My father had Parkinson's -- he used a bar similar to this. It was installed right next to his bed, in his very small bedroom. He was a big guy, about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. The bar was a great help.
I got the best price at Home Depot. 2/2023 selling for $170. I love it. I used this video to install - took less than 10 min. Solid as a rock, no screws. * Home Depot calls it Stander Security Pole and Curve Grab Bar, 84- 120 inch Tension-Mounted Transfer Pole in White (it also comes in black).
I take care of a man that needs a grab bar to get in and out of the tub safely - the only problem is we rent a house that frowns on drilling and installing things (yeah, I know) as well as the shower in question is textured so the suction type grab bars won't work. THIS looks fantastic and I will definitely check it out. Thanks for the very clear and concise video.
You could probably take a ceiling tile out if you have a drop ceiling. If the price was less expensive you could afford to buy two of them. It comes in 4 colors. I hope this helps many disabled people. I got hit by a car and there are good days and bad days. Thank you for the demonstration.
Good idea, but i have almost all vaulted ceilings (and higher than 10 feet). I might be able to use this in the bathroom though. I need to take a look. Thanks for the idea.
I just borrowed one of these from a local loan bank. I wish I had found this video before I had to noodle it out! The one I got did not have instructions, but the design was simple enough to figure out. Love your clear instructions on putting it together. You didn’t go over installing that top pin. Is it supposed to be left off?
Hi, I was wondering if the tension against the ceiling will cause damage? You mentioned it is not suitable for drop ceilings or curved ceilings. What about plasterboard ceilings? Would they be strong enough to withstand the tension? Thanks
I’m not super familiar with how a plasterboard ceiling is constructed. You will want something pretty strong directly under the plasterboard to press into. The pole distributes the weight well and has rubber feet to prevent damage.
Drywall is surprisingly strong, as long as you spread the force out, which is the purpose of the H-shaped upper bracket. It's 22" long & ceiling joists are usually 24" on center, so if you can line the ends of the bracket up with the joists in the ceiling, it will be even stronger. And if you're really concerned, put a piece of plywood, about 12 x 28, against the ceiling, above the upper bracket, which will spread the force very effectively. An alternative would be two 28" lengths of 1 x 6. Sandwich carpet scraps or a towel between the bracket & ceiling to avoid scratching the ceiling.
It is about 8" in diameter at the foot. Solid and well built. I used this in the bathroom (tile floor) after two knee replacements - I love it so much, I am leaving it in place. Got the best price at Home Depot.
Does the no drill floor to ceiling grab bar damage the sheet rock ceiling. Do you need to locate a joist in the ceiling to avoid the sheet rock caving in.
It applies pressure between the base and the top and the pressure holds it in place, there are also some holes on the top for screwing into the ceiling, but finding properly faced joists can be a tricky job.
It has a listed weight capacity of 300#’s but I do believe if it would work if you are placing it somewhere with the addition of the screws. I have used it with clients who are obese and it has been very effective. We just make sure it’s very securely fastened.

Good design very useful, i like the way the ceiling top part spreads the load out & the swivel grab bar feature
Great video. Clear, informative and honest.
My wife says im forgetting things& used to be good with directions...Your video is a Godsend..Thanks so much..Be well
Thank you for watching!

You’re welcome! Best of luck!
Thank you, Lindsay, for this very important video!...Will definitely research this product!
You are so welcome!
Thank you again, Lindsay, as an MS patient, just purchased the "Metallic Black" Stander Security Pole from Amazon to be installed beside my sofa bed!
Update: Don't have to activate my "Lifeline" necklace to call for paramedics for assistance to get up from my sofa bed in the morning! Yippee!
Thanks SO much. Made install soooo much easier than instructions in the box
Great presentation, clear and thorough information. Thank you so much.

Awesome video, my wife has MS and this is something i think will help. Also love the albums on wall !
Thanks! I’m an old soul when it comes to music. Classics are best ☺️ Hope this will help you and your wife!
I also have MS. I’m looking into this setup to aid in transferring
My husband has MS, and he used this pole to transfer from the wheelchair to the toilet or shower. I just took it down
@@vadec5909 thank you. Yep I’m not doing well but who does with MS
What about adjusting the height of the handles?
Very thorough and helpful! Thank you!

I have 3 of them. Bought my first one in 2013 - about $300!
That’s great! I love them!
This was a great demonstration. My only question is how well does it work with the base or surface on the floor being carpet?
As long as the carpet isn’t super plush and squishy, it works fine!
Would i be able to use it outside of the bathtub to pull myself up? I'm having a hard time getting out of the tub I'm 5'6" 230 lbs.
It might. The handle piece might not be high enough but the actual pole will be within reach.
Do I have to go buy that wrench you used to tighten it?
What if you have low a ceiling are
there a variety of sizes?

@@BobFankhauser-mf3bp Thank you! awesome suggestions!
Does it work for 9' ceilings
How tall is the grab bar from the floor? It looks like the grab bar can’t be lowered, is this true?
It’s a variable height based on the ceiling height and ranges between 32-52” above the floor.
Do you know the dimensions of the round base? It looks like 8"-10" across?
It is about 8" in diameter at the foot. Solid and well built. I used this in the bathroom (tile floor) after two knee replacements - I love it so much, I am leaving it in place. Got the best price at Home Depot.

I haven't had any trouble because of the distance between the support pieces.
Can this be used for floor to bed transfers for a client who crawls but can pull to stand? Is it sturdy enough?
Yes, you might want to put screws in for maximum stability, but even without the screws, it’s very stable once tightened into place.
@@EquipMeOT thanks!
I wonder if this be used to pull oneself up into a sitting position (in the bed)?
Potentially! There are varieties that have an add-on option of a trapeze for helping with just that.
Thank you 👍
Wonderful!
Many thanks!
Excellent video thank you
You’re welcome!
Great video! I wonder if this would work in a shower?
Yes! I’ve used them for shower safety!
Is it completely adjustable? I have a 91" ceiling which is 7'7"
Yes! It will reach up to 10 foot.
How do you attach to the ceiling?
It applies pressure between the base and the top and the pressure holds it in place, there are also some holes on the top for screwing into the ceiling, but finding properly faced joists can be a tricky job.
Do make sure the ceiling bar is pressing onto a ceiling joist board... rather than between the joists into straight drywall.
Safe to use after THR?
Definitely!
thank you. Just bought one for my husband with PD. $315 Canada. N/A per Amazon, unfortunately
You’re welcome!
I'm in Canada...they are over $264.00.
Seen them on Amazon for cheaper. Keep checking
The ceiling must be solid fixed, not fibrous or lay-in, and the top brace must straddle a ceiling joist.
How do you find a joist? Do you use a stud finder? Or do you need to see the blueprint for the home to see how the run/distance between joist?
I am obese would it be worth it for me when I can afford it? ( not super obese)

Here is the quality women’s that every man struggles to find. Great job my dear! Thanks for the great information.
