The indescribable beauty of emptiness, bleakness and originality Bladerunner 1982 showed can never be equaled. There is only 1 Vangelis, 1 Rutger Hauer, 1 Harrison Ford and one Sean Young. There is only one 1982.
First time I watched Blade Runner I was 10 years old. With my dad. He took me to a kind of cult movie theater we had in our city, and I never forgot this. My father passed 15 years ago and Blade Runner always reminds me of him. I must have watched this beauty about 10 times.
How did Ridley Scott manage to find quite possibly the most beautiful actress ever whilst simultaneously landing the most beautiful soundtrack ever thereby crafting one of the most beautiful films ever?
Yes she was. Unfortunately all the females that I have encountered that look similar or exactly like how Sean looked back then have drug and/or alcohol problems. Including my ex. There must be something connecting them, genetically or socially. I dont think they realize how beautiful they truly are, no matter how much they are told, or the focus is solely on beauty and little substance.
@@WintersArcher It's possible that you lack objectivity. Also, rather than call these people 'women', you instead choose to call them 'females'; this suggests a latent misogyny.
I related to Sean young’s character so much as a young woman. Untouchable. Hidden truth. Finding love through the knowledge that she is more than an Android. Everyone hates what she is but she has value. Someone loves her this much. This was my therapy. All the women in this film were modeled from paintings by gustav Klimt.
I have seen this film at least 15 times, again and again I fall in love with Sean Young. The moment, she open her hair makes me, an old man of 70, hopelessly cry. One thing, among others, one learns to learn from this movie: beauty hurts, boy, and how!!
This movie! These were the best years of my life. I would trade almost anything to go back with what I know now to live those years all over once more.
So same, especially knowing now,the girl I fancied like hell back then, but was too shy to ask out,did fancy me too. I came so close. Now I live alone, wondering… Hope she happy..

@Stoneryoda 937 well written, especially the last thing you say - "but he keeps it ambiguous", has a double meaning. I always interpreted the title "Memories of Green" to relate to the idea of the world within Blade Runner not having any grass or organic components left, and it being a eulogy for the "old world" maybe I'm talking out my ass, beautiful music either way. Big up Vangelis

I remember listening to this song on repeat while traveling overnight by Grayhound bus across the USA before I moved from the UK. New sights and experiences accompanied by this amazing music. Memories indeed!
I find it amazing that this was written and recorded a couple of years before Bladerunner. The music itself, the background sounds and even the title fit the movie so so well.
Just remember, Vangelis cannot read or write music. It’s all heart to brain to fingers, a true genius.** update RIP to the master Vangelis. Your music has gotten me through life this far, we love and will miss you , 😢❤ will never forget watching Blade Runner as a young boy and be captivated by your music. RIP
I've always loved this piece, it's absolutely timeless. In a movie that includes so many themes, this song amazingly follows that convention with it's name and makes for a perfect companion to the movie's story. Memories of Green, a meloncholic song that evokes feelings of longing for something that's been lost forever. In the post-apocalyptic world of Blade Runner, flowers, plants and animals are just but memories of things long gone.
I discovered this movie the summer break after my first year of college 2 years ago. I've never seen another film like it. During shooting Sean and Harrison couldn't stand each other and this tension carried over into the piece adding real chemistry between the actors.. Vangelis's music is integral to the brilliance of the film. Combined with artistic cinematography, superb sets and a chilling theme about 'replicants', turning against their masters, Blade runner stands alone as quite probably the greatest science fiction film of all time.
@Чёрная Кошка i read an interview with the guy who played holden (i think the actor's died now) who said harrison got on pretty well with him, so there you go :P
First off "Memories of Green" preceded the film release by 2 years with a 1980 Vangelis album. (quite possibly even what prompted his hiring for the job) As to the 2 actors not being able to stand each other - Harrison was an experienced professional, and Sean all but new to acting It's not that he couldn't stand her, he was just annoyed at being left to explain everything to her whenever there was gaps in her knowledge. This is because Ridley Scott has never been a very 'hands on with the actors' kind of director, he's a camera/effects/art kind of director that prefers to leave the actors to do their own thing while he makes the film look great, something Harrison also wasn't particularly fond of either despite his appreciation for Ridley's trade skills. As for Sean Young, she did not dislike Ford - she was just very intimidated by him (what new actress wouldn't be??), made worse by his impatience at her ignorance. It's a pretty understandable outcome, and easily avoided had Ridley or a producer contracted some assistant director to do the things he had no stomach for with the actors, at the very least for poor miss Young 😅.

