    Mazda vehicles are so nice. Its 6 speed works very smoothly. Wish more people buy Mazda . I got Mazda 6 and GLC300 in 2016, and have got no issues with 6 but GLC had forced me seeing dealer so frequently. Decided to replace GLC with CX-5Turbo lately, CX-5 is such a pleasant car to drive, CX-30 seems even better. Love Mazda

      Stephen Powdexter CX5 is based on the old design principles Mazda employed. When there’s an all new CX5 it’ll be better, but at the moment has the older interior, media system, audio system etc.

      suilong jiao interesting. The 2017 (late) was supposed to be all new and now we are talking new again. I almost bought a 2019 turbo but decided it was too expensive and, as noted, is behind in some features.

      I wish Mazda offered more fuel-efficient options. I know their focus is largely on driver engagement, but there's no reason they couldn't offer hybrid versions of the CX-30, Mazda3, or Mazda6 that could rival competitors like the Honda Insight, Hybrid Accord, or Hybrid Sonata in fuel economy while maintaining Mazda's famous driving dynamic. I'll likely be purchasing a new vehicle in the next year and absolutely want a vehicle that pulls 40+ MPG every time I fill my tank, and that's the sole reason I won't be purchasing a Mazda as they don't have a single offering that meets that criteria. If a hybrid Mazda3 or Mazda6 existed, however, I probably wouldn't even bother looking at the competition. Instead I'm looking with great interest at an upper trim level of the new 2020 Sonata Hybrid. Oh well.

    I have this car. The rear view is limited so I removed the rear headrests since I don’t have passengers. This car is meant to do grocery getting and not off-roading, so should meet 99% of folks looking for a subcompact CUV. 186hp is powerful enough to get off the line and merge onto the freeway when needed.
    The ‘20 crosstrek engine felt so slow but I see the new 21’ crosstrek has been upgraded to more Hp.

    Just ordered a CX30. It's the first vehicle I've ever made a decision on having not seen in person or driven. Before watching this video I was crossing my fingers. Now I'm excited and can't wait for it to arrive. I have been driving std transmissions all my life and having moved up north my knees started complaining last winter so decided that since I'm approaching 61 I should 'grow up' and get an automatic. In addition having something a little higher off the ground is quite appealing.

If I could add one thing it would be to increase the fuel tank size on the Turbo versions. ( 2 gallons more ) From an enthusiasts driver point of view this maybe one of the most engaging CUVs for those of us who really like to drive. I have said it before and will say it again here...the CX5 family of CUVs has almost something for everyone of us who is an enthusiastic driver and at an affordable price point. I've always loved Mazda's. I've owned 3 of them and never had problems. They're very well made and underrated. The one thing I wish Mazda would do with their vehicles is provide better leg room in the rear. Most competitors out shine them in that department. The belt line is also high. I believe the Volkswagon Taos has the most rear leg room which is impressive in the subcompact SUV segment. But nothing beats the interior of Mazda vehicles especially for the price point.

    While I appreciate this review, a few things of note:
    - I find it humorous that you refused to mention that the interior is noticeably upscale. Competitive with vehicles in the luxury segment.
    - You mentioned the side door speakers were moved for a larger storage bin in the doors. These speakers were moved to remove the large cutout in the door's sheetmetal in an effort to reduce interior road noise. Pretty important.
    - All the buttons in the vehicle have the same tactile feedback. Mazda has done an incredible job making the feel of buttons and dials consistent across the vehicle. Again, contributing to the feel of an upscale / luxury vehicle.
    Overall, great review!

    24:40 Alex nails why manufacturers are abandoning sedans and hatchbacks in favor of crossovers. I know ethusiasts complain and many ranted that Ford was insane to do so, but in a modern crossover like this, you give up nothing in terms of economy and driveablity but you add a ton of practicality.

    • @lowrider276
      @lowrider276 5 років тому

      That really isn't true. Simply cause of physics, the average car will out handle and be more efficient than its crossover counterpart. Secondly, just cause something has a hatch doesn't mean it's more practical. Some of these crossovers are so small, they really don't carry that much more stuff than a compact or midsize sedan with a decent size trunk.
      That being said, the delta is narrowing and you don't have to sacrifice as much with these vehicles as you did in the 90's and early 2000s. Bottomline these things sell because people like how they look and sitting up high. They're rarely a pragmatic decision.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 3 роки тому +1

      @@lowrider276 Out-handling is only an issue with sports cars. Comparing a Mazda 3 to a CX-30, they both handle fairly equally on a regular road. Alex mentions this several times. The fuel economy is also pretty close. A Mazda 3 AWD 2.5 gets 26 city, 35 hwy, while the CX-30 AWD 2.5 gets 24 city, 31 hwy.
      What you absolutely cannot deny is that CUVs are FACTUALLY more spacious when you compare to the same size sedans. So compare a CX-30 to a Mazda 3 sedan and you’ll see.

I have it in my 2019 Mazda3 hatch and the vibration really ruins the otherwise spectacularly smooth drive. Also, make sure the climate control works as it should: set the temp to 62 degrees or so and see if it blows super hot air instead of slightly warm air as it should. The one thing that turns me off on this vehicle is the styling. Yes, the vehicle has beautiful, breathtaking lines, a red so deep that you can dive in it, and a beautifully crafted interior that’s like a marriage between a BMW and a Rolls; but, really high window sills, tiny windows, swooping lines, and giant wheels with thin tires? This is not just a Mazda issue, all auto manufacturers seem to be copying these common forms into their cars in the same way it was done in the 50s with giant tail fins, the 60s with plastic woodgrain panels, and the 70s with fake fabric convertible roofs. These styling cues will make these vehicles obsolete all too soon. I guess I’m an old fashioned guy who likes function over styling. Great review as always!

      Exactly. Look at Toyota. They're already having problems. The mazda 6 speed is probably one of the best built transmissions you can get right now. Why mess with it?. I've always thought that the 8 speed is more marketing hype anyway.

    • @441meatloaf
      @441meatloaf 4 роки тому

      @@Corkfish1 8 speed is designed for smoothness mainly for CVT usage because people said 6 simulated shifts on the CVT can be a bit clunky and slow where as 8 speed provides better power transition betwene 1st to 3rd gear. 8 speed isn't really overrated if you look at german models that as 8 speed DCT or Hyundais they work fine. Just that DCT in itself is a problem, high clutch wear.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 3 роки тому

      How does having more gears equate to more problems? That makes NO engineering sense. Also, automatics have been getting kore and more reliable through the years, The 6-speeds from 20 years ago were factually LESS reliable than modern 8-10 speeds. They were just expected to only last 80-100k miles. Most modern automatics last past 150k miles. The issues with modern transmissions aren’t mechanical. They’re software-based. Transmissions often work poorly, but they don’t break. They just need to be mapped properly, so they can figure out what gear to be in for the specific conditions (not as easy as one might think). Otherwise, the more gears you have, the easier it is for the transmission to deal with the torque, the better it is for the engine, the transaxle and fuel economy.

    The US-version of the CX-30 is supposedly lifted an extra 1.4" compared to international versions. It would be nice if there is an easy way to lower it to match the international height.

    Foreign companies are being honest and showing Americans the actual value and price of a product. Honestly, almost all cars and SUVs shouldn't be exceeding the 30ks, even for premiums. But American companies just keep inflating their numbers on their products year after year. We, as consumers should start showing our own companies that we are tired of their inflated numbers and terrible quality of their products
