Hey guys Joelster here, I teamed up with Lustre to help you find other Projectors similar to this one on Amazon, check out the link right here: my.lustre.ai/mVTRJ
Thanks for the review. Gotta say, I know it’s your personal preference but the remote size isn’t that big of a deal. It’s comparable to many TV remotes and a lot of projector/home theater people will probably use a different remote most of the time once everything is configured. You’re also looking at a smaller screen due to your distance-it’s super sharp still from further away. As for the quality, it simply blows us out of the water-shows in UHD HDR have brights that are almost like looking at the sun-some people call it a “light canon.” Also, the projector boasts Atmos pass-through including many other features. The projector has also come down in price from $1,700+ to $1,399 recently making it one of the lowest priced full-featured projectors. Originally, I was looking into a BenQ in this range but I’m glad I picked this up instead.
Thank you for posting this review! I just bought one for my fiance for Christmas and was worried that I might have chosen the wrong projector! You eased my mind!
For those of us who still love 3D The Epson Projectors are the way to go.............Hands Down. I own the 5030UB and thinking hard about this 3800; the 5050UB is way too expensive and the drop in picture quality I don't think is that significant.
You don't need the epson glasses. You just need active 3d glasses, the ones for dlp projectors do not work but Amazon has some where you can get 2 pair for 50 bucks made by Sintron model st07-bt
You have to pull the projector back to make the screen bigger. The farther the projector is from the screen its projecting on the bigger the image gets. Think of it this way, when you turn on a flash light and put it close to a wall it makes a small dot of light but if you get it farther from the wall the light spreads out covering more surface. Its the same thing with a projector
How is the contrast on this projector? Say for watching movies like star wars with deep blacks. Do they appear nice and black? Thank you for the thorough review.
I'll be trying this out tomorrow hopefully. I just ordered the 2017 version of The Fifth Element in 4K Ultra HD and it has HDR content so I will be able to tell how good the contrast is then. Otherwise, it's very similar to the Epson 2150 which also has surprisingly good black levels for a projector at that price point.
Is there a reason why you went with a grey screen over a white one? I’m planning on installing my hc 3800 on the ceilling and use it in bright day as well. What screen would you recommand for a scrolling screen? 90-100 inches
Nice video! One of, if not the only good more in-depth video review I could find on YT of the Epson 3800. Lol surprised others havent made any videos on it, seems like a really nice projector for the price. Went ahead and ordered it, coming in a week, can't wait!

Not sure what want yet but I think I'm all in on this one its chunky seen in best buy the thing is I have somewhat low ceilings and a ceiling fan so might be an issue for me to mount so gonna go with a tripod but also thos only looks this good because. The screen and they aren't cheap. Just hope looks good on a somewhat ok screen Definitely won't on then 25 dollar foldable cheapy choppies
I was comparing so many projectors and I think the BenQ X3000i and the BenQ TK700STi are the best ones if you want to also game on the projector. Im leaning more toward the TK700STi since it is a short throw.
Why not get it framed in properly so the image actually fills in the entire screen? Otherwise what was the point of buying a big screen lol? Also the tension of the tabs on the screen needs adjusting, there’s some noticeable ripples on the bottom edge .
Hey Joelster! Love the reviews. I noticed you've recently reviewed the Benq tk850 and this projector from Epson. Which one did you like better overall? Black levels, color, sharpness, HDR, etc. Both are in the same price range and feel like great options for the living room! Curious of your opinion, sir. Cheers.
I bought this after lots of research. I would have preferred the savings of the 3200 because I don't need the speakers or the trigger out port. I only bought this for the higher contrast ratio, so I hope I appreciate the difference after I set it up, because I could have saved over $550 by buying a refurbed 3200 over the new in a box 3800 I pulled the trigger on. All my friends told me to "go for the better one". Thanks for the video.
Nice review! I notice you have it set to the side of your couch. Are you using any horizontal lens shift? Also, what projector stand is that? I am having a hard time finding a stand that will fit the dimensions of this projector. Looking to have this thing sitting to the side of my bed since I don't want to mount.
The blacks on the 3200 are dark grey, at best. The 3800 has noticeably better blacks, but still not pure black. The better contrast ratio is literally the only reason I bought the 3800 over the 3200. I have zero use for the built-in speakers and trigger out port.

@@snauspockets9924 Right, it's a 1080p image shifted. So it's basically 2 1080p images interlaced. Sharper than 1080p, but about half of true 4K/UHD. Maybe calling it 'crap' was a bit harsh. But I'm just not a fan of when when companies lie to customers, claiming their projectors are '4K' when that is quite simply not true. And again, it's not just the tiny little 4K TV. I've also got a 1080p projector, have for years. And yes, I agree. It is hard to go back to little TV's after you've gotten used to 120+" of projector goodness.
@@bliglum I wouldn't call it lying exactly. I knew what I was getting into when I bought it. If you look at most reviews they'll tell you it's great tech and very hard to distinguish the difference between a true 4K image and a pixel shifting unit like the Epson. The 6050 uses it and is no slouch. I got the 3800 for it's super high brightness with still great black levels as I use it in a livingroom with lots of light. Turns out the image is amazing as well. Blacks are great. All I can say is that if you got your hands on a 3800 for a week, I think you would be very reluctant to give it up. Especially with the 99 dollar lamps.

Even with regular 1080p content the 3800 upconverts it to a much higher resolution and it really makes a big difference when looking at a 120 inch screen. Screen door effect pretty much goes away entirely.
If you believe it is "crap" you won't feel like you are missing anything and I get that. Psychology is cool like that...no big deal. Better sleep that way.
Enjoy your tiny little 4K tv! I have two of those as well and they rarely get turned on. My kid would rather fire up the 3800 than play games in the playroom on a small(65in) tv...and I don't blame him.
