My beagle escaped and run like there's no tomorrow.. But then he stop and look back at me... When he realized that I'm not chasing him.. He came back on his own and hug me.. It's like asking me why?
I will agree with the comments in this video 100%. My beagle is 2 years old, and when he catches the scent of some animal, he goes into tracking mode. If it wasn't for the leash, he would run for hours, and you would never see him again. As the saying goes, he goes "nose blind", where he no longer hears your commands.
I had my beagle rescue from the day he was born which I think helps with the bond he has with our family. But We also stuck with whistle training & he will always return with our whistle blow. We never let him off leash unless it is a fenced park or if it is our friend's 5 acre farm. He is really good with sticking close & checking in. I am would like to think we could trust him off all the time, but he is a beagle & it is not worth the risk!
My Beagle was trained at the beginning with a leash of 30m and with his preferred and heavily smelling goodies and so step by step he learned to follow also on long distances to come back on call. Of course for 95% the rest of that is still risky especially in winter time on snow when he finds a rathe new track than from time to time he run away but after some minuts of running arround headless he always come back. He loves me :D Inside the city I never can go off leash. Thanks for your great channel. Take care and go ahead.
My Ollie walks off leash. He’s gotten a lot better since I’ve been investing in him during the entire pandemic. He still gets distracted he isn’t perfect but he’s come a long way to where for the most part I trust him off leash :)
I've developed a great relationship with my beagle he walks off leash all the time. It's all about consistency and showing them you don't like it when they run away.
I kinda can’t just try that if he runs away there’s lots of wildlife around that he’s not gonna stop chasing! Or get hit by car I live by the highway for the time being now. Was living in the country but my fuckhead of a roommate was to much to deal with
My Beagle now 8 months old and i could say proudly she could walk off leash! 😍 I know this might be different for each Beagle's personality, but mine is so eager to please - she's such a people pleaser. Its just as easy as let her know that i'm her provider, her friend, her leader, her guardian by always let her sniffing around while walking on leash, always playing and training, and boosted her mental stimulation by giving her many sniffing games. Even when she's in the middle on playing with her Akita bestfriend or in the middle of sniffing around, she always comes to my side when i called her and when i said lets go home she will begin to walk to my house's direction - or to my car's parking location immediatelly 🥰
I have two beagles. A male and a female. When my male beagle sees a squirrel, he goes BALLISTIC. Pulling, howling, you name it. He can wake up an entire neighborhood
I completely agree my beagle has never been off leash we even struggle to get him inside from our back garden 😂 however he does get to run around the local park with a 10 metre long leash, which is still safe and fun for him. Even if he would come back to me I wouldn't dream of letting him off leash I would be too worried about him running away or being hit by a car

I have a little 5 month old beagle and we let her off her leash quite often in a big soccer field and she does fine. It may be that we have an chocolate lab and she is focused on her. we have been careful but it never has seemed to be a problem personally.
We have a 20 month old female beagle. She is a absolute joy. She was a runner. We had to chase her many time. For our sanity and the well-being of Daisy, I purchased a free spirit dog collar. To start with we already had a good training foundation. Sit, stay, come, speak and some leash training. She does not like the harness! First we trained her on the boundaries of our front yard with the shock collar set to a low level. Then short walks with a leash. Heal sit stay. Always sitting before crossing street. All the while learning the boundaries of the side walk. Now she is completely off the leash. Now when the free spirit collar comes out she is ready to go and we never leave home without it. She is one happy well behaved Beagle. She gets a lot of praise from the neighborhood. Because she is a beagle she needs an occasional reminder to listen to commands and the collar is what keeps her safe. I take a head lamp, fanny pack withe a leash poop bags extra batteries and my phone.
