“PARKER! I want pictures of the Absolute, and I want them yesterday!”
could you pay me in advance?
Yessir General Jamison Jr, Sir!
@@TommygunThompsonyou serious? Paying for what? Standing there?
The thing that gets me most about his character is after you kill him you can find an old, crumpled note in his pocket, written by Isabella as a child. It simply says "Daddy I love you LOVE FROM, Iz". 😭😭😭
Damn I never saw this because my group always loot him before I did and they never cared for texts.
that broke me🥲
Never forget that Ketheric Thorm was once a Paladin of Selune. He has broken his oath a hundred years ago, but he has still the mindset of a Paladin: To sacrifice everything for the righteous cause. And his righteous cause happens to be his daughter.
@@TheR6R6R oh no! Without the notes and journals, you're missing like half of the story!
What I love about this game is that I pick-pocketed that note whilst he was in his "private temple". And then straight after there was subtitle stating "someone was in my pockets", no voice line though but I'd like to imagine it means he constantly checks for the note.
"THINK PLAYER THINK, IN MANY YEARS WHEN ALL COMPANIES FAIL YOU WHAT WILL YOU HAVE?" "I'll still have you Larian"
Invincible reference. Love it
Great voice actor
that was the most impactful line in that show imho.
oof.
Why does this feel so real, too? Lol. Games these past few years have been fine at best and trash on average.
Except BG3, which has made me fall in love with gaming again
@@MikesterMF date it back to DOS2, the passion larian put behind that game was amazing. I hope they keep Sven at the helm because the company continues to be solely focused on creating passion projects rather than money grabs.
corpse of Bioware is lying near by btw
So cool to see an amazing actor taking this so seriously
As Christopher Lee said, "An actor can be in a terrible project, but they must never be terrible in them." I'm not commenting on the quality of the game itself, I'm just saying that its an actor's job to bring it, no matter what
@@NTWoo95 It's always reassuring when professionalism is exhibited.
He was fantastic as Omni-man it's great to see him in this too
i think jk simons has done lots of voice acting
You're obviously young.
I love this. J.K Simmons hasn’t let age stop him at all he’s out here killing it across all mediums, good for him. Look forward to seeing more of his character in BG3.
age doesn't affect actor's abilies, just their roles.
He's been hammy characters (J. Jonah Jamison), stoic characters (Tenzin), he can calmly tell you a heartbreaking story while said heartbreak permeates from every word, and I bet he'd be a great audiobook narrator for a bedtime story.
Age? At 68 he's in better physical shape than many 30 year olds. The guy is ripped.
@@horriblepancake Can’t forget Cave Johnson in Portal 2! 😁
“When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get Mad!…Demand to see life's manager!“
"Age hasn't slowed you down one bit!"
I like how I saw this video weeks ago but completely forgot and never realized Kethric was Simmons lol. Great voice work.
Dude same. I haven't really experienced the other 2 baddies, but Ketheric was awesome
I experienced that dude and thought I recognized that voice.
Dude even the face is modeled after simmons....how can't you recognize that it was him ???
@@kyorikusagami84 Simple. I'm dumb. 😜 Have a nice day.
It was a very different role for him, I didn't recognise him. Incredible!
God JK Simmons is so fucking good as Ketheric Thorm. I've hardly seen as good of a villain in fantasy before. Just the sheer confidence, terror, and menace you feel going against him is top tier.
If you are doing a good play through act 3 gets even better tbh.
He's so fuckin good that it kinda diluted other villains. I feel like Orin and Gortash don't come off as menacing as Ketheric because of the voice alone. Ketheric should have been the last boss
Ketheric is certainly the coolest boss, especially with the Avatar of Myrkul, but I think with how the story is setup, Gortash is shoehorned into Act 3 because that's when you get to the city, and the Cult of Bhaal (with Orin) kinda has to be in Act 3 because of the stuff that goes down with Dark Urge towards the end of the game.
@@brianfederkins i hated orin she didnt have the grandeur of the bone lord but she felt terrifying to me with her reveal at the circus i was not ready
I think Thorm is TOO good of a villain. He completely outshines Orin and Gortash and hours before them
He brings Thorm to life. You can feel the sorrow in his speech, the age, a long lived life. The Avatar of Myrkul.
Ironically as he is a champion of the god of death.
I get the vibe JK Simmons is just a cool dude. Making millions and millions as an incredible actor, then comes in to mediums like Invincible and BG3 and just kills it. So hyped for this!
Dude probably doesn't even know what an L is. Love him in everything he does.
Dude, Invincible cost $10 million per episode, and Larian are nearly the same size as CD Projekt Red. This ain't the little leagues.
@@Snuffsaid2007Woah woah, Larian and CD same size? No. Larian is a company that’s worth barely 12 million with 400 employees. CD is 3 billion in revenue and has 1000 employees. Saying they’re the same size is crazy
@@__mindflayer__ Barely worth $12 million? That's a joke, right? The production budget for BG3 alone exceeded $100 million. They sold 2.5 million copies of BG3 in early access, 1 million copies in the first week before they even did any work; that's $50 million they made in a single week. The only thing crazy here is how much kool-aid people are drinking when it comes to Larian and thinking they are small-time. They hired JK Simmons and Jason Isaacs for Christ sake, lol.
@@Snuffsaid2007 It’s not a joke… it’s their real stats. Look it up if you don’t believe me. It doesn’t MATTER what they made. They’re not the same size of CD at all. You’re trying to say they’re the same level when their numbers show they’re not. JK Simmons is helping with a project that was at the time still in early development. Showing he was willing to assist the little guy and not help a AAA company.
That’s far more respectful and a major accomplishment then you’re putting it out to be. A Larian developer himself said “what budget?” When they were told by another developer from a AAA company that they had a massive budget. I’m just correcting you.
Lmao, Larian IS small time! No one knew who tf they were and no one knew this game was being made at all. All their budget came from was their money they made along the way during early access and their kick starter. You’re crazy to to even try to say they’re the same as CD when CD has money from other major Witcher releases and backing of other projects that were major success like Gwent. Larian was known for Divinity Sun where the first one was a good game but barely sold. The second one being good too and had a bit of a success just because SoveitWomble gave them a bit of exposure. And before that I can tell you that you don’t know anymore. Not to mention they LOST money to buy the license for Baldurs Gate. They had to pay most of their cash that they had from their smaller titles just to convince Wizards of the Coast to let them have the game license since they own the DND campaign.
At that point Larian was almost bankrupt. So tell me, how is Larian even close when they are barely making up the money they lost for.
now that I've heard the voice i honestly cant imagine a word where J.K. Simmons doesn't just make an amazing villain. there is something about his voice that just screams I'm doing all the wrong things for the right reasons.
He's the villain in invincible
@@nova997and he’s the (sort of) antagonist in whiplash, his best performance imo
@@stanners1714 He also voiced Kai in Kung Fu Panda 3.
He also voices Tenzin in Legend of Korra.
Which is funny, because while he's supposed to be a mentor figure, Simmons' voice lends itself excellently to the times when he loses his cool.
@@alecchristiaen4856 He's one of my favorite actors. I really enjoyed his performances in Spider-Man, Whiplash, and Kung Fu Panda 3.
If General Ketheric Thorm mentally abuses and screams at my character "NOT MY TEMPO!" that will scare the hell outta me 😅
I can see the mod already: Ketheric only uses vicious mockery, and replace all the lines with the script from whiplash 😆, maybe fill his inventory with chairs to throw too-
Can you imagine him being your DM and his persona is that of Terence Fletcher?

