    Just came back from Paris and the 6 day Museum Pass was perfect: Louvre, Musee Rodin, the Arc, D'orsay, L'orangerie, Pompidou, Versailles, Sainte Chapelle all at a great pace with seeing the city itself

    There is an elevator in the Arc du Triomphe. My son had injured his knee when we were in Paris several year ago. He could not do the stairs. So I found one of the attendants and ask very politely in French ( probably poor French being an American) explaining he was injured. She was lovely, no problem. Took us to the very old and well hidden elevator. Only big enough for two. I said my daughter and I could take the stairs, but she said no, of course you all use the elevator. The French are the loveliest , kindest people , they just require good manners and the attempt to speak French. Secret elevator😉

    Joséphine Baker became a french citizen in 1937, was a civil allies intelligence agent at the beginning of WW2, then joined the free french airforce in north africa as a military intelligence officer, and participated in Europes liberation on the mediterranean side.
    She was a french war heroes and that's why she is burried in the Panthéon.

    Very ambitious to do 8 museums in two days!! You have more stamina than we do. We opted for the 4 day pass when we visited Paris the first time and it was wonderful. We were able to space out the museum visits so that we didn't feel overwhelmed. It was worth every penny!!
    Your reaction to the green painting was priceless! Thanks for all you do. 💕

    My wife and I visited cloudy and wet Paris this last week for the very first time. Our main inspiration for taking the trip was your excellent videos over the last year. In fact, I think we ran into Antoine’s brother at the Museé Cluny; he was the only French person that started a conversation with us! Well, if it was him, I forgot to mention how accessible you two have made Paris for us, merci beaucoup!

    Nice video and I agree that these passes can be cost effective and convenient. We used one 5 years ago and saw a lot of these main sights. The only regret is that we didn’t make enough time for shopping, cafes and just exploring. We spent too much time going from sight to sight.
    My advice is to consider using the pass but plan accordingly so that you go to places near each other and make time to see the city and enjoy just being there. 🇫🇷 🍷

    "When you thought there were no more stairs..." LOL. Truer words have never been said. The view from the top of the Arc though... completely worth it. We did the Arc during the day and Tour Eiffel at night. I think that gave us the day/night views we wanted to see.
    Museum Pass is such great value. We had a 4-Day pass and we hit a lot of places. Of course, we spent quite a bit of time in Versailles and the Louvre, and half a day at Musee d'Orsay (my wife's favourite), but because the other places are a lot smaller it was easy to see a lot of them with proper planning.

    We took the 4 day Paris pass, wich includes the Paris museum pass and it worked really well for us, we did the Louvre, Versailles, Sainte Chapelle, D'Orsay, Arc, Eiffel Tower guided tour, Pantheon, Les Invalides, also the macarons at Montmartre, a parisian breakfast and a crepe (all of them included in the Paris Pass), tne hop on hop off bus, the Siene tour, the workshop at Fragonard museum, and a walking tour in St Germain de Pres.
    It was worth it, and the 4 days pass is perfect 😊

    a) Possibly worth mentioning: I believe the Centre Pompidou is scheduled to close for possibly lengthy renovations later this year, so see it while you can!
    b) Interesting note about those unicorn tapestries in the Musée Cluny: five of them represent each of the five senses (the lady listens to music, tastes fruit, etc.), while in the sixth, she is either taking jewelry out of a box or putting it back in. The label on the sixth, “À Mon Seul Désir,” would most naturally be translated as “to my sole desire,” but it could also be read as something like “solely at my desire,” i.e., “only when I wish.” In that case she’d be seen as putting the jewelry back in the box, and the sixth picture would thus represent our free will’s mastery over our sensory impulses (as represented by the other five).

  • @sarah-phillips
    @sarah-phillips 10 місяців тому +1

    YES! YES! The Paris Museum Pass is THE BEST! There are a couple spots you need to get a time stamped ticket or wait in line (to go up inside the Arc), but it is SO worth it to NOT wait in massive lines. I just spoke with someone who had been in Paris and they waited 2 hours in line just to get tickets to visit the Louvre. Then waited again to get in. If you had very limited time in Paris and spent so much time waiting in lines just to purchase tickets to get into these places, you would barely see anything. The pass is amazing because it lets you bypass the line in so many places. Or even visit a museum on a whim!
    I can't say enough how great it is you did a video on this.
    Also, Saint Chapelle? The king had recently acquired a relic which was supposedly the real crown of thorns and had the chapel built to house it. Pretty incredible storage facility...

    Another great video. Seeing you at Au Pied du Fouet brought back a fun memory. On a visit in 2019, I was walking from my hotel near Musée Cluny to the Musée Rodin. Before getting to my destination, I wanted to stop for lunch and happened upon the very busy little restaurant with the bright red front. I was shown to a seat at the communal table just below the partitioned box that held the serviettes of the regular patrons. Had a nice conversation - en français - with a teacher from a nearby school. Then on to the house of Rodin, which I had first (and last) visited in 1971.
    After the museum I found myself near the hotel where I had spent my very first night in Paris almost exactly 50 years earlier in 1969 before finding a position as an au pair. Thanks for the memories.

