After other reviews (this was a year ago), I purchased this very table saw. And, after a year of use, I can say I'm very glad I did! It performs beautifully and handles everything I throw at it. My only issue so far is the table surface marrs very easily. And that's it! Everything else about it works fan-flippin-tastic! Highly recommended 👍

This plate included a special arbor nut that claimrs to make the use of a dado stack on this saw safer. See your owners manual for the item number. I found mine in acme tools
Just purchased this saw and have been spending a fair bit of time getting everything squared up before I actually put it to work. I love the amount of adjustments that are available on this saw it is a definite upgrade from my last saw. The one issue I have so far is that the table seems to dip from the miter gauge to the blade, when I put a straight edge across the table perpendicular to the blade there is a definite gap that starts at about 1.5" from the throat plate on either side. Not sure if this will cause any issues but I am concerned that with smaller rip cuts it may cause the cut to be off 90°. I really appreciate the content you put out and use many of your reviews/recommendations as I build up my tool selection.
I've had this saw for about 2 years now. I love it, does everything that I need it to do. Love the folding legs, great for transportation to the jobsite. Small and compact. Great rack and pinion, and extension. Would definitely recommend for a first time buyer or someone on a budget.
This is good news to me. I had the cheapest Menards saw for a few years and I hated the fence so much. A couple years ago I fenced in about half an anchor, and the design my wife wanted has a dado groove in every 2x4 to frame cattle panel. A TON of dado-ing. I decided I needed a new table saw, and all I knew is I wanted a geared fence and this one seemed solid. A couple years later and I’m getting more into wood working and have been binging your channel and others. It’s nice to see a tool recommended that I already have lol
Thank you for this video! I already had a nice table saw, but I wanted a way to make box joints and dado joints while minimizing the setup. I bought this saw and the Freud Dado set. For the price, for me, it was worth it to have a second dedicated table saw to keep the dado blades on. This is a great setup! You also hold the distinction of being the first person that I have ever clicked affiliate links for. Your videos have given me a great amount of value. Cheers!
I have an old hand me down Ryobi, no rack and pinion fence. Been looking for a new one. Been looking primarily at cordless units. But man, built in legs, onboard storage for accessories, quality of cutting, I just might be sold on this. And it's like at least $100 less than the cordless. If I see this on a sale, I'm going to get it. Thank you for the very detailed review, and demonstration of the use cases. It was easy and thorough. Really appreciate it. The 25.5 cutting width seems great to me. I think both the Milwaukee and DeWalt's are like 24.5. And great suggestion on the miter gauge. Thanks again! God Bless!
I bought the Skil saw on your rec and couldn’t be happier. I didn’t know it existed and probably would have been fine with the standard Dewalt everyone goes with but the Skil features suit my needs perfectly and with a larger blade! Thanks!

Thanks for another great video. I'm semi-retiring this year and plan to do a lot more carpentry. Going to get rid of my basic table saw and pick up something new. This seems like a nice saw for a beginner but I'm more interested in something that will allow me to take my workworking skills to the next level. I'd like to see you do a video on the top tools and give an example for base model, mid-level, and higher end. I'd be more interested in the mid-level but I'd like to see your recommendations for some higher end items: table saw, router, planer, miter saw, etc. thanks again
Finally! I got to make first cuts with this saw, that I bought back when it went on sale (hope you got the affiliate credit :). Finally in my house and they just finished foundation repairs this evening... Couln't wait to start setting up "my shop". Granted only did basic cuts right now, but that thing cuts like it is cutting though butter!! Already got first injury, but that is on knucle of my thumb when releasing the knife lock and my thumb grazed a tooth. Now off to do the responsible thing, reading the whole manual. Thanks for the video and recomendation!
By tossing the stock blade on the workbench, replace it with one with more cutting teeth, preferably carbide tips, and you won’t have that splintering along the cut edges.
Thanks for this video. I have been going back and forth on a Sawstop but just can’t justify the price. I just saw this at Lowe’s for $285 with my military discount and ordered it! No it will not be as good as the Sawstop but for the price it will be great.