Oh god yes! Imagine if he screams that when he crits? That would be the best hahahhaha
Player : "Please let me crit ! "
Thorm : "🤣...... ya serious?"
Of the three he seems the most scary in terms of how cool, calm and collected he is, how he feels so justified in his actions.
That’s the great part about thorm as an antagonist - he’s so relatable as a father. I’d destroy the world for a chance to live in the new one with my children too if they were taken from me. His conviction isn’t based in myrkul being “good”, he knows how evil what he’s doing is - he doesn’t care. All he cares about is that his daughter is returned and that’s enough for him.
he is the biggest loser of the three though
He really does blow Harley Quinn and man with the name of an Orc, face of a 50 year old and hair of anime protagonist, out of the water.
Really? To me he always seemed almost on the verge of tears, especially towards the end. There's this inescapable doubt creeping into all of his words imo.
@@notarealperson8956 I agree and it makes it great, the slight stutters or a small sigh mixed in -almost a shakiness at the end.
I'm still in Act 1 and am looking forward to the rest lol
Edit: I'm well past Ketherics part and it was all very underwhelming oh well lol
My only regret is we didn't get more Ketheric Thorm. Such a great voice acting job.
They should have made Ketheric Thorm the final boss out of the three.
Well, S (spoiler) came back from the dead. Who says Ketheric Thorn can't eventually?
he was actually supposed to be a recruitable companion who could be redeemed and played as later on, as I’ve just learned🥲 would’ve been epic as hell
@@eliatrance wai- WHAT?!?? Impossible
As much as I loved Orin and Gortash, but man, Ketheric gave me chills from the moment he first showed up in Moonrise. He just exuded confidence, authority, the whole set-up just screamed to my character to be vigilant and absolutely careful about her next move within the cult's lair. No less, because Ketheric was so damn scary. Hats off to J.K Simmons! What an astounding delivery!
I agree! Each of the three baddies have their unique voices and personalities, but Ketheric really stole the show. No matter how many times i've seen Ketheric's introduction once in the towers, I still get goosebumps.
Yeah they felt small time compared to him.
Their whole plan really fell apart the moment he died.
Orin and Gortash are just two silly kiddos compared to Ketheric. He glows with power and control, his first appearance sent chills down my spine! Such a great job Larian.
I feel act 3 was just missing so much tbh, those two do not even have anywhere near as the amount of depth as Ketheric. I only wish moonrise was the act 3 and the city was actually act 2. Cause after facing the epicness of Ketheric only to fight an annoying screeching harpy with daddy issues and some pathetic wannabe tyrant whose god easily abandons him for any whelp that asks…whose fights are nowhere near the spectacle that was Ketheric and Myrkul’s just made the game kind of a slog…plus the final boss was just not that interesting tbh…no real personal stakes. Felt like I was just fighting an asteroid crashing onto the city. I literally went to kill orin asap cause she annoys me.
Love seeing people take Video games more and more seriously as an artform in itself
Um, have you not been around for the past 20 years?
So what rock you been under
Videogames started as predominantly an art form, before gaming became popular and triple A gaming and esports arrived to the scene, majority of games made were someone´s passion project with genuine artists contributing to create thought provoking and masterful pieces. I am thinking of games such as Ecstatica, Blood Omen, Blade of Darkness and of course Baldur´s Gate I & II, Neverwinter nights, Planescape Torment, Arcanum, Gothic and many, many more. Baldur´s Gate series as a whole is a testament to that and, from what I have seen, its last instalment pays homage to the legacy of its predecessors.
@BlownMacTruck most people play fifa, cod, and candy crush.
So what I say isn't coming out of nowhere
@@Keln02 So? What does that have to do with your original statement?
J.K Simmons was THE BEST possible casting choice for Kethereic. His introduction scene always gives me chills no matter how many times i've seen it. Just the calm, yet Ominous and Commanding demeanor in the voice perfectly captures the Character by design. He made Kethereic the perfect villain in every aspect of the word. This character couldn't have possibly worked without Simmons.
"Try again."
"When Shar gives ya lemons, ya make Shar take the lemons back! Gonna become the Absolute! WITH THE LEMONS!"
JK Simmons is rocking the beard, love it
General Ketheric Thorm's ultimate move is throwing a chair across the room as I'm playing the drums.
