I had no idea about this game, but it does look like my type of game. I have kids and don’t really want to spend 50 hrs into a game before I get something out of it. It’s nice to just have something that I can relax and play for an hour or two and feel like I’ve done something.
Facts. Just got it and love that its more focused. So many people have tried crapping on it before even playing it. Been gaming 3yrs now and the community has definitely gotten more toxic since I started
@jacobking7141 have u played deathloop? It's a pretty short game and the way the game works you can have super short sessions. It's not really new but thought it was worth a mention
Same here. I have a hectic job too that sees me working away a fair bit, took me over a year to complete the Witcher 3 and the same with RDR2. The idea of a short game with good progression is something a lot of people want.
@@ur5484 I don't. I've played most of them. Starfield is amazing as it's basically Fallout in space, at getting to use space ships.... so that's the one that I would say it right there with it. But Immortals is amazing. It feels like a mix of Doom Eternal, Borderlands, Bioshock Infinite, and Skyrim.

I like the idea of this game! Probably more a $40 pricetag than full AAA. Still kinda reminds me of Heretic from the 90s. Would LOVE to see a HEXEN remaster, remake, spiritual successor...something.
Been playing Amid Evil, which is an Indy game on Steam on sale right now for 10 bucks and it basically feels like Hexen or Heretic. A lot of the weapons feel straight out of Hexen
I find it weird that a company created a game with a new IP with no store, MTX and "always on" and people are complaining that is should be discounted.
Immortals of Aveum just has a launch date with so many packed games like baldurs gate and starfield around it that it is pretty hard to notice, let alone spend actual money and time playing the game. I really hope it will somehow find some recognition.
It's unfortunate this game appears unoptimized. The requirements were quietly updated and I knew immediately red flag. No linear game should need an RX 5700 XT and R7 3700X for 60FPS. ON LOW SETTINGS. It's not hardware that's out of my reach. I have those specs but 60FPS on low settings makes me think the game will have dips where the FPS drops to 45-50 FPS. Even Hogwarts Legacy wasn't this bad.
I highly recommend picking this game up when it eventually hits like $30-40 around November. It's nice to have something with no stupid online requirement or shop.
It's intriguing because even though mechanically it's like a lot of other shooters it's still "different". Like discovering Borderlands for the first time. "These guns do what?"
I'm having the reverse effect, I feel like I've seen this all before... which is weird because this sounds so unique. It's like the praise that Jake is giving the game does not match when I'm seeing in the video. It looks a bit generic to me.
I'm currently playing this game, and I love it so far. Started it the other day, and I'm already 6 hours into the story. I'm looking forward to finishing this game. The lore and gameplay have drawn me in.

Ive never understood this complaint. A game being longer shouldnt be an issue as a dad. You still cant play all day regardless of whether the game is long or short. Why spend $70 on a shorter game when you can get a longer game for the same price. If you can only play an hour a day you should still choose something more cost effective. That doesnt mean I vouch for the 300 bloatfests that Ubisoft has been making lately
So I may be in the minority here but I have so many 50 hour+ games that I never touch as a dad of two kids because it’s overwhelming. If I get an hour or two to play a night I wanna play something that feels like I accomplished something not spending 2 weeks just to be 10% through a game. I also grew up during a time where most big AAA games were short and sweet. And I miss that sometimes.

I can understand something where you have to explore extreme sized maps and not playing for a week throws off your progress or super long and deep quests with details you need to remember but there are plenty of 40+ hour games that dont have those expectations. Not to say I dont enjoy shorter games either but sometimes I find peoples issues with longer games as parents to be slightly overblown
Just downloaded this last night off game pass and I'm highly pleased with it so far. As a old gamer. This is what I like. Simple fun. Im also engaged with the world and lore of the world. It's very interesting.

Just started this and love it soi far. I really dug the way they introduced the main protagonist,Jack. And the settings are pretty unique and interesting. Fnding the combat pretty snappy. It's like Hexen meets Doom Eternal!
I agree we need more games like this. 10 years ago I was constantly going through different (great) campaigns [Halo, Uncharted, Dead Space,…] The only recent one I remember really enjoying is Doom Eternal.