I have trained my beagle to be off leash that being said it's only when I'm with him. I also do not live near any roads and I'm constantly watching him. That being said I have two other beagles that I do not trust off leash I'm working on training them now but it took me years to get my beagle to where he's at. I would also say that it's 100% necessary to have they fixed dog if you were going to try off leashing7

When our Beagle was still young she wandered off, but now she is 12 years, she always walks off the leash whenever it save to do so, and listens and obey commands and even handsigns, but it took really a few years before she responded, it really took alot of trust and bonding i tend to believe. But when she smell food, all bets are off and she raises her tail to me, like a human does his middle vinger ;-)
I adopted a 6 month old beagle last year. I have 3+ fenced acres. We walked the perimeter 2x a day for about 3-4 months. Now he knows his land and does not go outside the property.
I’ve let my beagle off the leash only a few times and it resulted in me running all over the place trying to get him back, he’s so well trained in the house and laid back but when you take them outside they turn into a different animal 😂 i bring treats out with me when we walk and he still ignores them which I find baffling due to how greedy he is

Strengthen your bond. Let him know you are his provider, his leader, his friend, his protector. One time my Beagle indeed run away when she spotted a stray cat when she's 3 or 4 months old (she always wants to be friend with a cat 😅), i chased her and fortunatelly she wasn't go so far. Since then i changed my method - i've never again chasing her and i let her know how important "me and my house" for her (by always consistent let her walking and sniffing (let her do whatever she wants - even when she wants to approaching some stray cats), playing more fun than all of her dog's friends and training, also providing lot of mind sniffing games). I just let her know that she's free to be her happy-self if she follows my rules. My Beagle is 8 months old now and she could walking off leash even with so many distractions (stray cats, kids, people) and she always running back to my side whenever i called her.
I occasionally let him off the lead in woodland areas and although he rarely returns when called he will stop when I need to put it back on. My biggest worry is other dog walkers, if there is another dog near then nothing will stop him running to find it
My 4 year old Beagle is off leash as long as we are away from the road. If she wonders off more the 50 ft she get worried and comes running back. She spends more time off the leash then on the leash lately
I have two beagles and treat them since they were born. Sometimes I do off leash and they would follow me. But, most of the time, they will run and will surely return home looking for me. In my personal opinion, if anyone pet them from baby and with enough attention (include bathing, scratching, fooding, etc) they can walk off leash and will return to you if they run the scent.
The problem as was pointed out isn't that they wouldn't return. But in areas with cars, they would pay no attention to the dangers and could end up getting killed trying to make his way back to you.
Actually, I think it is possible to off-leash a beagle or any breed. Beagles although are scent dogs are easily trained to do everything that any other breed is capable of doing. Including walking off-leash. I've done it with all my beagles. The reason experts say that it is hard to train beagles to walk off-leash is that they don't teach you the basics of walking a beagle which I explain in this video. ua-cam.com/video/N5CzYl_xG0k/v-deo.html
Many experts had said that actually Beagle is one kind of dog that so eager to please people. This is true because its all depends on how strong the bond that you have with them and what's your meaning for them. I let my Beagle leaned that _she needs me_ because i'm the only one her provider, her protector, her energetic playing friend more than all of her dog's friends and also her leader. That's why when other people said the teenage dog will never listening you, my 8 (almost 9 months old) Beagle always listening to me and always comes back to my side whenever i called her. And yes, she's often walking off leash now.
One important fact this video fails to mention is that the sooner you let your beagle pup off the leash the better. I started taking mine on mini walks in the countryside (3 months old) and I would train recall with him. When dogs are still young their sphere of independence is pretty centered around its owner. And as the dog grows, that sphere expands and dogs tend to be more independent. Recall training is important and yes it's a tough challenge but It is possible
This is one of the many things I wish I'd known raising my dogs. There's a mutual trust that's a lot easier to built when they're young versus when they're older! Doing activities where you're the leader is so important and no one ever talks about it when it comes to raising a pup.
Well, my experience is just the opposite. My beagle is so used to being very close that when I started letting her off the leash at age 4, she never wanted to stray far and it was pretty much effortless. All the rules about recall training and not doing it in cities (or near any roads, IMO) still apply, of course.