GREAT VIDEO AND DEMMO. !!!!!! THANK YOU !! I have the same exact saw.....I am little unsure on how high or low the knife has to go ..???? Also can you just keep the anti kickback mechanism in place and loose the guard ?? Thank you again !
killer video man, massive amounts of excellent information I could hardly keep up, man thank you so much. I might actually sell my old table saw and get one of these after a few more review videos. Great job!
Great video buddy! I’ve actually been looking for a newer “nicer” table saw for my shop. For the last couple years I’ve been working with a ryobi 8 1/4” table saw Which has worked but it’s well over do for an update. So I might have to give this one a shot At least until I can talk the wife into letting me spend a couple thousand for a sawstop lol
SawStop has a new compact saw for $900. I don't know if you can find one in the wild yet though. It's certainly a different class of saw but you mentioned SawStop. ;-)
Time for a follow up on this saw, as Skil has made some improvements. Bought one this week from the local Menards and noticed that the newest ones on the floor came in a much cooler box, which was black with white lettering. Inside I discovered that there was a separate smaller riving knife included so they are now removeable. The throat plate is metal not plastic, and at least on mine, the fence is a nice perpendicular 90 degrees. Thanks for your initial review which got me looking at this saw in the first place.
watching this video, they must have made it bigger. I'm 6ft and the one in this video looks much lower than my saw is on me. It's a pretty comfortable height for me to work with. Also I think the fence capacity is wider than the 25" he mentioned. So they must have made a bunch of changes. Additionally, I got mine on black Friday from menards for $265. So be on the lookout for deals
Such a good quality review, very thorough, and very helpful. I just started following you on IG, was looking for a review of this saw and you popped up here on YT. Thanks!
I currently have the Hercules tablesaw from Harbor freight. I was very skeptical about buying it because it was from Harbor freight, but the reviews were really really good. It also had a reckon Pinion fence, but it cannot do dado’s. I think my favor thing about the skil-saw is the built-in “stand”
Yeah, that Hercules brand is, I believe, specifically aimed at DeWalt, and going toe to toe with them. That table saw looked just as good as any DeWalt. I have never actually gotten to use one though, the Hercules table saw that is.
@@ericwilliams538 yeah it’s very similar to the dewalt. The dewalt has a little more HP and it also can use dado blades. I definitely would recommend the Hercules for any small shop, or for a job-site
Solely on your review of this saw, I have finally decided to fight with my wife for a week, to convince her to let me buy it. Thank you for the review bossman! You're great
You mentioned the saw bogged down a small bit while cutting the second, deeper dado. Trading the 8” dado set for a 6” shud help with that to an extent as there’s less weight and a smaller circumference/distance the blade teeth have to travel. A little something someone fm Woodcraft told me when I was buying a dado stack myself. Great review of the saw. It (the saw) reminds me very much of my Metabo jobsite saw… incredibly accurate and easy to use, tho retails for ~$650 when not on sale.
A tripod won't wobble so you just need to adjust the 4th leg. Now... as far as "LEVEL" is concerned... that's more complicated. I don't need mine that level, yet! 😮
@@tuberstitious are you saying it doesn't matter which corner the adjustable leg is on? I was thinking your statement was contingent on the other 3 legs being "long enough", assuming the adjustment only allows you to lengthen the leg. If the adjustable leg (home plate) is on a high spot, where it wobbles from 1st-3rd, wouldn't the adjustment just make it worse?
I had a Lowes gift card so I decided to check and see if they had this table saw and it is actually on sale for $299 through their site. Thanks for the video. I have been looking for a good budget table saw!
FYI Matt, this saw is no longer on Amazon, and your link takes you to a similar, yet smaller Skil Table saw. I was going to use your link, but its not to the correct product anymore, so I'm finding it elsewhere online.
Anyone who owns this saw can tell me its dimensions when folded up? There's an online deal for this thing at a local store right now and I'm super tempted.