I don't like fps personally(I suck lol) I prefer my pixelated rpgs. BUT! I do like the sound of magic in fps. I do love me some good fantasy story like in Baldurs Gate 3. Sooo maybe I'l check this one out! Or put it on my radar. So many games coming out in the end of the year that I'm interested in It's crazy(Like Starfield or Mortal Kombat1) Maybe I'll get it on sale when I see it. Love the videos you guys do I always see games I've never thought of playing before!
I appreciate when a studio/writers just give it a go and try something new, or rather something that used to work and was abandoned. Linear, 10-15 hour action games are gaming's bread and butter, and they seem to be coming back.
I'm stoked for this game. But I'm going to be jumping into Armored Core 6 this weekend, and I want to play Baldur's Gate 3, and Sea of Stars, etc., so I have no idea when I'll pick it up and play it.
Will definitely be picking up this game when I can get it for something like 75% off. There are just too many games to play these days and I feel like only a tiny fraction of them are worth paying full price for. My backlog is near endless.
I hadn’t followed this at all but this looks really exciting especially as a nice little self contained experience. I will say that for 70$ 12 hours is a little short. I don’t want it to be an 80 hour game and defeat the purpose of what it’s going for but I’d rather it was either like 40-45$ at this length or was closer twice that, but I’ll still try it when it’s a bit cheaper who knows it could be an incredible 12 hours sort of like Doom 2016 which is right around that same length and is a masterpiece
I agree. $50 for this just like remnant 2 or the new prince of persia coming in January is perfect price for games under 16 hours. Requesting $70 then the game should be at least 20 hours plus.

Not really my type of game, but looks nice. It is a new IP from EA, I believe, and I hope they continue to support new games like these. I hope some people find enjoyment with it, even if it's not for me, it's definitely for someone out there! :)

Ghostwire Tokyo and now this... it will never happen, but a Doctor Strange fps would actually be sick. I know it is probably too much of a risk since triple A devs will probably see it as such.
I saw some people giving negative reviews because of the fact you would unlock abilities later that opened up areas of the game you had already been through, so you had to go back to get to them or see them. Maybe it's because I grew up with games like Metroid Prime, but this feels like a classic style to me. It adds more in depth exploration elements to a game that isn't open world and shows you that no you don't have the powers to do anything you want, but you can get them if you keep playing.
This game is an amazing first example of the new Unreal Engine 5 on console and what we have to look forward towards. On top of that it’s a great game!
You brought it to my attention. I haven't heard much about it. As a father with a career, I don't have a lot of time anymore for games. But I do appreciate the shorter style classic single player action/adventure games as well as the large open world AAA ones. Looks like a fun game I'll pickup on Steam sale at some point after playing Starfield. Hopefully by then the performance will be a little better.
Got this from PS Plus 2024 April essential. Some people say it's alright and some say it's bad, but I absolutely love it. I'm usually a person who prefers story drive 3rd person games, so playing a fast-paced magic fps was a big breath of fresh air, and I'm having a blast.
If nothing else, the devs nailed the “Noun-of-Generic Fantasy Proper Noun” naming convention. Immortals of…whatever it’s called (already forgot), fits perfectly into the lexicon of ambiguous video game naming tropes, alongside Kingdoms of Amalur, Story of Seasons, Tales Of Vesperia, etc.
This doesn’t look bad,imo.If I’m buying something brand new though,it’s Armored Core 6 this Friday. This will be a potential purchase when it’s on sale.
I’m just happy to see more “AA” games out there that we can support to show that we love that as a group. If you don’t love these kinds of games, that’s awesome, I am speaking super generally 😊
It's refreshing to get a back to basics type of game that can be completed in less than 100 hrs & isn't packed with bloat. I will pick it up in a sale as full price for a short game is a steep ask. Should make for a nice stocking stuffer at Christmas in the sales.
I'm hoping for more magic-oriented games. I'd prefer them being 3rd person b/c not very fond of FP view. They can make such realistic shooters, I just want them to make some cool magic-based games.

