It wouldn't surprise me if one was a FP exclusive but it would surprise me if they got both variants as there's plenty of other opportunities to interest other retailers by doing that, and thereby increasing the possibilities of investment in the range
I would like to see the colour variants. Nothing is confirmed as you say but I've heard many a whisper about a pink version coming out at some point. Though one thing that I am intrigued by is if the variants will have their own deluxe and retail versions, or if they'll only have the painted version or just the plated ones given that it would most likely be an exclusive. Hoppefully we do get to see one sooner rather than later
Personally I'm not going to put a whole amount of stock in those rumours until anything is confirmed. It seems like an obvious thing to happen and probably will, but so far I've heard people basically saying it's coming out in every colour under the sun, including those which haven't even been seen in the show. Well if the Gold Fourteenth Doctor sonic is anything to go by then I would assume it would be a deluxe version with more lights and sounds, HOWEVER I can't see them electroplating them all so I would assume whilst they have the extra features they'll be metallic finished like the standard versions which will also make costs lower and therefore more appealing to buyers. But that's just purely my own speculation
I just got mine this morning and I love it. I always liked the design, but I understand why people might dislike it as it is a complete change from the traditional look. I totally get what you (and others) say about it not being 'a sonic screwdriver' and that's totally fair. Personally, I am just going to call it a 'sonic' and leave it at that! I look forward to seeing any colour variations in the future and will probably get them, just as I got all three 14th sonics. Great video, by the way!
Great review! I like this design, i think character have outdone themselves. The only of the doctors sonics they need to do now are the dark eyes and 2nd doctors sonic... which lets be honest, aint gonna happen, 2s is just a penlight😂 im not sure they could get the rights for the dark eyes sonic? They did big finish figures years ago but idk.
I personally love the design. It’s really grown on me. At first I was very skeptical as it looked far too drastic and different from what it was before but then I looked at it from a design perspective and the more and more I looked at it the more I loved it. The colours are gorgeous, the detail is very intricate and it feels very ergonomic in the hand. I also love the fact it has multiple functions. The fact it doesn’t have the cylindrical shape is a shame but tbh when people say “it doesn’t look like a screwdriver” I point out the fact that non of the others did either, ESPECIALLY the original version which was just a pen light. The standard edition of this sonic is on sale now on forbidden planet and Whoshop. That’s where I purchased mine from. Be warned that if you buy it from the who shop the shipping charge is pretty expensive depending on where you are from. xx
I love the design in general, as I say it does feel fitting to Who it's just not what I think a sonic screwdriver should look like. That being said maybe once I see it in in action in the show a bit more it'll grow on me as that's happened with a great many things in the past. I've pre-ordered my standard ones from FP, it means having a wait a few more weeks but given that WhoShop have added an extra £10 on top of the retail price plus £8-£10 postage just to get it earlier seems silly to me
@@CaptainJimiPie that’s perfectly understandable. I’ve seen myself taking a while to grow on certain designs of the sonic like 13s (though definitely still not my favourite) but tbh I’ll take anything that’s not those god awful Sonic shades 😬… so maybe it’ll grow on you the more you see it. I’ll admit I was skeptical of it at first but then the more I saw the design I appreciated how beautiful it was. So I respect your opinion. Yes I definitely recommend people don’t buy it from Whoshop as it’s a ripoff. I bought one from Whoshop because I was perhaps, a bit too impatient to get my hands on one (I’m a bit of a completest) and bought it, but the shipping costs made it cost the same as the deluxe edition. So I suggest people order it from forbidden planet instead. A very good review btw and I always appreciate you enlightening people about inflation and why the new sonics/figures are more expensive. Keep calm and carry on, living the geek life…🤓😎. Xx P.s sorry for the length of this comment 😅
What would be cool is if they give into the tv remote criticism and do a 15th doctor universal remote (obviously this wouldn’t be by CO) just like they did with 10 and 11’s respective sonics, because this one would be much cooler as a tv remote than the past sonic screwdrivers they did. It would also fit in with the revamp of the show, we had 2 sonic remotes, we had a sonic pizza cutter, a sonic spork, but nothing like that for a while with the dwindling popularity of the show, so if we’re getting a new golden era of merch, please give us more sonic doohickies!
