Ya buddy👍🏻 I just caught my PB striper yesterday in front of my house ( Hermosa Beach ) throwing a Calissa 110. Landed it on 8lb Izorline xxx copolymer ( best line on the market in my opinion ) and wow, what a fight! Using a Daiwa Salitist 9’M, and an old ( but trusty ) Shimano Soros 3000. Good times 🎣🤙🏻
Just found your channel man. I’m a freshwater guy mostly here in SoCal but looking to start hitting the surf a bit. Happy I stumbled on to your channel. I’ve only got to watch a few vids so far, but I just wanted to tell you they’ve been great. Keep up the good work brother. 🎣😎🤙🏽
Thanks so much for this comment and my apologies on the slow response. If you’re new to the surf, there is certainly a bit of a learning curve but since you’re already an experienced fishermen, it should be a quick transition. Tight lines out there!
@@BenjieKimFishing Appreciate ya man. 👊🏽😊 Just got back from a trip to Ventura, gotta edit the trip probably post it next week. Caught a few nice perch and a solid croaker which absolutely SMASHED and fought really well it was a lot of fun. 😊 I have to dial my gear a bit, but definitely will be getting out there more for sure. Wind and water was pretty rough, only thing I could get to work for me was a 1oz Carolina rig. Couldn’t seem to cast the lucky craft or other hard baits far enough, was disappointed haha I really wanted to throw them but maybe dialing in my gear will help with that idk or maybe the weather just simply wasn’t ideal for it. Going to check out more of your vids, try to dial in a bit, and hopefully get back out there soon. Thanks again. Tight lines bro 🎣🤙🏽
Oh great now I want a striper. You really make it look easy despite the skunks. Way to stay with the LC, I would have changed to c-rig like the other guys and missed the stripers. I like the new colors of LC’s as well, might inspire me to fish them more.
It's fun to change it up now and again! C-rig, LC, or any other technique, it's just fun to be out there hunting and getting bit every now and again! Wishing you a great week and safe travels Bob!
Benjie, it's great to see you have access to the lucky craft warehouse! What I have noticed is that since it is a larger profile bait, you are likely going to catch larger fish.
It's good to see a good person succeed!
Man, I did surf fishing maybe twice in my life. Maybe I need to fish the surf now for those halibuts here in SD.
Fantastic video! Those stripers were amazing!🎣😃
Thank you so much Dan!! I hope you are well, I still have such fond memories of our fishing session together!! Tight lines!!
Holy cow! The excitement is real!! Super fun sessions!!
Thank you Josh!! Can't wait to fish with ya on your turf soon!!
Such a great episode!
That second pattern worked like a charm off the first cast
Unfortunately I had just swapped it out for Cherry Berry if we're referring to the first striper. I do wish I had it on though but I was swapping out colors like crazy trying to get bit. It was tough fishing the first half of the trip. Tight lines!
Sweet video some solid fish on the LC🎣👊👍
Watching you fight that 30 was nerve racking! I was like “don’t break off and blue ball us!” That would’ve hurt! Gotta change out the stock hooks to beefier ones man!
hahaha you're telling me. I was def undergunned for that fight so very grateful to have had the chance to see it. The TRL is a softer rod and I keep my drag pretty lean so even the stock hooks get me by most of the time. Tight lines!
@@BenjieKimFishing yup I have a trifecta lite 903 myself and it does pin fish well but I’ve also had mid 20 stripes bend the stock hooks but who knows maybe my drag was to tight.
Ahhh yea for sure, my bad brotha, not trying to discount your experience. The stock hooks are def soft so swapping em out is certainly not a bad idea. And yea man, stripers are pretty vicious fighters so I can see why it would be especially advantageous to do so when chasing them.
Good one Benjie. That was fun to watch.
Thank you so much David!
Good job benjie, I was able to get two as well back on the 12th. Sundown bite. Same lure, LC sexy smelt.
Awesome thank you for the report Rudy! No doubt you'd get em, you're a slayer brotha!
glad to see you slamming the stripes on the so cal sand keep the good work!
I gotta get on some stripers action this year!! Sick catch Benjie!!💯🎣
What's up Chung!! I was just watching your fishing vlog from Hawaii yesterday. Some great camera shots and fun to watch, hope you're well man! No doubt you'll get on em as long as you're out there casting!
Crazy day man. Since you were in the lucky craft factory get me some lures if you know what im sayin 😂
haha dang man, I wish I could grab some for everyone but...yea lol. Thank you for the comment and wishing you a great start to the new week!
I just discovered that sunset bite. Usually go at o’dark hundred. Once that sun gets lower it’s fire😊
Definitely. Generally speaking I fish tides over AM or PM but I also can't deny that the bite can be very good at sunrise and sunset either. Tight lines!
Socal fishing legend right here
OMG Mo!!!! So good to see your comment man, how are you?? I hope and trust you are well, would love to catch up with ya sometime soon!
@@BenjieKimFishing i am doing well brother, yes let’s go fish.
Great catch! Keep em coming!
That was a big fish 🐟 congrats brother good job.
I appreciate it so much thank you!
Heck yea brother get that bend and putting others on fish LOVE THE STOKE
Love the vid's...keep 'um comming ! Thanks
Much appreciated!! So much footage to edit, I'm gonna get to em!! Thank you and tight lines!
That was stressful just watching, that’s awesome man.
haha thanks Werner, I was a little stressed myself lol!
@@BenjieKimFishing did you think it was a ray at all? That was my second thought, don’t break and then watch it be a ray -.-
But it wasn’t! lol
Hi Benji, how did you connect your braid to flouro leader using the lucky craft
I definitely throwing a LC next time I go out!😂 Haven't targeted Halibut in Santa Monica since 2022.
haha I remember that beast you caught! Seems like yesterday, we are all growing older but the memories keep us pushing!