I have a hunting beagle, so he goes mostly whitout a leash half a year, here at finland, hare season is that lenght. But one good gps trackingcollar and 4wd car is nessesary.. offseason allways on leash and i allways know, if hare or fox has crossed the road whithin past 24 hours.. 😀
I’ve seen a couple of people leaving their beagle off leash in the beach, they will sit in one place and the beagle will run all around the beach and come back to them at the last.😊
At a park i can leave mine off leash if nobody is around & he'll listen but I have to be aware of who & what's running around or he'll try to chase it & ive had him since he was 8 wks old & spent a lot of time training him. Still wouldn't trust him walking by a road if he smells something he'll wander that way
You should start let him do It.He Will come back cuz It Is his job,you must be Shure there s no streets in 300 meters radius. After that your engaging and trust with him Will increase.Trust me:-)I was like you and I realized i wasted 2 or 3 Years. And my Beagle Is now living his best Life.
There's very little circumstances in which my boy is let off leash. If there are other dogs off leash, and the activities are mainly outdoors, then I'll let him off. As long as there is noise he can orient towards as he's sniffing, I feel better, and he usually wants to check out what everyone's doing, and usually if there's other dogs, he's more interested in play than tracking. Regardless, he very rarely gets off leash outdoors. I love him, but that nose can get him into trouble. For the most part, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
The 3 things I watch consistently with and for my beagle...her habits of nose down, tail up and ears off!! I have to tell like a drill sergeant to get her back!!
my beagle pup of 8 months ran away in heavy rain as his collar came loose. he stood and waited to see if i came. but when i was walking towards him, he ran away even faster. thank god to security gaurd. he caught him before leaving apts grounds. beagles are really smart and escape artists. please dont try stunts. they cannot survive on roads.
I don't let my beagle off the leash. He is too easily distracted. If he smells something interesting, he'll chase it. I had to work quite hard to fence in the back yard -- he used to tunnel under the fence!. But now he has a secure yard, he can go out and run around as much as he likes.
Hey guys, We have a female beagle of 6 months old now. Everything is going fine and by the books but the only concern is if she ever be house trained. We want you to give us some tips regarding potty training and house training. Though we have tried various techniques but she just wants to pee and poop inside the house creating a mess. A video on this topic or your suggestions might help. Thankss. Cheers!
He is growing fast, he needs as much nutrients as possible. Giving him treats can fill his stomach. Instead of using treats, use kibbles from his dog food for training.
I have two beagles. It just my new one has all the features a beagle has. A white in its tail, white paws and legs, floppy ears, colour variations it's just that its face is a like bit different to the other one. It doesnt like ur one my other one is a mirror image of ur one. So is it normal or is it a mix. I purchased it
Had two beagles and there is definitely a risk. When a rabbit jumps up in a field they are gone! Lovely dogs and so friendly but they only have one brain cell and that's in the squidgy bit on the end of their nose!
I will surely make a video on this topic. Until then, First find out the average healthy weigh as per your beagle's height and age:beaglecare.com/beagle-growth-chart/ and here are some ways to lose weight of overweight beagles : beaglecare.com/best-ways-for-beagle-to-lose-weight/
My beagle is not sleeping so easily in the night and waking me up soon in the morning! He is not allowing me to sleep but when he is alone, he is sleeping peacefully. So I've started to leave him alone in the living room tied but I've kept enough water near him ! Is it okay if I do that ?
Yeah this is the only video I 1000% agree with lmao love my beagle but he's also mixed with a coonhound (looong legs!) so his nose is dangerous and he's fast as hell! Hes had me running around the neighborhood on numerous occasions hopping fences and dodging cars lol NOPE never again! I just use a long leash and let him loose in fenced parks.
