- A look at the vegetables and other items available at the south Anchorage Farmer's Market held near O'Malley & the Old Seward Highway on Saturday morning August 15th 2015. They also had a very talented singer/guitar player for entertainment.

wolfmanred1 Just make it a goal. I wanted to come to Alaska and was able to make it happen. I moved up here and worked basically for room/board the first year to get started. Best of luck.

As long as you're a hard worker you'll do fine. If you're willing to work 2 to 3 jobs then I think you'll make it. If not then I wouldn't bother to move here.
cost of living is a consideration. if you cannot afford it do not go.

Alaska prices are higher than the 48 - but salaries are higher, as well, in part. It's also in part because it's difficult to grow veggies in Alaska - cool days and a short growing season in much of the state aren't conducive to high crop yields.

Food in Alaska can be very expensive. In fact, goods in Alaska can be very expensive. The state has a very short growing season for vegetables.
I have lived here 35plus years and grow a huge garden and believe me these prices are NOTHING BUT PURE GREED.
Hopefully it is not like Commieforia where the vendors get produce from fruit/veg wholesalers & sell as local farm/ home grown,organic ect....scam.