There are plenty of opportunities to use the shape of the design for some other fun items, however given the higher price of previous Sonic Universal Remotes, the inflation of production costs since then and the functionality needed, I'd suspect such a thing today would likely have a retail cost of £200+ Which wouldn't be an unfair price but if people are griping over this costing £40 then they'd have a field day with that!
I completely agree. As a toy, I think it's really good and my children seem to love it but as an actual prop, it's just too different from what's come before. I actually wouldn't have minded if they started calling it a sonic Probe, although that would have definitely been controversial.
Sonic Probe would have been good but as you say controversial (or at least to those purile enough to make the obvious joke) but a Sonic Scanner or "Multi-Spectrum Scanner" or something would have been fitting too, but then you'd have also had people complaining (and blowing out proportion like it's gone forever) that the screwdriver had gone. But that's more the actually show production than anything else, in terms of a toy I think it's fantastic and is certainly going to appeal to kids and younger audience members!
Technically Sonic Probe is actually something of a generalisation. Whilst The Doctor's Screwdriver has been referred to as probe (by both themselves and others) the term "Sonic Probe" is also used to describe other similar devices as well as being a specific name for some
Wow this thing is really Interesting and I think this might be one of characters best. I agree on the hole doesn’t really fit the bill as a sonic screwdriver but this is still an incredible peace. I think kids will adore it and that makes me happy and the work put into this thing is mind blowing
Definetly! It's very easy to overlook that these kind of things are not aimed solely at adult fans. Whilst adults might pick it apart more critically, kids will see it as some that's pretty much identical to what they see in the show and that's a VERY strong selling point for toys!
I received mine today, I’m so pleased with it The only thing I’ve noticed about it is when I try the secret lights and sounds it doesn’t always work. Also when I swivel the end pieces the left the purple crystal doesn’t light up.
I was saying that to my friends the other day, that I love the design, but as a sonic lance not as a sonic screwdriver, it just doesn't fit with all the other designs.
careful with opening and closing these things, I've had the bottom part of mine get scratched due to the rubbing up against the back side of the main bit. Also, I've had the same "bug" as you where the lights don't come on when using sound #2
It would be nice if they didn't but at the end of the day it is only a toy and with the kind of design it has (which is very much on the BBC) wiring would always be a potentially issue with the swinging movement of it. I suspect that's why some peoples have been so loose, as they have to make accommodating space for the wiring
I feel like the pink one and the yellow one are gonna be Forbidden planet exclusives. Like how we got a gold 14th doctor sonic

The Second Doctor sonic would probably be easier than the Dark Eyes one due to rights issues but never say never, as you say we got figures!

I think it will, like the Paradigm Daleks I was never happy with them initially but I've gained a fondness for them in more recent years haha

@CaptainJimiPie Actually a Multi-Spectrum Scanner sounds really cool. Although it would take my kids a while to pronounce it. 😄
Well it would also be a good harken back to the Daleks saying the same thing too haha
@@CaptainJimiPietbf Sonic Probe is the actual name for the device. The Doctor is the only one who calls it a sonic screwdriver.

That is strange, I've seen a few other people who've had some "electronic" issues
@@CaptainJimiPieI don’t know what’s the issue, I’ve got the retail version on preorder so I hope that one won’t have any problems
I've got my retail ones on order too so hopefully that one doesn't have it but given that it uses the same tooling there's a chance it will
Wonder what colour background will be for the other doctors
As far as I'm aware the background on the standard version is the same as the exclusive, the only package difference is the "deluxe" label
I was saying that to my friends the other day, that I love the design, but as a sonic lance not as a sonic screwdriver, it just doesn't fit with all the other designs.
It's a really tricky one because it does feel very Doctor Who as a device but just not as a sonic screwdriver
