- This is my latest video..a tribute to the wonderful actress Grayson Hall (may she rest in peace) who portrayed Dr. Julia Hoffman on the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. I've used most of these photos in my other DS tributes..but decided to group them here in a tribute. I hope you enjoy this...please rate and comment if you do! Thank you so much! :)
as a young boy I loved watching Grayson hall and Jonathan frid together, as a 50 year old man, I wish more people could appreciate the chemistry of both of them. but! it's nice knowing there are few people out there like myself, that does.
You're so right there so many couples out there who have Perfect Chemistry on TV in the theater. Thanks to the producers and directors would know how to tap into that.👍👍

I am addicted to Grayson!! She was one of the most magnificent, unique actors to come out of H' wood. She had a odd, compelling quality about her--at once fragile & eerie....Grayson 'steals' every movie she was in--especially Night of the Iguana where she was up against some heavy weights (Burton, Gardner)--& came out on top--you watch HER.. "Don't make me take action, Shannon...!!" DS was fantastic cuz of her. Thank you Baron for this great tribute--if any actor deserves one its Grayson.

@jola251 you got that right. I love her--one of the industry's best actors--quirky and compelling--watchable. She reminds me of deer in headlights--but something is not quite right at the same time....you are INTRIGUED by her--she's unpredictable---that's the sign of a great actor.
An Oscar nominee and an all around great actress. Many credit Barnabas Collins/Jonathan Frid with saving the show, but without Julia/Grayson, that could not have happened. The two were so intertwined.
I just loved her on Dark Shadows. she was by far the best actress on DS I'm sorry she on longer with us
Jonathan Frid's "Barnabas Collins" spent much of his time pursuing Kathryn Leigh Scott's "Maggie Evans/Josette duPres," Alexandra Moltke's "Victoria Winters," Donna Wandrey's "Roxanne Drew," and even Lara Parker's "Angelique Bouchard." Yet it was obvious to fans of the original "Dark Shadows" series that the woman who most loved "Barnabas" and was his loyal friend through thick and thin was Grayson Hall's "Dr, Julia Hoffman," as well "Magda Rakosi" in the 1897 storylines.
Along with Frid, David Selby's "Quentin Collins," and Lara Parker's "Angelique," Grayson Hall completed the quartet of stars who really made "Dark Shadows" the phenomenon it became. In many ways it was Hall's performances which shone through time and again, and made "Dark Shadows" worthwhile viewing.
It is ironic the nominal "star" of "Dark Shadows" was big-screen actress Joan Bennett, because her character of "Elizabeth Collins Stoddard" (and others she portrayed in the various time-traveling storylines) seemed a mere supporting player by comparison with these other four players I mentioned. Of course I realize the logic of casting Miss Bennett, as to have a screen legend given top star billing was a strategy for drawing viewers to the series, at least initially. But once Jonathan Frid and Grayson Hall showed up in "Collinsport," the dynamics of that daytime drama changed palpably, and for the better.
I have also seen Miss Hall's excellent Academy Award-nominated performance in "Night of the Iguana," and a few episodes from her final soap opera role ("Euphemia," such a "Dark Shadows"-like character name) in "One Life to Live, I hope to watch whatever other film and television performances of Miss Hall's I am able to obtain. She is certainy an excellent and under-appreciated actress, whose talents rank right up there with those of Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn, Agnes Moorehead, Anne Baxter, and Geraldine Page, among the finest actresses of film and stage.
@gymnastics I totally agree with you. Probably Mrs. Bennet was a better well known star at the time of the casting, but I found her performance the same in general, with different period costumes LOL! I loved as well the chemistty and deep friendship between Barnabas and Julia Hoffman. She indeed was a very gifted actress.

Thank you. I am rewatching the original series and forgot how wonderful and unique Grayson Hall was. Her hesitant way of speaking was so interesting. Dark Shadows would not have been as much fun without her!
You're right Jeanette Julia's hesitant expression is telling me she just keeps processing and processing what she just witnessed or heard. I like those hesitations very much take care StayWell and safe

Sorry to see her smoking - she was only 63 when she passed away - I was very fond of her in the original 1965 version of "That Darn Cat" - she was perfect as the terrified bank teller

I was just beginning to wonder if she ever smiled ... until the 3rd and 2nd to last shots, oh and she seemed fond of Jonathan. Nice tribute. Some obscure and really sweet pics.
This is an absolutely beautiful Grayson tribute. I had not seen most of the photos, though I've seen some because of publications I've ordered and also bought at a past DS convention in the late '90s. I am so sorry that I never got to see she or Jonathan in person. This gave so many beautiful, candid glimpses into the actors' lives behind the scenes, as well as great shots of just Grayson, radiating her own light. She was a powerhouse actress, a presence, a force as strong as any supernatural thing that ever appeared on the show. Beautiful and rare, like a bird of paradise. May she Rest Easy.

boy how I loved Julia she Smoked cigarettes my dad smokes like Julia smoked it's so hard for people to try to quit smoking this was a great actress I would have loved to been my age now or go back in time like they did on Dark Shadows to the sixties and meet the cast of Dark Shadows that would have been an awesome time travel way before Back to the Future so many beautiful people and actors and actresses smoke Julia could handle all of them on the show boy she could put Barnabas in his place she was so Regal and classy lots of my friends smoke I wish I could put my arms around all of them and keep anything from happening to them because I love them all we don't always get a alone but I still love them rest in peace Grayson you were a true diva brilliant actress and the way you acted on Dark Shadows I'm sure you were a great lady❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Feel so sad seeing Julia in real life. I am on Episode 1080. 2 years watching DS. It has kept me sane thru this horrible pandemic era. There are so many lessons and moral decisions. What a great story. And what an amazing actress! She loved Barnabus SO much, totally unconditionally. That is what a true best friend is suppose to be. And there are few in a person's life. Her role as Magda is awesome. May you RIP Diva Grayson. Thanks for posting this tribute and video. May DS live forever! 💖🙏🥂

When they discovered her ability to make that awesome terrified scream/moan on Dark Shadows they rightfully milked it for all it was worth. People laughed their a*s off at it and rightfully so. Is her version of Carol Burnett's Tarzan yell.🤣

I haven't seen Night of the Iguana in years and don't remember her being in it. i am going to rewatch it to see her.