What I would be interested in would be a table saw that offers accessory appendages that enlarge the size of the table to turn it into one huge table for cutting things like big pieces of plywood. That table saw is good for what he demonstrated, but the surface area is too small.
Its too bad they didint design for adjustable height on the legs, because it does sit low for a taller person. I guess you could build a riser, but that wouldnt be the safest approach.
you should get the zero clearance throat plate or a dado throat plate. The parts of this machine match those from bosch. They are pretty small for long boards. The other thing is how is the angle alignment? Is 32 degrees actually 32 degrees?
@@731Woodworks - I guess Amazon auto-selects country. In the UK the link goes to a Bosch Mitre Saw. Your link must be for the US only. Checking in the UK...sadly this Skil saw does not pass regulations in UK or Europe so not available outside the US
I bought this saw a couple of weeks ago based on this review. This is my first table saw and I’ve gotten a lot of wood through it already. Adjustments are simple and everything works like it should. Thanks for pointing this rookie in the right direction!
About three minutes in and this video is the absolute BEST setup video I have seen on YT! I bought this table saw about a year ago and am now getting around to unboxing and using it. The last time I used a table saw was in high school shop class DECADES ago, so I'm definitely a novice. You included aspects of setup and use that people like me need, as we're going it alone. Thank you so much for a clear, well-informed, professional-level video. New subcriber.
Testimony for the Skil Table Saw... I've been in the market for "budget" table saw and after watching your review and several others decided to purchase the Skil Table Saw. I just got it and spent the last couple of days making sure everything was square and properly aligned after swapping out the factory blade for a 60 tooth Diablo blade. The FIRST 2x4 I ripped I noticed that the saw seemed to bog down but figured I was just feeding it through too fast. I reset the fence to rip another slice off the board and it again bogged down at the same point in board. I knew there were no knots in the board so when checked to see if there was anything there I saw the problem. I had cut through a nail not once but TWICE. It was completely embedded below the surface of the board and being a commercial board from a big box store it never occurred to me there would be a nail in it. However, the saw and blade both survived so I don't know if that's a plus for the saw, the blade or both.
A 60 tooth blade is for cross cuts and plywood/fine finish on sheet goods. Use the supplied blade for rip cuts. Or a similar replacement blade. This channel has a great blade explanation video.
I got one too it's a great table saw Only i installed a soft start for a smooth start And i want to replace the plastic dust plate I buy it for 260 euro in the Netherlands
Maybe a dumb question... Can I use a Diablo fine finish thin kerf blade in this saw? The manual says kerf width should be greater than .1 inches. But blade packaging doesn't have a measurement like that...
That is a GREAT question, but I'm just a novice with LITTLE experience with a table saw. I will have to go and read the manual for my Bosch to find out what my specs are when it comes to the kerf. Thanks for raising this question. 👍
You don't need a built in blade lock, just place a small piece of scrap wood so the tooth of the saw stops on it when you turn the wrench. I'd also recommend either slipping a pipe over the wrench handle or getting a longer handle wrench to increase your leverage. It will also be much easier on your back, this type of work is hard enough on it already.
I was interested in this tablesaw after seeing some of the UA-cam reviews but after reading the reviews left by users on Amazon I completely changed my mind. Your comment is most likely closer to the truth than some other comments that make this tablesaw a great buy for the price.Doing further research, even though it costs a lot more the Milwaukee M18 cordless tablesaw seems to be one of the best portable tablesaws out there right now.
The riving knife on this saw is a weird size. It’s 0.09” thick. It calls for a blade that has a plate size of less than 0.07 and a kerf more than 0.1 inches. As far as I can tell the higher end blades have a plate size that is too big. This makes the riving knife ineffective as a safety device. The high end thin kerf blades have a kerf size that is too small, which means you literally can’t push the wood through the riving knife. The only decent option I’ve found was the CMT itk extreme which is recommended by Katz Moses. This has a plate size of 0.071 and a kerf of 0.98 inches. That’s about the thickness of 2 1/2 sheets of paper less on each side of the knife than the manual recommends. It’s worth noting that you don’t need a riving knife if you are using a crosscut sled or a tapering / edge joint sled if you just shave the edge of the board and don’t create a cut off strip. So you can still use higher end glue line blades for this purpose. that are too thick for the riving knife to be effective. So I guess that’s what I’m gonna do. Use the cmt thin kerf blades for the bulk of the work and use the higher end blade just to shave edges for glue ups or with a crosscut sled.