This game is outright amazing. This is in my top ten for games of the year 2023. I heard so many bad things about it that I refused to get it even though it looked like a fun game. Well, it went on sale for $8 so I grabbed it thinking "at worst, I lose $8". Well, needless to say, I'm more than pleased. It's seriously one of the best games out right now. I haven' finished it yet, but so far, the lore is deep, it's not overly leftist propagandizing like a lot of games do now (though there is a bit), and it has SUCH fun combat. The game feels like a mix of Doom, Bioshock, Harry Potter, and literally any fantasy RPG. And the mix is perfect. You have tons of spells and weapons to upgrade, build, or sell. There's a Metroid like system of unlocking spells the let you retrace your steps to get cool unlocks. And, it's actually a funny game... while also being serious at times. The lead character is a special kind of magic user and he's funny. Like a drop of Borderlands is in there. If you have yet to play this game..... go get it now.

At this point, I will pay more for a 20 hour game than a 100 hour game. A hundred hours of slog is too mush sometimes. But a well crafted experience that ends when it needs to? I value that more these days. I'll be checking this one out.
These type of games are what have kept me playing video games for the last 40+ years, so yeah I get the dinosaur feeling! The whole scene of GAAS is so overwhelming at the moment. Well, at least the games that are "trying" to enter that space is just disheartining. Long live the single player, finish in 20 hours or less, visually stunning, video game!!
I beat the game in 30 hours on the difficulty "Immortal" and that's what i say. If you love Dark messiah of might and magic - buy it. Or if you love funny when it needed, epic when it needed and pretty optimal easy-to-learn-hard-to-master gameplay and rollercoaster story. You'll never get tired of it until you beat it. I completed the main story and killed the six of Rasharn. All that remain is find 15 golden chests and 2 shroudfanes. Pretty wholesome and well optimised experience. Not only as a product that's look good but as allrounded game that good af at every aspect it includes. And it's not sterile at all like many other AAA-games. Immortals of Aveum totally has it's own soul that you can relate to. Strongly recommend to buy

Plaging this now on PSPlus. Of course i had to come back and rewatch the before you buy. Rrally enjoying this game! Wheb i first saw the before you buy i thought the story and characters would have the modern game cringe to it, but was really happy to see it doesn't. The story is compelling and characters are all really well developed and likable. Gameplay was great and like you said, the stright up streamlined traditional action FPS was refreshing. I'm also flauung DD2 right now, and it has gotten really stale after 40 hrs. This was a nice palate cleanser
Good review. Just FYI there are no PC performance issues for most rigs. The problem is the actual CPU specs you need are more steep than expected. I have a solid system with a 3080ti and have zero issues, but if you are skirting the bottom of the requirements, it is rougher. Also, the developers built in a graphics adjustment system that literally shows your GPU and CPU resource as points to spend so you can maximize your optimization by "spending" resources for certain things and downgrading others to save resources. It was actually vert clever. For those who are very used to working with graphic settings, the points you get are on the safe side, so the game should still be smooth if you push the numbers a bit.
This wasn't on my radar, but its definitely going on my buy later list (which is getting larger by the day 😂) getting some guardians vibes, could get lost in traffic of games coming out but I think this studio has a bright future ahead
So, so true on the skill tree. You might've sold me on it on that alone, because I can't remember the last time I played something with a meaningful skill tree. It's always like: "Ohh, so I can take this skill and get +1.5% damage, or this one where I get +1% damage resistance.. I sure do love a leveling system that's basically a streamlined spreadsheet simulator, where you get none of the fun of a true crunchy spreadsheet simulator, but also none of that pesky variety of a creative unique skill tree. This is fun. I'm having fun."
I got the game from my local GameStop for like half off and I think it’s a great game for what it is. It’s level style is similar to 2018 God of War, you’re going thru areas and fighting enemies with puzzles to do as well. For this genre of game it’s level progression isn’t slow either and there’s always room to go above and beyond by going back thru areas you’ve done already after getting the required item or ability
Literally just finished it and I loved it! I'm very glad my predictions on the story weren't true - it seemed to be pulling an Infamous situation regarding the villain, and I spent most of the narrative thinking it would play out that way due to certain dialogue that seemed to be hinting at that. But thankfully it didn't go that way. Trying to be non spoiler here about what I thought would happen.

Remnant 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Starfield, Armored Core 6. This game totally flew under my radar with the crazy release of games lately.

The idea of a 11-12 hour game is great. I think about the length of games all the time as a dad, and husband and this is the perfect amount of time

I’ve been hyped for this game for a minute, it’s honestly so much fun. It’s cool to just play a game. Not worry about a checklist, or feeling like I’m constantly missing something. This is just a fun ass game.

