now realizing that they actually DO care about him he feels as he belongs to their family. Third, Not ALL ghosts treat Scratch as if being inferior like Ezikiel's sister and Abraham Lincol,sure you can think that it has to do with their personality but if everyone hates him so badly why wouldn't they do the same. Fourth, we can also see that Scratch's trust issues also affect his relation with having friends,which could be caused by how ghost treat him but like- dude COME ON Geoff loves this guy unconditionatly and he still pushes him away (even if in newer episodes where Geoff gets included Scratch actually let's him hug him) which is a kind of a weird behaviour concidering they probably know each other for a longer time and he just accepts Molly right away and just pretends he has nothing to do with Geoff, I think this comes from something in his past rater than being because he never had a life before. I sure hope we get to see how Scratch was as a human and it's fun to imagine his design and how would his life be,If he already knew Geoff and they were actual Best friends etc etc but I think the show will end with "the end of mysery" or something like that. There’s no way Scratch isn’t Todd. Scratch doesn’t remember how he died. Todd behaves like Molly did when she became a Wraith. Dana Snyder voices both Scratch and Todd. Scratch himself says “it’s like he has no soul”. And this may just be a coincidence, but in the book description of a Wraith that Libby pulls up, the drawings of the guy and his soul look a lot like Todd and Scratch. I’m putting all my faith into this theory. Cant wait to see what happens. EDIT: Okay, here’s our Season 2 evidence. Spoilers ahead: - Scratch doesn’t remember ANYTHING about his past life. This could be a side effect of being a wraith too long- possibly decades. - When Darryl became a wraith, Scratch was all for it, encouraging him to do so and telling him about being a ghost. But when Darryl said he wanted to stay a ghost forever, Scratch freaks out and tells him he’s making a rash decision, insisting that it’s not something he wants to do, but can’t exactly think of a reason. Maybe this gut feeling comes from experience, from knowing that being a wraith so long has caused him to forget he was ever alive? - Adia moves away just like Molly did, presumably from the same house. This means scratch was haunting his old friends house, but eventually forgot it was his friend’s and just assumed it was his own. This ties into the wraith memory thing. Anyways, I am VERY certain of this theory now!

I really don't think he would "become a human," as he WAS a human, due to him stating that he's already dead, but I do think that future episodes will have something to do with him reconnecting with his human self in a way. He pushes away all conversations about his old life and he doesn't talk about it, showing an element of disconnection. The description of this show says that Molly and her family "bring him back to life," in a way, and I think that is very telling.
As for more proof, in “Getting the Band(shell) back Together” or “The Greatest Concert Ever” Scratch says, “I’m a one name icon, babyyyyyy!” Humans usually have last names and Scratch apparently doesn’t. This just feeds the (film) theory of Scratch being created by the Ghost Council.
My theory is that Scratch is some sort of imp ghost, sent to Earth to bedevil a town or house and bring misery to the humans there. However, Scratch just has too much humanity, perhaps his creator put too much of a pinch of a soul in that day when making him. But, I like your theory about the show ending with Scratch becoming fully human, it would be a good fitting finale. I do enjoy how the Ghost Council animators have followed the Haunted Mansion ghost theme when drawing them, I can see them taking up residence there when the show ends.