Just ordered mine today! Found out about this saw when you put this video out I am EXTREMELY excited. First tablesaw and the only tool I need to have a fully functioning shop. I will post an update once it arrives.
The Hercules saw is also another super solid machine. These two are practically identical. If you're in the market for a budget friendly machine it seems the Skil and Hercules ones are the best bangs for the buck right now. The rack and pinion are the best features for these. Especially since most portable saws major flaws are the fence systems.
@@mmjay7078 If you say so. My experience has been the complete opposite. They are better built than other brands in the same price bracket like Ryobi for example.
I have it's cousin... the Skilsaw wormdrive spt-99t (8&1/4") smaller blade and about 100 bucks more expensive BUT I am pleased so far ...good brand... chose it over the similar dewalt set up, I am happy with it.
25 years ago I worked in the “tool corral” at Home Depot. Even back then, these Skil table saws were packed with features the other big names didn’t have. They were half the price in many cases and more than double the features. They weren’t a super rugged job site saw, but really fit the bill for homeowners and light commercial use. Probably the biggest downside , was the name. Skil, once a leader in the power tool field , was considered sub-standard to many tradesmen. Glad I found your video, quite by chance, as I am in the market for a tablesaw for my handyman business, guess I will have to reconsider this old friend !
I just bought this saw TODAY and I paid 259 for it, just a heads up. Went to Lowes where they had it in stock and priced at 269, I had them price match Walmart which was online order only at 259! Watched this after buying it and im so glad I made the purchase!
It's now only $300 on Amazon and I bought one because of your video. Thank you. I wanted to replace my ancient Craftsmen bench model because it had no protection pieces, a friction fit fence and no t-channel for the miter. I'm just a hobbyist so it's not worn out but the motor noise of the of the Craftsman is twice that of the Skil. The rack and pinion fence, guards and other features you highlighted sold me on this.
With inflation and box stores increasing their prices it makes it hard to support local stores/ businesses. It’s unfortunate and dangerous that Amazon is taking over but it’s the most accessible unfortunately.
On sale now at Lowes. $299. Bought it. My first table saw. Ended up going back and forth between this and the $679 Delta (or Ridgid), which I'd buy over the $650 Dewalt. Hopefully I won't regret it. I just hope it hold some resale value if I want to upgrade in the future.
11:38 when you said it's extremely loud, will changing the blade reduce the noise or it's just the mechanism of the saw itself? Also, how loud is it compared to other saws that you have? I'm about to pull the trigger on this to place in my garage for DYI but I also don't want to bother my neighbors.
I actually just bought this. Haven't even pulled it out of the box yet. After much research I bought this because of everything mentioned especially the fence. Glad to hear that I made a good purchase.
Really appreciate that you're giving the extra tools to your support base. Watching creators grow kits of 15 sleeping bags, 20 reciprocating saws, 30 pairs of cleats, etc etc drives me bonkers when many of us are pinching pennies to get our first budget model of an item. I realize a table saw is a bigger space item and that might play into your decision as much as what you need/don't need, as well as promoting your patron base... but it's a good step in the right direction. 👍
I figured out a cool way to keep my shop vac hose connections in place. I wrap 2 strips of the same side of velcro (1 on the end of the shop vac hose and the other on the collection hose it attaches to) and a single strip of the other side of velcro which bridges the gap and keeps it in place.
Great to see a believer being bold on his channel. Love the t-shirts and the, ‘Greatest Free Gift,’ video that you made available. Awesome brother! I pray it is being effective leading others to Christ Our Lord.
