As someone who does kinda like classic levelling and have done 1-60 without dungeons half a dozen times, I do think levevlling for SoD probably should be much quicker so you can focus on the discovering part.
There is no discovering part. It's just classic with bland runes and raids
Nobody is discovering anything.. It's just dataminded and then put into guides and mods.
@@majdan07 While I am disappointed it isn't classic+, I did enjoy looking for runes even if I only found half a dozen by 25. And I'd have been more inclined to try alts to poke at more runes if it wasn't such a chore to level.

To me, the only problem with leveling in SoD is that you're in a hurry. You feel pressure to get there super fast to not miss out on the season. That kinda ruins the leveling experience, as I love vanilla leveling when you can just chill and take your time.
but you're not missing out on the phases? they literally go for 2-2.5 months per and leveling 15 levels even at a slow pace is next to nothing in terms of time dedication. Just enjoy your time imo, the game literally isn't going anywhere, and people are still running BFD to level, as they will with Gnomer.

They doubled XP so feel free to level in peace now. Also, level up raids are easy and fun as long as you are not trying to rat your way in at 25 with whites and greens.

@@ItsYent You can absolutely do it. My point is that you're still feeling pressure when leveling because you feel like you need to go there fast to experience the most of it. It is only there for 3 months and then it's gone forever.

Leveling is by far the best part of SoD to me, and "end game" content is overly dominated by the worst parts of the community. Joining Gnomeregan seems like you need a phd in raiding and able to write out the code for the fight itself in the game engine from what people are asking for to join regular groups. Keep rushing to max level in retail.
Yes, retailers are bringing their Mythic + mindset into SOD doing their "interviews" to get the perfect candidate for a raid that's easy.
Would vastly prefer if there was more open world content and no raid at all. That would instantly drive off the most toxic part of the community.
Joining voice chat and having some pre-Bis is not as hard as you make it out to be. Most of the time it's radio silent people and those 100% in AH greens that get butt hurt over not getting carried. Aside the Bloodmoon event being a mage farm fest, SoD has been great.

Dude, it’s been incredible so far. Tons of players everywhere, and really feels like a unique game again. I’ve been incredibly happy with it so far.

I hated phase 2 at first and stopped playing for 2 weeks. I think my problem was I was getting burnt out trying to play 3 characters (Warlock main with Hunter and Warrior alts). I started playing again last week, dropped the Hunter so im just running 2 characters now and im having alot more fun.
The XP buff and extra gold was a huge reason I came back. The level grind from 25 to 40 with my Warlock was pretty painful before the buff.
@@RealEuropeanPatriot Not really, with 100G you have to spend 40% on your mount at 40. If you have 300G you got quite a lot left after getting your mount. You only really need gold to get mount for main and your alts, anything more than that is excessive.

i played vanilla, regretted not playing classic, idk i am enjoy SoD... I want to experience 40 man raiding content, playing Retail is fine, i main Wotlk atm and am 50/50 about cata since i played a ton of it back in the day, i think the different versions of the game is what makes them fun, that one version is more slow and grindy, i kinda want that in my day to day life of SoD, sure it's not for everyone, but it is what it is
what kills SOD for me, is the "checking logs, bring consumes" etc for gnomer, shit is easy and you dont need consumes. Don't know why people take SOD so seriously lol
that's more of a player made issue than an issue with SoD
BECAUSE it’s easy, people will show up in dogshit gear, terrible talents, grey logs and no consumes or buffs. You have to do your due diligence otherwise roasties will MAKE it hard due to their incompetence

As someone that never played vanilla or classic I came into SoD with 0 expectations and honestly having a good time. It's not the absolute best thing but it's a fun mix of chill classic with just a little bit of retail mixed in. Definitely been fun since I have a group of friends to level and then raid log with. A lot of casual fun, probably wouldn't have had as much if I didn't have a solid group of friends to regularly play it with
i wish it just stayed 10 man also, we have a small guild with a good team of about 15 players , 20 man is gonna be a pain

My point is 10 Mans were F.I.N.E and BFD difficulty was also fine, I dont get if they fired the guy that did the combat mechanics on BFD but Gnomer boss fights feels like they were planned by another team or person completly, like those weird raid wide wipe mechanics nobody asked for those wtf... And now they are moving Up to 20 Mans for seemgly no reasons, like we've got guilds and groups all setup what should we do ...?