I remember this… I remember sending you a picture of a 25inch striper and you send me that 30inch… 😂😅😭
What are your thoughts on that certate? Or would you prefer the saltiga?
Yo… Sick striper Benji!!! 👊
Thanks so much Alex!! I hope you are well my friend, tight lines!
Awesome video man
I like your phenix hoodie where can i get one?
Sheeeeeesh Benjie! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
nice striper!
Thanks Francis!! Dang, we didn't get to fish for trout this season but I think you've been getting out there, I hope you've caught some big ones man!
Hey Benjie, do you ever do any kayak fishing?
Any idea when the new patterns will roll out?
They've been out for a minute now, I recommend checking your local shops or maybe checking out their store on eBay, the official LC shop on there is "Ilovehardbaits"
See any lucky craft rods while you were there?
Oh dang Marco, I'll find out for ya next time I'm there, hopefully very soon!
Hey, I’m a new subscriber. I really like your content and I subscribed because I will be in SoCal for a month and I plan to fish a lot there from the surf. If you could recommend a surf rod in the 100-150$ range (I already own a 3000 size Diawa Fuego) I would much appreciate it. Also any other tips would help! Keep up the great content, it gets me excited.
Hi Sean, I'm happy to help out however I can, feel free to email me at benjiekimfishing@gmail if you'd like.
But for that budget, maybe look at the Daiwa Saltist or Okuma Rockaway (either the standard or the SP). In terms of exact model, it really depends on what you're targeting, with a 3k Fuego I'm guessing a rod rated 8 to 17 would probably fit what you're looking for.
2 limit for Striper? You went to Northern Cali?
Benjie. What beach were you at?
Phenix Trifecta Lite 903 ML vs the OKUMA GLS Custom Any recommendations would be great Im down in san diego shore fishing
Always dealers choice as everyone has their personal preferences. The 903 is a solid option...the one thing to keep in mind is while it does have sufficient backbone, it's not a rod you would want to pin your drag down on and pull on with zero reservations. Very sleek and plenty sensitive, it's a very fun rod to fish with. The GLS Custom (9' 8 to 17 medium) has a similar profile, similar feel and sensitivity but will also have better backbone ie pulling power. Imo you can't go wrong with either. Tight lines.
@@BenjieKimFishing What are your thoughts on the 903 vs the 904 i see you have both. Looking for versatility for being able to catch halibut and anything else that comes from the shore.
@@Xhalegamingthe 903 and 904 are very similar. I wouldn’t categorize either as versatile. Personally the 903 was my preferred stick at the time. As stated earlier, sensitive and sleek but gotta be careful when pulling on bigger fish. 904 loses some of that feel with added pulling power, but still only rated to 1 oz. The TRL lineup imo gives you a great feel and experience. Underrated power but still gotta be careful.
Nice fish
Nice fish legal halibut, so why ya release them good eats ?? Just curious them 12lb makes there’s tons of them plus no eggs should have harvested that one , just saying though
Do you use a swivel and leader on your lucky craft? I can never get a bite on this. Always get skunked until I switch to bait
I don't use a swivel, I take off the split ring and clip directly with a 50 lb tactical anglers clip. The LC is really simple in some regards...it really is just reeling it in. But cadence, timing, and location definitely play a big part. It's a suspending 1 to 2 foot diver so shallower water columns tend to be more effective. It took me a solid year of committed casting and many many skunks before something clicked and I started getting bit. Today, it's by far my number one confidence lure...imo bait will almost always win but for me it's the challenge of getting something to bite my artificial that motivates me. That and the quality tends to be better. Less bites, bigger fish. In general.
Tight lines!
@@BenjieKimFishing Thank you benji for taking the time to reply. You gave me confidence again I’m going to order my 4th one since I lost 3 already. I’m from Los Angeles and I also fish the SoCal area mostly around Malibu. I’ve had some good luck last week at Point Magu you should definitely give it a try off the big rocks. I caught a few perch and one of them was over 3 pounds
Thank you for the report! Never fished Magu but heard it can be very good. At the end of the day we should all fish the way we enjoy and what we're good at. The LC is imo a terrific option, some folks jump on and get bit right away. For others like myself, sometimes it takes a bit to figure it out. But it really doesn't matter how, getting out there, having fun, and making memories is what it's all about!
Nice!!!
Thanks so much Francisco!! Hopefully you're all geared up for another season of hunting big fish brotha! Jealous of your boat lol!
Holy cow... literally is this near san diego?
It’s not literally near San diego
No, this was up north in SB county...which I think qualifies as Central Coast? If not, maybe the border of SoCal waters. Tight lines!
Sick! What city are you fishing? Or nor-cal or central cal?
I think this qualifies as Central Cal? SB County...
Where is the place benjie?
What beach was that?😭
The Lucky Craft lures are great but the factory hooks are pretty bad. Generally ok for surf perch but a big striper might end in disappointment. (You were lucky though!) I replace them with more robust hooks.
Bro what beaches were you fishing at..?
This was up in SB County
Which beach??
What location? Let me go with you next time brodiee
Skunked,is what happens, when you're like me,and swing for the fences,it's just part of being a BIG FISH FISHERMAN 🐟.
Redemption is worth it.
Agreed!! Tight lines!!
@@BenjieKimFishing
Yourself as well, keep swinging for the fences.
nice catch next time activate the fear factor!
what beach is this?
What beach ,or give me a clue
MS American shad = best color
最高!
Thank you!!!