Outside of the Tools that come with the saw, can one get a "narrow/slender wrench in to do the blade change? I have never liked those stamped steel "tools" that come with the saw. And as you said, the fit of the "tool" left something to be desired.

Thanks for doing all these tool tests. It helps me have a little more confidence in getting my woodworking set up. I’m still scared though. lol
GREAT VIDEO AND DEMMO. !!!!!! THANK YOU !! I have the same exact saw.....I am little unsure on how high or low the knife has to go ..???? Also can you just keep the anti kickback mechanism in place and loose the guard ?? Thank you again !
Wow! a lot of nice features
I wish these types of saws had a geared/threaded bevel adjustment. Trying to tune in a precise bevel can be a PITA.
Wow I recently bought a ryobi extended fence table saw at 27 inches and I love it it is awesome small and portable
killer video man, massive amounts of excellent information I could hardly keep up, man thank you so much.
It's certainly a different class of saw but you mentioned SawStop. ;-)
Just bought this saw myself, loving it so far. 👍🏻
I bought one to get into the hobby.
I thought this would be a paid shill ad, but this saw is legit. Way better than my dewalt.
Did they increase the overall height when unfolded? I see lowes has it listed as 36" and skil still says 32".
Mine comes in at 33@@screw-luck4636
watching this video, they must have made it bigger.
I wonder if the throat plate is compatible with older models. I've seen the bowing as a complaint.
@@screw-luck4636 i just got mine in today and no they did not its 33 inches high i wished it would have been 36 but man im so happy with it
Late to the party here but wanted to say thank you for your service.
Such a good quality review, very thorough, and very helpful. I just started following you on IG, was looking for a review of this saw and you popped up here on YT. Thanks!
Very nice review, thank you sir.
Glad it was helpful!
What do you think of a Shopsmith for small areas?
It looked a little low for you,.......but you didn't mentioned that. Is the tble height a problem?

Any reviews on the harbor freight Hercules?
My brother in Christ: another well done video. This is exactly the kind of info that us rookies need.
Cool review. Weird you cant lock the blade, because i saw in another video there is a handle there to lock it.
Can you make a video for sleds and jigs for those of us running contractor and job site saws please?
Bought this saw about a year ago at Lowe's. Took it back 2 days later and got the Dewalt DWE7491RS. The Skil table saw just wasn't up to the task.
The whole time I kept looking for the facts to show up every time I heard the bubble pop. Like in the old show "VH1 Pop Up Video".
Solely on your review of this saw, I have finally decided to fight with my wife for a week, to convince her to let me buy it. Thank you for the review bossman! You're great
How easy is it to precisely adjust blade height/angle?
You mentioned the saw bogged down a small bit while cutting the second, deeper dado. Trading the 8” dado set for a 6” shud help with that to an extent as there’s less weight and a smaller circumference/distance the blade teeth have to travel. A little something someone fm Woodcraft told me when I was buying a dado stack myself. Great review of the saw. It (the saw) reminds me very much of my Metabo jobsite saw… incredibly accurate and easy to use, tho retails for ~$650 when not on sale.
Was it just the one leg that micro adjusts to level it? Seems like that would be really inconvenient having to make sure that was on the low corner
yes, just one leg
What type of blade would you suggest for plywood?
60 tooth or above would be good
I'm looking at this saw but want to asking if you had any ideas or opinions on the ridgid r4550
Where did you purchase that saw
Just picked mine up for $300. Honestly, for that price, this is a great table saw.
FYI Matt, this saw is no longer on Amazon, and your link takes you to a similar, yet smaller Skil Table saw. I was going to use your link, but its not to the correct product anymore, so I'm finding it elsewhere online.
I think it is sold out on Amazon right how. Check Lowe's and Tool Nut, I think they both have it in stock.
Good thing that’s what I purchased.
Anyone who owns this saw can tell me its dimensions when folded up? There's an online deal for this thing at a local store right now and I'm super tempted.
Dang. With my DeWalt had legs that did that. Lol
I believe that that beginners should wait until they can afford a saw stop. Safety first my friends
Is there any store so i can buy in Europe ?