I agree for a large part. What I would love to see is puggable 40m raids and 20m MC AND then for each maxlvl phase one additional SoD-only 20m raid that is actually hard, where they specifically say it's not meant to be puggable, it's meant to be stuff for guilds to progress. Not necessarily retail difficulty, but like cata/MoP HC raids definitely. The 40m pug raids then have solid gear and certain chase items (can't wait to get my hands on Anathema on my SP) but the hard 20m raids have the bulk of the banger gear.

But in all seriousness I was looking forward to playing in SoD since i've never played classic wow but as someone who just plays by themselves and no-one really to play with I find levelling gets too tidius and slow and boring and it puts me right off getting to max level.

The meeting editing was flawless good job, regarding leveling I think them adding the exp boost to 100% and adding more money from quests did solve most of the leveling issues but how should they go about it in the start of the next phase is a good question since the zones weren't design to accommodate to all the players starting at the same time leveling, there are what like 2 zones to actually do the leveling one is tanaris dont remeber the other/others so yes probably people will farm zulfarak to their deaths and it is going to suck
I like classic leveling but I had just done it in hardcore and classic era before that so it was a bit too soon for me to cut out the mini endgame and make me keep leveling.
SoD was fun for a bit when a bunch of folks in my friend group/discord were playing and leveling and hunting runes, but then we all just kinda...drifted away. It didn't have that hook because it was still Classic with a thin coat of paint. It wasn't experimental ENOUGH for us.
Loved phase 1 and had a blast going through all the content without looking anything up online. Tried to do something similar in season 2 but the 25-40 grind felt awful, even as someone who really enjoys Classic levelling, I felt like I had to blaze through it in order to raid with my guild so we could all do it without looking anything up.
After going through all that, raid schedules are awkward to plan as the lockouts change each week. Also the content is easy enough to faceroll with friends but challenging enough that random groups struggle to complete it. Part of me wonders if they should have just removed lockouts entirely for the raids so people could do it when they want and not have to worry about getting locked to a worse group. UBRS worked like this back in the day and it was fine.

I quit Sod shortly after Phase 2 launched, but I STILL have a tab open on my browser for the SoD forums because holy shit, those people are crazy. It’s 100% free entertainment, it’s always something new with these people, AND best of all, you’ll come out of a reading session feeling better about yourself. Highly recommend
I enjoyed phase 1 a lot for one month but never resubbed for phase 2. Never look at the forum for additional entertainment though but I bet it is gold :).

Why not make leveling to 40 instant? Honestly it's just a waste of time running around the world, killing stuff, questing etc. etc. We just want to play whatever we want NOW. Let us just make fresh 40s of every class right away and then when P3 comes out let us instantly upgrade them to 50 right?
@@Darksyde1029 I personally get a little enjoyment from leveling super fast. Even if that means I’ll be hitting level 40 and given an epic mount as soon as I finish northshire Abby.

@@KevsShwaShwa It was sarcasm my man. Leveling should stay classic and be an actual commitment that requires you to invest a good amount of time into your character so your choice of what to play actually matters and you can't just reroll to the best fotm class whenever you want.
Sod is easily the best iteration of classic let alone WoW in general. Devs hitting the W button here.

It’s good, and it’s prob the best thing that could’ve happened to Classic, and I hope it stays long term and gets bigger, but balances would be great.
Idk, once you beat gnomer it feels pointless knowing it's seasonal. Eben tho wotlk is a bot fest and cata is meh at least there I know my character progresses. I wish we had a cyclical vanilla to wotlk but sped up, with some additions and fixes like turtle wow classic+. SoD isn't classic plus. Its classic with some retail injected.

