  • This is the 2nd Half of the Song "The Friends of Mr.Cairo" by Jon & Vangelis. I call it the emotional Cut.
Some of the Pictures I used in this Video are from : merl1ncz.devian...
    The Lyrics :
One on one to talk to you
Like film stars they get close to you
    You've mirrored his appeal
He wants you so, he wants to be beside you
Then you pass by giving him the other side of you
    Like the mystics do
So that every time he moves, he moves for you
Soul and light can always see
The meeting of true love and she
    This silent night and I,
I guess a lonely mind might see
I've seen love on the screen
    I've seen a screen goddesss and me-oh
How often this, how often, this the power of you
    And so, I must confess
    Whatever I see
I'm meant to be there with you
    With you with you
Silent golden movies, talkies, technicolour, long ago
My younger ways stand clearer, clearer than my footprints
    Stardom greats I've followed closely
    Closer than the nearest heartbeat
    Longer that expected-ther were great-
Oh love oh love just to see them
Acting on the silver screen, oh my
    Clark Gable, Fairbanks, Maureen O'Sullivan
Fantasy would fill my life and I
    Love fantasy so much
Did you see in the morning light
I really talked, yes I did, to Gods early dawning light
And I was privileged to be as I am to this day
To be with you. To be with you
    [movie actor like speech:]
Mr. Cairo: Listen. I have arranged this display for... for all of you people to... to come here this evening and I... I know you have been searched, but, what you... you don't realize is, is that in the back of the Maltese Falcon, I have it ...

I was watching Fringe when the song came on..I turned to my wife and said Holy Sh..t, She looked at me and asked what is wrong? I told her that I thought I was the only human being alive that owned The friend of Mr Cairo CD The song is one of my favorites and many times I would play it from exactly where this clip starts to the end..are discovering it, funny thing is I am late with this post because I was out of the country for 8 weeks and just got around to watching the episode.

This song cost me a friend. She took it wrong. I shared it with many. It's a beautiful song. I love it but either it or the fact another friend shared it with me. Doesn't matter. I told her I care about her and love her but she said I don't care and to stop saying that. I told her that I say I love everybody. Honestly I do love all my friends. But anyways people have boundaries. Best to you all. Love the beautiful song. I died in 2023 I'm lucky to be alive but I'm fortunate that I get to experience a little bit more beauty in this world I'm glad a friend. I'm glad she shared this with me.

The very first CD I ever bought when CD players became commercially available back in the early 80's. Lovely - and Fringe reminded me of just how lovely this song is.
Thank you Jon Anderson for all of the beautiful music that you have gifted to the world.

Jon's voice compliments Vangelis' piano and synths wonderfully. What a gorgeous voice that man has.
In an unrelated note, I was brought here by Fringe. :)

I have been listening to this entire album (Jon and Vangelis, Friends of Mr. Cairo) this evening (for the thousandth time), and I must say that it not only never gets old, I am still of the opinion that it is one of the best works of our time. To this day it still deeply moves me. It is a remembrance of classic movies of old, how the 'new' media made us feel, and how it changed the world. The finale is not only about our deep past as a nation, but about our future. Jon's angelic voice and the musical wizardry of Vangelis fit like a fine glove to weave songs that almost seem self written, they are so perfectly matched.

When I bought my first cd player this was among the earliest cds I bought. I previously had the album which I sadly sold and was happy to hear this song again. I played this section over and over. Growing up in the seventies I spent a lot of time at the movies at a run down little single screen theater in my home town. This provokes the joy of going to the movies and getting lost in another world----unlike today where reality has intruded in that world. Look at what they did to James Bond.

I must confess... I'm looking at pictures of MY OWN 'screen goddess' (small screen) /dream girl while listening to this, and it's working really well.
'How often this, how often this, the power of you.' The music and the pictures, casting spells!
-- I like the video as well, I should say... fits the mood.
Soul and light can always see, The meeting of true love - can be read in different ways... it's not JUST her beauty appeals to me.
Makes me wonder if Jon ever had a crush on some movie star. He depicts it so well.
Maureen O'Sullivan is the only female star mentioned... maybe just because the name fits the vocal line well?
    'My younger ways stand clearer...'