What I would be interested in would be a table saw that offers accessory appendages that enlarge the size of the table to turn it into one huge table for cutting things like big pieces of plywood. That table saw is good for what he demonstrated, but the surface area is too small.
Gotta make em. Now that you would have a tablesaw. Thats likely gonna be a first project. If i ever get one
I just bought this saw and making a larger table for it to be inserted in is high on my list to do... and possibly a platform to raise it a little.
Its too bad they didint design for adjustable height on the legs, because it does sit low for a taller person. I guess you could build a riser, but that wouldnt be the safest approach.
Hey Matt thanks for another great video. FYI i found the same saw at Lowes for $50 LESS
Awesome
you should get the zero clearance throat plate or a dado throat plate. The parts of this machine match those from bosch. They are pretty small for long boards. The other thing is how is the angle alignment? Is 32 degrees actually 32 degrees?
First woot 🥇
Unavailable on Amazon right now
Link to saw does not go to the saw in this video. What model is it?
Just checked the links and they go directly to the saw. The model is TS6307-00
@@731Woodworks - I guess Amazon auto-selects country. In the UK the link goes to a Bosch Mitre Saw. Your link must be for the US only. Checking in the UK...sadly this Skil saw does not pass regulations in UK or Europe so not available outside the US
@@Selkian ahhh okay, that makes sense.
I bought this saw a couple of weeks ago based on this review. This is my first table saw and I’ve gotten a lot of wood through it already. Adjustments are simple and everything works like it should. Thanks for pointing this rookie in the right direction!
How do you think this compares to the compact dewalt?
For your information, this saw is now $299 at Lowe’s and Amazon. Even cheaper than the time this was posted.
Wow, thanks!
For a beginner, which do you think would be better, the skil or Dewalt DWE7485?
I got one too it's a great table saw
Only i installed a soft start for a smooth start
And i want to replace the plastic dust plate
I buy it for 260 euro in the Netherlands
I bought this saw it is horrible!. Worst table saw I ever had!
Beginner? How about just anyone needing a good saw
Holy Mole! Lots of good info here CarlYota! Thanks for that. 👍
I agree. I think I like the Hercules a little better, but the Skil is a very solid saw.
Hercules is trash
@@mmjay7078 If you say so. My experience has been the complete opposite. They are better built than other brands in the same price bracket like Ryobi for example.
@mmjay7078 that's too bad, you must've got a bad unit.. I own their 12" compound miter and it's an absolute beast never an issue and true cuts..
@@MemelordSupreme just paint it yellow and watch him slob on that adjuster knob.
Do the legs come off in case you want to put it in a table?
I was going to buy this saw before I got my Bosch one at a yard sale for 100 bucks
I really appreciate the Autism Awareness!!! My wife has been working in the field for 16 years.
I just bought this saw TODAY and I paid 259 for it, just a heads up. Went to Lowes where they had it in stock and priced at 269, I had them price match Walmart which was online order only at 259! Watched this after buying it and im so glad I made the purchase!
I got this for $290 here in Sweden, including 25% sales tax (hahah…). It’s a beast! Wow!
Everyone please stop buying from Amazon and buy from local stores
With inflation and box stores increasing their prices it makes it hard to support local stores/ businesses. It’s unfortunate and dangerous that Amazon is taking over but it’s the most accessible unfortunately.
Zero clearance insert? I see it's square kind of like the old Craftsman which was a pain to make
Someone is selling them on Amazon now.
I'm buying whichever goes on sale first between the Skil ($300 target) and Dewalt ($550 target).
Woot! looks like not being the first anywhere has finally paid off. This saw is now $299 on Amazon. Thanks for the review!
How can you secure it to a table tho??? There is no screw slots to screw it to a table top
If only this, or any jobsite saw, could have a flat table, it would be great.
Even the 10" Dewalt doesnt have a flat surface anymore.
I'm not sure if you can find one of those or not
The stand is a definite nice feature!!!
You don’t have to spend extra on buying that accessory!!!!