Only thing I'd change is: Runes should just be class quests. Druid aquatic form style quest for all the new abilities > some mob drops windfury idol, hope you happened to kill it/looked it up.
It's a good mix depending on the class, but agreed more should be along the lines of class quests.
Rogue has probably the best rune quests since they feel like the og class quests
The game needs a solo path to BIS. Be it professions, questing, grinding drop rates, or a combination of those things and more, there is a huge base of solo players needing a purpose after each phase isn't new. Two weeks after each phase launch guilds go silent until the next phase because the BIS challenge is over. Create a fun path for solo players to get exactly the best gear in the game for each class.
Man I’ve been enjoying SoD a lot. First time the game has felt fresh for me since Legion.
I am personally enjoying SoD, especially since they added the increased experience and 300% increased gold from quests buff. But I do agree that the runes should give a decent chunk of a level because going from 25-40 on my characters I usually just ignore the phase 2 runes until 40 and run around on my mount and collect them all after the fact. I also hate 40 man raiding and would personally prefer just 10 man content for all the raids but I am okay with 20 man.
My only complaint so far is centered around pvp. The runes are a great idea but have boosted player power way out of proportion. Just feels too burst-dominant at the moment. If they added some type of resilience gear or a higher dampening effect or something to nerf the overall power in PvP, that would make the experience more enjoyable. Oh and the lag that comes with the pvp event needs to go too.
As someone that loved PVP back in vanilla I am holding my judgement for max level. It's hard to say anything about low level PVP, game is not balanced around it as some classes are missing game changing abilities. About it being too bursty I kind of agree just waiting for 60 to see if that will change, then Again I remember in vanilla playing my rogue that you could take out level 60 mages with a simple ambush+backstab combo with just blue gear and let's not get started with the POM+Pyro mages and the Ele shamans.
Well my guild dropped this tier of sod because all of us hate gnome astetic and we will wait to play until next tier

I agree with your suggestions, I'd prefer to have the option to do 10-mans at end-game but if it goes past 20-man for the juicy stuff I and my guild will probably just call it quits. I think Phase 2 hasn't managed to capture the same "experimental" feeling that Phase 1 had. They definitely need to reconsider the timing and acquisition of runes for Phase 3 and beyond - Phase 1 has a better balance of new/interesting/early and later/harder/longer, whereas Phase 2 had almost all of the good stuff requiring late level 30s or level 40 to do with minimal fuss.
This is sums up my sod feelings to a T. Excellent vid.

The experience changes that you're recommending I completely agree. I actually think they should take it further and make runes give a full level of EXP or at least 50% of a level and 1-2 levels of rested. Season 1 had me making a bunch of alts trying out different runes on them and casually raiding BFD and season 1 was chill. Season 2 leveling felt like a slog. to keep up with my friends I ended up having to dungeon grind. I didn't even have time to look for runes till I hit the level cap. (The runes were pretty much discovered by the time I hit cap. So I just googled them) Classic leveling was fun from 1-25 because the quests don't require you to go across the world changing zones every 50% just get a level. The EXP and Gold changes they made from 1-39 are great.
Raiding I can't really say as I am not a WoW player. I don't know how it will feel to have 40-man raids as I only played MC in classic once with a pug. However, 10-man felt too small. With the release of Gnomer me and my friends had to respec since in BFD we had a melee-heavy comp as we played what we felt was the most fun. Which sucked for Gnomer where you need range to clear the content. 20 man might fix that I'm not sure.
SoD season 2 felt awful and I believe they didn't do enough to change up the game. The one new raid and a few runes we got felt lame. Especially for me as a rogue. I felt like my class was the most useless class in season 2. All of Rogue's runes were PVP-focused and they didn't add to our PvE gameplay.
PVP is shit don't care what they do with that. I hated STV. Ashenvale was great since it was just a participation event.
Personally I had been hoping for a bit harder content. Not retail myyhic level hard, but harder than what we got. The first time me and my friends went into BFD, we were 5 friends and 5 pugs, we still oneshotted every single boss. Most bosses seemed to just not have enough HP for their mechanics to even playout fully. It just killed my motivation to keep playing. Whats the point of getting better gear so I can oneshot bosses I can already oneshot, just slightly faster. I didn't play phase 2 but was told gnomeregan wasn't much harder.
I get that they're going for more of a chill casual pace where you dont need to grind every day, and there is nothing wrong with that. I just wish they would've added something like a herioc mode.

Mike, i've watched a lot of your content over the years & this might sound really personal but I'm really proud you, mate! You look better now than you ever did before! You look happier & more successful. You've had consistent exposure to multiple mmos, which means better understanding of mmo gameplay & game design. I’ve been having a fantastic time in SoD. The class balance and the lack of things to do outside of raid are the only things that I wish were better. I don’t feel like there is a reason to play rogue or warrior this phase because shaman and hunters do everything they can do better.
What sucks is that it looks like a lot of production went into this video, but little was said - just like Season of Discovery.
I think they should remaster more dungeons and put them into the regular rotation on Retail. I don't want to queue up for specific expansions - just throw everything at me. From doing Wailing Caverns to clearing the wall in Mists of Pandaria.
You should do a whole series of Forum replies in that format.
Sorry if its off topic but what happened to Preach's hair? Last time I saw him he had the implant done and it was going ok growing hair all over his head? Now it seems like his "chosen" hairline got disenchanted like a green item during leveling. Is he okay?

