    "Fog and mist"; could've sworn you were saying "F***ing mist"!! Ha ha. I'm no fan of the pea soup stuff myself!! A lovely video. I hit a lot of those highlights in May on my own Cairngorms Crusade, although my night in Bob Scott's was a disaster. Rather than two lovely ladies, I had two human walruses with foghorn levels of snoring!! Ah well, that's the way the cookie crumbles, I suppose. Yeah, I passed that private hunting lodge too. There was a big party there, cooking up a massive barbecue - they didn't offer me so much as a kebab! Good video, brought back some good memories!! Regards, Wadi.

    I really enjoyed that Stripey and one of your best videos, I just love that sort of journey. I followed along on OS maps such a good route. I walked part of it with family and friends about 12 years ago and the five of us spent a snowy night in the Fords of Avon refuge. It had just been replaced and was like new. It was a tight squeeze but such a fun night with some whisky. You inspired me to visit that area next year now I’m retired.

    Very enjoyable video. A beautiful route. I have walked a few sections of this at various times, including through the beautiful Abernathy Forest. I also use your technique for burn crossings, just walk straight through. I have shoes that drain and dry fairly quickly. I find sealskinzs socks good for the colder months, even if they are wet they keep your feet warm due to the merino wool lining.

    Hi Stripey 👋. This was a fantastic adventure, so scenic. That ancient pine wood looked beautiful. I didn’t notice a water proof cover on you Bonfus, did you use a pack liner? Also, did you use waterproof socks Stripey? And yes, I agree, Cola bottles are the best! Serk

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  Рік тому +1

      Hi Serk 👋,
      thanks a lot. No I don’t use a pack liner - the pack is water proof enough for me (never had any water coming in) and I put my quilt/sleeping bag and clothes always in waterproof packs for organisation…I prefer it this way. No I just wore my usual wool socks as always - the waterproof socks aren’t as comfy (rather for winter usage in my case).

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  Рік тому +1

      Thanks a lot, the Abernethy forest was also one of my favourite parts! Not sure if it is the stripey hat, probably just the weather conditions and to greedy to pay for a taxi to get back to the car. The two ladies who went back from Linn of Dee to Aviemore had a taxi quote of 162 pounds...

Glad you're looking after your feet, it becomes a bigger priority as you age and the circulation gets more sluggish. Hi Rose 👋, thank you very much! I do think that for hikes with this many water crossings, boggy moor ground,…. Trail runners are the better shoes. The main reason is that it is possible to walk them dry again on the gravel stretches…or at least you can get the insoles dry (which is anyway the most important!). High top waterproof boots are in my experience impossible to get dry again once they are wet.

      @haraldbrettfeld9049 yes I do. I wear every so often Sealskinz socks (e.g. ‘Glen Feshie’, ‘Last taste of winter’, ‘Winter summit and beach wild camp’).
      Do I like Sealskin socks? Not really, I have the feeling that I get sweaty feet in them (get soft skin, like from being to long in a bath) which eventually brings blisters…I wear them only when I know that it gets cold and or repetitive river crossings + not more than 15 km to the camp.
      I just think that wool socks are to 90% of the time the better choice for my feet. Not as warm but I never had any blisters in wool socks and as long as I walk I don’t get cold feet + they dry over night in your sleeping bag.

      @@StripeyHatGuy was thinking of a tour taking in Bynack More and Beinn Mheadhoin and maybe Faindouran bothy and appreciated your 'fun' time in what I guess was Strath Nethy. From what I've read on WH it can definitely be a place to send people you don't like.Would it be easier going up that route or just avoid and go around the back by Fords of Avon-i.e. longer but gentler. As ever thanks for your time in sharing🙏

      @@StripeyHatGuy pencilled in for last weekend October /first week of November so definitely a 2dayer. Lots of options Was hoping you'd turn left up to the Hutchinson Hut and the loch beyond -Views are stupendous. I had the place to myself on A Saturday night! It's tiny but if busy Loch Etchachan is a great location to pitch. Ideal for one of your wanderings.

    Lovely video Stripey, I've a similar stove (caldera) and I feel its a wee bit dodgy to cook with it inside the tent inner on foam, inside a highly flammable tent. Don't like to detract from your beautiful videos but dinnae burn yerself!

    • @StripeyHatGuy
      @StripeyHatGuy  Рік тому +1

      Very true! I use a triple layer tin foil underneath the stove - need to be particular careful when using an inner tent 👍

      No I haven’t seen any, said this when I was walking the first day through the heather I saw every so often something moving next to me…probably just some roots or twig’s which were connected to the ones I was standing on but it still caught my eyes. I saw quite a lot of frogs so 😃