Yesterday my beagle ran away and while he was walking and a women saw him with her dog she took him to her house and he played with the other dog she went to grab water and my dog went to the neighbors house and they had two dogs and they bit my dog in his legs and the women who went to grab my dog some water her husband went to save my dog he did but the two dogs bit him and he went to the hospital but he’s ok and the two dogs were chihuahua dogs hahahahahahhahahaha but everyone is ok
Beagles are awesome! I love my beagle. But, when it comes to a walk, she has to go hunting, every single time. I cannot let her into the front yard without her going hunting. I walk her off leash, in a city park and with a shock collar that she is trained to respond to. So in essence, she is not really off leash because of the shock collar. And she is stubborn. She can ignore surprisingly high levels of electric shock sometimes. Surely more than I could ignore. However, she runs down pheasants for me when I go hunting. Best dog ever!

im sad because i cant let her go withour a leash bc she will run if she sees a dog. Its dangerous bc she goes straight to traffic. :( ill investigate more
Just walk him around a big open area -- with his leash on! Let him have his head sometimes. And distract him with treats sometimes. He'll eventually learn to like walking with you, even with the leash on. Just start by going somewhere where there aren't other dogs and people around, until he gets the hang of it.
If my beagle Chihuahua gets loose he goes next-door to see his mother and father because when he was growing up I used to take a motorcycle play all day with his mates and he still runs over there if he gets loose which is very seldom
My beagle is 7 years old and weight about 25 pounds. He would gain weight if I did not limit his feeding. I feed him twice a day, and no snacks! His weight is stable. The other thing is, he needs exercise -- a lot of exercise. I walk him twice a day for 30 minutes each.
First and foremost, beagles are dogs. My Beagle who lives with me in a city enjoys walking off the leash. She will trail behind to "sniff" but will catch up and do the thing over again. New dogs and noisy trucks are no problem I just call her if the meeting with another dog gets longer she will come around no matter what.
Just be careful. It looks like sometimes he's in a halter and sometimes has a leash around his neck. Beagles are very prone to neck and back problems and should NEVER be on just a leash connected to his collar around his neck.
Yeah. We put him in halter most of the time. However, we live in a city with heavy traffic and our Groot sometime gets really excited if he catches a new smell. And he has escaped from a halter before, so we keep him in collar when we on the streets.
I wouldn't trust my beagle off of a leash, I know too many experience hunters who have very expensive beagles who have lost them hunting. They find a scent and follow it ( these are well trained beagles) they get too far out tracking a rabbit and lose their way back. Besides mine is too precious to lose, I just don't want to risk it!!!!
My vet told me to brush my beag's teeth every day, or if not, as frequently as possible (several times a week). Gum infections, if left untreated, can possibly spread and become much more serious to your dog's health. Dog dental cleanings at the vet can also be expensive (in part because of needing anesthesia), so brushing your dog's teeth as often as possible (and as best you can) can help buy you some time before having to take him in for the procedure.
Beagles were breed to be hunting dogs. It's easy to train a beagle to follow scent and chase small animals in the wild. Chasing and find the source of scent satisfies their instincts.
@@BeagleCare im familiar with the beagle nose going up, tail going down and they’re gone. I was just wondering how they are trained to hunt off leash and not wander off? (I’ve had 8 beagles over the years, plus 6 other dogs. I never do trust them off leash, but they’ve always wandered home. Usually smelling really bad). love beagles and enjoy your videos.
Beagles are all about their noses. Humans, on the other end of the olfactory spectrum ... well, not so much. So if you can think like a beagle, that will go a long way towards managing them. Beagles off their leash? Not such a great idea in a populated area.
My beagle escaped and run like there's no tomorrow.. But then he stop and look back at me... When he realized that I'm not chasing him.. He came back on his own and hug me.. It's like asking me why?
They do come back, especially if you don't chase, but it is scary when it happens in a dangerous area.
Beagles may be ADORABLE, but they can be mischievous at times! Just one of their perks!
Haha true!

Never. Get distracted easy, follows their nose, doesn’t listen when got called.