Just to add....I love SOD as it is! it needs more max level content though. I have played wow since late TBC and during DF I was ready to quit. I had 2 weeks sub time left and thought I would fool around on SOD for that old school wow feeling. I AM HOOKED!
Hell, I felt exactly same and did not dare to open mouth because how classic andy's can be. Its just classic again with extra 'FEW' spells. I am fine with them trying that, but it felt a commitment again. Exactly the same reasons and honestly I dont want to be leveling again and again.

This makes me very sad after Aggrand's feedback where he said they're planning on making "leveling more challenging again" because "that's the classic experience". They're actually listening to the "no changes" "not in the spirit of classic!" crowd... 100% agree with preach here.
Agree 100%. Well, 99% maybe.. I would go even harder on the raid size, really want to continue with 10 man... Don't know if we can continue raiding when it requires 20 man, we have our small community now and merges with other guilds feels bad. We will try ofc, but I think we end up pugging some players in the first couple of resets and then let it go. Only pugging for those who stick around. Feels bad, I hope they focus even more on 10 man in p4 and onwards.

SOD is the most fun i have had playing wow since legion, hope they keep adding updates and some new raids or unfinished raids at 60
It's not even close to retail.
It's just a few other abilities, but the gameplay in retail is far more intricate, and frankly more fun when it comes to actual rotations.
my issue with SOD, iis that isnt fun to have only 1 raid to do for each bracket. I mean, the raid items are way too good to justify going for dungeons or wtv for gearing etc making a 1 raid only for months

I think that traveling should be easier. Classic Azeroth is huge. There is a saying. Takes a long time to do anything in classic. 20 seconds to make a nightscape headband. One more thing. So far all classes seem amazing. Except the warrior. Holy he'll this one is painful to lvl.
It's less of a classic+ and more of a retail- with the runes, but the new pve content and pvp ideas are fun.
I enjoy Classic leveling! I actually go out and quest though knowing im not being optimally efficient instead of dungeon spam xD
I agree the emphasis needs to be more on fun. This seasonal mode could lead up to something big in the future. Now is the time to be experimental.
SOD is at that turning point where it needs to shift from “should we change Vanilla” to “how can we best change Vanilla”. The existence of Era servers is a good thing and should persist for catering to the niche audiences of respective expansions.
For the larger audience seeking something fresh, I’d love to see them aim bigger for creating a competitive option to Retail that isn’t just nostalgia-fuel like current Classic is. At the end of the day, SOD isn’t Vanilla or Retail. I’d like to see changes that hold the spirit of Classic, but actually fix the Vanilla jank. For instance, Retail flying mounts would ruin a lot of Vanilla’s focus on the world, but surely we can get better flight paths?
Creating the “OSRS of WoW” would be such a win. I’m hopeful they make that leap in the future as the Classic re-releases start to fall off and people want something fresh again.

classic leveling is slow and thats okay if levelling is the main goal of the game like it was for most people in original vanilla. The problem is that if max level content is the focus then leveling instantly becomes a chore. A hill you gotta climb to get to the good stuff. As long as endgame is way better than levelling it will always feel like crap.

I agree with most you said, bgs should also reward more rep, since this is a seasonal game and nobody got time for 100 wsg wins with a 20 min queue :). Esp if you want to grind out that rep with your alts.
Love then video, but I personally want to make SoD my main game. I don't wanna hop around from one version/game to the next, so I don't agree on a lot of your points. I like Classic leveling personally... in fact, I have done every single quest on multiple characters within 5 levels of my current level, so I had to run around a lot to do all this.... and I had to turn off the xp buff to do it on my 4th 40 in phase 2.
I’ve not liked retail for a long long time. The classic era Wrath I’m very much over it. But, I’m really enjoying SoD. I think they have the timing fine and I can’t think of anything I’d add other than QoL things like summon stones working and things like that as well as a few more GY and FP. SoD is better than the classic vanilla in my opinion. I like the rune process and it really should be what they do in retail, cos retail is so convoluted. I think give Blizzard props where they are due and there are far more pros than cons to SoD.
SOD is the only version of wow classic I ever want to play. No worrying about poison charges, windfury druids, open world pvp, new items to chase, faster leveling etc. It's great.
