It's actually easier if you just start on Step Two, then once you've completed Step Four by removing the gold ring, you can do Step One then move on to Step Five. ;-)
ionly just ralised that the clamp section was back to front on the first moded vertion i evn did the samemod well i broke my first one but then had got a new one then i moded it and now it works also i had to replace the speaker as the orignal one burnt out
Just did this modification. I used a flat head, thin screwdriver to help me pull off the gold ring by two millimeters then I pushed it all the way out with my fingers. I used an actual metal file to adjust my switch, which was VERY loose when my sonic arrived. I had to adjust the switch's screw tightness a bit to have it to my liking before putting it all back together. It works as expected! Thanks for this tutorial. :)
I've just finished doing this thank you so much for making it so simple and with things I had lying around at home. Thank you very much I now basically have the prop 😀😁
Done this and works perfectly, just want to suggest that people take off the gold ring before taking the outer screws out, doing this the other way round is probably why people end up snapping the wires as the ring is a nightmare to get off. Also, it appears that the outer screws are actually torx screws, as my Alan key went blunt while unscrewing them and I found that a torx screwdriver fitted perfectly and was much more effective. Although you can still use an Alan key as shown here if you don't have one available - hope this helps! 😉
Had a problem with mine, the blue settings just do'nt work anymore, so I went to try this modification but as soon as i opened it and tried the real switch the blue settings didn't work out too!! When I bought it I was curious if maybe pressing it down and sliding the swtich would hold it in place and it did!! But activating it became more and more difficult to the point where I couldn't activate the blue setting anymore and to activate the green setting I can't slide it all the way, just a bit or it turns off, do you know how can I fix this?
Hey man, I love your video and It's an impressive mod. What's the purpose of sanding down the switch? And how far do you have to sand the switch down with the sandpaper? Love to try this out.
Started getting back to watching and collecting my favorite Sonic's. This was the first one I purchased since it was the cheapest. Just finished doing this mod and it's fantastic. Can you do a video on removing the spring for the touch version of the 11/12 Sonic? I really want to make it flickable. I just got that one today, but I'm afraid to open it up without a guide. Lastly my 10th Sonic should be coming in on Monday. Do you have a mod guide on that?
No way of reparing a broken one ( I asked help from a family member and he accidently ripped it in 2 parts )? Like where do disconnected wires go..? ( :
D3ADZ0N3 You just have push it off using your hands, it's stuck on with a small amount of glue so a bit of force will get it off. If that doesn't work then I'd suggest to trying get it off with a flat head screwdriver but be careful ;)
Dr. Catinstein I guess it just depends on how much glue has been put on each sonic... The gold ring on mine popped off straight away but when i took the ring off another one it's been stuck down a lot more ;)
I'm pretty sure the first prop that Nick made (the one used in 'Hell Bent') had the wheel control but after that, Nick decided that a switch would be easier to use. So on the other 3 props he built he used the switch on them and he did the same with the replicas he sells. Not sure if he kept the wheel on first original prop or changed it to the switch like the other props. :)
you're clever with stuff like this, so..: My 12th touch control Sonic screwdriwer just broke. It won't make a sound or light on open mode, light comes somewhere between open and closed mode, and it makes only sound in closed Position. What I should do?! pls help! ( Batteries can't Be Dead because I got it 24th december 2016, and My other Sonic Is much older with older batteries, and that Works still )
Blurringma I am bit angry now to these 11th and 12 Doctor's sonics, So maybe just keep this broken piece of crap, and some day try to fix it. ( And remove the spring ). Next sonic what I want to buy Will be River's, 10th's, 4th's or maybe trans-temportal sonic screwdriwer. That shows how disapointed I am.
My version is sorta broken as the switch for the blue settings stays in place 99% of the time without modification but it's a cool positive to a sorta faulty screwdriver
its fantastic, i would do this with mine, however. im afraid i will break it cus im shit, 2 i cant find a screw driver small enough for the smaller screws and 3 i have no sand paper

Doctor who Productions You could try prying it off with a flat head screwdriver? But if you do that make sure the two side Allen screws are still screwed in as it could cause the electronics to snap in two