Very interesting theory. While I like the idea of scratch becoming alive I don't think he wasn't alive at one point to begin with. A few pieces of evidence that shows Scratch use to be alive is when Molly calls scratch in Ep.1 when he was taking a bath, he says he's "emotionally naked". Meaning that he use to have a body at one point otherwise he wouldn't be embarrassed about coming out of the bath. He's also mentioned at a time that he's already dead when eating poisonous berries in Ep. 2. Meaning that he had to be alive at one point in order to be dead. In Ep.8 he says "I'd rather die. Again." I think it's safe to say that scratch was alive at one point but the question is what was his previous life like and how did he die? Well this actually brings up my theory on the ghost society. Now from what I gathered in terms of how the ghost society operates is sort of like an afterlife evaluation base on how you lived in your previous life. Ghosts like Howling Harriet and the Ice Princess seemed to have had their life cut short without being fulfilled. This is similar to unfinished business with ghosts as Howling Harriet is missing a part of her body and by the end of the episode she moves onto the afterlife. Same goes for the Ice Princess who regained her love for ice skating and moved on. However, ghost like Scratch or Geoff most likely had no significant life before and Scratch most likely had no family or wasn't remembered by anyone unlike Ezekiel Tugbottom who falsely made up stories about himself despite not doing anything to contribute to the founding of Brighton. Scratch was most likely homeless at one point considering he's seen eating out of trash cans and wild berries in the forest. He must get food from anywhere which is what someone without a home or source of good food would do. He has no social skills and he's avoided by others in the afterlife just like people in society view the homeless. So what do you do with ghosts like this who've lived without a purpose in life? You give them a job in spreading misery throughout a town. There's more to say but I think a video would be better to explain it all as well as what I think is the end goal is for Scratch.
I wanna say sratch was alive but his memory was whipped because even geoff scratch best friend does not talk about life on earth for him or when geoff was around either. So I wanna say the society that ghost live in will sometime reset you the way they want you to be if you do not meet there standers just like erasing scatching memory and maybe even given him a new name and maybe geoff found out and also got a bit of his memory erased. The one thing I am sure of in the short term, while season 1A was a lot about Libby and her development, a lot of Libby focused episodes and such, season 1B is going to be Andrea's turn to have that similar treatment, and by the end of the season she will know about Scratch. We do know that "Don't Gooder" which is part of episode 12 (Feb 19) is a big Andrea episode, it is very likely that "Ice Princess" which is part of episode 11 (Feb 12) is another Andrea episode. Two Andrea plots in back to back episodes, it is starting already. I do think episode 10 is kind of symbolic of Libby and Andrea being two sides of the same coin. Each half is a holiday episode in which one plays a center role and the other doesn't appear at all.

If they do this, I think Scratch the ghost would "die", and get re born. Epilogue having new neighbors move in and have a baby who really likes to eat, and somehow Molly knows that is Scratch. While I doubt they would end the series like that, I think Scratch will still be a ghost at the end, though I could see him being human at some point in the series, anyway if series ends with Scratch as a human, I think it would be with him as a baby with no memories of his past life.

My personal theory is he died from overeating and unhealthy diets, since he literally eats stuff from the garbage… (Which no, probably isn’t just a ghost thing. My guess is that scratch will not turn human, but that he and Molly will stay friends as ghosts will change to trying to make people happy, not miserable, Molly will help scratch spread joy.

Third, Not ALL ghosts treat Scratch as if being inferior like Ezikiel's sister and Abraham Lincol,sure you can think that it has to do with their personality but if everyone hates him so badly why wouldn't they do the same. Fourth, we can also see that Scratch's trust issues also affect his relation with having friends,which could be caused by how ghost treat him but like- dude COME ON Geoff loves this guy unconditionatly and he still pushes him away (even if in newer episodes where Geoff gets included Scratch actually let's him hug him) which is a kind of a weird behaviour concidering they probably know each other for a longer time and he just accepts Molly right away and just pretends he has nothing to do with Geoff, I think this comes from something in his past rater than being because he never had a life before.
I sure hope we get to see how Scratch was as a human and it's fun to imagine his design and how would his life be,If he already knew Geoff and they were actual Best friends etc etc
but I think the show will end with "the end of mysery" or something like that.

There’s no way Scratch isn’t Todd. Scratch doesn’t remember how he died. Todd behaves like Molly did when she became a Wraith. Dana Snyder voices both Scratch and Todd. Scratch himself says “it’s like he has no soul”. And this may just be a coincidence, but in the book description of a Wraith that Libby pulls up, the drawings of the guy and his soul look a lot like Todd and Scratch. I’m putting all my faith into this theory. Cant wait to see what happens.
EDIT: Okay, here’s our Season 2 evidence. Spoilers ahead:
- Scratch doesn’t remember ANYTHING about his past life. This could be a side effect of being a wraith too long- possibly decades.
- When Darryl became a wraith, Scratch was all for it, encouraging him to do so and telling him about being a ghost. But when Darryl said he wanted to stay a ghost forever, Scratch freaks out and tells him he’s making a rash decision, insisting that it’s not something he wants to do, but can’t exactly think of a reason. Maybe this gut feeling comes from experience, from knowing that being a wraith so long has caused him to forget he was ever alive?
- Adia moves away just like Molly did, presumably from the same house. This means scratch was haunting his old friends house, but eventually forgot it was his friend’s and just assumed it was his own. This ties into the wraith memory thing.
Anyways, I am VERY certain of this theory now!