But he’s a friendly dog, my beagle 😆
Thank you for the tips keep making these amazing videos
Your welcome. And I am glad you liked it 😊
I have a hunting beagle, so he goes mostly whitout a leash half a year, here at finland, hare season is that lenght. But one good gps trackingcollar and 4wd car is nessesary.. offseason allways on leash and i allways know, if hare or fox has crossed the road whithin past 24 hours.. 😀
I’ve seen a couple of people leaving their beagle off leash in the beach, they will sit in one place and the beagle will run all around the beach and come back to them at the last.😊
This is where we first got brave enough to try it, and it worked great.
@@greenAbbot how old was your beagle when you first tried it?
At a park i can leave mine off leash if nobody is around & he'll listen but I have to be aware of who & what's running around or he'll try to chase it & ive had him since he was 8 wks old & spent a lot of time training him. Still wouldn't trust him walking by a road if he smells something he'll wander that way
I love your videos! Thankyou!
The moment my beagle sees/smells a rabbit, all bets are off. Leash stays on.
Same goes for squirrels, the arch-nemesis of beagles.
Nope never only if you want to wait 3 to 5 hours for him too come back ....
The 3 things I watch consistently with and for my beagle...her habits of nose down, tail up and ears off!! I have to tell like a drill sergeant to get her back!!
Don't take a chance of them getting away from you and getting lost or hurt. Or stolen.
my beagle pup of 8 months ran away in heavy rain as his collar came loose. he stood and waited to see if i came. but when i was walking towards him, he ran away even faster. thank god to security gaurd. he caught him before leaving apts grounds. beagles are really smart and escape artists. please dont try stunts. they cannot survive on roads.
I don't let my beagle off the leash. He is too easily distracted. If he smells something interesting, he'll chase it. I had to work quite hard to fence in the back yard -- he used to tunnel under the fence!. But now he has a secure yard, he can go out and run around as much as he likes.
He wants to go out cuz u don t Walk him as much or as he wants.Or maybe he Is Just young.
Thankss.
Cheers!
we have the same issue ...stubborn as hell and will treat the whole house as her bathroom
One time I put my beagle off leash at the dog park and he didn’t care! He didn’t run of!
I never let her go or she will trouble everybody else
Yes
I have a 40 day old beagle pup can i give him treats to train
If van give him thn what treat do you recommend in India
He is growing fast, he needs as much nutrients as possible. Giving him treats can fill his stomach. Instead of using treats, use kibbles from his dog food for training.
@@BeagleCarewhat is kibbles
Is royal canin ok
Thankies
I have two beagles. It just my new one has all the features a beagle has. A white in its tail, white paws and legs, floppy ears, colour variations it's just that its face is a like bit different to the other one. It doesnt like ur one my other one is a mirror image of ur one. So is it normal or is it a mix. I purchased it
My friend has a pug and it walks with me off leash
Had two beagles and there is definitely a risk. When a rabbit jumps up in a field they are gone! Lovely dogs and so friendly but they only have one brain cell and that's in the squidgy bit on the end of their nose!
That's true.
I think you should release a video on 'The Best Names for a Beagle' and put the names you think are best for a beagle
Hey great idea. But I think it will offend many beagle owners. So lets just say that All the names are awesome.
@@BeagleCare Yes you're right. And btw , Groot for me is an amazing name for beagles. As a diehard fan of Marvel myself, I totally dig that name :)
hey listen, pls pls pls make a video on how to reduce weight of beagles, mine is of 2 years male and is of 16.8 kgs
I will surely make a video on this topic. Until then, First find out the average healthy weigh as per your beagle's height and age:beaglecare.com/beagle-growth-chart/
and here are some ways to lose weight of overweight beagles : beaglecare.com/best-ways-for-beagle-to-lose-weight/
So I actually hunt with my dog and she always comes back to me. Yes you can trust your beagle off leash
Are lemon coloured beagles pure breed ? , pls reply!
Yes they are
Of course.
Yes they definitely are. It's one of the AKC recognized colors of beagle
My beagle is not sleeping so easily in the night and waking me up soon in the morning! He is not allowing me to sleep but when he is alone, he is sleeping peacefully. So I've started to leave him alone in the living room tied but I've kept enough water near him ! Is it okay if I do that ?