Or throws a camera at me and tells me to go take pictures of Spider-man
He should do bonus damage vs bards.
Rushing or dragging?!
Not only is J.K. Simmons giving a stellar performance once again, I absolutely love the quality of the writing shown in this video.
When I finished Act 2, I didn't realize Kethric was voiced by J.K. Simmons because he was often so reserved and cold. It was very different from the often bombastic characters Simmons usually portrays and I really like that. First, it made for an excellent villain to interact with and second, what a great chance to demonstrate the phenomenal range Simmons has as an actor. It was a perfect intersection of skill from the writers and actor.
Many are calling his performance lacking, but honestly, he delivers this numb, emotionless, hollow shell of a man so perfectly.
His voice is so soft, but it's eerie and unnerving, because you feel it's from him being just numb to everything.
They already had me won with Amelia Tyler narrating, but Matt Mercer is Minsc and now J.K Simmons on the team not to mention the other voice actors I am less familiar with doing a great job. Most developers underestimate how much good voice acting affects the feel of a game. Can't wait.
Waaaait, Matt Mercer as Minsc?! Hell yeah!
good voice acting has such a huge effect on immersion and atmosphere for sure. It brings the characters to life.
Amelia Tyler's voice is divine
Doug Cockle! Geralt's in BG3! This game is insane!
Wow, Matt already has 2 Ws this year with Minsc and Ganondorf.
I’ve said it before but JK Simmons is one of our greatest living actors. He’s literally down for ANYTHING. Want him to be in a prestige drama? Got it, Whiplash. Want him to be in a goofy comedy? Cool, Palm Springs. Need someone to be a serious villain in your video game? Gotcha, BG3. Need a calm, somewhat-high-strung mentor for your animated show? Yup, Legend of Korra. And do you need someone who can play one of the most complex villains in popular series today? Of course he’s Omni-Man. JK Simmons is so versatile and he always seems like he’s having a blast with whatever he’s doing. Truly a national treasure.
I want pictures of mindflayers!
Having said that. This is some great range on display here from Simmons. He seems to display really well the "wise, yet malicious sage" character. At least that's what I pick up from it. Like ketheric seems self aware, but unable to stop.
The druids wouldn't need a ritual to protect the gove if they had Farmer's.
You actually nailed Ketheric. He's so depressed and hopeless, dissatisfied with the complacency of the Gods when his wife died, you can technically (SPOILER) pick a whole set of dialogue Options that let you at least 'try' and redeem him, talk him into surrender with all the Info on his family you found, if you stopped to read all the books about him. It lets you skip straight to the you-know-what fight under you-know-what with the you-know-what, because he offs himself. He broke himself so much over the death of his wife, blamed the gods so hard for not "just bringing her back", that he literally can't stop himself from being a tyrant and he's awfully self aware of this fact.
@@adrianreichelt7057 the other guy is the tyrant :p
General Ketheric Thorm is a proper villain.
Beautifully crafted, and beautifully voiced by J.K Simmons.
I'm very familiar with Simmons' voice but I didn't realize it was him because he did such a great job.
I couldn't hear the voice as anyone but Ketheric Thorm
And THAT is masterclass voice acting, folks
idk, I instantly recognized him and yelled in my best J. Jonah Jameson voice "I NEED MORE PICTURES OF SPIDERMAN!!!"
It sounds exactly like JK Simmons, I've never played the game but saw a 1 minute clip of him in "that's is how you introduce a villain" and I instantly looked up who the character was to see if it was Simmons. Doesn't make his voice acting or performance any worse though, he's still an amazing voice actor.
Both of these viewpoints are valid, because you can tell it's Simmons from the start, but the lead-up to getting to Moonrise Towers, the build-up, beating his underbosses in the town, all of it immersed me so much that my only out-of-character thoughts regarding his voice were "they used too good of a mic on his voice, I can tell because he has so much more punch to it."
Wasn't until watching this that I realized he was JK Simmons. And now I can't get it out of my head.
Isn’t he speaking with an accent or no
That settles it. My first character's name will be Tobias Beecher.
Or Ryan O'Reilly
Or Peter Parker. Or Po 😉
I might go Garth Pancake. Either that, or Mountain Girl.
Oh wow I love this! Amazing voice acting and the expressions on the npc model look really good. Hope we will get more behind the scenes videos.
The heir of tony jay.
"You're not a True Soul, YOU'RE A MENACE!"