Just started this and love it soi far. I really dug the way they introduced the main protagonist,Jack. And the settings are pretty unique and interesting. Fnding the combat pretty snappy. It's like Hexen meets Doom Eternal!

I don't like fps personally(I suck lol) I prefer my pixelated rpgs. BUT! I do like the sound of magic in fps. I do love me some good fantasy story like in Baldurs Gate 3. Sooo maybe I'l check this one out! Or put it on my radar. So many games coming out in the end of the year that I'm interested in It's crazy(Like Starfield or Mortal Kombat1) Maybe I'll get it on sale when I see it. I appreciate when a studio/writers just give it a go and try something new, or rather something that used to work and was abandoned. Linear, 10-15 hour action games are gaming's bread and butter, and they seem to be coming back.
I'm stoked for this game. But I'm going to be jumping into Armored Core 6 this weekend, and I want to play Baldur's Gate 3, and Sea of Stars, etc., so I have no idea when I'll pick it up and play it.
Will definitely be picking up this game when I can get it for something like 75% off. There are just too many games to play these days and I feel like only a tiny fraction of them are worth paying full price for. My backlog is near endless.
I hadn’t followed this at all but this looks really exciting especially as a nice little self contained experience. I will say that for 70$ 12 hours is a little short. I don’t want it to be an 80 hour game and defeat the purpose of what it’s going for but I’d rather it was either like 40-45$ at this length or was closer twice that, but I’ll still try it when it’s a bit cheaper who knows it could be an incredible 12 hours sort of like Doom 2016 which is right around that same length and is a masterpiece
I agree. $50 for this just like remnant 2 or the new prince of persia coming in January is perfect price for games under 16 hours. Requesting $70 then the game should be at least 20 hours plus.

Not really my type of game, but looks nice. It is a new IP from EA, I believe, and I hope they continue to support new games like these. I hope some people find enjoyment with it, even if it's not for me, it's definitely for someone out there! :)

I saw some people giving negative reviews because of the fact you would unlock abilities later that opened up areas of the game you had already been through, so you had to go back to get to them or see them. Maybe it's because I grew up with games like Metroid Prime, but this feels like a classic style to me. It adds more in depth exploration elements to a game that isn't open world and shows you that no you don't have the powers to do anything you want, but you can get them if you keep playing.

This game is an amazing first example of the new Unreal Engine 5 on console and what we have to look forward towards. On top of that it’s a great game!
You brought it to my attention. I haven't heard much about it. As a father with a career, I don't have a lot of time anymore for games. But I do appreciate the shorter style classic single player action/adventure games as well as the large open world AAA ones. Looks like a fun game I'll pickup on Steam sale at some point after playing Starfield. Hopefully by then the performance will be a little better.

Got this from PS Plus 2024 April essential. Some people say it's alright and some say it's bad, but I absolutely love it. I'm usually a person who prefers story drive 3rd person games, so playing a fast-paced magic fps was a big breath of fresh air, and I'm having a blast.
It kinda sux that "magic" is actually only fake guns:(

Swiped this off of game pass and I’m enjoying it so much. I love that the gameplay is fast and fun. The story is interesting and it looks FANTASTIC!
If nothing else, the devs nailed the “Noun-of-Generic Fantasy Proper Noun” naming convention. Immortals of…whatever it’s called (already forgot), fits perfectly into the lexicon of ambiguous video game naming tropes, alongside Kingdoms of Amalur, Story of Seasons, Tales
Of Vesperia, etc.
This doesn’t look bad,imo.If I’m buying something brand new though,it’s Armored Core 6 this Friday.
This will be a potential purchase when it’s on sale.
I’m just happy to see more “AA” games out there that we can support to show that we love that as a group. If you don’t love these kinds of games, that’s awesome, I am speaking super generally 😊
AA game with a AAA price
It's refreshing to get a back to basics type of game that can be completed in less than 100 hrs & isn't packed with bloat. I will pick it up in a sale as full price for a short game is a steep ask. Should make for a nice stocking stuffer at Christmas in the sales.
I'm hoping for more magic-oriented games. I'd prefer them being 3rd person b/c not very fond of FP view. They can make such realistic shooters, I just want them to make some cool magic-based games.