Vangelis....Wow... it is not what he plays...but what he doesn't... the space between notes....the feeling... the interpretation of mood... and above all melody! He makes any film he is involved in! As important as the actors.... more so in certain scenes..... just like Ennio Morricone... and so many other great Cinematic Composers! ...we are so fortunate to have them! ...and I wonder what masterpieces would have been given us...had The Cinema have been created in the days of Chopin...Liszt... Puccini...Verdi...Strauss...Mozart ...Beethoven.....
Vangelis' soundtrack for Blade Runner is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard. Sometimes haunting, but always deep and moving. This piece, Memories of Green, is one of my favorite moments in the film.
One of the saddest themes , ever..... Per many years, each time I heard this track, I could imagine a scientist or military base in the South Pole (or in another planet)..first habited by a crew of only 6 people ...(begining of the song)...and during the 'happy' part, it was the grand ship coming with the new crew and guests.,..they share a lunch and an afternoon together laughing.....and just befor the night comes, the ship left again, leaving the new 6 people crew in the camp..and the sadness coming back...(ending of the song) the thing is that in 2011 I ACTUALLY spent a whole year in Antartica..and to be honest, it was a hard, hard time (psychologically speaking) I had a collection of several gigabytes of music..but I REALLY was afraid that if I listened to this theme I would break to pieces and do a stupid thing,.....Only after several months there, I finally was able to pass through the listening of this sad song...in a military base, near the south pole, with a reduced crew of fellow partners...
OT"
I first saw Blade Runner in Berlin in November, 1982, and its timeless story and the music that Vangelis created has stayed with me ever since. Fantastic!
I'm saddened...Not only by this song but by the actress Sean Young. When I first saw this movie at the age of 12, I thought she was the most beautiful woman on screen. A couple of years ago, I decided to look up Blade Runner on UA-cam. I came across her scene again and thought, she's still so very beautiful, just like I remembered her in my childhood. Then after researching online about her, my image of her was somewhat shattered... I had no idea she became an alcoholic and dwindled downhill for a while... But I'm still happy she's around. Sean Young, if you're reading this, know that a bad chapter can be accepted as part of your life but not as your identity. I wish you the best and wish to see more of you on screen. Hopefully back in Blade Runner 2
In interviews she talks about how stressful making the film was for her. It's a tough business making movies and I don't think she could separate the fame side of it.
The perfect song for working through some incredibly sublime mathematics. And she is as beautiful as a most gorgeously unfolding mathematical structure.

RIP Vangelis
R.i.p. Vangelis..we love you 💔
Καλό ταξίδι...
We had a picture of Sean Young from Bladerunner in a text book. Helped me through many classes.
What was the textbook and was there a reason for the picture being there?
That must've been the best textbook, ever...
@@CampeadorHUN It was English, for 7th or 8th grade (in Sweden).
did you always have a box of tissues near by as well?
Vangelis' soundtrack for Blade Runner is one of the most beautiful soundtracks I've ever heard. Sometimes haunting, but always deep and moving. This piece, Memories of Green, is one of my favorite moments in the film.
I have one God, and is a greek god. Vangelis, i love you.
One of the saddest themes , ever.....
Per many years, each time I heard this track, I could imagine a scientist or military base in the South Pole (or in another planet)..first habited by a crew of only 6 people ...(begining of the song)...and during the 'happy' part, it was the grand ship coming with the new crew and guests.,..they share a lunch and an afternoon together laughing.....and just befor the night comes, the ship left again, leaving the new 6 people crew in the camp..and the sadness coming back...(ending of the song)
the thing is that in 2011 I ACTUALLY spent a whole year in Antartica..and to be honest, it was a hard, hard time (psychologically speaking)
I had a collection of several gigabytes of music..but I REALLY was afraid that if I listened to this theme I would break to pieces and do a stupid thing,.....Only after several months there, I finally was able to pass through the listening of this sad song...in a military base, near the south pole, with a reduced crew of fellow partners...
Vangelis shared is genius with us all and touched so many people's hearts with pure joy thank you sir
Masterpiece of music, film, and cast. She was like a porcelain doll in this film.
Sean Young is so perfect in this movie. I have no words to describe him. I Love you Rachel...
Rest in Peace my Immortal Vangelis
Lots of love from Oporto, Portugal 😪🤗
26 seconds. Most beautiful confident smile I've ever seen.
A talent so rare , there will never be another , RIP Vangelis ❤️🙏
Frantastic music and pictures. Thank you. The tunes harmonize perfectly with the atmosphere of the movie.
I first saw this movie at the age of 14, as for me Sean Young is the most beautiful woman
Amazingly Beautiful creation by Vangelis
From the Blade Runner soundtracks. Sounds like wind chimes in the breeze. Lovely.
Although originally from the 1980 album "See You Later".
One of the greatest pieces of art of humankind. POINT!!!
The perfect song for working through some incredibly sublime mathematics. And she is as beautiful as a most gorgeously unfolding mathematical structure.
