- I know this is something lots of people would love to see in the CO sonic (and with a new release coming maybe we will), but for now…well it’s not as easy as it looks!

I am aware there is now a second version with frosted plastic but as I said in the video this was made before that one was released.
Thanks but none of my customs are for sale, nor do I have any plans now or in the foreseeable future to take commissions to make customs, sorry
I don't understand what you mean? Are you asking how I combined them?...because if so, that's LITERALLY what the video is about.
I'm starting to think you're trolling now, but just in case you aren't (and apologies if I sound condescending)...WATCH...THE...VIDEO!
Everything about how I made this in is in there...I don't know how much clearer I can be?
Cool video, but I reckon you could work on your editing. This video was 28min but I reckon cutting out your pauses and repeating yourself, it could probs be like 15. Not tryna hate, really enjoyed it, but could've been condensed a bit.
Normally I do edit my videos much more however I wanted to keep this one as "uncut" as possible due to having to do most of the actual work off camera, so at the risk of repeating myself and pausing I wanted to make sure that I told people exactly what I'd done.
This is what should have been released
It is a shame they didn't got to that little bit of extra effort I have to say but atleast now people can see how to do it themselves
I agree, even though this is like five years later
You've done well to get the two systems together. Even if they do re-release it with the spinning crystal, you can have the pleasure of telling them that you did it first :P
Thanks and technically S20 did it first haha although I suppose I could say I did the CO with a moving crystal first haha
This is amazing! For those of us who are more, uh, beginners like me, is it possible to compromise with keeping the Seven20 battery workings (which admittedly looks like it's integrated into the plastic, but maybe making something similar) and crystal?
To be honest electronic's isn't really my area of expertise, and the reason I did it the way I have is because it was easier than trying to fit the S20 workings into the CO one.
Ah, that makes sense; thanks!
No worries
Excellent work Capt Jim and thanks for sharing! It is frustrating how fans always seem to have to correct the shortcomings of mass market products! :-) And you have now joined the club of Sonic Modders like the guy who put a USB memory chip in his 10th Doctor Sonic, the guy who made the Wand Co 11th Doc Sonic extendable well before their re-released 12th Doc extending version, and others! Tho overall I like the 7/20 the best, I do like a few things on the CO version. Namely, I prefer CO's smoother finish (as often pointed out, 7/20's looks like wood instead of metal!),the touch glow feature, and the click start sound (tho if you listen closely 7/20 has a sort of quiet metallic "twang" sound that starts the main sound). But most of all I absolutely love the metallic looking adjoining section. (where CO put their speaker). In the actual design this makes it look like a metal socket holding the alien crystal which the Doc has fashioned a (presumably protective?) Metal sheath around. 7/20's is totally missing this design bit, and it's something I really wish was there. I'm currently sanding my 7/20 to lessen/remove the wood grain look and to try to add the metal socket somehow, as well as the concentric rings on the bottom of the crystal (also missing on the 7/20). The upcoming Rubbertoe version is gorgeous of course but way out of my price range. Sadly Wand Co doesn't appear to be doing any new Who (and still drives me bats they discontinued their 10th Doctor Sonic, IMO the best Sonic ever released by an earthly company!). Well done, creative and inventive mashup and you've inspired me to keep working on mine!!!
Thanks, I'm glad it inspired others!
It's fucking amazing!! :D
But now it didn't got the other 2 secret Sonic effects ._.
Well as I said in the video there's just not enough space inside to include the other board and so between either having extra sounds that haven't actually appeared in the show with that sonic (yet) and the rotating crystal, I decided to choose the latter over the former
Looks really good I would love to have one
Thanks
could you just add wires on the button and place them anywhere on the sonic
Sorry I don't understand what you mean?
CaptainJimiPie if you take the buttons off the seven20 circuit board and extended them with wires, you might be able to put the buttons anywhere on the sonic and also add the CO circuit board in aswell
Well you COULD do that but it would be very problematic, firstly it would be incredibly fiddley to do as the S20 buttons have 4 connecting points so in total that 8 extra wires you'd have to put it, which in turn would also probably block the light features.
Secondly you'd have to find some way of securing them to the body which wouldn't be easy as they're designed to be fixed to the circuit board.
And thirdly and most importantly it still wouldn't change the fact that there's limited space inside the sonic, so the 8 extra wires would probably take up the space the two new buttons would occupy, meaning you'd have to the wire the buttons to the outside of the sonic which would look odd but also lead to the them being more likely to break.