This game is outright amazing. This is in my top ten for games of the year 2023. I heard so many bad things about it that I refused to get it even though it looked like a fun game. Well, it went on sale for $8 so I grabbed it thinking "at worst, I lose $8". Well, needless to say, I'm more than pleased. It's seriously one of the best games out right now. I haven' finished it yet, but so far, the lore is deep, it's not overly leftist propagandizing like a lot of games do now (though there is a bit), and it has SUCH fun combat. The game feels like a mix of Doom, Bioshock, Harry Potter, and literally any fantasy RPG. And the mix is perfect. You have tons of spells and weapons to upgrade, build, or sell. There's a Metroid like system of unlocking spells the let you retrace your steps to get cool unlocks. And, it's actually a funny game... while also being serious at times. The lead character is a special kind of magic user and he's funny. Like a drop of Borderlands is in there. If you have yet to play this game..... go get it now.

At this point, I will pay more for a 20 hour game than a 100 hour game. A hundred hours of slog is too mush sometimes. But a well crafted experience that ends when it needs to? I value that more these days. I'll be checking this one out.

These type of games are what have kept me playing video games for the last 40+ years, so yeah I get the dinosaur feeling! The whole scene of GAAS is so overwhelming at the moment. Well, at least the games that are "trying" to enter that space is just disheartining. Long live the single player, finish in 20 hours or less, visually stunning, video game!!

I beat the game in 30 hours on the difficulty "Immortal" and that's what i say. If you love Dark messiah of might and magic - buy it. Or if you love funny when it needed, epic when it needed and pretty optimal easy-to-learn-hard-to-master gameplay and rollercoaster story. You'll never get tired of it until you beat it. I completed the main story and killed the six of Rasharn. All that remain is find 15 golden chests and 2 shroudfanes. Pretty wholesome and well optimised experience. Not only as a product that's look good but as allrounded game that good af at every aspect it includes. And it's not sterile at all like many other AAA-games. Immortals of Aveum totally has it's own soul that you can relate to. Strongly recommend to buy

Plaging this now on PSPlus. Of course i had to come back and rewatch the before you buy. Rrally enjoying this game! Wheb i first saw the before you buy i thought the story and characters would have the modern game cringe to it, but was really happy to see it doesn't. The story is compelling and characters are all really well developed and likable. Gameplay was great and like you said, the stright up streamlined traditional action FPS was refreshing. I'm also flauung DD2 right now, and it has gotten really stale after 40 hrs. This was a nice palate cleanser

Good review. Just FYI there are no PC performance issues for most rigs. The problem is the actual CPU specs you need are more steep than expected. I have a solid system with a 3080ti and have zero issues, but if you are skirting the bottom of the requirements, it is rougher. Also, the developers built in a graphics adjustment system that literally shows your GPU and CPU resource as points to spend so you can maximize your optimization by "spending" resources for certain things and downgrading others to save resources. It was actually vert clever. For those who are very used to working with graphic settings, the points you get are on the safe side, so the game should still be smooth if you push the numbers a bit.
This wasn't on my radar, but its definitely going on my buy later list (which is getting larger by the day 😂) getting some guardians vibes, could get lost in traffic of games coming out but I think this studio has a bright future ahead
So, so true on the skill tree. You might've sold me on it on that alone, because I can't remember the last time I played something with a meaningful skill tree. It's always like:
"Ohh, so I can take this skill and get +1.5% damage, or this one where I get +1% damage resistance.. I sure do love a leveling system that's basically a streamlined spreadsheet simulator, where you get none of the fun of a true crunchy spreadsheet simulator, but also none of that pesky variety of a creative unique skill tree. This is fun. I'm having fun."
I got the game from my local GameStop for like half off and I think it’s a great game for what it is. It’s level style is similar to 2018 God of War, you’re going thru areas and fighting enemies with puzzles to do as well. For this genre of game it’s level progression isn’t slow either and there’s always room to go above and beyond by going back thru areas you’ve done already after getting the required item or ability

I'm very glad my predictions on the story weren't true - it seemed to be pulling an Infamous situation regarding the villain, and I spent most of the narrative thinking it would play out that way due to certain dialogue that seemed to be hinting at that. But thankfully it didn't go that way. Trying to be non spoiler here about what I thought would happen.