I really don't think he would "become a human," as he WAS a human, due to him stating that he's already dead, but I do think that future episodes will have something to do with him reconnecting with his human self in a way. He pushes away all conversations about his old life and he doesn't talk about it, showing an element of disconnection. The description of this show says that Molly and her family "bring him back to life," in a way, and I think that is very telling.

Fun to see these theories even if the season is finished. Pretty fun to see what people thought prior to the events of the season finale.
My theory is that Scratch is some sort of imp ghost, sent to Earth to bedevil a town or house and bring misery to the humans there. However, Scratch just has too much humanity, perhaps his creator put too much of a pinch of a soul in that day when making him. But, I like your theory about the show ending with Scratch becoming fully human, it would be a good fitting finale. I do enjoy how the Ghost Council animators have followed the Haunted Mansion ghost theme when drawing them, I can see them taking up residence there when the show ends.

Very interesting theory. While I like the idea of scratch becoming alive I don't think he wasn't alive at one point to begin with. A few pieces of evidence that shows Scratch use to be alive is when Molly calls scratch in Ep.1 when he was taking a bath, he says he's "emotionally naked". Meaning that he use to have a body at one point otherwise he wouldn't be embarrassed about coming out of the bath. He's also mentioned at a time that he's already dead when eating poisonous berries in Ep. 2. Meaning that he had to be alive at one point in order to be dead. In Ep.8 he says "I'd rather die. Again." I think it's safe to say that scratch was alive at one point but the question is what was his previous life like and how did he die? Well this actually brings up my theory on the ghost society.
Now from what I gathered in terms of how the ghost society operates is sort of like an afterlife evaluation base on how you lived in your previous life. Ghosts like Howling Harriet and the Ice Princess seemed to have had their life cut short without being fulfilled. This is similar to unfinished business with ghosts as Howling Harriet is missing a part of her body and by the end of the episode she moves onto the afterlife. Same goes for the Ice Princess who regained her love for ice skating and moved on. However, ghost like Scratch or Geoff most likely had no significant life before and Scratch most likely had no family or wasn't remembered by anyone unlike Ezekiel Tugbottom who falsely made up stories about himself despite not doing anything to contribute to the founding of Brighton. Scratch was most likely homeless at one point considering he's seen eating out of trash cans and wild berries in the forest. He must get food from anywhere which is what someone without a home or source of good food would do. He has no social skills and he's avoided by others in the afterlife just like people in society view the homeless. So what do you do with ghosts like this who've lived without a purpose in life? You give them a job in spreading misery throughout a town. There's more to say but I think a video would be better to explain it all as well as what I think is the end goal is for Scratch.

The one thing I am sure of in the short term, while season 1A was a lot about Libby and her development, a lot of Libby focused episodes and such, season 1B is going to be Andrea's turn to have that similar treatment, and by the end of the season she will know about Scratch. We do know that "Don't Gooder" which is part of episode 12 (Feb 19) is a big Andrea episode, it is very likely that "Ice Princess" which is part of episode 11 (Feb 12) is another Andrea episode. Two Andrea plots in back to back episodes, it is starting already. I do think episode 10 is kind of symbolic of Libby and Andrea being two sides of the same coin. Each half is a holiday episode in which one plays a center role and the other doesn't appear at all.

Maybe there’s a thing where if a ghost, while alive, made an huge impact on the world, they remember more of their life.

If they do this, I think Scratch the ghost would "die", and get re born. Epilogue having new neighbors move in and have a baby who really likes to eat, and somehow Molly knows that is Scratch. While I doubt they would end the series like that, I think Scratch will still be a ghost at the end, though I could see him being human at some point in the series, anyway if series ends with Scratch as a human, I think it would be with him as a baby with no memories of his past life.