I felt the exact opposite. Huge fan of J.K. but it honestly just sounded like he was reading out loud.
@@AlwayzFreshagreed. Love Simmons, but this just sounded like a dry reading. Like he never read the lines before delivering them.

JK Simmons is a f$&@ing legend. It would’ve been easy for a HUGE name like him to phone it in. Instead he went all in because that’s who he is and that’s what he always does. Absolutely haunting performance as Ketheric
Hearing J.K. Simmons portrayal in the game was not what I expected, but I deeply appreciated it. I was fully expecting shouting at full volume a.k.a. Invincible or Whiplash, but what we got was a very understated but very, very unsettling coldness that fit so well to the character in my opinion.

His character stood out because the vocal performance outclassed the already excellent cast.
Now that I see his face, I can’t unsee Simmons as Ketheric anymore.
JK Simmons has been going strong with his projects lately. Very very keen to see this game finished.

the voice acting in the first two games was really good, particulary Irenicus. It's good they have real actors in this one too.
I got to meet J.K. back in 2000 while filming and working on the set of the Gift. Solid dude, and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, it’s pretty cool seeing him do this!

When I found out J.K. Simmons voiced Ketheric, I was expecting a louder, hot-tempered man. After playing through Act II and hearing J.K. calmly speak to those around him in this morose tone, it really shows just how menacing (and human) this character is.
This man’s voice alone made me feel for the character of Ketheric Thorm, such an incredible performance

So good! As evil as Ketheric Thorm is, there are also times, like in this video, where he sounds like just a tired old man, and I love the dynamic!
Holllllly crap. Ketheric's voice actor was so good I had to look it up - and I'm both not surprised that it's JK Simmons (a fantastic actor), but also amazed they got someone so darn good to voice a character that isn't even the final BBEG. Outstanding!
He got spoderman's secret identity in the end; but it cost him everything.
I hope Larian can come back to do BG4 in the future, or even an expansion of this game. They just handled the story and characters with such fineness.

It's such an overlooked phrase, not only because it is well spoken, but because it's true.
Grief really does "steal" memories of your loved ones. And the first two things you usually forget are scents and voices.
Dear Lord, you guys got J.K. Simmons?!?!?!! I was excited before, even more now!
God, I love J.K. Simmons. Really happy he's part of BG3.
I appreciate J.K Simmons has been in films AND media such as cartoons and video games. He always gives 100% when other actors could see it as beneath them.
Watching this even now gives me chills. Simmons voice was one of my favorite parts of the story. I'm just so sad that you really didn't get to see all that much of him. I mean, you heard about him so many times before finally encountering him, and then it was over. I really wish you had come across him multiple times leading up to finally actually confronting him. It would have felt so much more meaningful if we could have been shown rather than told, like with the other two.
THAT'S WHY I'M HEARING OMNI-MAN! He is the perfect guy for the job. I always get chills when he voices a character.
That reading was powerful o.o I'm really excited for this now.