As I said regardless of ideas on how you'd work it, the simple truth is that there just isn't enough space inside the sonic to have both set of electronics operating independently from each other.
Do you think you’ll ever do a repaint of the CO screwdriver? I’m just wondering since the metal bits on the emitter shine through and it’s seen in the show that those bits are quite a darker tint of metallic than the rest
I might repaint the emitter so the silver parts are actually more solid but generally I don't plan to do any overall repaints of it
CaptainJimiPie that’s what I would do, and probably planning on doing, since I’ve bought 3 seven20 screwdrivers and planning on buying 2 CO screwdrivers 😂
Good luck with it!
Fantastic work! Is it for sale?
Thanks, and sorry not for sale.
Love it
Thanks
This is super cool! Its got my brain think about what i can do to upgrade mine, mostly cosmetic thibs not sure i have the guts to do wiring with my only sonic haah
It'a a great mod to do if you can :)
Omg character could easily do this , but they don’t !!!🤨
Thanks although to be fair to character, as much as I've slated them in the past, whilst they could do this it wouldn't be "easy" just swapping over these two halves was very fiddley so fitting a new circuit board with two buttons with all it's functions it currently has AND a motor then it wouldn't be easy to fit it all in
Superb custom there. Although the crystal does look a bit chubby compared to the one on the show so it looks a bit off when it rotates. This new re-release gives character a chance to make a better, possibly superior versions of the seven20 sonic.. I can’t seem to find any sources from character stating that they will be re releasing it... any links?
Thanks and I understand what you mean but in the hand (or atleast this custom version) it does look/feel in the right scale. And there's any any news links as they've not really advertised it as re-released however the new versions have been cropping up on eBay in some places.
I ordered and received mine today, still no spinning crystal though so the only changes are the new packaging, slightly more weathered paint work and frosted plastic
CaptainJimiPie oww interesting, really want to see that sonic. Is there a possibility of a sneak-peek on your twitter?
I have already posted a brief image of it but I'm not going to bother reviewing it, purely because there's not really anything to review, other than just some minor visual changes there's nothing new about it, the most new thing is the box design and that's not really worth a review video
CaptainJimiPie ow, but it would get a lot of views haha. People love new things!
Probably not as many as you'd think but as I said there's not really anything new to review
I hope CO re release this sonic screwdriver with the rotating emitter head
It is something that alot of people want to see but I think it's very unlikely it'll happen, they've already done one re-release and they've not updated it so it's unlikely they'll do it in future
Can u please try make a Yaz Ryan or Graham custom figure
Not something that interests me, sorry
The 720 is better aesthetically aswell because it’s more size a guarantee as well as there is more detail and the clear plastic is more cloudy
Not really, the S20 one is far smaller than the actual prop, it hasn't a completely incorrect wood texture and whilst it might have had the frosted plastic the CO version didn't the CO version has been re-released with frosted plastic so now the only thing that makes the S20 version better is the spinning crystal.
As far as aesthetics and appearances goes the CO one is much closer to the actual prop.
This is great to see I plan to try this in the future. let's be honest its will be several years after this sonic is long done with until CO bring one out with a rotating emitter.
I'd be very surprised if CO ever released one with a rotating emitter, simply because of the about of retooling that would require
Great job as ever
Thanks!
It didn't have the rotating emitter though
If you mean in the show then yes it does, it was seen in episode 3 when The Doctor unlocks the warehouse doors
I mean the second model of 13s sonic
I know it didn't...that why I made this video adding one...sorry but I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make?
@@CaptainJimiPie sorry about that love you videos by the way
No worries and thanks
You’re holding it wrong 😛
I’m just holding it in the most comfortable natural way my hand holds it...unless I was pointing it backing at myself then I’d say there isn’t really a wrong way to hold it
How did you frost the plastic
As I said in the video I just painted it
CaptainJimiPie what type of pain did you use
Just watered down acrylic white
CaptainJimiPie and where did you get your seventwenty sonic
I got mine sent to me by a friend in the US
Looks like a vibrator. What were they thinking?
If you think it looks like a vibrator it's because you WANT to see that. Look at the Ninth/Tenth Doctor's sonic, that could easily be seen similar as a bullet vibrator but no one said that because it wasn't a female Doctor using it, even some of the classic sonics with their sleek sliver design could have been said to be like that (Steven Moffatt even did that joke in Curse Of Fatal Death so it's not even original)
The only reason people are saying the new Doctor looks like a vibrator is so they can make THAT joke just because there's a female incarnation of The Doctor now...and those people need to grow up.
