Almost 60 foot shots, bare bow, One inch center ring. The whole of the Yellow Spot is 4 or 5 ish inches wide. Any hit in the Yellow, is Great shooting.
think of how easy it would be to have a camera angle that shows this as if you were there watching it instead of just them, then target. them. TARGET. THEMMMM. TARGET!
Not longbows but barebows. A longbow has to have a D shape to both the stave and the strung bow. These bows also have a shelf so they are not shooting around the post. The targets are small compared to longbow targets which are 122cm, their yellow is 20cms wide and longbow score 1,3,5,7,9, if you get the bull its scored as 9 but marked with "X" to sort out ties. These targets are 80cm I think so the yellow is about 12cms. 30yrds is a testing distance as the arrow is still rising from the bow, any difference is draw length or finger tension release can change the trajectory as well. Haukur is using a hybrid recurve eye level stance but with a mediterranean grip. Matthias is using a field archery stance with a mediterranean grip. Both bows look to be at least 50lbs, so it can get tiring towards the end.
They are actually classed as a modern longbow. Traditional longbows also don't have to fit to the "D shape" law (5/8" rule), as that was a Victorian era ideal for english target longbows. But earlier on they were in a wide range of shapes, profiles and such as they were made in relation to the wood, not forcing wood to only work in a specific style
HI, English Longbow Field archer here, Now Maybe I am not seeing things properly or maybe the classification is different in this but, these look like American Flatbows to me. anyone able to clarify? NOTE: this is in no way a dig at this, I am just curious. :)
I know it is kind of confusing to call flat bows or "American longbows" just longbows when the English longbow is the first thing that comes to people's mind from the word longbow. But in competitions the definition of longbow comes from the shape and size of the bow and it's limbs. I believe the minimum length of the bow for adults has to be 62" and it can have a window. The string can only touch the limb from the string groove point and not anywhere else in the limb or it will count as recurve bow. So basically "Longbow" is just a term for certain style of bows.
why nowhere distance is indicated. As a new person to archery its an important for my perception to know from which distance they shoot barebow with no sights. I do not think that they shoot Olympic distance of 70 meters so is that a 30 meters these man shoot at?
Normally indoor rounds are 18m, with some 25m rounds existing. In this case for longbow it was 12m. Longbows with typical target draw weights and those wooden arrows need quite a lot of elevation to shoot Olympic rounds and so wouldn't do well
Who made the bows? How many pounds are they? How far away from the target are they? What kind of arrows? I feel like the announcers could have done a better job here
their many type of longbows. u must be thinking about English longbows. for examples; Japanese longbows (Yumi), Chinese longbows (Chang), Malay longbows (Busur Bulan Sabit), Javanese Longbows (Rajawali/Kiambang) and modern longbows (flatbows) that u see in this video.
ctually they are longbows - whilst they are most likely of an american flatbow style, they also conform to being a longbow, as the criteria for a longbow, is that the string only touches the bow at the limb grooves - unlike a recurve bow that also touches along the limb - hope that helps
I practice on dimes and pennies, I would like to see competitive shoot hit moving targets. And shooting on the move and limited time target shoots. It seems you will find better archers than just standing stationary shooting in controlled environments.
I consistently shoot an apple from 10 meters with bad tillered survival bow and arrows I made myself... Looking at these I am sure it is some beginner level competition after very short training.

People with narcolepsy may feel rested after waking, but then feel very sleepy throughout much of the day. 1:51 ...LOL...SNORE Zzzz .. Alot of Hunters will know about "the Canted Position" for shooting game, (and the Horizontal shooting position) due to the fact that *Vertical Shooting Position* from a Tree Stand or hunting Blind, isn't always an option. When a hunter is Stalking an animal over terrain and debris, having your Bow in the "Canted position" is more manageable than having it vertical position .. It's a bow hunters way, when stalking and stopping to shoot. Haukur, reminds me a modified version of, Japanese Kyudo style of Shooting.
These are "longbow" in name only, they are very modern flatbows. Pretty much any member of an archery club that has 1 year of practice can shoot at least that good. That's a beginner level competition with a big target on a very short distance with light poundage bows. The Olympic level version of this competition has targets that are at 4.5 times the distance they are shooting here.
The camera crew did a great job. 2 good archers having some 'serious' fun. Very nice.

12 meters

Is there an English longbow tournament??
How far away they are from the target.
I think they were both shooting Bucktrail Blackhawks a great bow
How big are the targets and how far away are they?
what distance was this from? supercool

60cm face at 18m and wooden arrows, right?
Hoo are the Speakers ?
вдруг кто знает,что за перчатки они используют,перепробывал много ,но так и не смог найти для себя удобную
I wish I knew the distance and the size of the target face.🤔
Likely 18m on a 40cm target face with wooden bows, wood shaft arrows, feather fletches and glued on points and nocks.
Surely these are Flatbows, not Longbows?

looks like a 60cm target to me, and the distance will either be 18m or 20yds, which are pretty similar.

"That technique is quite interesting, because it looks like he's got narcolepsy" ...I just died laughing

There’s not much to talk about. These are modern “longbows” nothing interesting really.

I like Haukur's technique. Very nice shooting.
Very technical shooting. They're both good archers.
20 yards, 18 meters is a lot harder than you think…
static release vs plucking
Good👍
Lots of 'plucking', still fair play lads!

If this is 13m, sorry but I shoot better than that... outside with wind, let alone inside

Looks like gap shooting might be slightly more effective for this type of target aiming?
Why should they?
Haukur does. Matthias doesn’t. It’s unfair to challenge these two technics.
Dreadful shooting. What are all you people talking about? This is for the gold medal!!!!!
Its not Longbow! FFS
Looks like they're shooting 35lb bows😂
I don’t think these are 150lb draw weight war bows
судя по тому как они натягивают луки их фунтаж не больше 60 точно,интересно почему они не используют защиту левой руки от удара тетивы
I cannot believe these guys are shooting for gold I shoot every day and I know I can shoot better than this with any of my bows