    All my favorites! Only one I didn't make was the Cluny. 6-Day Museum Pass was the bargain of the decade. If I remember correctly, in six days I hit something like 14 museums and other sites, including Versailles. One word of caution: the twisting stairs at Sainte Chappell are narrow, shallow, vertical and a little claustrophobic...but oh so worth the climb. I spent 45 minutes there with my jaw on the floor. Just gorgeous.

    Great Job. You're living my dream. Bought the Paris Pass many times and it's invaluable. Just do your homework. Hours, days closed, nights open; what's close to the next. Beware of strikes, they are noticed though. With a bit of strategy you can see a ton without burning out. One favorite memory is when the driver of the hop-on hop-off bus pulled over at the Place du Trocadéro stop, got out and walked away without any notice...must have been break time. No one came to releive him😅 so, I ventured out. Just riding the loop without getting off gives you a great sense of where everything is and the view is unparalleled. Oh and find the free days and free museums, like Petit Palis and first (Sunday i think) of the month. You can really maximize your savings. ❤ keep 'em coming. Monsuir, one minute you sound American, the next French, at one point Italian...in the flow, love it 😊, You're both adorable.

    Hmm. When you were in the Pantheon, standing at Joséphine Baker's place you made it seem as though she was American. She was born in the U.S. After marrying a Frenchman (not sure of that date, but it was before WWII), she became a French citizen. She then became a French Resistance agent during the war and was in the military. She is in the Pantheon as an outstanding French woman.

    There is an elevator at l’arc de triomphe although very small and I think it’s only for the handicapped. We loved our visit in Paris 10 yrs ago. Would love to go back one day. We also got a museum pass and used it also for bathroom facilities when we needed it restaurants don’t like u to use their facilities unless u r a patron. I wonder why y’all never mention le cemetiere père Lachaise. Saw my ancestors crypt when we were there. Edith Piaf left a legacy and she is buried there also. Thank you for sharing all your trips with us. I drool at every one of them. Merci

    Wonderful video - as in "full of wonders"! I remember a picture of the Centre Pompidou in my first French text book (freshman year in high school, 36 years ago), but I haven't ever heard much about it. Thank you for sharing your visit! And thank you for eating - I was worried. "All these museums and they're not going to eat?" 😄

    We saw your video last week, thinking of buying the museum pass through your link today because we will be visiting Paris next month, only to find out that they no long offer museum pass. All they have is Paris pass and explorer pass, and they are way more expensive

    I was there some years ago, used the pass, and didn't have to stand in the long line to get in. Saved a lot of time, and we loved the museums. I always feel guilty for eating while someone is singing.

    I love Musee d'Orsay.
    It's a train station from the Belle Epoque built in the Art Nuveau style. All the art in there is from the Belle Epoque. even though it doesn't look big from the outside, it's pretty big. Tons of things to see.

    I just found out our last night in Paris will be Bastille Day. Any tips or tricks to help that evening be a fun time and not a crowded nightmare?

      Ech little municipality with have their own celebrating (and often their own fireworks). Check with your hotel for what's going on by where you are staying. The big celebration will be along the Champs Elysses.

      @@LesFrenchiesTravel Oh wonderful!! Thank you for the advice, because I was not looking forward to navigating huge crowds. A smaller neighborhood celebration would be wonderful.

    Just to avoid any confusion (and disappointment), the painting referred to when you said, "Let's go see the starry night" is indeed by Van Gogh and it does depict stars at night, but it is not the world famous and iconic "The Starry Night" painting that most are familiar with. That one is at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Still, the Musée D'Orsay is a fabulous museum and well worth a substantial visit. Thanks for the video!

    I'm headed to Paris in a few weeks and have been binge-watching your videos. Merci! Can you please explain the relationship between the musee pass and the "time-stamp" requirement? Do I still need to plan ahead and book a time-slot for each musee from their website? Does the website ask me if I have a pass? Merci (again!)

    • @LesFrenchiesTravel
      @LesFrenchiesTravel  10 місяців тому

      Thank you for watching. The thing with the time stamp is that some museums are "government owned" and some are more protected monuments and they restrict the number of visitors allowed each day (or crowd control during peak hours). There are a handful that you need to schedule in advance (no additional fee). Others you can just show up and scan your pass. I how that makes sense.

    Ah, that's not a small restaurant! Check out Au Petit Fer a Cheval in the Marais. The tiny horseshoe-shaped bar inside seats maybe 10 people so we stuffed ourselves into one of the 4 little sidewalk tables. Classic bistro food. I adore this place!