Instead of being tied up, maybe get some gates to be able to keep him contained but not tied up.
I have 2 beagles the older 1 I can take off leash at the park the younger 1 I wouldn't trust hed bolt after a squirrel or cat & ignore me
Yeah this is the only video I 1000% agree with lmao love my beagle but he's also mixed with a coonhound (looong legs!) so his nose is dangerous and he's fast as hell! Hes had me running around the neighborhood on numerous occasions hopping fences and dodging cars lol NOPE never again! I just use a long leash and let him loose in fenced parks.
My beagle walk without leash
I just got a Beagle and I want to let him off leash because I feel bad
Indeed , it is impossible walking w/out leash , and when he escapes from any reason , It takes hours to bring him back , he runs lol
Seriously. Groot once managed to escape his harness and it took us 3 hours to find him.
Hahaha!! Sooo true!! But some people say it is possible.
My beagle that's a no no.
Dear, could you please advise me from which age can we start leashing beagle pup. My beagle is of 3 months old and very very naughty.
Start as soon as you can.Walks in the wild are the Key:-)Also a lot of training with food.
Yesterday my beagle ran away and while he was walking and a women saw him with her dog she took him to her house and he played with the other dog she went to grab water and my dog went to the neighbors house and they had two dogs and they bit my dog in his legs and the women who went to grab my dog some water her husband went to save my dog he did but the two dogs bit him and he went to the hospital but he’s ok and the two dogs were chihuahua dogs hahahahahahhahahaha but everyone is ok
if it love you so so sooooooooooooòoòooo much it will not leave you
Beagles are awesome!
:( ill investigate more
No worries I have a 3 month of beagel
I walk my beagle with off leash
It don't run away
I once let him off he jumped on an old lady from who I had to hear a lecture for like a half an hour
Lol
🐕💞💕❤
No,it was a disaster trying to get her 😢
I can’t even make him walk with me with a leash let alone without leash
Just walk him around a big open area -- with his leash on! Let him have his head sometimes. And distract him with treats sometimes. He'll eventually learn to like
walking with you, even with the leash on.
My beagle keeps trapping my chickens...
Heyy... I have a lemon beagle nd he is 8 months old.. Can you please tell me the ideal weight for him. So that he will not be overweight.
adult beagles approximate weight ranges between 12 to 15 kgs 26-33 lbs. Keep him daily exercised and you should be fine
@@Caliburnum Okay.. Thanks..!!
I also have a boy Limon and he is 30lb he is almost 2 years old and he looks great at the weight he is
@@billy-jackzapletal983 Ohh Okayyy
Well that's amazing. Most beagles don't usually have a strong recall command. And often run away if they smell something new.
Don't know what I got myself into 🤦🏻♂️
Why?
leashing your dog -any dog- in public places is just the sane thing to do for many reasons
And he has escaped from a halter before, so we keep him in collar when we on the streets.
who's the voice behind the videos ?
A human
@@bhavanagupta5316 i thought it was the dog who was talking😑😒
I wouldn't trust my beagle off of a leash, I know too many experience hunters who have very expensive beagles who have lost them hunting. They find a scent and follow it ( these are well trained beagles) they get too far out tracking a rabbit and lose their way back. Besides mine is too precious to lose, I just don't want to risk it!!!!
I have a beagle should I brush his teeth every day
Not everyday, you can either you dental sticks or brush his teeth once a week
My vet told me to brush my beag's teeth every day, or if not, as frequently as possible (several times a week). Gum infections, if left untreated, can possibly spread and become much more serious to your dog's health.
Dog dental cleanings at the vet can also be expensive (in part because of needing anesthesia), so brushing your dog's teeth as often as possible (and as best you can) can help buy you some time before having to take him in for the procedure.
@@BeagleBabyBeastie thank you
Lucky gets Dentastix once a day after breakfast. He loves them and he has never had any gum or teeth problems in 10 years.
Just asking for trouble.
Yet people hunt with beagles off leash all the time? Wonder how they train those beagles?
No you can’t
True!
