    Great video for a weekend mechanic like myself, who only has basic tools.

    The video was helpful 💯... but those swaybar links were shot and needed to be changed at the same time.

    a ratcheting wrench for that 1st bolt would have made life easier, that was really painful to watch

    • @fredleydiy
      @fredleydiy  3 роки тому +6

      I agree, although a racheting wrench may not fit since it was so tight with a standard wrench.

      @@fredleydiy true, but you can get them as slim, but, not to worry you got it sorted

      Had another look, a ratchet would work fine, great video though

    Great help. Video hint though. One need not show the entirety of removing each nut/bolt/screw etc. just which one, which tool and how. Thanx for the help. Diving under next weekend.

    Takes more effort this way but definitely easier that removing the axle, the caliper, and all that junk.

      Agreed. It took a while to find the right tool to get the ball joint off on the first side, so that I could film it on the second side.

    Sway bar link easier to take of with a 18mm wrench and a T40 on a ratchet.

      It twisted up my torx socket… use locking Vice grips between the ball joint and the sway bar link to hold it in place as the nut is turned off. I’m in the Midwest. 10 years of snow and salt rusts those fasteners together real good.

    How did you remove the control arm without taking the bolt?!? Im workin on my Chrysler 200 and the engine is in the way making it impossible to remove it

    • @fredleydiy
      @fredleydiy  3 роки тому +1

      The left bolt, on the driver's side, was a challenge. After removing the ball joint and right bolt, I pulled the left bolt out as far as I could and then moved the entire control arm towards the left to pry it out. Putting the new one on is the reverse of these steps.

      there is another video where a guy uses a floor jack (w wood buffer) and he loosens a few bolts on the cross brace and then jacks up up under the engine to move the transmission a few inches to make some space.

      EASIEST WAY if your working on the driver side lower control arm grab a second floor jack thick piece of wood an jack up the whole engine on the driver side that's how i removed my bolt

  • @M.Sandman
    @M.Sandman 11 місяців тому

    you need to remove the front bolt all the way. Front horizontal First off, and rear vertical bolt (round part of control arm) First on. you're lucky you didn't break the front bolt lol.😉

    The 2015 has the transmission closer. The bolt does not come out

      I had same issue with 2009 so I lifted it up enough for bolt to clear.

    How much money do you save doing this job yourself.

    • @malmonte
      @malmonte Рік тому

      About $150

    • @gregt722
      @gregt722 Рік тому

      $150 labour per side. Save another $100 if you replace the sway bar links at the same time. Add another $300 labour if you replace the rotors and brake pads. Don’t forget these shops add extra fees, like $50 shop supplies, $20 acetylene torch fee, $20 enviro fees, and of course taxes.

      They are working great after about 20,000 miles.
