This is so great Nate. You look & sound so different I didn't recognize you at first lol. Do you have a video on how to pick a pup out of a litter that's right for you? Temperament & personality etc
The problem with the crate teaching , is that its all good until you actually do leave them in there for 8 hours, then all this reward and happiness is erased relatively quickly.
I've never had any issues crate training any dogs. Here are two crate-training principles to understand: The first guideline for crate-training is that you always want to make the crate a pleasant place for your dog and never a place of punishment, like as a time-out or something of the sort. The second most important guideline is to never put your dog in the crate only when you are leaving the house, or the dog will learn that the crate means that you are leaving, and this can create anxiety and further problems for the crate-training process. Cheers!

I really love how u explain the crate training. The hardest thing I deal with when training people's pet dogs or any dog for that matter, either they humanise the dog and say "oh I'm not locking my dog up in a cage. Thats so mean u need to just let them b a dog." Those r the same ppl that find there he destroyed and everything chewed up and the dog using the bathroom. Then they get mad at the dog and yell at them or worse, when the dog has no idea what the did wrong and think that way is more humane then crate training, giving the puppy structure which sets them up for success, cause u can always watch them out of the crate and teach them to not do those bad things! Then you got the ppl on the other side that think crate training is just shoving the door in a crate and locking the door and then leaving them in the for hours and hours and don't understand why the dog hates the crate. People also don't understand that when I say I crate train and how I use that structure to train other things and house break a puppy or dog, I don't mean to make them live in a cage all day everyday. After I teach them to love the crate I take them out several times a day, to train or when I'm letting them check out the house and explore, I manage them and use that time also to train. When I have a new puppy or any untrained dog, I will probably take them out at least 6 to 10 times a day, just with short 5 min training sessions, but that's because I train sport dogs and service dogs! So I don't expect the everyday pet owner to do that many sessions everyday, but my point is u don't just leave them in there and ignore them all day long. Anyway, your videos r awesome man, even for other trainers like me.
I love your videos and am planning on getting a GSD, Chow or Akita puppy soon. I have experience working with large dogs and training reactive dogs (my dog who’s 25 pounds was VERY reactive when I first got him, to put it lightly. He’s so much better now some of my family members don’t recognize him because of his behavior now) Though I have never actually owned a large dog myself. Anyone have recommendations on things I could be surprised about or supplies I need for a big dog that I wouldn’t need for a smaller one?
Thanks! Much of the training will be the same. You see, the science of dog training is always the same. What varies between each dog is things like intelligence, motivation, and perseverance. For example; some dogs will need more repetitions than others. Some dogs may not be as food motivated. Some dogs will be willing to work until they get the reward, others may give up easier. You have to adjust for each dog, but the science is the same.
@@NateSchoemer thank you so much! I’m looking forward to watch more of your videos. I’m also going to see if I could volunteer/intern at any local trainers near me because your videos have sparked an interest for training in me.
@@NateSchoemer I do SEO and Websites for Dog Trainers so I see a lot of videos and sincerely, this is good... informative, focused, easy to understand and well timed.
The commands are a bit confusing for me, you say: sit, and you are going away. Shouldn't be then: stay, used as a command? And: free, what is it for? Can't find this command useful. Although the dog is enjoying his trenning, looks rather happy.
No problem. When teaching a command it always goes in this order Command (sit), motivate (Physical cue), mark (I use Yes and Free), then reward. Also, I use free as a marker. Meaning, when I say free that means my dog is going to be released and rewarded. It's like a clicker. Just like a click pinpoints a moment in time when the dog is correct, this is what my free does. You can learn more about these here: ua-cam.com/video/naBsieYpLsc/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/DUovsf3OnBU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/hkh4BRqmH7M/v-deo.html You can also learn more about my stay command here, I teach the stay command as an implied command: ua-cam.com/video/s5iD8eN89bo/v-deo.html
@@NateSchoemer Thx for finding time to reply. I understand that for a marker - in your opinion we can use a word of oure personal choice, so unusual. I used to say to my dog after he did his task: bravo, that's a good boy. But it looks like I could just say: bannans with the same result.😁

Here is the group link: facebook.com/groups/NateSchoemers Lastly, if you are unable to get the results that you need using reward-based training techniques, then you may need to use corrections. Remember, everything our dogs do is based on motivation. They are either motivated to access something pleasant or motivated to prevent something unpleasant. Whichever factor is the most motivating will determine the dog's behavior. If you feel you need to add corrections in your training, here are some online resources that will teach you how to do it correctly to maximize your results: Here is a video I put together on adding corrections using either a martingale collar or pinch collar: facebook.com/nathan.schoemer/videos/10213850487672790/ Here is an online course that will teach you how to correctly use a remote training collar: university.leerburg.com/Catalog/viewCourse/cid/100

@@NateSchoemer thank you so much! I’m looking forward to watch more of your videos. I’m also going to see if I could volunteer/intern at any local trainers near me because your videos have sparked an interest for training in me.
Thank you🌹❤, sir🙏
Thank you again! :)
This was great. One of the best to the point, helpful and easy to understand dog training videos I've seen.
Thank you so much!
You can also learn more about my stay command here, I teach the stay command as an implied command: ua-cam.com/video/s5iD8eN89bo/v-deo.html
@@NateSchoemer Thx for finding time to reply. I understand that for a marker - in your opinion we can use a word of oure personal choice, so unusual. I used to say to my dog after he did his task: bravo, that's a good boy. But it looks like I could just say: bannans with the same result.😁
Lol! Exactly. :)
Ty for vidio. Got 10 week old Rottweiler. Wont drop wont leave wont come.not even for food. Done loads of training
I would suggest going through the basic obedience series. For additional support, I would suggest joining my Facebook community. This is a group of people that have studied my training philosophies and principles, and is a location to discuss your dog training goals and endeavors with other like-minded people. To help support the group, I will be doing live Q&A’s every week or so. Here is the group link: facebook.com/groups/NateSchoemers
Lastly, if you are unable to get the results that you need using reward-based training techniques, then you may need to use corrections. Remember, everything our dogs do is based on motivation. They are either motivated to access something pleasant or motivated to prevent something unpleasant. Whichever factor is the most motivating will determine the dog's behavior. If you feel you need to add corrections in your training, here are some online resources that will teach you how to do it correctly to maximize your results:
Here is a video I put together on adding corrections using either a martingale collar or pinch collar: facebook.com/nathan.schoemer/videos/10213850487672790/
Here is an online course that will teach you how to correctly use a remote training collar:

FREE Online Dog Training: One of my biggest goals has been to improve the quality of life for all dogs by educating those who care for them. The best way to accomplish this was to offer my online dog training course free on UA-cam. The basic obedience series is designed to be watched in order. If you want to have a clear understanding of dog training and develop the essential skills needed to train your dog and fix the majority of issues that dog owners face, start with episode one and work your way through. In addition, you’ll discover a greater relationship with your dog, as you now have the tools to better communicate with your furry friend. I believe that improving the lives of dogs, along with their owners, is the most important thing.
